Very good pizza but extremely over priced.... If you don't mind the price, I'd recommend this restaurant....

First of all our waitress Tracy was amazing! Such a hard worker and so sweet. Our food was great. The risotto fritters with whipped ricotta .... Oh my god. Amazing! And the pizzas we got were the sausage/pistachio and then we did a build your own of with pepperoni, hot honey, and ricotta. Both were AMAZING!!! The only thing we didn't love was the eggplant fries ... they were too thick so they like absorbed all of the fry oil and that's all you could taste. A little thinner and they probably would've been great. Otherwise everything was perfection. LOVED the red sangria too! Laid back atmosphere. Definitely will be back! read more

My family and I stopped here after going to brownstone park. We had a decent size party ( 4 adults 2 ten year old boys & an infant), we were seated almost immediately. Mondo's Menu is really impressive! Apps we got; buffalo wings and fried cheese. The wings were great, the fried cheese ( their version of mozzarella sticks) had a lot of cheese but almost NO flavoring on the breading. For pizzas we got the mondo special & the pesto chicken pizza OMGGG these pizzas literally Melt in your mouth. The sauce is perfect, not too sweet and just enough spice. Mondo is a solid pizza place. Their pizza is made with quality ingredients, and they have so many choices for specialty pies and toppings. They have some great creative pies like the sausage/pistachio white pie, and the oozy egg. The truffle pie is also fabulous. On our most recent visit, we got one white pizza with spinach, and a fresh mozzarella with pepperoni. There were 3 of us; we each had a bunch of slices, and we were left with half of each large pie to take home. On top of the fantastic pizza, they offer nice salads, pastas, and paninis. The calzone and salad were delicious, the pizza was just okay in our opinion. You pay a lot extra to add toppings onto the pizza but each slice only had one or two toppings on it, was practically just a cheese pizza. read more

We sat in the bar and had good service. Now the Pizza! What the heck happened? Barely a crust! I mean paper thin. Where is the cheese? Could not even lift off the crust, no pull at all. A barely there layer of hard blah. And due to its lack of substance it was cold before finishing your first slice. Toppings well see for yourself. So very disappointing. Buddy and I stopped in for a couple of pies and a couple of pints one late one Saturday night. We had already been out on with "hall pass" along with other buddies. It was decided a that late night snack would be good before heading home. I ordered the "Ozzy Egg" a white pie with fresh Mozzarella, Romano, Prosciutto Di Parma, and Truffle oil. The fresh tomato & basil pizza is definitely one of the top 3 pizzas I have ever had in my life! Everything about the pizza was perfect, it had a crispy crust, and gooey cheese. The amount of ingredients were so perfectly balanced and the flavor was definitely there. It was loaded with fresh tomato, basil, and lots of garlic and it smelled absolutely heavenly. The service was quick and staff were friendly and made sure to check in. They had a lunch and happy hour menu that was reasonably priced with different options too. I was initially hesitant about trying MONDO Pizza. What kind of place that takes their pizza seriously names it Mondo? What does it mean? Well for me MONDO now means a very good pizza in a fun, clean, and sleek environment. The restaurant has an open type kitchen and a bar area and there is outside seating. The crust is a bit thicker than any New Haven pizza that I have had but it is quite good. I tried one of their Artisan Pies, an Oozy Egg pizza which consists of Fresh Mozzarella, Romano cheese, prociutto di parma, egg and truffle oil and it was fantastic. It had a couple of fried eggs on top cooked perfectly to deliver the Oozy yolks as promised in its name sake! For the less adventurous, they also offer more traditional sounding pizzas along with the ability to create your own by selecting from a toppings list. They even have Foxon Park soda my favorite of which is the Gassosa flavor! I can't wait to come back and try some more varieties of their delicious pizzas and some of the other menu items! read more

We had an expiring SaveNowCT coupon so we tried Mondo on Monday evening. The restaurant is larger than I expected from the photos on the website. There is a bar with 2 TV's, but unfortunately, most of the stools were taken or we would have watched the Women's Olympic basketball team's exhibition game. The noise level was annoying with music playing, people talking loudly and a few screaming children. I was surprised that beer by the pitcher was not offered so we settled on a pair of Blue Moon drafts. We ordered a large Mondo Bianco pizza with spinach that includes ricotta & mozzarella, garlic, fresh basil and white sauce. The crust was thin but not charred as you would find at a pizzeria that uses a wood burning stove. Toppings were fresh, but the combination would have benefited from the addition of fresh tomatoes. Our service was good, but we noticed 3-4 instances where food was delivered to the wrong table. Overall, we felt it was probably the best we have had in the Middletown area, but it did not compare favorably with New Haven's finest. read more

We are 0 for 5 on getting a correct order and have only received a refund or replacement once which we had to go get ourselves when we paid extra for delivery. Anyone from the east coast (NY and CT specifically) knows that it's nearly impossible to find good pizza out west. When I come back, Mondo is my go-to pizza place in central Connecticut. The restaurant is located on Main Street in Middletown so there's a bunch of other restaurants, bars and shops you can visit in the area. The staff here is always friendly, especially the bar tenders. My favorite salad is the Tuscano. The mozzarella is very fresh and the croutons are crispy on the outside but warm and soft on the inside. Their balsamic vinaigrette dressing has a mild, but great taste. My favorite pizza is the Mondo Bianco. It's a white based pizza with ricotta and mozzarella, basil and roasted garlic, and your choice of spinach and broccoli. The globs of ricotta are huge, smooth and DELICIOUS. Stopped in for lunch the other day and everything was really delicious! They have a pick 2 type special for lunch. I had 1/2 a mozzarella panini (huge!) and 1/2 a sherry salad. The sale was so amazing, could eat that everyday! I have had their pizza in the past and remember is being awesome. I had some food envy for the people eating pizza round me. The truffle pizza wasn't my favorite (didn't read carefully and failed to realize it comes with onions on it) but it was not a bad pie, just personally preferred the tomato basil that we got. We came in here on a Saturday night and realized that we would have a bit of a wait. We were told to expected 35 minutes but it ended being under 15 minutes before we were seated. After consulting the Yelp, it was clear that the eggplant fries were an item to try. After that, we just picked out a pizza and salad that looked good and ended up ordering the Tuscano Salad and Shrimp Pizza. The food all came out relatively quickly and was clearly being prepared fresh. The eggplant fries were underwhelming. This may not be a popular opinion but they were just big deep-fried veggie sticks without any real flavor. The only flavor came from the dipping sauce. They have a lot of potential to be tasty though. The salad was massive (I mean a full meals right there) and my favorite part was the polenta croutons. These did have a lot of flavor and were much better than the cubes of rock bread that normally come as croutons. Finally, the main event: the shrimp pizza. We ordered a medium which would have been close to the right size if we ordered nothing else for the two of us. The medium is massive. The pizza included shrimp, garlic, and capers among other toppings and we ordered ours with a red base (there is also the choice for a white base). Red base was definitely the way to go and be sure to squeeze lemon over the pizza when you get it. It was amazing and the capers pulled it all together really nicely. This is (so far) my favorite pizza place in the area and has the most interesting and creative menu I have seen. I will certainly be back to try other pies. read more
