Soup was very bland (no flavor), pasta salad was one spoon full and also no flavor, salad dressing was watered down also no flavor. Quality of this place has gone down. I'm sad because I used to love this place :(. Now I have to find a new spot.

In coming into the No.1 Sushi and Grill and viewing the different Teriyaki bowls and Sushi Rolls, we decided to order the " Spicy Chicken Bowl, The Hawaiian Roll , the Spicy Egg Rolls and the Enamae what a very good treat! The Spicy Teriyaki Bowl was a perfect blend of Soy, Garlic, and Ginger! the vegetables were fresh and full of crunch! The Hawaiian Roll. The Tuna had a good buttery taste, and the rice in both dishes was perfect, not starchy or sticky! everything was perfect and all had great flavor! The chef made a great presentation ! Service was very helpful in making selections and very helpful in all ways!

The good: I'm so glad I checked this place out! I'll definitely be coming again. I got a free Calpico drink with check-in! You can pick whatever free drink you want from their self-serve drink fridge. The rolls were super affordable. I haven't seen prices like this for sushi since I was in college. The value was unbeatable thus making this a 5 star in my book. This might not be the super high end type of sushi you might get at other places but I thought the quality was superb especially for the price. I got the eel special roll and crunch roll (both without raw fish because I am pregnant). The interior is super casual and has a take-out feel. There is outside dining spots as well. The lady at the register was also friendly. The place had a mom-n-pop hole-in-the-wall casual feel to it. The bad: The plaza is not the nicest looking plaza. The interesting: My order was made really quickly when I ordered on Doordash for pickup.

Sushi tasted so fresh. 3 rolls for $36 for two people. We were both full after. Highly recommend

Very unassuming restaurant when you drive up. The sushi was fresh and flavorful. We had the best friend roll which is topped with fried onions. I was greatly surprised to find out these onions were prepped and seasoned in house, not store bought/prepackaged! If we're in the area again I would definitely go back and try other items. They had a decent flow of traffic purchasing food which is good for business and reputation. Always a plus: everyone who served our table did so with joy & kindness. We appreciate that!

We were in the area and my kids LOVE sushi, so we yelped and saw nice reviews for this place. This is a mom and pop shop. Pop behind the counter taking orders; mom serving water and providing place settings. Nice people. I think they were Korean. Looks like a take-out / diner. No frills. No ambiance. Not that the kids need that sort of thing. We ordered: - Rainbow - Hawaiian - Alaska - spicy tuna Our favorite was the spicy tuna. Which says something. The fish atop other rolls were on the thin side. Rice consistency evoked more like Korean rice (moist) versus Japanese sushi rice with the vinegar and fanning treatment - It this takes labor and time - but shouldn't be skipped. Would my kids come back? They said yes. They like our usual go-to authentic sushi place better but this hit the spot. Would I drive out of my way? No. Didn't quite check the box for my adult taste buds.

Once you step inside, though, it feels like a completely different world. The atmosphere is both casual and classy, with a clean, well-maintained dining room and tasteful decor. Service was quick and efficient. Ordering from the tablet was convenient, and I appreciated that both water and miso soup are self-serve from a machine, which adds a nice touch of cleanliness and convenience. The food was excellent and offered great value for the price. The fish was fresh and cut generously thick, while the rolls were absolutely packed with ingredients. They definitely don't skimp on portions here. Fresh food, generous servings, a pleasant atmosphere, and efficient service--an easy 5 stars!

I'm sure it was on but it must have been set to like 80. Our party of 8 was sweating the whole time while we were eating and it wasn't from the alcohol because none of us drank. Water is self serve but you have to ask for ice. Miso soup... it was so bad. It was like warm water with miso coloring. Would I go there again? No. I've been to better ayce places.

I am disappointed in myself for waiting this long to try Ueno Sushi. I've been driving by this location on Carson st for 10 years. It used to be something else (Thai maybe?) before it was a sushi restaurant. I think it was something else before that. I never went here because I thought the food would be mediocre given the history of changes but I was so wrong. SO WRONG! I came here on a Friday night for a party of 1 and while the restaurant was full and many customers were coming in for their reservations, I did not have to wait. The Sashimi Combo 10pc was surprisingly generous. Every single piece of sashimi was huge. I honestly thought they forgot to cut each piece in half lol. It also comes with a bowl of rice, salad, and miso soup. I finished the night with blue fin toro sushi. For those who might find themselves confused like me, this is labeled Sushi on the menu, but it is better labeled as nigiri -- the sashimi on a small ball of rice. It comes with two pieces and the tuna was HUGE. I almost couldn't see the rice! I was blown away by what I was getting but it makes sense given the price I was paying. I was so happy. Overall, great food, wonderful portion sizes. Downside is the pricing but it matches what you're getting. The biggest downside is the parking. It is a small parking lot so you may have to get street parking. Other than that, I'm coming back.

The chefs are visible. The staff is plentiful. The music is good. The atmosphere feels like the kind of place that understands hospitality. Unfortunately, the experience never quite came together. The first challenge was the temperature. The dining room felt more like a sauna than a restaurant. To his credit, our server Arthur worked hard to help and eventually got management to increase the air conditioning. He was easily the standout of the evening and did everything he could to salvage the experience. We ordered extensively, including the $130 Ise Course. Some of it was quite good. Some of it was surprisingly disappointing. The grilled lobster with yuzu miso and kinome was completely overcooked, dry and buried under too much sauce. One of the signature dishes of the course ended up being one of the weakest. The grilled yellowtail suffered from the same problem: dry, overcooked and lacking the care you would expect from a restaurant presenting a seasonal multi course menu at this price point. The larger issue was organization. Dishes constantly arrived with servers asking, "Who ordered this?" or "Who has the udon?" The dining room felt strangely disconnected from the kitchen. Food runners seemed unsure where dishes belonged, which created confusion throughout the meal. Then things really went sideways. Trying to be respectful, I asked that my parents be served first. Everyone eventually received their meals and continued eating. The problem was that my Ise Course never arrived in sequence. My family finished their meals. My children finished. My parents finished. My sister finished. And on my birthday, I sat there alone waiting for several missing courses while everyone else watched. A seasonal set menu is supposed to feel paced and intentional. Instead, it felt forgotten. Arthur again stepped in and spoke with management. The restaurant offered complimentary desserts, which was appreciated, although somewhat awkward because my meal was still arriving while everyone else was already moving on to dessert. What happened next genuinely surprised me. When the bill arrived, management returned and asked whether we would be willing to authorize an additional charge so gratuity could be increased from 18% to 20% because of the size of the party. After the heat, the delays, the confusion, the overcooked centerpiece dishes, the missed pacing and spending a birthday meal eating alone after everyone else had finished, it felt like the wrong conversation to be having. I don't enjoy writing reviews like this because there is clearly talent in the building and Arthur deserves recognition for how hard he worked. But hospitality is ultimately about making people feel cared for. On this visit, despite a beautiful room and some good food, that never happened.
