(Oh yea... we were eating Shen Hua on College - EDWARD COME BACK TO US!!!). If it waddles, quacks and tastes like a duck... Lin Jai seems very Chinese to me (howdy y'all) but they call themselves "Asian Cafe". Who am I to argue, but most dishes I love there seem pretty Chinese to me??!? I don't know where the lights-out super cuminy beef is from (Uyghur, or Mongolian?) and the Singapore/curry noodles (curry perfection) might be from Taiwan. The fish dishes seem to float down from some fishy astral plane... THEY HAVE MU SHU!!! They're fully staffed by people that seem to love their work... Ok, I'm starting to GUSH... Went here for my birthday on recommendation from a friend. Had the chicken and shrimp potstickers. OMG! So delicious! And the hot and sour soup was amazing as well. I arrived spontaneously last Friday telling my angel to have a parking space opened up right in front if I was to eat at Lin Jias. And sure enough, there was a space right in front waiting for me. Amazing since the restaurant was packed, with every table full and people standing waiting for orders or to be seated. I ordered the Generals chicken as it is Mary organic chicken and less spicey than the kFC A meat dish is about $21 Then I ordered the east broccoli stir fry which I was around $16. Plus a side of brown rice. The veggies were fresh. The service was excellent. It was a lot of food per dish that I had leftovers. The lady was so nice to top my boxed leftovers with more brown rice. I ordered the wonton soup to go and it was so comforting and delicious!! I had a long day and this really hit the spot. The wontons are flavorful and soft- and all the veggies are cooked to perfection. Also has a good veggie to wonton ratio. I added some chili crisp to mine and it was toooooo good. I definitely will be picking this up for dinner again. Also --the staff was really nice!! I got a recommendation from a co worder to try this place. It was really nice. I know it's more of a Chinese American neighborhood joint type of vibe but it was genuinely enjoyable, from a flavor standpoint. The singapore noodles were the best I've ever had and I do think fondly about them from time to time. Prices are better for dine in rather than ordering online. I'm rounding up honestly, bc I admittedly enjoyed my entrees more than the other diners (my FIL got the pork and my MIL the steamed chicken entree, which she found bland. my BF got the mapo tofu which was okay but not great). I once got the braised tofu from there and that was delish too! Absolutely hands down the best noodle dish in the Bay Area! The dish- Spicy Canton Noodles. I have extolled this dish before, but I need to add that over the years, this dish has remained consistently excellent. I will travel miles to get it. Lin Jai is a contemporary twist on Chinese cuisine and very creative. Service is always friendly and efficient. Usually, I get it with shrimp, but this time, I tried it with pork... just as good. The noodles are large, 'beefy', delicious, and seared perfectly, with a slight char. The other ingredients just add substance and further d flavor to the dish, including the vegetables. It's hard to adequately describe this dish as it is complex. It just does meld so well together. The spicy level is moderate, and I typically request extra spice. It remains an amazing dish. Back again, I have to say this place still deserves a five star rating. The menu changes periodically, and the dishes are always such an amazing array of flavors, textures and aromas. This was a birthday lunch with a friend and we dug deep and ordered - almost everything, that looked good. We had Hakka Fresh Rolls, Won Ton Soup with shrimp, Papaya Salad, Clear Noodles with Shrimp, and Changsha Beef. I rarely give 5 stars for food. This place deserves it. It has a smaller menu (which we appreciate because it means all the dishes are prepared with skill and care). We've been going there for more than 6 years and the quality has never wavered. The food comes with a bit of attitude though. We've been turned away when we ran in exactly 30 minutes before closing. We've been grudgingly seated when we ran in 45 minutes before closing and then were basically rushed through and given dishes straight out of the wok in whichever order they got ready. One may think that this way it's served at its optimum flavor even if the rice is still making its way to the table. We have learned to live with it and joke that their attitude is part of their charm. Well kept local secret. pov: not spicy so if you're seeking spice or heat, you won't find it here. read more

I have been here a couple of times; once dine in and once for takeout! This place is became one of our new favorite spots. All the staff work really hard and are so friendly and attentive. The food tastes so clean and there is nothing we didn't like. We had never noodles, shrimp fried rice, shrimp rolls as take out and the take out quality is just as good as dining inside. The team pointed us to a table away from the drafty door which I highly appreciated. We ordered the scallops with pea sprouts, cumin lamb, fish and rice. Our new favorite. During the pandemic we got takeout here but never dined in. I am a real fan of their Singapore noodles, done to perfection. Tonight the three of us had the noodles, a pork belly with steamed buns and vegetables dish, a shrimp and scallop dish and a final dish of extra mixed stir fried veggies. Absolutely good. The service was over the top attentive, but not over bearing. The dishes were delivered in less than 10 min from the time we sat down. The beers comes in ice cold glasses and the pinot noire by the glass was also very good. The place was full on a Sunday night and the kitchen that you see was in full motion all the time. The ambiance is very friendly with the typical noises of ladles and woks with stir fry sizzling oil sounds. We had the cheese cake for dessert and at first we ordered two for three of us and our waitress smiled and said one will be enough. We smiled and gave in. We barely got through it as it was so rich. The prices are so reasonable, but then we knew that from doing pick up (which they still do at lot of.) There is plenty of parking on Lakeshore. Simply a great place. read more

We went to this neighborhood spot because they had a lot of gluten free options and we're always on the lookout for Chinese/Asian food restaurants that are mindful. The restaurant is very clean, great decor, servers are friendly and service is fast. We walked in and waited 15 minutes for a table to open on Sunday night. We ordered four dishes, the Imperial Fried Rice, Singapore Noodles, Korean Fried Chicken (Not GF) and Honey Walnut Shrimp. Every dish came out pretty quickly and tasted lighter than normal Chinese fare, even though everything was fired up in a wok (as you can see the kitchen). The Fried Rice was lacking a little seasoning, but every other dish was on point. Pricing is on par for entrees at restaurants like this in the East Bay. I'd give it a 4.5 or 9 on a 10 point scale, but we'll definitely be going back, especially if we're by the lake. read more

The food is so so. The service is shockingly bad. I was just there and was asked to leave so that they could accommodate other diners. Other diners had been there longer than I had, but I was the only Black person. I can only guess at why I was asked to vacate my seat when no other tables were asked and there were empty tables that could have been rearranged to accommodate the new diners. The food was good but the bell pepper beef really stood out - it was well seasoned and the beef was very tender and easy to chew. I would love to see how adding a little spice to the dish would impact the flavor - an idea for next time. The noodles were yummy, the jade chicken was nice and garlicky, and the basil shrimp was made with nice plump shrimp. Service was great and the ambiance was quiet. I finally found my favorite Chinese restaurant in Oakland! I read the great reviews and it exceeded my expectations. I ordered for pick up. The inside was nice and would dine in another time. Great to see they do not use plastic containers, even for the soup they used a sturdy paper container. They used a plastic bag to wrap the soup and food so no spills. That's fine because you can re-use those bags. The prices are higher than your hole in the wall Chinese restaurant, but WELL WORTH IT. The portions are large, flavorful, and they use quality ingredients. Here is what I ordered and they were all fantastic. Fresh ingredients, not too salty. They state their dishes are not spicy and you can ask for more heat. I agree they are not spicy. -Wonton Soup - lovely broth and lots of wontons, and also shrimp! -Kung Pao Beef - tender beef and assorted vegetables. -Dragon & Phoenix - Diced chicken and shirmp and topped with nuts that give it a nice crunch -Spicy Canton Noodles - The noodles tasted home-made and thick.
