I travel to Middletown 2x per month and always find myself at Mondo. Excellent service from the bar for food and beers, whatever you need. The place is always busy, especially on Thursday nights but can always find a seat somewhere. Spaghetti and meatballs is outstanding and excellent value as well. Happy Hour was definitely 5 stars!!! I was looking for a happy hour with an array of food options, not just drinks and Mondo was exactly what I was looking for. I ordered one of everything off of the Happy Hour food menu. Pizza was good. I tried the Tomato basil slice and it tasted fresh. I knew I wouldn't have room to try the pepperoni, Fresh mozzarella, or BBQ so I'll try those next time. Fried cheese was delicious, loved the outside crunch. Spiedini was good, it was a different flavor vibe for happy hour. Eggplant fries were ok. Wings were nice and crispy, glad I got the sauce on the side since I'm not really a sauce person. Now I really liked the food but the Star of their happy hour was the housemade Sangrias! I tried both the red and the white. I couldn't decide which one I liked better? ENTRANCE - young hostess getting patrons seated but was a bit overwhelmed with our group of 10 and others. SEATING - there are a couple of booths but one sided. I mean in front of each booth are the high chairs with low backs MENU - pizza on one side a few sandwiches on the other with a few small plates. APPETIZERS - the bbq wings were slightly over cooked. The egg plant fries were new for me. While super dark brown on the outside they were not greasy. However there was no taste/flavor. PIZZAS - this is why they get 4 stars. They are all very good. Love their garlic bread pizzetta and calzones! Nice indoor ambiance and outdoor seating however we also often order takeout! Great local craft beer options dining in and the food is always a hit. We come here pretty often as a family and it's always a good time. Very friendly staff and always prompt service. That would be "Mondo" What restaurant consistently pops up on "Best Middletown restaurant" lists? That would also be Mondo. We had an 11:30 appointment in Middletown yesterday which gave us the perfect opportunity to check out Mondo's fantastic lunch specials. They are just $11.95 and are available weekdays from 11am-3pm. The specials consist of a choice within 2 main groups. The first group would be one selection from among five salads (Mondo greens, Caesar, Sherry, Tuscano or Arugula) and four appetizers (Fried mozzarella, Eggplant fries, French fries, or Homemade soup). The second group would be one selection from either a half of five paninis or 2 slices of pizza from within six choices (traditional cheese, tomato basil, pepperoni, fresh mozzarella, BBQ chicken, or peppers, onions & mushrooms). We both went for the pizza and salad specials. I went with a Sherry salad (Field greens, blue cheese, bacon, grape tomato, roasted pecans & sherry vinaigrette) and my wife went for the Arugula (Baby arugula, goat cheese, red onion, candied walnuts, tomato & lemon vinaigrette). They were advertised as half portions, but they were pretty generous! You can mix and match pizza slices from within their six available choices, so we went with four different - traditional cheese, pepperoni, fresh mozzarella, and BBQ chicken. I gotta tell you, these slices were BIG -they were more like a slice and a half. Thin NYC style crust, excellent sauce and a lot of toppings. They were delicious. Our two lunch specials and a club soda ran just $28.59 after tax and before tip. We brought home a lot of pizza from those four Mega Slices. Bottom line? Mondo was fantastic read more

Didn't quite make it today. Perhaps it was the windy and cold weather that brought out the crowds for lunch. There were four of us and we all ordered from the Lunch Special Menu. I chose the Caesar Salad [good dressing and cheese but too much white iceberg] and two slices of Margarita Pizza [cold and old]. This pizza, which two of us ordered, had been sitting around way too long and the cheese had hardened and cracked. I think that these types of pizza restaurants end up feeling a bit pricey sometimes for food that is not on par. Well, this place is the opposite! The food was really great and reasonably priced. I ordered a pasta and chicken dish and the mix of cheese and a rich, flavorful sauce made for a great combination. I also got an order of the eggplant fries which came with a nice, chunky marinara sauce. The wait staff was warm, welcoming, friendly and attentive. The room has a slightly see-thru divider in the middle of the room so it kind of makes it feel small. Plus you can't see the tvs very well if you're on the opposite side. My son and his friend split a pizza w/ pepp, jalapeños, and olives. It's thin crust and was pretty crispy but not much in flavor. My husband got a pepperoni and pineapple pizza. He said it was good, not great. I ordered a Caesar salad w/ grilled chicken. The chicken didn't taste grilled but maybe cooked on a flattop. The seasoning was ok but it was pretty dry, I didn't finish it. The salad dressing didn't taste like Caesar more like its cousin. The waitress was nice and frequent. Mondo is always solid. There's consistency across their food. Recently I think some of the appetizer portions were reduced, which is understandable but saddening. The spiedini and the arancini balls are both excellent. The menu recently has over focused on truffle balsamic. The Nate's Lunch is a really fresh pizza with nice layering of flavors. Service is usually good, but during the rush it's really easy to get forgotten. Takeout is amazing-food keeps well until you get home. Dining in is always really loud and can be chaotic. First night after a 8 hour flight I stubbled upon this pizza place and let me tell you this is a vibe. The people were super chill, staff was really friendly. I definitely felt welcomed walking in. I ordered a Waldorf Salad and a Small Mondo special and it was everything I needed and more. Definitely recommend if you like meat. Middletown is a cool place and it's hard to pick a place to eat when I'm here once, but for this trip it was Mondo that was a must visit restaurant. I came here with 2 friends on Friday night and was able to grab seats at the bar right away. I came here on a mission so even though the menu is full of awesome sounding pizzas, this man needed a calzone with mozzarella cheese and meatball and that's exactly what I ordered. The food didn't take long to come out, especially for how busy it was and when it did come out I fell in love (I kissed a calzone and I liked it). The crust was just the right mixture of soft and hard, the sauce was delicious, the meatball was superb, and it was an amazing calzone. Overall, I absolutely loved Mondo. The food was delicious, the staff was wonderful, the restaurant itself is really nice, and I'll support any business that has toys out for kids during waits. Well when you're craving pizza and don't want to drive to New Haven and Middletown is your closest choice. Mondo is your best bet for a New York style pie. We went with the Garlic Bread as a starter which was cheesey and garlic. I will definitely be getting that again, good amount of garlic flavor and a nice amount of cheese. I will say This place was really hopping for a weekday. The bar was filled and we had to wait a bit for our table. But after that Garlic bread we knew it would be worth the wait. We went with 2 pies the sausage and pistachio and the fresh tomato pie. The sausage and pistachio had a white base and the sausage was fresh and flavorful and every once in a while you get a nice crunch of pistachio in your bite. Overall a good pie. The other pizza was a red-based pie with fresh sliced tomato, basil and cheese. Even though it's not tomato season, the tomatoes were flavorful and the bites of basil made you want to go back for more. This place is definitely on our radar now if we don't want to drive all the way down to New Haven. read more

Tried Mondo for the first time a few weeks ago and it was great! When pulling up, employees approached my car for curbside pickup, so I didn't have to call or anything, the whole process was very quick. The food itself was delicious, my favorite was the fig flatbread. The flatbread had prosciutto and Gorgonzola I believe - the flavors all went together nicely. The pizza was also good, but the sauce itself lacked flavor and was just ok, but the amount of sauce and cheese and pepperoni was perfect. I will definitely try mondo again!! Usually, non-dairy cheese tastes like rubbery cardboard that was chewed to mush and then refrigerated. Not here, this was good, it melted and it didn't have that awkward taste to it. The chicken had a great taste to it as well, not that straight out of the frozen package texture to it. Plus the price was not scary as well. Delicious drinks & huge calzones! That's what I'm gonna think next time someone mentions Mondo. The calzones are so big they're big enough for multiple people. I was also OBSESSED with their grapefruit white sangria, it was so yummy. My husband who ordered a beer took a sip of my sangria and then switched to ordering these for himself because of how good it tasted. While I have eaten at Mondo a number of times and thought the food was ok, I recently tried the fresh mozzarella with basil pie and was extremely disappointed. Why? Paper thin crust thinly and barely covered with an overly salty sauce, sprinkled with a handful of fresh mozzarella and a few shreds of basil - one of the worst pies I have ever tasted, not to mention it was nearly $20! Even with canned pizza sauce, I have had better fried dough than Mondo's fresh mozzarella pizza. I should have stuck with Sicily"s down the street. read more

Ohhhh Mondo!! You really surprised me. I have a rule that if a cheese pizza doesn't taste good, the pizza is not good. It's how I determine the validity of all pizzerias. I ordered take out and when you open the door the smell of fresh goodness takes over. Before I had a slice, I knew it was official. I ordered a small cheese pie and wasn't expecting it to be able to feed 2-3 people for only $13 and change! I wanted a small just for me!! You can eat on that for a couple days! There is parking out front and a very nice size restaurant to sit down and enjoy your meal. They have limited outside seating tthatis nice for an evening meal on a nice night but I'd choose to sit inside if I dined in. The staff was very friendly and the kitchen looked very clean. I have been going to Mondo since the day they opened. They have been always able to provide great food and service ever since. However, today I had the unpleasant experience of having an argumentative waitress who rather than bringing the pizza I had ordered ASAP thought it was a better idea to explain to me why she wasn't bringing it, maybe thinking that somehow that would me feel less hungry.
