    Cheese slices!
    Tim S.

Very good pizza! Crust is thin but not too thin. With a bit of chew as well as crisp. Sauce was great- subtle and not overwhelming. Cheese was perfect. Slices are quite big if ordering by the slice. Will definitely return!

We rolled into Mondo Middletown like we hadn't eaten in a week. Fifteen deep. Loud. Hungry. Ready to do damage. I went straight for the Mondo special, thin crust, crisp, and built right. First bite told the story. The undercarriage had structure, the edge had crunch, and the toppings stayed in balance instead of sliding into chaos. Onion, peppers, sauce, pepperoni, sausage, bacon... all playing their role, nobody trying to be the star, and that's exactly why it worked. This wasn't a greasy overload pie. It was composed. Clean flavors. Sauce present but not drowning the dough. Cheese doing its job without turning the slice into a blanket. Around the table, it turned into a full-on pizza parade. * Barbecue chicken made the rounds. Sweet and Smokey * Tomato basil, simple, bright, the kind of pie you underestimate until it disappears * Sicilian, thicker, airy, satisfying, the "one slice turns into three" situation * Ozzy Egg, the wildcard. Rich, different, and the pie people kept talking about between bites I didn't personally get into every pie, but you could read the table. Heads nodding. Silence during bites. That "hold on, let me finish chewing" look. Universal pizza language for "yeah... this is legit." Keith came out and greeted us and jumped in for a photo like he'd known us for years. That stuff isn't staged. You can tell when it's genuine, and this was. The staff stayed on it the whole time. Drinks refilled, pies landing hot, check-ins without hovering. Friendly, attentive, and clearly used to handling a busy dining room without letting it feel chaotic. What stood out most was consistency. Nothing felt like a throwaway option. Whether thin crust, Sicilian, or specialty, the kitchen knew what it was doing. And the vibe matched the food. Casual. Welcoming. Built for groups. Built for exactly what we did, show up with friends, order too much, and stay longer than planned. Slice Mob left full and happy! Slice Mob Approved!

I went to Mondos Pizza in Middletown CT for the second time this past weekend and it was amazing. My sister got pizza , but I ordered the turkey avocado panini. It came with beer battered fries, which are to die for(no exaggeration). The panini was huge and really good. I had enough leftovers for two days. However, the wings were seasoned well but a little too fried and tough to chew. Overall, the food was good and everyone seemed to enjoy their meals.. I will DEFINITELY be back!

I love Mondo in Middletown! This place stays busy and that's because their food is delicious. I wasn't in the mood for pizza so I ordered pasta instead. I ordered spaghetti with garlic, butternut squash and Soppressata. OMG it was DELICIOUS & the presentation was incredible. The waitress went above and beyond and even brought me toasted bread with a side of olive oil and garlic for dipping. My brother got their Sicilian pizza and he loved it. My sister in law customized her own pizza and she was quite happy as well. The restaurant is a decent sized with a small bar. As said earlier it is always busy and they do a substantial amount of take out business as well. Definitely should be on your list! You won't be disappointed!

I've been to Mondo for pizza a few times, but until a few months ago, not since Portnoy gave them an 8.1. When I previously visited, my expectations weren't quite met, which probably had something to do with all the great buzz Mondo gets. For my most recent visit, I ordered a sausage and pepper pizza, and it was the best pizza I've ever had from Mondo. I'd call Mondo New York style thin crust. The sausage was in crumble form and the sausage juices flavored the pizza well. The peppers were good. The pizza had a good mix of crisp and chew. Average floppiness for a thin crust pizza with toppings. Nice cheese. Service was friendly and efficient. I'm far more likely to return to Mondo after this experience, than my prior experiences. 4.25 Stars

Mondo knows how to have Happy Hour on Weekdays 3-6. Had their incredible house white Sangria $5.00. Also I tried an item off the regular menu that not on the HH menu today. I had the Risotto Fritters that are homemade three cheese risotto fritters served with whipped ricotta. $12.95 and you get 6 good size balls. They were very filling and delicious. Try them you won't be disappointed. and of course the White Sangria was an added touch with the blood oranges that are freshly cut up in it. Grab a seat at the bar and get quick service and wonderful service.

    Nate's Lunch pizza

Mondo has been consistently great for a long time. Not only do they have great pizza, the rest of their menu never disappoints either. They have a small but delicious selection of pastas that always hit, and a bunch of paninis and salads. Our server was super friendly and I think their prices are fair too. This visit we ordered a Nate's lunch pie and a Waldorf salad. Their crust is thin, crispy, and chewy. This pizza had garlic, cheese, fresh tomatoes, bacon, and basil. It was delicious! I added lots of chili flakes as I often do, and next time I might ask if they could bake some into my pie because it was really good that way. The salad was fresh and perfectly dressed. It was an off time, but they were still busy, and there can often be a wait in the evenings to sit down. It's a fairly small space and can get a little loud when it's super busy, just as a note. They're definitely worth the visit though!

Another fun lunch - 2 slice pizza plus the arugala salad with lemon dressing. I like that is has candied walnuts, cheese and plentiful vegetables in this yummy combo. The staff is always friendly and kind to all customers. This restaurant has the gift of homemade fresh food and professional staff.

I am not lying when I say this is the best turkey sandwich and fries I've ever had Huge portions and so much flavor! I love the crispy texture and flavor on the fries. So good! I will absolutely be back.

Had another wonderful visit to Mondo's in Middletown. This time I tried their spaghetti and meatballs, and as always, the pasta was cooked perfectly. The sauce had a sweet, fresh flavor--almost like a spremuta di pomodoro--and I could tell the meatballs were prepared separately since their flavor stood out on its own. I really enjoyed the meatballs; you could clearly taste the blend of pork, sausage, and Parmesan cheese. I was pleasantly surprised that the portion of pasta matched the volume of meatballs, which you don't often see--usually, there's far more pasta than meat. Our waitress was polite and friendly. Even though the restaurant seemed a bit understaffed that night, she was attentive and kept a smile throughout. My only critique would be the seating and décor. The wooden chairs aren't very comfortable, and the interior could use a refresh--it feels like it hasn't been updated in about 15 years. Aside from that, Mondo's remains a wonderful local spot that serves consistently delicious food with great service.

This is one of my go to pizza places! We usually get a bacon or pepperoni, but we opted in for their specialty pizza. It came with bacon, pepperoni, sausage, onions, peppers, olives. The crust has just enough crispiness and the pizza isn't soggy, even with all of the toppings!! Service was quick, even with a little bit of wait time.

Since my last review, I have gone to Mondo more often, and have figured out that I only like their pizza when I dine in. I don't like it take out, and I don't like it cold, or reheated. It's a good choice for pizza in Middletown, when you're able to enjoy it hot and fresh! (They do a HUGE takeout business so I can assume most of Middletown disagrees with me lol...personal preference!) They have a great happy hour, and a few outdoor tables. Their salads are excellent, and large enough to share, if you're also getting other items. The staff are friendly and they hustle!

Over the past 2 years the service & food quality has been in steady decline. My most recent visit was inexcusable and I won't return. We decided to visit for "reverse happy hour" as an alternative from our usual thirsday night visit to Esca. We had Michael for our server and sat upstairs in the lounge. We were brought menus as we were sat and we ordered drinks to start, but weren't sure on food yet. Our server then proceeded to visit our table 4 times over the next 15 minutes to ask if we wanted to place a food order. It felt rushed. The vibe : awkward. The music was so loud I couldn't hear my server, my date or anything else besides the droning voice of Amy Grey. She had no spacial awareness and didn't know when to shut up. Incessantly talking over every song and not realizing that a bar gig is inherently different from the radio. The food : mediocre. We ordered steak frites from the happy hour menu which noted that the steak was "marinated". The 4 piece of tepid steak that came to our table were covered in this cloyingly sweet sauce that tainted the entire dish. Since the steak was served atop the fries, this sauce caused the fries (straight from the Sysco box) to become soggy and absorb the sauce which made the fries not so appetizing. We followed that up with a Cheese Pizza which was pretty good. The pizza here is their saving grace, and this place would do much better as just a slice shop. The drinks : abysmal. I started with a Skittles fruited sour from Transcend Brewery that Sicily had on tap. I was excited because it's rare to find their beer on tap outside of the brewery. It was served in the wrong glass. The F&B manager at Sicily needs to do a better job at making sure the bar is properly serving drinks. Teku glasses are essential for fruited sours. It didn't taste the same as it did in the brewery, however, for $6 I decided to just chalk it up to inexperience. I followed the beer with a Paloma, which was advertised as $5 for happy hour. When I ordered from my server I pointed at the menu showing the tequila listed for $5. As soon as I tasted the drink that was brought to me, i knew it was way off. I asked my server to ask the bartender what was in the drink because it didn't taste right. He told me that the bartender said "grapefruit juice", which is not the proper mixer for a Paloma. A Paloma only has 3 ingredients - Grapefruit Soda (Squirt or Jarritos are acceptable), Tequila & Lime Juice - it's a very simple cocktail. If you didn't have grapefruit soda, which is the main ingredient in the drink, just tell me that... I would have picked something else. The service : Impersonal & rushed. When i sent back the drink, the affect of our server visibly changed, almost as if he was angry or insulted that I would send back a drink that wasn't made properly. He asked if I would like something else, but my confidence in the bartender to make a proper drink had waned and I stuck with water for the rest of the night. My date continued with a 3rd glass of wine. About 10 minutes after this, my date got up to use the restroom, and our server came over and handed me a box for the remaining pizza, without asking if we would like anything else or if my date was done with her wine. He whisked away the half full glass and dropped our check effectively ending our visit. We weren't ready to leave. My date came back to the table and asked where the rest of her drink was and I explained the our server cleared the table and dropped the check. She said "I guess it's time to go". The nail in the coffin was when I picked up the check to see that I was charged for a $16 "Casamigos" cocktail. So i suppose if i had continued to drink the Paloma he would have been happy to charge me $16 for a $5 happy hour drink. The whole experience was off-putting and we didn't feel welcome. It felt as if our server was just trying to turn tables as fast as possible. I won't be returning and recommend others to stay far away.

The crust is thin with a crackery-crunch, the sauce is at a another level and the mozz and roni are high-quality deliciousness! Rendezvous stands tall with any of the well known top-3 pizza joints in New Haven. Dave's score of 9.1 (if you are unaware of the reference, then pizza isn't your thing) is right on point, and I'd go as far as scoring it slightly higher at a 9.2 based on my visit. The building is something out of folklore. The building is all of about 20ft. wide, and when you enter, it is immediate, Steve (owner/chef) is all about the pizza. To be clear, most will consider Rendezvous to be take-out only. There is zero decor, less signs made with cardboard and sharpie notifying you that wait times of hours are real..... so be sure to call ahead. You walk past the most basic seating area of 3-4 small tables with bare walls, and then proceed to walk down an oddly long and narrow sloping hallway which leads you to the service counter/kitchen which houses the 130-year old oven! It's honestly something you could only imagine out of a movie...... the hole in the wall that is creating high-quality, delicious pizzas! Why or how you ask? The answer is simple, Steve! The guy clearly has a passion for making pizza and has dedicated his life to doing so. I met the 'man-the myth-the legend' on my visit, and he kindly even took the time to chat with me.
