It was an awful experience for our father and entire family. There is not enough staffing to care…read morefor the amount of patients. My father needed to go to the hospital because he was having trouble breathing. The nurse kept turning off his alert and saying "be patient, I have to do my rounds, I'll be in when I'm finished". Three hours later my dad was having a seizure, the nurse realized it was an emergency and called the ambulance. The nurse later said he peeked in the room and observed what he thought were "hiccups" so he continued his rounds. Our father is still in the hospital 2 weeks later. I only gave the 1 star because it was a requirement to post review, otherwise I would've given zero stars.

She can't leave and can only see family in an open area supervised by the staff for 30 minutes. This is somewhat based on Connecticut provisions (they can't restrict you from leaving, but have no practical way of quarantining upon return). The cost is over $100k a year! They charge for support based on what they may or do have to do, each support item costs more money based on tranches of support. You have no control of the assessment and cost and they also charge for breakfast and lunch, $1000 per month. It feels like they get you into the program and are stuck, and it's terribly disruptive to move an elderly person, so it's a very difficult situation. I think that they are caring and kind, but the cost is just out of control.

I never ever have written a review on Yelp, but I feel so strongly about Middlewood's of Newington…read morethat I had to take a minute to tell you about our experiences there. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and caring, I mean really caring and sweet. The food is delicious, healthy and there is plenty of it. If residents don't like food they just have to ask and another food will be made for them. There are all kinds of activities and excursions with plenty of staff to help; and they throw some of the best parties I have ever been too. Medical staff is on hand which is very helpful. My grandmother arrived and was very scared (she lived in her home over 65 years) I swear within a day or two she really started to love the place. She has made many friends. What I like best is that we don't have to worry about her. We don't have to spend the weekend, doing laundry, cleaning and help with her showering. We get to spend quality time with her. That's the best feeling in the world. The place has just upgraded the place, new carpets, new paint, new furniture everything is spotless and beautiful Kathy Braga is the Chief Fun Fairy and Director of Middlewood's. She runs a tight ship with lots of love. She makes everything run seamlessly. My grandmother has long term care insurance and they gave us so much trouble to get them to pay for my grandmothers care. Kathy dug in and we got the result we wanted they'd pay for her care. I don't believe that we would have gotten the same conclusion with out her. We love her, we love the place and we are very, very happy.

The rooms are very comfortable and the hallways resemble a college dorm with small tables of knick knacks and seasonal decorations. My mom gets her hair, nails and pedicures done on the premises. Also on the premises is a geriatric doctor and psychiatrist, both of which my mom sees. There are activities every day and also a van that takes residents to doctor appointments, the store as well as field trips and Wii bowling competitions with other assisted living communities. There's something for every level of care for seniors and I am very happy to have my mom living there.

My mother was a resident at the Watermark at East Hill for 4 1/2 years until her passing in early…read more2025. When she first moved there, everything seemed fine. I was relieved that she had a place to live where she could be looked after and have help available if she should fall. I'd say that about 6 months into her stay, things started to change, initially it was small things like the nurse assigned to my mother not responding to my messages or answering my questions. My mother once told me that the staff helped dress her but were a bit rough in doing so. She told me that she didn't think they liked their jobs. These were generally somewhat small matters all things considered. In fall 2023, my mother fell in her apartment and fractured her hip. After a brief hospital stay, she was admitted to The Springs, the rehabilitative function within the Watermark. I was relieved that she would receive therapy within the same building where she lived, and things seemed fine at first. About 2 to 3 weeks into her rehabilitation, I was told that my mother was mobile and walking with parallel bars. I was pleased to hear this because I knew that if she were no longer ambulatory, her quality of life would slip a good bit. I visited her on multiple occasions while she was at The Springs, but she was either in a wheelchair or in bed. Because my visits were often at the end of the workday, I didn't think anything of the claims about her walking. Before she was discharged, an occupational therapist (and other members of her care team) at The Springs reiterated that my mother was indeed walking ("She's been walking for weeks") and that she would need a lift chair in her room. When I visited her after she was back in her apartment, I discovered the truth: she could not stand, and she could not walk. I had been lied to for additional time in therapy at more charges from my mother and who knows how much from insurance. When I took her to an orthopedic doctor for a follow-up visit after her hip fracture, the doctor knew that my mother was not able to walk, as did the radiology technician. I never felt the same way about the Watermark after this occurred and added my mother to some waiting lists at other facilities. By December 2024, my mother was dying from COPD, for which she had been receiving hospice care for some months. After she died in January 2025, I was told that her estate would receive a credit given that her charges for the month of January were for more than $9,600 and she died on the 7th day of the month. In early February 2025, I discovered that the Watermark had withdrawn more than $3,000 from my mother's bank account--1 month after she died. When I confronted them about this, I was told that it was an error that had been corrected and that her estate would receive a credit for $5,253.58 to include the false charge in February and a credit for the month of January 2025. They have since refused to pay the credit despite multiple contacts. I am now attempting to work with a state agency to recover the funds. I cannot in good conscience recommend this facility to anyone based on what my mother and I have experienced. My involvement with this facility has turned into a nightmare that I wouldn't wish on anyone.

If a pretty place and good food is what you want then Meadow Ridge/Ridge Crest is for you. This is a fancy place with below average rehabilitation care. The activities and music performers are great and that was something that my mom enjoyed. However, There is Little to NO communication between Meadow ridge/ ridge crest and family. We requested meetings with the social worker, PT dept, nurses but most items we discussed weren't acted upon. We Requested phone calls when any issues happened or changes with medications, illness, etc. had come up. We did not get any calls except when they were sending her to the hospital. We would leave messages with concerns at the nurses station after numerous tries to speak to someone. We would not get a call back to answer our concerns. After our last call (which was never picked up at the nurses station so we had to leave a voicemail message) about a very serious concern we had noticed about my mom's health we did not get a call back. My mother ended up in the hospital a day later with a very serious infection that was almost fatal. The infection stemmed from another smaller one that could have been diagnosed and taken care of. We chose to send her to a different rehab after she left the hospital which wasn't any better. Care quality at the new place was average on a good day but that's another story. Is there any good care out there? And don't get me started about charging to hold a bed when the resident goes to the hospital. don't do it!!
