This is the only place to watch Chicago sports teams play if you are in SF. They also have one of my favorite Bloody Mary's in town.

This place smells like feet. Straight vinegar. Dark, sticky, and cold. Hey Cubs and Bears fans! This is your place. Just stopped by here for March Madness and as usual it was packed. I saw a lot of Texas A&M fans and a huge Texas A&M banner. So I guess it's a place for the Aggies too. Place is small but there is a popcorn machine in the back. So squeeze through the crowd and grab some free popcorn!! There are daily specials so check out the boards above the bar. Tons of TVs around the bar. I give it only 3 stars because of the small space and the 8 seats that are available. To my utter sadness gone are the days of 'windows: beverages for adults.' So, too, are the sullied, veteran drinkers that graced the bar stools. Replaced with a bevvy of striped shirts, golden tee and bartenders with good looks over good bartending skills. But the jukebox is strong. A little Bon Jovi. A little Clash. A little Sinatra. It was pretty crowded when I went here, but from what I could tell this is a pretty cool place. Downside, it's in the Marina. Other downside, you have to deal with people who live and go out in the Marina. Upside, you can drink until you forget you are in the Marina. read more

My friends dragged me to this Marina bar on my birthday (Oct 4, holla!) and although I have my reservations about that chode-fest of a neighborhood, my fears were assuaged as soon as I set foot in this little treat. Plenty of beers on tap and great atmosphere. The sparkplug of a bartender serving us didn't hurt either. My friends were buying the booze that night so I can't comment on the prices, but I'll happily drop a Hamilton per pint if I know it will be brought to me by the petite blonde who took care of us. Not really my favorite bar, and I'd never actually suggest this place to friends if we're looking to go grab drinks somewhere. It's packed every single time I come here, first of all. You can hardly have a conversation. The crowd it pulls in is less than amusing to me. The smell of fresh d-bag paired up with drunk girl making a fool of herself trying to show off her dance moves on the non-dance floor. Last time I came here the bartenders decided to flirt with the chicks at the bar instead of pay attention to paying customers. Don't like this place. read more

This is one of the funnest places in the Marina (along with the Horse Shoe). The bartenders there are awesome, especially Patrick and Jimmy. They have nightly drink specials, a fun jukebox, and fresh popping popcorn all the time. An extra plus is that this is about the only bar in SF where I can watch the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears play and not feel like I am out of place. I have met some fun people here and every time I go there they make you feel like you are long, lost friends. The only reason why I won't give it 5 stars is that there are some nights when the place is dead, but when it is happening, oh it's happening. Great Marina hang out... never seems to be too crowded, and is close to many other bars (a plus when you are with a crowd of non-desicision makers). Service is better than average, and drinks aren't as expensive as some nearby establishments. read more

I don't know why I love this place so much, but I'm a fan. My girl lives upstairs so it's location is perfect. The staff is cool and usually fairly speedy with the drinks no matter how busy it is. They have good drink specials, Golden Tee, and play good tunes, whether it be on the jukebox or the bartender's iPod. I like. read more

I came here new years eve with a few friends, right before the rush in order to get a table. Definitely one of the best bar experiences I have had in the city. Bartenders were quick, drinks were well priced, and everyone seemed to be having fun. Random strangers handed out plastic hats, horns, and necklaces, and according to my friend the girls had had exactly the right amount to drink. I will definitely be coming back on a less crowded day so that I can spent some more time in this awesome little bar. read more

I don't have much to say about this place--we just had a quick beer. And the beer was fine. The service, however, was lacking--we were *almost*, but not quite, ignored as the bar tender chatted cheerfully with other patrons. I am not sure why we didn't rate any attention--too old, not regulars??? And there was no popcorn. read more

First time at this bar. Someone sitting next to us at the place were were having dinner at recommended it. Drinks were not made well at all. The reason why I am giving them one star is because they have a music box in the bar that guest put their hard earned money in to play songs they want to hear. Not just me but another person put money in and our songs were skipped. I found out from the bartender that they can skip your song. This guy literally came up to me and said I skipped his song. I was like NO, I have no way to do that. My song would start and then it was gone, I was like what the heck. My fiance had a friend that owned a bar and told me the bar/staff/owners whoever, have control over the music box so I asked the bartender and yup that was the case. REALLY??? I put over $5.00 in that box and my songs were skipped over half of them. Sorry if is not the bars taste in music or that they did not want to hear it more than once in an hour, not my problem. My advice remove the music box and let the bartenders play what they want and stop taking patrons money. read more

Not a bad spot on Monday trivia night, though the loudness of the speakers makes it difficult to talk or hear. Nice special of $3 Pilser Urquell seemed the other nights some interesting deals. I always have a good time when I go to Monaghan's ... but it should be mentioned that I'm in my early twenties. People in the bar tend to get a little sloppy towards the end of the night, but it's not Monaghan's fault that the Marina is bro-central. Overall, I've seen one fight here, but the rest of my experiences (world series included) were fun and safe :) read more

totally old school restaurant! three of us came here because we were sick of the wait at delarosa, and i was pleasantly surprised! the menu is very easy to navigate - apps, steaks, other things, sides. great selection of drinks - beers and wine and full bar. and it's a fun place to watch games - who knew? my friends got the burger, and a steak, respectively. i got the fried oysters plate. honestly i cant complain about the quality of food or the quantity! there is also such a wide variety of sauces available for use! we really enjoyed our time here..! read more

Everyone looks for different things in a bar. For me, I usually look for a place without a cover where a beer costs between $3.50 and $5 and where the beer is served properly. As for Monaghan's, they struck out on all three fronts. When we got there we were forced to wait in line and then pay cover to be in a loud room with old dudes staring at gross girls. The first drink I got made me leave, a Pilsner Urquell I got for $7!!!! I love PIlsner Urquell, but apparently no one at Monaghans does because had they tasted it they too would have thrown up. Shame on the brewery for not lagering it properly, and shame on Monaghans for serving undrinkable beer. It still reeked of rotten egg from the fermenting. When I told the barmaid, she only asked if I wanted something else, and didn't care that the were serving substandard beer unfit for consumption. The only reason I'm not giving 1 star is that the bar maid did give me a free ginger ale at the beginning, but it is still not worth wasting $12 between getting in and having a drink. Monaghan's is perhaps the most absurd bar in the city. read more

I visited this fine establishment (HA) on a Sunday, so it wasn't that packed. They even had a dog wandering around eating all the popcorn. The music was good and loud, playing all of the top 40 hits. It's pretty much a dive bar without the cheap prices. The guy to girl ratio was 3:1 and let me tell you, the sausage were spoiled, gray and had slimy coatings. The bartender was really nice though, and told me to come back for some Chicago Bears action!!! I will definitely do that. read more

Very cool place. Came here for the opening Penn State game, opened at 0530 for us. Unbelievably cool staff for serving alcohol at 6am. Drinks are well poured, friendly staff, reasonable prices; next time in the city I'll make it a point to come to Monaghan's. read more

It's a bar, it has TV's, the bartender is super hot, the drinks are stiff enough, the clientle not my thing, but then again anytime I'm drinking in The Marina (which these days seems constantly, oh my god, am I secretly in love with the Marina?) what do I expect? So, for an establishment whose job is to pour poison into glasses they succeed, but absolutely no reason to go out of our way to go to Monaghan's when you have The Marina Lounge, California Wine Merchant and the bar at A16 all two blocks away! read more
