Excellent food and service! We were quickly greeted and whisked away to a booth. Our waitress, Sheri W. was extremely attentive. My husband and I told her it was our first visit to JG and she was delighted to help us with any questions or concerns. The menu is huge and it offers something for everybody! I decided to start with the apple salad, which was huge! It was crispy, crunchy, and had just the right mix of ingredients. My husband ordered a small (12in) cheese pizza, and I decided to go with a small (12in) vodka pizza. I love vodka sauce but had never tried it on a pie before, man was it delicious!- Chef's kiss! My husband really enjoyed his traditional cheese pizza as well! It was great to find a new haven style pizza joint further into the state. They also serve Detroit style pizza which I'd be interested in trying next time. The only downside was not having room to try the italian ricotta donuts that look and sound amazing (which JG doesn't start serving till 5pm). Food and service were excellent. We were seated in a booth in the bar area by choice. Spenser is an excellent bar tender as well waiting on the tables in that area. He is very attentive and is on top of drinks and food before your glass is running low. Thank you Spencer for being 100% attentive at what you do to keep customers happy. If you are wondering if I/we know him. No we do not. I always ask the name of the person serving us. I find it to be a more pleasant experience knowing the name of the person who is serving us. As for the food my Apple walnut cranberry something salad lol was amazing. I ordered it with Only romaine lettuce, no onions and extra dressing. Amazing!! I've been here a few times now and overall its delicious. This time we got the Philly cheesesteak eggrolls which were really good. Then I got the Crazy Alfredo pasta which was delicious and a HUGE portion. I had left overs for 3 more meals. My partner got the Detroit Motor City pizza which was so flavorful and also a whole pizza so he had that for 2 meals. There is plenty of parking here as its in a plaza. We were seated immediately even though it was busy. Unfortunately our table was a booth by the bar right under the air conditioner. Our only solace was that it was right next to the door to go outside, so it was constantly being open and closed and we would get a warm breeze... Started out with the onion straws, and the eggplant fries... The small was huge and that's an understatement but very tasty . Our server, Shari, brought us some ranch dressing. I think she read my mind because the onion straw tasted delicious with ranch. Because we ordered pasta, we had salads coming, which were pretty good, but nothing extra extraordinary . The room was a bit tight with another party but it was not overwhelming. Once we placed our order, the food came out at a nice pace with appetizers and salads followed by our entrees. We had the Chicken Joey which was so flavorful. The risotto was outstanding, so creamy and delicious. And the broccoli was tasty, covered in chopped garlic. We also had their new promotion of chicken cutlet meals - Brooklyn chicken which was a mild impression of Parmesan, but less sauce, and fresh mozzarella on top. We were visiting the area and someone recommended this place to us. We called to place an order for pick up. There was an area you can park and they will bring it out to you, that was what we gathered. After waiting the amount of time they mentioned on the phone, we drove there and parked at the designated spot and messaged them through the text message chain they sent us, letting them know we were there. After 15 minutes, we messaged them again to confirm; someone responded "ok". After another 15 minutes, we decided to just go inside to pick up our food since no one was coming out. It ended up being around an hour overall wait time; it was a Saturday evening, so it was busy and we get it. Aside from the wait, the food was really good. I had the small Hot Honey Pepperoni Bronx pizza; it was on a thin crust, mozzarella, pepperoni, hot peppers, and honey. That was so so so good! Unfortunately, I didn't get to take pics. I haven't been to a Joey Garlic's in at least 12 years. At that time they primarily offered pizzas. Today their menu is expanded to pasta, salads, wings and more. Today we were a party of five, when we arrived for dinner. It was super busy, after around 15 minute wait we were brought to our table. We got eggplant fries as an appetizer to share. These were pretty good, and a nice alternative to traditional fries. For my cocktail I got the Pistachio Martini. I didn't expect this drink to be green, but it makes sense. It tasted like pistachio ice cream in a cocktail. For my meal I got the Clam Chowder and the Apple Salad. This clam chowder was not on the menu. The waitress told us about it. Just because it was a special, yet we aren't anywhere near the water, I expected it to be well, like clam chowder. It was super, super salty, inedibly salty. In my experience it is difficult to mess up a salad, and of course, there are minimal carbs, so it's typically a healthier option. The Apple Salad arrived in a bowl. It looked fresh with thin sliced apples, over what seemed like a whole bag of greens. There were also walnuts, cranberries and gorgonzola cheese. This was a massive salad, the quantity is there for sure. Not so much the quality, the zest, the flavor or the star of the show. I didn't even have a quarter of this salad. I brought the rest home with me, not because it was amazing but simply because I already had it. Others got the Kitchen Sink pizza, this is with pepperoni, sausage, bacon and meatball. This was very meaty, not my personal pick, but very good with thin crust and rich toppings. We concluded with the Chocolate Lava Cake. This was pretty tasty, the warm, melty, gooey chocolate paired with vanilla ice cream. If I were to return to Joey Garlic's I would stick to their pizzas. read more

I just want to give Joey Garlic some honest feedback. Although I have eaten at the restaurant often, yesterday I was with a large group. Your food was excellent and plentiful. The staff were excellent. I plan on going there again. I need to say that I have a hearing impairment and we were seated in a small side room. normally I hear even with my hearing impairment in noisy places. Then another large group was seated close to us. They were extremely loud. This close proximity of two large groups made it difficult to hear and have a conversation. This is not the first time that I ate an otherwise delicious meal in the presence of two large groups. Many restaurants seem to follow this practice. Therefore, I would like to suggest that they separate two or more groups rather than seat them near each other. This practice spoiled an otherwise wonderful experience. Always a great spot to go when you aren't entirely sure what you want for dinner. It's usually busy any given night but never are we left waiting around for long. I've mostly checked out the pasta, which has been delicious on numerous occasions and the big piece of garlic bread is one of my favorite parts. The portions are rather large and can definitely be taken home for a second or third meal. There is no shortage of Italian restaurants around here, but this is the only one I know of with eggplant fries. If you only come to Joey Garlic's for apps and drinks, or these gimmicky fries, it'll still be a fulfilling experience. Outside of the apps, pasta classics, pizza, Detroit pizza, and wraps make this an impossible to choose menu. The kids menu includes the staple burgers and fries and chicken tenders. The Alfredo was a different recipe but very tasty meal, and the Al Capo was colorful and fun. Half of your pasta will go home because those plates are huge! Italians would describe Joey garlic, Italian American fair as it mezza mezza or just so so. Joey's is reasonably priced for pretty average fare. The meatball appetizer comes with three large meatballs, although given the density of these meatballs, it's very likely industrially made as hand made meatballs tend to be a lot less dense. The grilled bread that comes with it wasn't really toasted and tasted burnt from the grill marks. It made me think their grill needed to be cleaned more. The pizza is solid. Good mix of cheese and crushed tomatoes. Pepperoni could've used a little char, but had a nice spicy finish. read more

I have to start by saying service here is absolutely phenomenal. Upon sitting at the bar (about 50% capacity) we were immediately greeted by Shannon who introduced herself and genuinely made us feel very welcome. We ordered a round of manhattan's but my friend chose a bourbon that didn't taste all that great. When the other bartender noticed we didn't touch much of our drinks she quickly offered to replace them with a different bourbon and it did taste better. However, the ambiance at the bar wasn't very good. It was bright and once we got settled in I realized the vibes were not good. We honestly felt out of place. Seems like mostly locals that weren't the friendliest. I realize you're there to eat / drink but when seated at a bar you'd expect a more inviting atmosphere. The food was nothing to write home about either. The garlic bread was just "eh". Wasn't a huge fan of the sauce either. The house salad was a good size for the price (small) but it looked like someone walked along a salad bar and dropped every single item on the plate except for the lettuce. Ate maybe half and just didn't have any interest to continue which is unusual for me. My buddy felt the same about his large salad with chicken which he said did not taste very good. We've been here many many times. Fantastic grinders! Chicken parmigiana, Philly cheesesteak or pork cutlet with broccoli raab are my go to's. I'd be really hard pressed to name one better in our area Service is always spot on. We rarely have to wait for a seat. I ordered the eggplant parm dinner for the first time and it was inedible! There was a ton of a plant cutlets, very thick and undercooked. No flavor very little sauce. I could purely chew it. I removed it all, and I was only able to eat the little pasta that was underneath it. I was extremely disappointing because it's costly and how could their eggplant cutlets be so delicious on there grinder but not in a meal? I also ordered avocado salad. I've had it in person and it was big and delicious. However, I ordered it to go. It is smaller and it only came with a half avocado. It was mostly lettuce. Went here for dinner with a friend. I will say our waitress was very patient with us. Because one of our party didn't arrive until 45 minutes later. We did get appetizers while we waited. It wasn't soggy either. The wing, we could have gotten them a bit spicier. But, that was ok. It was still good not greasy or soggy. Glut had the perfect crispness to the wings. When, the rest of our party came. We didn't even look at the menu. Our waitress bless her heart stayed patient. Said to us when we are ready just throw a hand up. She'll be watching. Stopped in on the way home from a graduation. Had the shrimp scampi. I've never had a dish like this with sooo many capers. The he salt level was way too high. It seems like they played with perfection and went way over top. I am used to lemon, shrimp, garlic with white wine and chicken broth and that's it This had unripe hard tomatoes, about a jar of unrinsed salty capers, a slurry to thicken the sauce which made it like an thick consistency. One word for this place... run! Not run to try but run as in run away! Full candor, I used to like this place a lot. Pre and through Covid, we would go here and grab take out. Portions have always been huge for the price and the quality and taste was a solid meal. Last night changed all that. We went on a Sunday evening for a family meal - 3 adults and 2 kids. We were surprised that we got just in as the place had always been pretty packed even on a Sunday night. That should have been our first clue. A look at the menu showed they have gone a lot heavier on pizzas in recent changes but it seems to have done them well as they were doing a brisk trade in pizza. We all opted for other choices so we didn't get to try if those are good or not, but this has always been a solid Italian restaurant so we weren't worried about the choice. Possible sign number 2 there. We ordered a bottle of wine for the adults, 2 juices for the kids, boneless tenders for the kids, eggplant Parmesan for my mom, chicken Parmesan for my wife and fettuccini carbonara for me. The meal started with the waitress not knowing how to open the twist off bottle and then not knowing how to poor dribbling wine all over the table and menus. We had to wipe the menus ourself as she didn't seem to care she spilled wine on the table. Sign 3. The salads and soup that come with the adult meals were ok. The Caesar salad was a bit overdressed and the waitress had outright misstated that they had thousand island dressing (they have Russian and despite the servers comments, they are not the same). The soup was the best thing we ate all night though it was a bit surprising that the pasta fagoli has chicken stock so my vegetarian mom could not enjoy. Then came the meals. I should note that the carbonara has a note that they do not use cream but it is made in the "traditional style." I asked about this and they confirmed they make it the traditional Italian way. It's why I ordered. What I got was nothing of the sort. The under and uncooked pasta was sitting in a pool of what looked like pasta water and oil. For those that know, carbonara should be made with emulsified pancetta fat with egg yolk, Parmesan cheese and pasta water forming a creamy base. Nothing about this was authentic or tasty in any way. First bite had a stack of 3-4 strips of pasta glued together in the cooking process and raw to the bite. My suggestion is to never order this mess of a choice unless you enjoy consuming oily pasta water. The two other main dishes were not great either. Somehow the tomato sauce is now sweeter than a normal cannoli filling would be at a bakery. The chicken was dry and the eggplant was limp and unevenly cooked. Sauce is normally one of the key measures of any Italian restaurant and the sauce here has gone from solid to tragic. The chicken tenders were not much better. The kids wanted honey bbq and the balance of flavor on the sauce was off. I've had these in the past and they were now much sweeter than I even remembered. Also, the chicken was hammered inside the breading. The kids barely ate any of one tender each. All in all, this was not a good meal. Maybe the grinders or pizza are worth trying (I used to always enjoy the grinders) but the pasta here is not worth the price even with the large portions. It's sad as this used to be a go to that had fallen out of rotation and time away definitely did not do well by this place. For those who care, the decor is still the same as it has always been since this place opened. They still do have the tent outside though it was empty on a colder evening for the early fall. read more
