This was my first time trying Sally's Apizza, and since I've never been to the original New Haven spot, I was excited to see if the hype was real. I went with the classic cheese pizza to start. Even with the signature charred edges--which I know is part of that authentic New Haven charm--the flavor was excellent. The menu is surprisingly varied, offering everything from salads to full dinners and a solid drink selection. The atmosphere is high-energy, too; the restaurant is surrounded by Jordan's giant TVs, making it a great spot to catch a game. Plus, being located right in the middle of the mall makes it incredibly convenient to get in and out.

Second time here. First, the space itself is really nice--I love the atmosphere and all the TVs. That said, my most recent visit was pretty mediocre. I completely understand that the bartender was busy, but an $18 "Sonoma" dirty martini that was only half full was unacceptable. There was almost no olive brine, which was especially disappointing given the price. Also, look how small these olives are!! The pizza was good, but the martini ultimately put a damper on the overall experience.

Went to Sally's on Friday. I went in with lower expectations given we're far away from the original New Haven location. That said, it was a very nice and new environment. Very sports bar oriented with TVs and projection screens on the main wall. Everything was clean, and service was pretty good. The staff was very polite. For it being focused on sports, the volume level was fairly moderate. We ordered off the lunch menu. Very reasonably priced. We got a chopped salad and a small pizza with two toppings. The perfect amount of food. The chopped salad had a lot of flavor. The chickpeas were very well seasoned. Not too much dressing, which can happen with these types of salads The pizza was thin and crispy. Very crunch crust. I liked it a lot. Got pepperoni and Italian sausage. The only thing I'd flag is that the sauce is basically crushed tomato and not a true marinara. For this reason, the sauce was a littttle watery and thin tasting. Didn't seem like they seasoned that. Would definitely go back. Good food, great value

After I left my last review I was contacted by the wonderful manager Brett at this Sally's location. She was prompt in reaching out and encouraged me to give Sally's another try. My husband and I went back last night and had a far better experience. The food was excellent and the portions were more reasonable. This experience matched the price and quality. Instead of boxed pasta, Sally's is now making homemade pasta and it's notably better. I am obsessed with their vodka sauce. We also enjoyed calamari and the spicy meatball pizza (not spicy, but full of flavor). The servers are always friendly. On top of that, Sally's had a deejay last night so the atmosphere was lively. I can't wait to go back soon!!

Been a few months. All the great is still great. Kept it simple: chopped salad (my favorite) and a tomato pie. Both exceptional. Service is fantastic. Vibe is outstanding. Love coming here. I keep threatening to branch out and try other items on the menu. The problem is, I love what I love. If you can't make it to New Haven - go!!!

Apparently, there is a New Haven feud over who makes the better pizza, Frank Pepe, or Sally's? For years now my family and I always stop by the Frank Pepe location in Manchester whenever I'm in town but this time we went in a different direction entirely and I'm really glad that we did because this was great pizza. I can't tell you which one I like better because they're both good in their own way, but Sally's sauce is unforgettable. It's slightly sweet, and no acidity at all. That crisp when you bite into the pie makes you want to dance in your seat. Their salads are also amazing. I know you normally think of salad as an afterthought but it's a really hearty, and delicious salad they make here. Our server Jonathan went above and beyond, very attentive and informative as we told him this was our first time at Sally's. The ambiance of the restaurant is a 3 for me. It gives off nightclub vibes which I'm personally not a fan of as its dark and they have music playing. It is however conveniently located in the mall so if you end up having to wait for a table as we did, you can shop around until they text you that your table is ready. Looks like Sally's is going to have to become a new tradition for us. I'm anxious to try their pastas being that their sauce was so good.

A recent time at Sallys shows that a restaurant is more than just food. I mean the pizza here is just about as good as the original (a little lacking in the "char" but not too noticeable). I loved the Pepperoni and mushroom pizza. The white clam was nearly as good. But the service was lacking. After our first pizza appeared from a runner, Our waitress disappeared. 5,10,15 minutes went by. I asked the host about our second pizza and within a minute it appeared from a runner. Since a small pizza doesn't take over 15 minutes to cook, it made me wonder: did I our waitress forget? Alas a few minutes later she appeared. No explanation. No real apology. And no water refill either. Add to that they didn't really focus the TV on live sports (they had on an old college basketball game on one of the big screens) and you just had an experience that felt impersonal and lacked oversight. For Sally's which has first rate pizza, it shows you still need the service and environment. Otherwise, takeout.

Really enjoyed the pizza, atmosphere and service. Walking into the restaurant I almost forgot I was in the mall. I got a glass of the house Cabernet ($10) and the cheese pizza with pepperoni, basil, hot honey and whipped ricotta. It was a delicious combination! The pizza comes is pricey. It comes as small or large cheese pizza and the toppings are extra. Costing between $0.75 to $2.25. The server was nice and provided recommendations.

The pizza was fantastic, I'd say it stands in a category of its own league. I'm from RI home to where neighborhood pizza parlor growing up was in walking distance. Some of what I thought were the best but, New Haven sets a bar to the rest of the pizza communities. The 100 year old coal fired oven alone was an amazement that is of days gone by. This is the reason for the perfect thin crispy pizza and charred crust. The taste did not disappoint but was so yummy! Every bite was as delicious. That tomato topping was a home run from this gourmet gal. The wait really stunk seeing we stood in torrential rain , no where to stand, while others patiently waited under umbrellas getting soaked! Only bad thing. Parking is also a bit of an issue. Our server Sam was beautiful and just as sweet! She made sure our drenched selves were warmed up and fed and made to feel welcomed and appreciated. Thank you Sam! Great pizza guys, you all work so diligently there! I won't hesitate when I'm in New Haven!

Was visiting my Mom and my Sister told me to try Sally's Apizza at W Farms Mall. Nice atmosphere for a mall joint. Service was friendly. I got the Calabrian Stinger small pie. Delicious! The pepperoni cups, hot honey , Nduja, and Calabrian chiles was a fantastic combo. Next time I'm in the area Sally's will be seeing me again. Looking forward to trying more of the menu. Stop in you will be glad you did.

There's a lot of debate in Connecticut about pizza -some even say it is the best pizza in the United States. This was not the best pizza in the United States or Connecticut for that matter. All I will say is, Frank has always had my heart. Food The food at Sally's was great, especially the crust on the pizza--it was perfectly crispy and chewy. Plain pepperoni, perfecto. I also ordered crostini topped with apricot and whipped ricotta and Calabrian honey, which was a delicious and unique combination. The chopped salad was another highlight; it was fresh and flavorful, with garbanzo beans adding a nice twist on texture. Drinks For drinks, we had lemonade and an Arnold Palmer. Unfortunately, we did not love the drinks. Next time, I'll just go with a Diet Coke- listen to your hearts, boys and girls. Ambiance The vibe at Sally's was really cool! A cool feature was this little circular display with spinning graphics at the door. The TVs were almost too big to see for where we were sitting, but it would be cool from the second floor of the mall (where you don't eat?). Being located right in the mall makes it super convenient for a quick meal while shopping (that is how they got me). Service The service was smooth and efficient but nothing stands out.

We sat at the bar on a Saturday night to watch some basketball. It's not what I expected for a layout.. it's a long skinny dining room with a crap ton of large tvs. Ordered the broccolini, Brussels, and a regular pizza. Portions a good, but be prepared to wait for your pizza! One of the bar tvs is poorly placed right behind a pole. Also, the shorter bartender with dark hair, tattoos and long eyelashes literally did not even look our way once. She was the main bartender while another gal did table cocktails. The gal doing table cocktails had long braids and was great - busy and still had a welcoming attitude, did the best she could without any support from the other gal.

I chose The Laurel based on the great reviews, not knowing much more about this place. Upon arriving, the parking lot was packed. I also had a difficult time getting in when walking from the parking lot, which is behind the restaurant. The issue here (which is my only negative about the entire dining experience) is if I were with a person with disabilities (as I am at times) who doesn't walk fast and we walked to what we "thought" was the entrance, only to find a sign saying to use the front door, but no arrow as to where that is (and keep in mind, I don't know the area, this place, never been here before) and if it were raining - This would have been a horrible way to start the dinner. PLEASE post a sign on the door with an arrow showing which way to go. Also, the door says it's for disable folks, but it's locked. OK - My griping aside... Coming in, I was quickly greeted and seated. The staff here was GREAT! Very engaging and VERY helpful! The menu here is AMAZING! Good thing it's a joint that specializes in small plates and that I was part of a group of three, it gave us the ability to try a bunch of items; seven, in fact and that's not including dessert! The flavors from their vegetarian and vegan dishes were so darn good, you don't miss the meat! Everything was plated beautifully and perfectly! We also placed our entire order (not desserts) all at once and they brought them out as they were made, which worked perfectly with our timing too. They not only have a full bar here, they have a "craft cocktail" quality bar! Upon walking in, one of the first things I noticed was their yellow chartreuse! Of course, next to this was green. So, when I sat down I asked about it, and my server told me how they were able to get this and so I ordered a Last Word, which came out SPOT-ON PERFECT! When it came to the food, some favs of ours - Their Watermelon Crudo - This looked and had the texture of tuna - AMAZING!! The Vegan Empanadas had amazing flavor and texture! I also liked their Stuffed Peppers - The "Samosa Potatoes" in them really hit nicely as well as the sauce on top. Save room for dessert, they have some great options here! We couldn't decide, so the 3 of us ordered 4! We tried their crème Brûlée, their Unbirthday cake, Tres Leches Tiramisu, and their Brûléed Cornbread. The Unbirthday cake was nice - reminded me of what it looks like, Funfetti! But their Brûléed Cornbread was AWESOME! Loved the crispy edges of the cornbread and the entirety of flavors. It wasn't until mid-meal that we really had a talk with our server about the amazingness of the food, the artfulness of it, as well as the attention to detail and creativity of the menu and that's when we learned that the chef here recently won an award for best chef in Connecticut! Well, now it's obvious - Why the parking lot was packed and why everything was so very good! Highly recommend stopping in - but make reservations!

I'm glad I gave this place a second chance before writing my review. Our first visit was for dinner…read moreand while things were good, I did not love it. But it wasn't their fault, I didn't realize that there were olives (in some form or another) pretty much in every single dish I ordered and I don't love olives. As in, whatever I saw, say fish or duck with something I wanted, so I just ordered it without reading the fine details of what were in the dish. So that was my fault, I am sure they would have either suggested things without olives, or told me what things the olives could've been removed from. I knew the service was good and the food was beautifully plated, I just didn't love the things we ordered that time. I saw a post on Instagram that they had a French toast with Ube sauce and I knew I needed to go! I fell in love with Ube in Seattle a couple of years ago and now anytime I see it near me, I have to go get it. I saw the post on a Saturday morning and jumped online and made a brunch reservation for 11:45 the same day! Everything we had was fantastic, rather than wanting a basic sausage or bacon to go with the French toast sticks. I ordered the Bella Bella wings as my protein to go with my Ube French toast, and they were fantastic. I also had to start with the watermelon Crudo, which was interesting, the flavors were excellent, but the texture of the watermelon did not resemble watermelon so it could throw you off if you're not at least a mildly adventurous eater. My husband had the prawn and grits and said it was fabulous and that he would order it again. I did not try it because the portion is not that big and the French toast was filling me up so I let him enjoy his own meal, and did share a couple wings with him and he agreed they were really good. The service was great again, and as simple as it sounds, I loved how when we were seated the hostess asked what kind of water we wanted, we did not have to wait for any period of time for a server to come over and ask us. The attention is in the details and that is always important. The cocktails were great, though a little pricey, which is on par for things in CT. We enjoyed them both at brunch and on our first dinner visit. We will be back, and I actually already prepaid for a dinner experience coming up with Filipino food and I'm excited for it! I have friends that went to the first one and said it was epic! So, while we usually go to brunch only if there are bottomless mimosas, this is one exception that will stay in our rotation! The restaurant is cute, intimate and clean.

He suggested some great items. We started with their steak frites and I cannot rave more about it! First this plate is definitely shareable. Among myself, my husband and young toddler we destroyed this. My daughter was eating so much of this steak and so were we! It was sooo tender and we loved the gravy on top. The fries were amazing and when they were drenched in that gravy it was chefs kiss! What really brought it all the together was the salad paired with it- it was light and refreshing and the dressing was so good! For dessert our server suggested the chocolate custard so we got that and a berry handpie. We ate both and kept saying "oh my god" with each bite. My daughter especially loved the chocolate custard but my husband and I loved both equally! We immediately said after our meal how we have to come back. We cannot wait to try other menu items and their cocktails next time. We are huge fans and will definitely be back!!

I dropped in, and to my pleasant SURPRISE, a beautiful renovation was underway! The space is open,…read morewith high ceilings, an airy feel, and a modern aesthetic. It's FIRE!!! (as the kids say) It was crowded despite being early evening. The only available seats were at the bar area near the windows, which was fine because we were determined to experience the "new" place. We ordered the tuna tartare and lobstah rolls. The accompanying chips are homemade (slightly salty, but my taste buds are really close together). The host was attentive and gave us the royal treatment. We put this gem back on rotation and we are definitely returning!!!

The textured walls are gorgeous and give the space a style it was definitely missing before. As usual, the happy hour menu never disappoints. The Pomjito is a personal favorite.. refreshing, light, and not too sweet. We also got the oysters and mussels, both solid. The mussel sauce was unique compared to a typical tomato base, which we really appreciated. For my entrée, though, I was disappointed to see that the tuna salad I always order had completely changed. It used to be an arugula salad with Asian flavors and the tuna served on top. Now it It's a Niçoise salad, and the tuna is awkwardly placed on the side. Nothing about the tuna tasted like it did before. I'm usually a sucker for ahi tuna, but this was honestly one of the most disappointing ahi dishes I've ever had. It felt totally incohesive with the salad next to it. I really wish they didn't change the menu so frequently. Once I finally find an entrée I genuinely look forward to, it disappears. That said, we'll still be back for the great happy hour food and solid drinks. Now it's just a matter of finding a menu item I like... and hoping they keep it.
