The Mongol King is a staple for my family. We've been going here for years and they have been consistent! I love coming here. They start you off with soup, rice, and sesame bread biscuits. Once you are seated they bring you sesame bread, soup, rice, and a drink of your choice. They have several kinds of meat to choose from as I got the chicken and pork. Once you choose your meat you move to the vegetable station then to noodles and finally the sauces. I had pretty tame expectations here and they were all thoroughly disappointed. Everything about this place is sub-par, from the room temperature raw meat sitting out on the buffet line to the lackluster service. The soup was too salty, the egg roll was an affront against God and all fried foods everywhere, and the BBQ bowl was forgettable- sad really. I've eaten literal garbage that tasted better (a long story involving MDMA and a sheet-cake) and had more fun recovering from dental surgery. I went to Mongol King for a to go order. I would have to say this spot was a good choice to grab some dinner. I ordered 3 plates to go of their all you can eat dinner plates. The bowls you use to fill up your choices of meat and veggies was slightly smaller than previous spots I had went to but with the right technique and packing skills I made sure each plate had enough bang for your buck. You have to make sure you make use of the sauces. Their spicy sauces were my choice and it was well worth mixing. The service was pretty fast, literally in seconds after you place your packed bowl on the counter the cook's grabbed them and got started on cooking your items. They cooked everything very well. Once the cooks were done the server packed my food very quick along with some rice and bread. For $12.99 each for their dinner All You Can Eat is well worth it. My husband and I used to love coming here. We haven't been here since before covid (over a year), so we were excited to have dinner here tonight. We walked in and immediately noticed the meat that is usually frozen, was completely defrosted, and looked like it had been sitting there all day. Even though this place is not very big, they do a decent job on the Mongolian BBQ. The selection doesn't look like much but it has all your needs meat and veggie-wise to make a killer plate of food. I opt for pork and tofu and cilantro, broccoli, water chestnuts, zucchini, baby corn, onion, green onion, spinach. Perfect for those not wanting carbs--just skip the noodles! The Food: This is a mongolian bbq joint, and if you go during lunch time they have an all you can eat buffet which is really worth it for about $15. They have a decent selection of meats, beef, pork, chicken, turkey and lamb but not the highest quality like no all you can eat mongolian places. Met up with an old friend for lunch and what better place to go to than a place you used to frequent often with them. Que Mongol King. Me: how about dumplings I know a great local place Friend: umm no Me: thai food? Friend: thai food?! when did you start eating that? Me: oh geez... Me: Mongol King? Friend: HELL YEAH! Drive fast they close early. We actually thought we were not going to make it but they closed at 3pm instead of the 1:30pm my friend thought. SCORE! Just like old times, before you even get seated at a table you pretty much order as you walk in the door. I went for the one trip and being the manly man he is, he went for the AYCE. Ordered our drinks, picked up our bowls and it was load up time. Like the old days, I was still amazed how he built his bowl. Piled HIGH yet nothing toppled over. I got the hang of it instantly and it was just like old times. Filled my bowl first with my meat choices (beef and chicken). Pork, Lamb and Turkey are also available. All meats are thinly shaved and flash frozen. Next trip was to the veggie station. Pretty much everything you can think of. Broccoli, carrots, bean sprouts, cabbage, bell peppers, tomatoes, onions, cilantro, green onions, pineapple and much much more. Time to sauce it up. There you will also find another surplus of choices. Teriyaki, soy sauce, garlic sauce, dragon sauce, jalapeno oil, fish sauce and the list goes on. After sauces is noodles (if you choose) and then repeat the sauces. I like to sauce in between layers as well but if the place is crowded it can be kind of hard. Last step is the wok. You set your bowl down and watch them get to cookin. In about 3 minutes or so your piping hot creation is plated and ready for consumption. Don't forget to tip the cook! The AYCE came with a small cup of soup, 2 fried wontons, 1 veggie springroll and the yummy sesame seed pocket looking breads. One plate does me fine but getting the AYCE is worth it bc of the extras you get on the side. You can do up your bowl as you please. But, highlights of this place is that it is kept very clean, they feature tofu (rare to find at mongolian joints) among the meats (chicken, turkey, pork, beef, and lamb), the servers have been the same for years (so they know the regulars), and they have amazing brownies for dessert! Also, the egg drop soup is actually good -- no dishwater yuckie taste! Yay! Two options: a one-trip or an all-you-can-eat (AYCE). Prices: Lunch ($8.49/$10.49) or Dinner ($10.49/$12.49). +1 star for a cool name! A little dirty, but Signora and I really enjoyed Mongol. It was a Saturday evening around 6 PM, and the place was hopping. I guess AYCE brings them in. Meat selections are good: beef, chicken, lamb, pork. The meat itself is odd; it comes in frozen slices that are covered with white frost right out of the freezer, but looks like normal frozen meat slices when partially thawed. And hey, when frozen, it's easier to pick up a big mess of them with the tongs and fill your bowl. A selection of 6 or 8 sauces make the difference between ordinary and tasty Mongol fare. I chose the Demon Spice, which was of the jalapeno heat variety. Ho hum but tasty. The chefs do a nice job of cooking everything on the big honkin' stone in the middle of the place. At $12.95 each, pretty good for AYCE. And the nice thing is you control the ingredients, so if you can look past the frozen meat discs you can have a nice Mongolian-like feast. Nice staff, too. Dining at this restaurant seriously brings me nostalgia like no other; I would often cruise to Mongol King with some buddies after early dismissal from middle/high school, knowing that (numerous) plates of tasty grilled-up meat, noodles, and veggies would be waiting for me. The food is affordable and tasty and the level of customization is pretty top notch; all-you-can-eat should set you back about $12-13, and you can definitely have yourself an affordable food baby if you play your cards right. Furthermore, the service is speedy (although not much service is really required, after all) and pretty attentive. This was the place for me to go for high school for lunch. Friends and I would go and try to stack as many as we can onto the one bowl to get the maximum amount of meat and veggies. We even started to use a method of take another bowl and pressing the meat down so it can be even more compact! Ruthless yes, but we were in high school! Haven't been back for quite a few years but we decided to drop by. The place is pretty old now and you can tell as soon as you walk in. We were delighted to find that they had an AYCE option for a little under $12. That's actually cheaper than most of the AYCE Mongolian BBQ spots around South Bay. They have your typical selections of protein: beef, chicken, pork, turkey, lamb, and tofu. The meat are sliced frozen but thanks to it being a little fatty, the flavors are still there. Veggie selections are the norm as well, with the usual such as onions and broccoli. There's a poster on the wall that tells you how much ladles of sauces and variety of water to add, but no matter what you add, make sure you add enough of the lemon water and ginger water. Not only will it help dilute all the salty Mongol sauces you add so it's not overly salty, it'll also help with making the meat more tender. Experiment and you'll eventually find your combination! There's an salad bar which is quite sad actually so I didn't really take anything from it. Egg rolls and fried wontons aren't bad and tastes like the ones from Costco. Don't try the kimchi... it's just odd. Actually just skip that whole left section of the buffet and concentrate on the other side! There's desserts such as brownie, jello, and soft serve but I had 3 plates of BBQ and couldn't eat anymore, but at least there is dessert? For around $12, it's a pretty good deal since other places charge up to $14, 15 for AYCE dinner. May not be the freshest in terms of meat, but it's the same everywhere else. I came here all the time when I lived in the area (ahh, the high school years), but now I stop in occasionally on my weekends in the South Bay. I always look forward to their sesame breads... yum! I love that it has an all-you-can-eat option, so I don't need to push my food into the bowl. And I can control how much sauce and oil goes into my bowl. On a side note : keeping the meats separated should be done - using the same tongs for chicken and beef ? - isn't that considered "cross contamination" - I would advise your staff to brush up on the "food handlers test" if reference is needed. Awesome place. Just what I was looking for; was craving mongolian bbq for dinner and searched yelp. I'm glad I checked this place out. Parking is plenty, but seating is limited. We got there a little late, but it was somewhat busy. Was able to be seated quickly though. There were 5 different meats: beef, pork, turkey, chicken, and lamb. I only bothered with the beef and turkey. The quality was mediocre. Nothing spectacular, but not like you didn't want to eat it. The cuts were inconsistent. I guess because it was the end of the night, they didn't replace the beef, but it was dwindling and the only pieces left were little scraps. Something you'd have to use a spoon to eat. They have all kinds of vegetables, but in my mongolian bbq I just stick with onions and scallions. Thinking back, I probably should have put some other stuff in it. Next time. They also have a bunch of different sauces, none of which were anywhere near as spicy as I would have liked. The first time I made my bowl, I wasn't sure how much sauce to put in so I put one scoop of different sauces (Spicy, garlic, mongol, and dragon something), but it was quite bland when I got to eating it. I think I remember several people mentioning it being flavorless here on yelp, but it is a buffet; you can change the amounts of everything. So the second time around I drenched my bowl. It turned out great, but again, not spicy enough. I ended up mixing in some sriracha and it was perfect. There is also a 'salad bar' of some sort where I tried their fried wontons (which I could not decipher what was inside) and fried egg rolls (with mushy vegetables inside). I remember seeing also some kimchi of some sort and a salad, none of which seemed too appetizing. I was there just for the bbq anyway. I was quite satisfied with their dessert. There was a soft serve ice cream machine with vanilla, as well as what looked like jello and a huge tray of brownies. I put the brownie at the bottom of the cup and filled it with soft serve. Delicious! All in all, I was very satisfied with the food. The price was acceptable for me as I did a whole lot of eating. Ended up paying $15 including tip. My experience with Mongolian BBQ is moderately diverse. I first had it when I was going to UCLA at Mongol's in Westwood. To me, that set the bar and was the standard for Mongolian BBQ because it was always delish and a good value. Since then, the prices have gone up and they started getting stingy with the noodles, but they were still the taste I compared all other BBQ places to. In my experience, there are two types of places: 1. places where you do your own sauce selection 2. places where you tell them how hot and garlicy you want it and they do the mixing for you (like Mongols). Personally, I prefer the type #2 if they can do it well enough. However, I have been to Big Wok and now this Mongol King and kind of enjoy the control I have over my sauces since I can be very liberal with them. So getting to this restaurant, it's all you can eat, reasonably prices for that feature, has a good selection of meats, a great selection of fresh veggies, lots of sauce options with clear directions, two cooks working in parallel during busy times, and a variety of other accompanying items to enjoy (salads, soup, rice, soft serve, etc). If you put some extra sauce on (I usually double what the directions are just to make sure there is sufficient flavor and moisture) then the end products are great tasting and you will definitely be full (how could you not be)? The one complaint I have about this place is that once you are seated, the service blows. Refills of drinks, getting extra napkins, silverware, etc. either requires flagging down someone or just waiting a while. They have a "let's get you set up and then you're on your own" approach that I don't particularly like, but it might be the offset to the price and quality benefits you get. AYCE Mongolian BBQ. Probably not as commercial as Big Wok or Genghis Khan, but it's also not located inside a mall with lines curling around the goddam food court. When you are seated, you get a mushroom soup containing a couple slices of white mushroom and fried wonton chips (for texture?). The soup was good but only because of the copious amounts of MSG used. The mongolian bbq selection was pretty much standard. They have a bevy of sauces which I liked mixing and matching. I like that they had some kimchi at the buffet bar along with eggrolls, wontons, salad, etc. I like that they had a soft serve machine, great for dessert. located in between the salad and the meat, strange but hey, not my restaurant. You know, they say to never judge a book by its cover. An ugly duckling can turn into a beautiful swan; at least in fairy tales they do. In the real world however, looks can definitely make or break a dining experience. When it comes to Mongol King in Torrance, this ugly duckling definitely impacts your dining experience. DECO: 2 stars When you look at the outside of this nonchalant Mongolian restaurant, nothing really catches your eye. The outside has large bold letters that spell out its name and that's about it. However, it's the inside that really gets you. The interior is built like a half Chinese restaurant, half business office. If you've ever seen an office building turned into a deli, this is kind of what it feels like. The walls are bland colored, with strange choices for decorations all over the place. White globe shades encircle the lighting fixtures. Old faded wooden tables and chairs line the walls. Even the food area looks sad. The enclosures for each item looks like a jail hid behind a sneeze guard. Although it makes sense to only put out enough food for the people dining, the small portions in large openings make for sad eye candy. However, there is one truly interesting piece of hardware that is impressive: the giant circular heat disc. In Mongolian dining, you choose the ingredients you want (from the food area a la buffet style), the sauces, and you hand it over to the chef who cooks all the ingredients similar to a wok on this giant iron disc heated from below. As he churns your diced meats, vegetables, and noodles over this intensely hot surface, he circles around the disc like a merry-go-round. Within a few minutes, your mash up of ingredients becomes a beautifully mixed bounty of delight. FOOD: 3 stars The choice of meats available are beef, chicken, pork, and lamb. These are frozen meats sliced thinly for faster cooking. The vegetables range from broccoli and baby corn to sliced carrots and mushrooms. They have over ten different types of sauces, from "regular" to "dragon oil". With all these different combinations, it's really up to you on what type of food you want to eat. If you're confused on how to go about it, just experiment. Just remember, lamb is usually a very strong tasting meat, and could drown out the flavors of the other meats. But there's nothing quite like food made fresh and hot, right in front of you. They also serve you some wontons, an eggroll, and a light soup before your meal. These are to be avoided at all costs as the soup is bland, and the wontons and eggroll are too hard. Just stick with the main course. PRICE: 3 stars The pricing is fair, with a lunch buffet of all you can eat being $9.99. Not to mention, they also have a vanilla soft serve available after your consumption of all that meat. SERVICE: 2 stars The service is also nice, although lacking. The older female waitress reminds me of Claudia Black (Farscape, Pitch Black). Like if she was Claudia Black's great aunt. CONCLUSION Mongol King has some good food; freshly prepared food in front of your face is hard to find. However, ultimately the deco drains you. Although you might be rocking out to some tasty food, you'll slowly find yourself wanting to get out of there as the mood gets you down. I went one afternoon when they were not busy and everything was great. The food was fresh and tasty. Service was very nice. The restaurant interior was inviting. The only thing I did not care for was the white rice. It was a little soggy not fluffy like rice should be. read more

Price is more than double the price listed on the website. I'm not one to complain about price, however you never see a menu with updated pricing. Only get your bill at check out. It's unfortunate. read more

We joined a party that was already at the restaurant, but we were never given soup or wontons/eggrolls. When we asked for more bread, the guy wanted us to tell him exactly how many more pieces we wanted, and he wouldn't leave or bring us any until we estimated a number. ??? I made my first selection with noodles, and my second was just meat and veggies that I ate with rice (I liked that much better btw.
