Plenty of seating at lunch on a Saturday.
    Laura B.

I had a great experience here. I stopped in for a quick lunch on a Saturday. Shreveport was under a boil notice, so my Diet Coke came in a bottle, no ice. The iced tea was unavailable too. No fault of theirs, likely due to the bad weather the week before. Crispy bread and marinara sauce arrived. It was sweet but lukewarm, which seemed odd. Still tasty, though. I ordered lasagna and it was delicious. Yes, their sauce is sweet. I love sweet sauce, so it was a hit for me. I wish I could have enjoyed more or taken it to go. My server was delightful, I wish I could remember her name.

Milky Way cake is one of their dessert offerings. It's basically a flat brownie with super rich icing.

I wish I had photos but I sent the food back so fast I never got a photo. They only offer 2 choices of pasta-fettuccine or spaghetti. The marinara sauce is extremely sweet and tastes like it's from a jar and they added sugar. I asked for the Alfredo-marinara mix to go on top of the eggplant Parmesan only to find out both sauces are sweetened and dumped on top of a lumpy pile of fettuccine noodles. The eggplant parm tasted like it had been cooked a while ago(days) and re-heated. Not fresh food. The decor is very dated and "low end". They actually have green garland strung with old school Christmas lights hung from the ceiling. I know this is a Shreveport favorite but unfortunately for us it did not check any of our boxes. We wanted to love it as my husband's favorite food is Italian. Worst part was that when I received my entree I took one bite of the eggplant and one bite of pasta and left it alone. The server asked how we were enjoying everything so I was honest and told her I didn't like any of it and why. She removed the plate and returned it to the kitchen. We never saw the manager once. They never came to communicate with us. Lastly, we asked for our check only to find that the eggplant parm was not removed from the total! Do restaurants believe that customers want to pay for food we can't eat? And when I say can't i don't mean wouldn't. I mean couldn't! It was inedible in my opinion. My husband had the twice baked lasagna and said it was "ok". All of it a far cry from authentic Italian we are used to. Also, the Milky Way cake tastes like a flattened brownie with super sweet icing on top. There is nothing "Milky Way" ish about it. Very Disappointed...

Toasted ravioli. Good, but won't order again.

Monjunis is a Shreveport classic. If you want something light and delicious at a steal of a price, you can order their Italian side salad. Side salad?? Yes. Side salad. It's a generous portion and more than enough to fill you up. I love the olive mix on top. This is what I typically order. Note: the other location does not let you only order a side salad. Today, I decided I wanted pasta and got their spaghetti with 1 meatball. Depending on your preference, you may love or hate their signature sweet marinara sauce. I personally really enjoy it. And I looove that they drench the pasta in sauce. I love my pasta saucy haha! The tender, savory meatball goes well with the sweetness. And this portion is HUGE. I will eat my leftovers for dinner tonight and for lunch tomorrow. If you don't like sweet sauces, don't fear! They have a classic basil sauce you can choose that is equally as good. My mom got the toasted ravioli today. It's technically a starter, but she got it as her entree. There is an option to choose between 6 or 12. 6 would have been the perfect amount. The ravioli were served with a small bowl of sauce for dipping. We would not order this dish again, but it was decent. It was basically fried squares of cheese without much seasoning. They are also famous for their mint tea. I prefer tea elsewhere in the area (won't mention names here), but Monjunis's tea might be worth trying if you like your tea extra minty! It is true that their prices are a bit high, and that's the main reason we don't frequent this place too often. (The prices are one reason why I like to order a side salad to eat as my meal). It would be fantastic if they would make their portions a little smaller to reduce prices. Like I said, their entrees are overly generous, and you are sent home with bountiful leftovers. Just a thought... Before finishing, I have to mention Persia, our lovely waitress from today. We've had hit or miss service here in the past, but Persia took great care of us. She was amazing!!! Thanks, Persia!

MAN!!! Okay so we were obviously hungry. We ordered a lasagna pan, salad, and bread. They said it'll be ready in an hour. Got there and was immediately greeted. Every employee was super friendly and nice. The order was to-go and READY! Place was clean and warm. The food was more than enough and THE BOMB! The salad was sooo fresh. The lasagna had equal ratio of cheese, meat, and noodle. Same good ass food like always. Let the pics do the talking. Oh it was funny cuz one employee asked if we were having a party because it's sooo much food!!! They even loaded it all in the car (SWEET!). We love Monjunis

Best muffuletta you will ever have. Been going to the restaurant for years and years and never a disappointment. Try the local beer selection and the Italian wines. Specials for Valentines dinner for two looks yummy.

If you give it a few minutes you'll start to think you're in a place in Little Italy waiting for one of the Sopranos to walk in. Nice. Very gracious host and very quick service for lunch. Our server was really efficient and sweet. She even helped identify the photo on the wall (one of many showing famous people eating spaghetti) of Marcello Mastroianni, a famous actor from the 60's. Wife thought he was James Dean. The pasta is obviously homemade and perfectly al dente. Meatballs are large and luscious with just the right amount of garlic and spice. I was surprised at the color of the gravy but it was fantastic, just enough sweet garlic and tomato flavor to linger in the mouth. We had the in-house garlic bread. The bread is infused with real garlic and is tender and just enough chew to be satisfying. The crust is crunchy and has a mild smoky flavor. My only complaint for the whole experience was the warm baked bread came with a pat of FROZEN butter. A little jarring but the bread was warm enough to melt it a little, eventually. We got to-go boxes and took home as much as we ate. Get extra bread to go, it's that good (bring your own warm butter). We're on a tour of Shreveport lunch spots and this one is now on the official permanent rotation! Thank you!

Of course The Mabry House is superb and excellent... 2Johns Steak and Seafood, too. But one of my most favorites was Chianti from the early 80s... They have always provided excellent service and have been accommodating every time I've had special requests. Last night, my brother, son, and I chose to eat there. My usual waitress Madeleine wasn't there, and we had a waiter who seemed to be new. I asked for my usual order, and the waiter came back and said the chef couldn't accommodate my request. The waiter was very nervous about it. It felt like the chef was setting the waiter up for failure as a form of hazing, but that's just my feeling. I questioned the waiter, asking for more information about why they couldn't fulfill an order I've been making every time I've gone in over the last six years, but he didn't have an answer, which I don't blame him for. My brother and I decided to leave, and one waitress came out and tried to get us to come back in and said she'd make it right, but my brother had already left, and I was already over it. I was fine with it and would have gone back in a few weeks, but then I received a phone call this afternoon from one of the owners, Santino, who basically told me that if I couldn't order from the menu, I shouldn't go back. He was incredibly rude, abusive, and unprofessional, and he made the situation worse than it needed to be. If this had been the first time I had ordered off menu, and they couldn't do it, it would have been no big deal in the first place. But I have been ordering this same meal every single time I've gone in for 6+ years. If you don't want to or can't accommodate special requests, make that clear on the menu. But don't make a loyal customer feel like crap for doing something that has never been a problem before. I will now never go back to this restaurant; they've lost a lifelong customer who has raved about this restaurant to everyone she knows.

We were excited to try it, but the management and service were completely unacceptable. We added our name to the waitlist and were told it would be about a 45-minute wait. After receiving a text notification that our table was ready, we approached the hostess stand expecting to be seated. Instead, we were told the manager had given our table away to a party that joined the waitlist after us. While standing there, we watched another party of our size get seated at a separate, unreserved table. The manager and a kitchen staff member were standing by that table just chit-chatting with them. When we asked why people lower on the waitlist were being seated before us, we were told we would have to wait while they continued seating others. They told us it would be another 30 minutes, and we even received a new text notification that basically reset our spot on the waitlist. Rather than making an effort to correct the situation or accommodate us, the hostess simply said there was nothing she could do because the manager had seated those tables. What should have been a nice family meal turned into an incredibly frustrating situation where we felt completely disregarded. We never even got to see a menu, so I cannot rate the food. I have never encountered this level of poor treatment at a restaurant. If given the option to rate this restaurant a 0, I would. I will never go back.
