Without a doubt, this is the best restaurant in the area. The food is consistently outstanding, and the quality you get for the price makes it an incredible value. The service is warm, personable, and attentive, making every visit feel special. My fiancé and I had high hopes for "Mondo! on the River" based on the glowing reviews, but after two visits--one of which ended with us walking out--we sadly won't be returning. From both experiences, it felt like the restaurant is run by a team with limited customer service experience. It wasn't a staffing issue; there were at least six employees on the floor each time. The problem was attentiveness and follow-through. On our first visit with family, we ordered drinks and food. The "Vegetable Situation," "Mushroom Linguine," and "Meat Parade" pizza were all genuinely good. The cheese flight, however, was underwhelming--especially for a wine bar--and lacked thoughtful presentation. Service was slow and disjointed, but we chalked it up to a possible off night and decided to give it another chance. Unfortunately, our second visit confirmed our concerns. We sat at the bar hoping for quicker service. After ordering our first drink, we were left unattended for an extended period. The bartender disappeared, and we eventually saw them chatting casually with a guest in the wine shop. That was our cue to leave. We really wanted to love this place. The food has potential, but the lack of hospitality and consistency makes it hard to recommend. read more

We love this place! It is cozy and welcoming. The PEI mussels are amazing and my favorite thing to have every time we go. Last night, we had the creme brulee, which was also amazing and just the right size. In the nice weather, they have seating on the patio by the river, which is extra special. In the bar, they play old movies (without sound), which is also entertaining as it adds to the vibe and brings back memories. Last night, they played Logan's Run, and it got us chatting with other patrons at the bar, which added to the fun. Jane and David, and the rest of the staff, are friendly and take the time to interact with their customers. We recommend Mondo! to others all of the time. Check it out! read more

What a beautiful little gem of place to grab a drink and sit on the patio. This cute little bistro puts out some really lovely cocktails and food, which we admittedly did not stay for but in hindsight I wish we had. Listening to the server go over the daily specials had my mouth watering. Nonetheless it was a great place to have a few drinks and watch the water foul. Mondo! is a welcoming, unpretentious wine bar and bottle shop with nothing to prove, and so much to offer. Their by-the-glass menu is well-curated, diverse, and builds beautifully in body and complexity (and it's updated just the right amount). I also appreciate the uncomplicated, accurate descriptions. The owners are extremely knowledgeable and welcoming, and they read the room well. The relationship they have with their patrons is a testament to not only Mondo's quality and consistency, but also the owners' commitment and stewardship here in the community. Most impressive, their sourcing skills and pallet have also allowed them to offer true quality for an accessible price. Truly thankful to have this establishment in town. I recommend trying their Tempranillo and French red selections... and don't forget to check out the bubbles in the fridge. read more

I really loved this place! What a lovely surprise! We were here in order to see a Mile of Music concert, and came a little early in order to hopefully secure some seats for our main act. If we hadn't had other concrete plans for the day and places to be...I would have stayed here all afternoon and evening. I wouldn't say that it is particularly 'cozy'...but it is bright and welcoming and comfortable. The wine list isn't terribly large, but there is something for everyone and every palate. They have a good sense of humor about things, too, and the descriptions that accompany the wine are funny. Prices are fair and affordable (at least in comparison to larger city wine bars). The menu also has a few beers to offer. They have a small/limited food menu. The pizza appears to be frozen supermarket pizza stuck in a little pizza over for a few minutes. But I think that bars (not restaurants *with* bars....just normal focusing on alcohol bars) being able to offer any kind of food or snacks is good. The staff and service was fantastic! It was a brilliant place to get to experience the acts we saw as part of Mile of Music! If they don't have live music there on the regular...they should get that going! And there is a little courtyard outside and next to the building for your al fresco sipping sessions. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit here. And if I still lived in the area, I am sure it would rank in my top faves! read more

The wine tasting was fun! The host was humorous knowledgeable and interesting. Unfortunately, after the wine tasting it was difficult to get questions answered about the tasting in order to purchase several bottles of my favorites for a party. The host was busy and the staff was not educated about the tasting. The bottles that I did purchase from after beginning to take notes from the tasting did not disappoint at the party. The "house made pizza" is frozen Tino's pizza that was horrible as a child and is absolutely repulsive paired with expensive wine. read more

While in town for Mile of Music 7, this was our first venue stop and what a great place. It wasn't overly crowded but was busy. Even with the crowd, we were able to get some input from the staff and made a selection of a class of wine. Were it a normal day, I would have loved to see if they offered tastings, because everything sounded delicious. It wasn't a huge wine menu, but a good looking one. We didn't get a chance to see the patio they have, it was not open all day. If you find yourself in downtown Appleton, this is definitely worth checking out. read more

First of all a once star is a gift. My wife and I walked in looking for a good glass of wine. The owner gave us a wine and beer list which was kinda pricy. I believe then his wife came out and served us. We just wanted to pay as we go and not open a tap so from then our service went down hill. The owner was too busy trying to take a picture of a glass a beer in the window to even ask us about our wine. Then him and his wife went into the back room too never be seen again. 10 minutes later he came back out for something behind the counter. Never to acknowledge us again. As we finished our drinks they appeared back behind the counter. Never to ask how it was or if we wanted another glass. Very very poor service. Will never ever go back read more

Lovely wine bar with welcoming atmosphere in downtown Appleton. Awesome selection of wines and retail bottles for sale as well. Reminds me of Thief in Milwaukee in the public market. So close to Copperleaf, City Center and Raddison. If you want to have a great glass of wine in a classic jazz space this is the place to go. read more
