It wasn't the traditional omurice of an egg omelette but more so a scrambled fried egg on top of rice. Regardless, it was really good with both the tempura sauce for the fish and the omurice sauce. Pretty nice for $10 meals for something you would get for $15+ closer to UC/center city/Chinatown area. I liked my Katsu combo, it came with a lot. I wasn't a huge fan of the meat patty. After a few bites, the gravy taste got a bit underwhelming. Same goes for the seafood rice cakes combo my friend got (#25) the taste got boring after awhile. Next time we'll know to share our meals. The only thing I've ever ordered from here is the katsu combo, which I believe is around $10. The pork and chicken katsu are my favorites and they're always super crispy but juicy on the inside. When I got the take-out version of the dish, I don't think it came with enough katsu sauce or enough of the side-dish macaroni salad (or I'm just a lil too obsessed lol). Everything on the menu is around $10 and they also have lunch combo specials! The wait is around 10-15 minutes, but with the supermarket downstairs and other food places & shops in the cafeteria, it doesn't feel that long. This time I went with three other people and this is what we got (one person ate at a different stand): #29 Ssal Guksu (Rice noodles, beef, vegetables.) D Pop Corn Chicken (Smaller portions of marinated boneless chicken.) #9 Pork BBQ Deopbap (Marinated Pan Fried Pork w/ Rice, soup, side dishes.) I liked the BBQ deopbap. I love their rice and the side tofu that they give. I, personally, am not a fan of soup so my friend tried mine and she said it was a bit salty. I tired some of the popcorn chicken which was okay. I had this another time and it was good though. Didn't try the the ssal guksu though. Turn around! Usually when I'm starved, food taste better but not here and not today. Stopped by with my best friend for a quick bite before heading home. I remember coming here with my aunt for lunch but couldn't remember which vendor so I chose this one. Well long story short this was the wrong one. We ordered the seafood tteokbukki and #9 Korean beef. First I asked her if #9 was indeed bulgogi since it didn't look like it in the picture and she said Yes. And when it came out it definitely wasn't bulgogi & was every bit as dry as it looked. Secondly, the seafood tteokbukki did not have the freshest seafood which def turned me off. And usually tteokbukki comes with cut up boiled eggs and fried dumplings which weren't in this dish. I ordered it non spicy so my friend can enjoy it with me but it was more like non flavorful. And usually it comes with the red sauce that is sweet and a bit spicy, this was non spicy but just white! The banchan sides that came with our meals were nothing to brag about either. The miso soup was terrible. Since the beef was so dry my friend asked for any type of sauce and the woman looked offended. We received a small container of hoisin and gochujiang. We did not finish anything on our plates. Maybe an off night for the kitchen but more off putting for us. Will not be returning and a bit embarrassed I even brought my friend here. read more

I recently went to H-Mart in Upper Darby to go grocery shopping, but wanted to stop by the cafeteria upstairs for lunch. They have a couple stalls upstairs, but my friend and I decided on this place. The food was okay and was a good amount for what you pay for. However, I ordered the seafood tteokboki, and mostly saw/ate udon noodles. Even further, the seafood that was part of the dish was mostly fish which just flaked into the dish and got lost; there was good amount of fish cakes , also some shrimp and squid. Again, the food was decent and adequately priced and portioned, I just think that it's standard cafeteria food that is on par with some of the same quality food in the city. read more

My goodness... I just can't figure out why I waited so long to find this food court. This particular choice in the H Mart food court is every bit as good as anything I've had there so far. I chose the Don Kas combo which came with Chicken Galbi, Kimchee, macaroni salad, and a side of tofu with rice and miso soup. I do have to say that perhaps they overdid it with the starch. But I didn't care. That Galbi dish... unbelievable! I may get it alone next time I'm there. Although the fried pork is so tempting to me. My favorite is the fish katsu with omurice (fried rice with scrambled egg on top) but close second is the chicken or pork katsu. Large flattened piece of fried pork with a BBQ-like gravy on top, all blanketed over with an egg omelet. Sweet and savory. Dish comes with rice, soup, macaroni corn mayonnaise based salad, and another salad with thousand island dressing. 2) #23 Noodles Mixed w. Vegetables ($6.95) = Julianne cucumber and carrots, bean sprouts, shredded cabbage and lettuce, hard boiled egg, all arranged on top of noodles. Comes with a bottle of gochujang (red spicy sauce), for you to add your desired quantity of heat. A clean, fresh, cold noodle dish. Appeared to be a family run business, with the children working at the cash register. Was very accommodating to certain dietary restrictions, and was extremely helpful with making recommendations. I love this place. I've frequented H mart and the food court since it opened, and this spot has always been my favorite. They have great ddukbokki, and I usually alternate between the seafood and classic version. I like to bring friends that are new to Korean food because they can try some of the fusion dishes, like the spicy popcorn chicken. I really enjoy their fish katsu and omurice as well. Mong Shil is like the middle child that everyone forgets about. To the left is all the main korean dishes you could want. To the right is all the koreanized chinese dishes you could want. the middle has random dishes that doesn't neatly fit into the left or the right. Fortunately, it's hodgepodge of stuff on their menu makes for some interesting eats. Worth a try or two... Perhaps three. I recommend going blind or bring your 20-sided dice and take a roll. I didn't know what to get So I tried the Combo Menu where you pick two: I had Chicken Kas and Chicken Bulgogi. Combo comes with Miso soup, white rice, macaroni salad and one other side I have had before but am not sure what it is called. It tastes like potato. Very good. Not sure what it is about this place, but I've been eating here 7-8 times a month on average for the past 3 years and have yet to get even slightly sick of it. Sometimes when I'm not in Philadelphia, I get cravings for the chicken-kas, which is one of my favorites here. The chicken is always fried-to-order, and comes hot and crispy. The breading is the light, flaky kind they usually have in katsu-don, and is just plain darn delicious. It's served with a mysterious brown sauce, which is good, and comes with a small amount of shredded lettuce, a bit of macaroni salad, and a bowl of miso soup, which balances everything out nicely. They also have pork-kas, which can be served with or without stir-fried kimchee (delicious), fish-kas (two large slices of katsu-don style fried fish with tartar sauce, rice, and a small salad), and a really nice entrée-sized tuna salad, which has about three different kinds of shredded lettuce and carrot, dressed with sesame oil rather than normal salad dressing. The salad is large, so I get it whenever I crave vegetables, but sometimes the raw tuna isn't very fresh so I usually substitute it for chicken, which they're more than happy to do. They've recently expanded their menu to include more conventional dishes, like stir-fried fish and such, but I've yet to try them. The spices are done right, authentic Korean style, and the prices are totally reasonable. You would pay more for the same foods in a restaurant and the restaurant food wouldn't be as good.
