My wife and I visited Town Council for the first time on a Thursday evening, and the place was absolutely buzzing. Thankfully, we had a reservation for two seats at the high-top bar directly in front of the open kitchen and service line, which gave us a front-row view of the chefs and dishes heading out to the dining room. More on those seats later. The restaurant itself is modern, stylish, and upscale without feeling pretentious. Our server was friendly and attentive throughout the evening. For drinks, I ordered a Lion's Tail beer while my wife enjoyed a prosecco. We started with two appetizers: the Country Pâté for me and the Wisconsin Cheese Plate for my wife. Both were served with pickled vegetables, including cucumbers and red onions, and both were excellent. The portions were surprisingly generous and, in hindsight, we probably could have shared just one appetizer and been perfectly happy. One of the highlights of the evening was watching the kitchen in action. Despite a packed dining room and the added chaos of Thursday burger night, the chefs took time to chat with us and were incredibly kind and hospitable. The chef-owner, who was working directly in front of us, recommended the Roasted Trout, while my wife chose the Roasted Beets. The trout was beautifully cooked. The skin was left on and crisped to perfection, pairing wonderfully with the spaetzle. My only criticism is that it was noticeably oversalted. It wasn't enough to ruin the dish, but it did have me reaching for my water glass more often than I'd have liked. A few bites from my wife's beet dish provided a nice balance, as it was light, fresh, and flavorful. By the end of the meal, we were far too full for dessert, so we settled our tab and prepared to leave. Now, back to those high-top bar seats. The chairs are very tall. I'm six feet tall and still had to hoist myself up into mine. My wife, who is five feet tall, practically had to climb aboard. The view is fantastic, but after an hour and a half, a couple of drinks, and a great meal, it's easy to forget just how far off the ground you are. As I got up to leave, I nearly lost my footing and almost tumbled out of my chair. Unfortunately, my wife wasn't as lucky. She fell backward, hitting her head on the concrete floor and bruising her leg and forearm as she tried to break her fall. Thankfully, she was okay and didn't need medical attention, but she ended up with a sizable bump on her head and some impressive bruises. So, a word of caution: if you're seated at the high-top bar, be aware of the height. The food, service, and atmosphere were excellent, but those chairs are not for the faint of heart. Consider bringing a parachute. Would definitely return, though perhaps next time we'll request a table closer to ground level. read more

I was in the Fox River Valley area on an errand, I needed dinner, and Town Council was highly recommended by a local I met with. This place lived up to the hype! I don't know how often the menu changes, but it seemed clear that it did change. There is also a menu of wine, beer, and spirits available. I enjoyed excellent service from Claire and a truly exceptional meal consisting of the Scramble (duck egg, ramps, fingerling potatoes, and topped with crispy potato chips), Country Pate (toast points, stone ground mustard, pickled collard green stems and carrots, and fennel), and Smoked Ribs (corn bread with thyme butter and collard greens)! I loved the vibe of the place, which made it seem like a casual bar with decent bar food. I did not expect the high level of quality dishes I saw on the menu, which followed through to the plate compositions, and then onto my palate! There wasn't a single disappointing bite in any of the three dishes I ordered, which were all from the small plate/appetizer section of the menu under "Colds" and "Hots." The Country Pate board was a perfect start, and the Ribs are smoked in their outdoor smoker, providing a slight smoky flavor and very tender meat. Ribs are served over delicious collard greens and with a side of cornbread and thyme butter. I tasted an herb in the cornbread and forgot to ask, but it may have also been thyme, or just my imagination. The cornbread wasn't moist, but also wasn't dry, and it had the crumbly texture one looks for in cornbread. I did not expect to taste collard greens this good in Neenah. The Scramble was absolutely perfect! You can tell from the photo how perfectly the duck eggs were cooked. There were fluffy and flavorful, and they were served over sliced fingerling potatoes, and then topped with crispy housemade potato chips. I wanted to order more, but I was satisfied, and it was getting late. I still had a 90 minute drive back home and work the next morning. If you're anywhere Neenah, I highly recommend you eat here! read more

It had been too long since our last visit to the Town Council, and we won't make that mistake again. We travel lots and have great meals all the time. The Town Council is as good as it gets anywhere. My husband and I shared an appetizer -- the lamb meatballs melt in your mouth -- and both our entrees. I ordered a special -- Duck Breast Ragu. OMG. It was so flavorful, hearty and fantastic. My husband ordered the Winter Risotto and it was creamy, sweet and savory. Wonderful! (We traded plates and shared everything.) We sat at the bar, which is perfect if you are a couple. We watched everything being prepared by chefs that we are so lucky have in Neenah. They are amazing. Claire was an outstanding server, very attentive and helpful. We'll be back soon! read more

Having dined here numerous times, I can give it absolutely ringing endorsement. Their drinks always bring something new and fresh to the table, and if one is craving something niche, they probably have it. The food...well one cannot go wrong. My carnivorous spouse specifically recommends the ribeye - a generous portion to satisfy most appetites. I usually aim for a warm starter and a pasta main. Last night I enjoyed a tomato burrata salad, an absolutely divine hand-rolled gnocchi with mushroom-cream sauce and a goat cheese + peach ice cream sandwich. Still dreaming of it all fondly now. We fell in love with French food at town council. I really love their atmosphere, it felt like eating at a NYC restaurant right in downtown Neenah. Every time we've ordered steak it was done perfectly and their bolognese was some of the top I've ever had. We also highly recommend the pâté for the appetizer. My wife and I came in for our first visit. they were pretty busy but Hannah got us sat and ended up being our server for the night. She was very friendly and knowledgeable about the food. I decided to have the ribeye and my wife got the trout. We enjoyed our meal very much and Hannah was on top of things our entire visit. Her smile and attitude made our visit very pleasant. This was me and my brother's second time here. This time I also brought my cousin and my uncle. This place did not disappoint. Everything was amazing. This place is by far one of the best hidden gems in Wisconsin. The staff once again was awesome. Our waitress was amazing. The first time I came here was last summer. When we came in the person that waited on us last year remembered us this year. His name is Tyler. Great guy!!!!! Brings great energy to that place. Overall this place was great. My uncle said it was better than the meal we had in Vegas at hell's kitchen. Coming from him that is saying a lot. So this is our new favorite spot. Food done right. We have been here twice and it did not disappoint on both times. Great staff and you get to watch them make your food right in front of you, especially if you sit at the bar, which I recommend. We tried the gnocchi with mushroom sauce which was my fav. The ribeye was cooked just the way I like and the tomatoes on this dish tasted like smoked bacon. Yes, bacon. Great cocktails and a great bartender. Superb experience for our first time visit. Amanda was our server and she is the epitome of excellent service: knowledgeable, friendly, and constantly in motion--she was so attentive. Alex and she served every table inside without any delays. The food choices were delicious and it is obvious that John the owner studied at Le Cordon Bleu; the pairings of spices to each dish were spot on excellent. The Pork Rillette Cold Starter came on a wooden platter with crostini, Düsseldorf spicy mustard, red onion jam (I almost licked the platter) and pickled green beans/ yellow zucchini. The savory and sweet flavors juxtaposed perfectly. The Pork was like a pâté and was truly paired so well with the other offerings. For main courses we did the Vegetarian Tangine entree and the NY Strip plate to share. The Tangine consisted of quinoa, barrissa, goat yogurt and apricot--with a little seasoned heat as you tasted each forkful. The NY strip was served medium rare (yummy and perfect!) with a chimichurri sauce and crispy beef fat potatoes and mushrooms. Heaven on a plate and we did not leave anything behind. The cocktails were excellent, the wine was delicious and reasonable. We finished with espresso and shared desserts of Lemon Sabayon and of Flourless Chocolate Brownie (I promised I would work out at the gym to compensate!) Who knew this gem exists in Neenah, WI? We will obviously be back with friends to experience this treasure. They deserve every accolade possible. read more

If I lived in the area, I would be coming her way too often. In town for a week and came twice. Some creative ideas and interesting craft cocktails. They change the menu, not sure of the schedule, but did read something on their page about "depending on what is good" so I'm guessing sort of seasonal. It is a small place and while I enjoyed sitting at the bar watching the action, not everyone is into that. But got some cool ideas! I had the duck leg, which came with some sausage and kraut. An interesting variation and tasty as the acid from the kraut offset the richness of the duck very nicely. DC had short rib, that was meaty and flavorful. Also loved the whitefish spread. The second night we just had some of the small dishes and starters to get a variety of things. The pork rillettes come with a lovely assortment of pickles. The pickled kohlrabi was very cool. Really wanted to just explore all the charcuterie but not enough time. This place really stood out compared to all the pizza and burger places that seem to be the common fare around the fox valley. Some nice wines and we really enjoyed our cocktails. Highly recommend the old fashion as they have put an interesting variation on it. read more

Finally made it here! Went for an anniversary dinner and my, is it a romantic, chic restaurant. It's dim and small and cozy. We ordered multiple dishes and cocktails/beers to try, and it did dent the wallet a bit, but was absolutely worth it. The food was in.cred.ible. Everything I ate was delectable. Yea. I used that word. The rabbit dish was for sure over-salted but the rabbit was incredibly tender so how could I complain?? As for service, 'twas excellent. Had a very knowledgeable and friendly server. He even talked about how he grew something (I can't remember) that was being served to us. Loved that so much. It made my heart and tummy very happy. Less than great experience here tonight. About 1/3 of my ribeye was not edible as it was too tough. My dining partner only eat about 1/4 of her ribeye because it just wasn't very good. The fried tomatoes were disappointing. We would not recommend this establishment. read more

Had a really lovely meal here. We had reservations and were seated promptly. This place is SMALL...so don't bring a group or go without reservations and expect to be seated-I believe they have only one table that seats 5-6ppl, the rest are 2-4 and then there is the bar. Despite the weather being crappy, this place was packed full. The wine list is very meh-honestly it was my only complaint, albeit not a deal breaker by any stretch, it just could be a bit better. Cocktails are great, strong and generous in portion. We had a salad and a couple of other apps, they were all very delicious and the portions were really substantial. My steak was done perfectly, seasoned to perfection and the correct temperature. Very flavorful. My husband had a vegetarian dish that was really good despite him stepping way outside his meat and potatoes comfort zone-it was a great choice. For dessert we had a chocolate bar and panna cotta-both were the perfect end to our meal. I felt the price per plate was very fair as the quality was impeccable. Overall this was one of the best meals I have had in a long time and a lovely way to celebrate a special occasion. I highly recommend-One caveat-it can be a bit loud so if you're looking for more ambiance this might not work well for you. Friday night at 5p, no crowds, immediate seating for 4! We ordered a couple appetizers to share and each of us also ordered a large plate for dinner. I enjoyed every much on the creative and taste side of the menu and thought that they also strike a balance for vegetarians, pescaterians, and ominvores. The place is tiny and they don't take reservations. Fortunately they have a great bar that you can have a drink while waiting for your table. It's a great for 2-6 people to dine. There is only one table by the entrance that can seat six. The place is also noisy, so don't expect to keep quite conversations to yourslef. This has been one of the worst experiences I've had as of late! The server came to the table to offer beverages and I ordered a cosmo. He told me that they put a lot of work into their cocktails but he would be willing to make one. I thought that odd but went on to tell him I'd like a lime to which he responded, "I know how to make a cosmo!" When he returned with the drink it clearly didn't have crAnberry juice in it. When I questioned that he responded, we don't have that, I told you you should order something else.! WHAT?? I let him know that I felt his comment was off putting and he responded with defensiveness and denial. We left. Alex, where do you get off treating customers with this arrogance?? Best food in the area - very glad we came to check it out today - very much worth a visit

The chef knows how to cook, that's for sure! Our food was mostly excellent. However, the portions are small and expensive. Our server indicated that the menu section of cold and hot starters were plates to be shared, so my husband and I ordered the wedge salad to share. It is a deconstructed wedge salad and was tasty but tiny. It would have been a small salad for one; as a shared plate, it was a couple of bites each. We also each ordered the pasta bolognese. Again, it was excellent -- homemade pasta and a rich, flavorful meat sauce. But the servings wwere small; our two servings combined would have satisfied one typical adult eater. The dessert was not good: fruit pie, which reminded me of a McDonald's hot pie, and cheese ice cream, which was just icky. I had to grab a breath mint out of my purse to cover up the aftertaste. Most disappointing, though, was the atmosphere. When we spend $100 on a meal, we want to feel like we have been someplace special. Instead, this place is a bar with tables along the side. It is noisy with voices and then on top of that they play loud music. My husband and I could not have a decent conversation without shouting at each other. Worse, the grill behind the bar produces tons of smoke, which fogs up the room and makes for an unpleasant atmosphere. I'd love to see the chef at another restaurant where the great food can be served in moderate portions (rather than tiny ones), in an environment conducive to pleasant dining. Until that happens, we probably won't be able to enjoy the chef's food, because it is unlikely we will go back to Town Council. read more

Very cool concept. And here comes the but... Biggest turn off was about two minutes after walking into the restaurant. There are about 14 tables set up with seating for 4 and a long bar. The hostess and the manager refused to sit my customer and I at a table. We had to be a party of 3 or more. What? No amount of asking made them budge. So we perched up on high seats at the bar. When you start out like that, everything else has to be spectacular. Far from it. The short rib that I got was tender, but lacked flavor. Almost a third of it was fat. The menu is interesting in general. But coming from Chicago, would I come back here again the next time I'm in town? No. read more

This is our new favorite restaurant in the Fox Valley. Yes, it's pricey and because of that, we probably won't eat here as often as we'd like, but we ate here about two months ago and my husband and I still talk about our meals. The flavor, the creativity, and the atmosphere was all so refreshing to find in a restaurant around here. The service was also fantastic and everything our server recommended was fantastic. My husband ordered the steak and I had the pork tenderloin (I don't typically order pork but I took our server's recommendation and was very happy). We also sat at the bar, which we really enjoyed because the food was prepared right in front of us. The chefs were obviously very talented and serious about the food, and it showed in the end product. We will be coming back as often as our budget will allow read more

Had our first dinner out in the valley in awhile. Service was great but the food was not. We ordered the ribeye medium. It arrived raw, barely cooked. There were so many large chunks of fat it was difficult to eat (not marbled, huge pieces of just fat). Flavor was great just wished there was more actual meat and that it had been cooked as we requested. It came with ONE brussel sprout cut in half, one little mushroom and three tiny pieces of fingerling potato. The sauce on the side was so overpowering and the steak did not need it. Super loud music/atmosphere. We met friends out and could barely hold a conversation. Maybe we're just getting old?! But regardless I would not go back. read more

Anyway, sitting on the rail and watching our food and drinks being prepared in a symphony of hustle and bustle created an electrical connection in the short circuit in my brain!
