Review includes two recent experiences. First time dining with one other person and Avalon was a phenomenal server. She takes pride in her job and the history of the home and the couple she works for. That night I had the mushroom soup of the day (tarragon flavor and creamy without cream!) and the Argentinian ribeye and substituted risotto. Everything was INCREDIBLE. I will say- the one thing I would have preferred is a more spicy/ acidic chimichurri sauce over the steak instead of the sweet take. However, the server did a great job calling out that difference prior to ordering- just a personal preference. Second visit was tonight and for a private dinner. Didn't catch the server's name but he was great as well. Sadly the red snapper special sold out right as we were placing orders, but the salmon with a caper & anchovy gremolata and angel hair pasta with beurre blanc was spot on. Also had the crawfish bisque and it had a perfect kick to it and full crawfish tails that were a wonderful surprise. The house has so much character and they truly make you feel well cared for. Both dismissive and pretentious!!! My suggestion is that you save your patronage for those whom appreciate it. I pushed through and drove an extra (2) hours on top of the (15) I had already driven to dine at this establishment. So Shreveport redeemed itself for me with this place. When I say I highly recommend , I highly recommend It is rich is history and charm. The staff is knowledgeable. The owners are a couple and he is the chef and his wife makes rounds to the table and is so welcoming. Rolls good 10/10 Character 10/10 Boa bun 6/10 the meat was good but I didn't care for the veggies and bread Ceasar salad 8/10 Each item is served by course Sorbet to cleanse the pallet 10/10 Red snapper in brown butter lemon sauce topped with lump crab meat 100/10 This red snapper was the best I have had they were not stingy with the crab meat. It was originally served with just butter noodles but I asked for Parmesan noodles and the chef delivered The bread pudding came highly recommend but it wasn't for me. It's been 4 months and I am still dreaming of The Mabry House. This restaurant is worth the entire experience. MAKE RESERVATIONS IN ADVANCED! The ambiance is absolutely marvelous. You walk into a beautiful home and the dining area is very intimate. You might find yourself talking to your table neighbors who happen to be regulars from the town over and come here every year for their anniversary with amazing recommendations of what to order. And if that is the case - you will probably be in love with the restaurant already. Service from the hostess to waitress to chef coming out is amazing as well. The menu changes frequently. I ordered the lamb. I have never tasted lamb this wonderfully cooked in my entire lamb eating experience. The lamb is so incredibly tender and the flavor just melts in your mouth. If you've ever had lamb, you might know it is an acquired taste. I've had a lot of bad lamb in my life. This was THE BEST I have ever enjoyed. The glaze that the lamb lays on is so delicious. The best thing to say about the Mabry House is Avalon. She was our server and hands down one of the best (anywhere) we've ever had. The food was good. Our party of four were more than happy. There was a couple of things that weren't outstanding. First, the Caesar salad was overdressed and resulted in limp lettuce which was disappointing but still eatable. The tomato soup was quite tasty but barely there. I don't know when I've been served a smaller portion, definitely not in line with price. The filet was the winner of the table. While a bit fatty, the seasoning and sauce was divine. Thoroughly enjoyed dessert... blueberry -lemon cake, but again, an absolutely tiny slice. Does this place need another 5-Star review? No. But here goes. This place made me disappointed at all the "top restaurants " in Dallas. Mabry House reminded me what food prepared with excellence and skill, as well as traditional fine service, really is. I have to be honest. I have had good experiences here. Tonight was not a great experience. I was a guest and did not pay for my meal so take that in the consideration. I ordered the tile fish and grilled shrimp combo. The tile fish was acceptable and tasty however, my wife got the red snapper and it was so much more flavorful. The three shrimp that came with my tilefish were overcooked and over seasoned and barely edible. Our service was adequate, but I did not get a refill on my water nor replacing of our bread. Everything about this place deserves 5 stars, no actually they deserve even more stars than that! The ambiance is good, there isn't much lighting in the restaurant but they have candles at every table. I dined there solo, as I travel around for work. The wait staff is so kind and checked on me often to make sure I was doing okay. They didn't make me feel weird about dining solo at all. You must call and make a reservation though. It's old fashioned, but it's the right way. At your table there's a little card with your name and reservation time on it. Another thing I found really charming was that they refer to the chef as 'Chef', like "Chef has prepared...". I haven't been to a place where they still do that. Before they bring out your entree, you will get a palate cleanser in the form of a sorbet. The waitress said that the flavor changes constantly and that Chef likes to use whatever is in season. Tonight I got to try the watermelon sorbet, which was fabulous! I asked her what other flavors Chef has done and she said lemon black pepper, black cherry cranberry, lime, lemon ginger, etc. Everything on the menu sounds amazing and they had a long list of specials Chef prepared. I chose the tuna wonton special, which is ahi tuna wrapped in wonton and flash fried (so it's still rare in the middle) with a red curry sauce. It was actually an appetizer but I ordered it as a meal so it came with jasmine rice and sautéed vegetables. That sauce was amazing. The tuna was very well prepared too! I'm very happy I ordered it. Dessert menu also sounds incredible. I wasn't in a dessert mood tonight so I didn't order anything but the waitress mentioned that Chef's wife's favorite is the key lime pie. read more

You don't see all that many 5 out of 5 restaurants. Mabry's is perfect. Everyone we interacted with was fantastic. But you go to restaurants for the food. Chef Steve knows food. Every bite was perfect. Steak Diane and red snapper with crab were unbelievable. The crawfish cheesecake appetizer was delicious. The tomato gouda soup was just as good. But the white and dark chocolate dessert was magic. It was like Steve has figured out how to remove the physical part of sugar, leaving only sweetness. It was lick-the-plate-clean-while-your-Mother-yells-at-you-in-disgust good. Our server, Joey knew his stuff and was incredibly personable. Everything here was amazing! From solid wine selections to interesting cuisines, it's the best place in town to dine. The reservations were a bit difficult to make due to only being open Wed-Sat. My husband planned a surprise weekend away from the kids and he knows how much I love cozy romantic restaraunts and historic settings are my favorite! Our visit was fantastic. Our waiter Daniel described every dish without missing a beat and was so attentive, as was the rest of the Mabry staff. The wine was delicious and the food was incredible. I'm very disappointed to be writing this review. Today was our second time trying to make a reservation for the Mabry House. We were turned away because our two year old is not welcome. This is a first for me. They said we were only welcome to dine if we did not bring our daughter, because he was "not comfortable" with a child that young in the restaurant around other diners. We are a military family and unfortunately do not have anyone here to watch our child. I understand that some kids are very rambunctious, but our daughter is SO well behaved and so sweet. This restaurant looks so beautiful, and I'm disappointed that we will not be able to enjoy it. I understand wanting to preserve your ambiance, but I feel a bit discriminated against. Shreveport is fortunate to have a place like The Mabry House. My wife and I had dinner there last Friday night(7/7/23) , and 1 week later we're still talking about how incredible our meal was! I had the salad special......warm mozzarella wrapped in lettuce on a bed of greens and it was absolutely amazing. For entrees we had the crab cakes and the creole redfish/shrimp special. I wish I could cook my redfish even half that well. Even the vegetable sides are amazing, I have no idea how chef does it. This is definitely our new place when we want a special meal. It's not cheap......we can't afford to go every wkn, but for a meal of that caliber it's worth every cent! read more

Mandy House is outstanding! We went there with no idea of what may be on the menu and hoping the reviews we had read were right - they were! It was a Tuesday and even though we had a reservation I think we could have walked right in and gotten a table. It's set up into four different dining areas. Two were being used for parties and there is a chefs table near the kitchen. We were put in the fourth dining area (there may be more?) The service was fantastic. The server new all the specials by heart and gave us some great suggestions and insight on the food. Speaking of food... so good! The apps, main and dessert were amazing. Make sure you make reservations - they only way you can is the "old fashioned" way but it is well worth it! I came here on a Business trip with some coworkers and we decided to split all the appetizers and desserts and get our own entrees. Everything was delicious, but I really enjoyed the steak encrusted in blue cheese and horseradish. The waiters warned us of the crust but I was ready for it. The best way to judge a steak is eating it the next day - ha! The steak was just as delicious for breakfast as it was for dinner!
