The entire was great, the wine was great, but the dessert didn't match the rest of the food. I had scallopini al marsala with roasted potatoes and green beans, which was wonderful. I chose the one red wine from Italy, Chianti, and then the crème brûlée. The crème brûlée was watery but still tasted good it was just a little off putting because of the watery texture. The server was a nice young man but very young ( high schooler and inexperienced) probably too inexperienced to work the bar alone. Over all I would come back. Everything we got here was delicious! Perfect for a date night when we want something fancier than usual. We shared the Pagello Albert and it was exquisite (even got me using fancy words lol)! Very overpriced food, my family got 4 different meals and there was something wrong with all 4. Service was good though.

It wasn't a bad experience, the place is nice. We had a nice table in a side room. The room was kind of narrow so with multiple parties it got very loud. The food was good, but it didn't blow me away for the price. The wait staff was nice and well versed. They never offered a wine or alcohol list, so we didn't have anything from the bar. Overall, I'm glad we tried it, but it won't go into our usual rotation. read more

This might be the best ambiance I've seen in Shreveport so far for a restaurant. Dark, quiet, decorated nicely and good music! Even better than that, the food was REALLY good. I can see why this place has been around for 40 years. Be sure to save room for dessert. Great selections! I went with a party of 6 and we all ordered a dessert to try. Tiramisu and Italian cake were the highlights. Salmon entree, spinach pasta with prosciutto and veal were all excellent. I also really enjoyed the eggplant appetizer! I'll be back soon! read more

Savanna was an amazing waitress and made sure that I had the best vegan meal. I got the pasta primavera without the chicken, vegetable stock instead of chicken stock, and a side of tomato sauce. The head chef even came out and told me he had been vegan for 7 years and knew exactly what to make me! For dessert they don't have any vegan options but the chef came out again to give me some special vegan chocolate! Atmosphere was great. We went on a Saturday around 6:45. We ordered the calamari for an app and it was good. My pasta was amazing. I ordered the Tagliolini. They were out of prosciutto, but offered to sub my choice of meat no charge. My husband got the veal Marsala, however, and it was very unimpressive. The sauce had no body or flavor and the meat looked as if it was boiled. If we go back we will not be ordering any of the veal dishes, rather will stick with pasta. read more

I hesitated to share my own experience at Chianti but seeing a friend post this weeks ago and have the Facebook Inbox I got from the manager yesterday, I decided to share! I have been a fan of Chianti for over 20 years! It has been my go to restaurant for every special occasion that I can think of for the past 2 decades! The food has always been impeccable and the service to match! On Dec 17, a group of 6 of us went to dinner at Chianti. It took forever to get drinks and food ordered, but the waiter was nice and he seemed as put out by the experience as we did! When I went to order, I asked for my pasta to have a white wine butter sauce instead of red sauce (which I've done for 20 Years) and the waiter proceeded to tell me that I couldn't get it like that bc there was new management and they wouldn't budge on any changes to the food. I asked to speak with the manager and if you know me, you know that I am not rude, unkind or demanding! The manager came to our table and already was put out that he was asked to come over. I asked if he could change the sauce out (it's an incredibly Simple dish) to which he told me it wasn't going To happen and shame on the waiters and chefs that have allowed me To do it for the past 20 years! He was very rude about it! My friend then proceeded to asked where Enrico was and rudely he says "he's not dead if that's what your asking, but he is no longer here" we ordered, it took over 90 Minutes to get out food, but we tried to remain mindful at the service being a reflection of the new management! Our food finally came out cold and at that point, we knew it was better to eat it than ask the manager to come back out. We asked for checks and after giving the waiter our cards, the manager came back about 30 minutes later with our cards making an excuse as to why it took so long! In the middle of him talking, my friend simply said, "we are tired of the excuses"...I have NEVER in any business saw what happened next! The manager started walking slowly backwards and with every step was moving his arms like a dance telling "Good night! good night" he probably Said it 8-9 Times taunting my friend! It was crazy! Fast forward, since he didn't refund us, I disputed the charge on my card and sent what happened! This is what I get from the manager yesterday!!! I honestly have never seen anything like this at any restaurant owned by the Giacalonies! My husband and I went for Brunch and it was superb! We each had a salad and my portobello mushroom salad was very refreshing and tasty. Our 2nd course was pouched eggs with a tomato basil sauce and his chicken dip in egg, the special of the day. We loved both and this was our first time dining here and we will be back. read more

I held a business meeting with 25+ people, we ended up with 9 additional people and Maria handled it with nothing but patience and a smile on her face. Chianti is Enrico Giaccalone's baby. He obviously knows what he is doing offering solid Italian cuisine at reasonable price points. The variety is somewhat limited but you will not make a bad choice with any of the standard menu items. Specials are market priced appropriately and vary with availability. Desert section is limited and canoli are off the menu. That having said this is a solid choice. The atmosphere in The Green Room is warm, this is one of our favorite local spots. Worst Welcome ever......... Made a reservation at Chianti's on Tuesday (been dining here for many years and know you need one) and they called Thursday to confirm the reservation and ask if I could change my time- which I agreed to do. Arrived Saturday night promptly at reservation time and was told in the rudest manner by the Hostess that I did not have a reservation. Then was told again in an even ruder manner that I did not have a reservation after I explained the series of events and she also added "You can not be seated"! I then asked for the owner, Enrique. He had no idea how to trouble shoot this situation...AND the couple coming in behind me didn't seem to have their reservation located either. Never ONCE was an apology offered, never once did they assume I was right and they were wrong. The disrespect and lack of professionalism was shocking and extremely disappointing. Have had many meals here and celebrated many family milestones - no more. Will not go back. Was graciously welcomed by an establishment down the street with a last minute table and had a fabulous meal and superb service. Guess I'll head back there next night out and leave the chaos at Chianti's to all who can brave the rudest hostess in town and an owner that should focus on his establishment's customer service a whole lot more. read more

This is my favorite Italian restaurant in the city! The environment here is great for you & a special person or a double date. I've been here for numerous special occasions but my most recent trip was just a night out. I usually get the linguine pescatore but I got the special last night that was a crawfish veal with potatoes and vegetables. Both are great dishes. The appetizers don't disappoint either. I've had the scallops, calamari, and mozzarella. I think I'm just going to work my way across the entire menu. Also had a dirty martini (my first) which I'll have to compare elsewhere but I'm confident it'll prevail at the top. Cost perspective: An app, two alcoholic drinks, 2 entrees, and desert...$95 + tip. Terribly slow service/practically ignored by our server combined with mediocre food served cold. It'll be a while before we go back

The threat of a hurricane inspired us to head to Shreveport from New Orleans. Thankfully, Hurricane Nate was mostly a dud. We stayed in downtown Shreveport at the Hilton Hotel. Shreveport has had its struggles over the years but there are folks who are beginning to make a difference in the downtown. PLEASE, don't tear down any more buildings! Ya'll have some great architecture that needs to be saved. Finding food, especially at night downtown, is not so easy though things are improving. We are the type who prefer to dine, not just eat. So we ended up looking farther afield for a good restaurant. We found one in Chianti, on Line Avenue, South of downtown in an area with several other interesting restaurants. It doesn't take that long to get there. Our first trip (yes, we went back) was on Saturday night. The restaurant was busy and the kitchen a little slow. The restaurant is divided into three sections, one of which had a bar and small musical group, voice, piano and string bass. I usually don't need "entertainment" while I dine but this group was quite good with a low key, bluesy sort of style that fit right in to the atmosphere. People were enjoying the music and each others' company without all the yelling that seems to be a part of so many restaurants these days. The waiter was attentive, the wine list good and affordable, white table cloths and napkins. My partner's house salad got good reviews except that he should have asked for the dressing on the side. I had the gazpacho. I don't know why I ordered it. I don't usually like gazpacho since I don't like the "salsa like" consistency it often seems to have. It must have been a cosmic message. The soup was terrific. I wanted to lick the bowl but one doesn't do that in a nice place like this: Good tomato flavor, but more refined and creamy than most gazpachos, with a plate of egg, ham and green pepper to add to the soup to your own taste. We each ordered Veal Marsala. It was excellent: pounded thin, tender, with a fine mushroom sauce that was just the right amount of sweet without being over the top. The chef spent some time on the accompanying vegetables and potatoes. They were not just an afterthought. We went back two nights later: Yes, we did. We had a different waiter who was equally attentive without being intrusive and clearly knew what he was doing. We both had gazpacho (on my recommendation) and we both had "Castolette D'Angelo al Miele, Lamb Chops. They were cooked exactly as ordered, medium rare, with a superb sauce, tender and delicious. The risotto, though appearing rather plain, had a great taste that went well with the sauce and the green beans were cooked just right: Not hard and "squeaky," but not over-cooked, either. Stay away from the pretentious casino steak places and try a restaurant where the chef clearly knows how to cook and understands the difference between eating and dining. read more

In town one night for business and found Chianti on Yelp. Exceeded expectations- white table cloth dining, excellent service, almost felt like a step back in time. We had the eggplant appetizer- which, as another reviewer noted, was not as expected but delicious! I will try to describe (sorry, no photo) a thin, lengthwise slice of eggplant wrapped around a cheese (ricotta?) filling, plated with two sauces. Very tasty! House Chianti wine also very good- smooth- I regret not asking the label. Plenty of warm bread and butter on the table. For entrees, I had lamb chops, cooked medium, and my companion had the farfalle with shrimp. We enjoyed both and didn't leave a bite. Sides for the lamb chops were: the best green beans I have ever tasted! Texture was perfect crispness with a light glaze, and... somewhat disappointing risotto, white was more like a lightly seasoned rice formed on a dome. (I expected a creamier texture with more of a Parmesan hint, but I'm not Italian, so what do I know? It wasn't bad, but I would call it bland. Up to this point everything seemed so authentic that I had high hopes for the risotto.). As for location, it was easy to find on a main road, and the crowded parking lot was a positive sign. While finishing dinner towards close of the restaurant. The party and I overheard a loud obnoxious man yell over the restaurant speaking to his friend, who turned out to be the owners, about how he did not see a problem with the racial issues black Americans are experiencing. He proceeds to say that the hanging of a nuse in the garage of a black nascar driver is nothing more than funny, and even used the N word more than once. This man was confronted by our party then we left. I don't blame the restaurant for having open doors with no way of knowing who people really are, but I do blame the owner of the establishment who sat with this man and laughed along side of him. read more

Generous pour on single malt scotch! Yay! We sat at the bar while waiting for our table and the bartender was very nice. Noticed that I didn't really touch my wine he asked me whether I liked it - and I didn't. So, he offered to switch to another one and recommended one that he usually drinks, which is house pinot noir. I usually get their pasta dish and most of the time, it's excellent but last time it was a bit overcooked. Their signature veal dishes are tad bit sweet for my taste but has good flavor. Ever since Giuseppe went downhill, we go to this place whenever i have Italian cravings. Can't compare to some of the best hole-in-the-wall Italian restaurants in NJ, but it is one of my favorite Italian restaurants in Shreveport. So, maybe 3.5 star. read more

I like going next door to Vintage for their very reasonable wine flights. Vintage also serves the same menu in a more casual, but swanky environment. Dark with TVs and you can order cigars to smoke in there, so if you don't like having smoke around during dinner then I'd suggest having dinner at the restaurant and having wine/drinks and dessert at Vintage. read more

The most romantic fine dining in Shreveport. Lovely atmosphere, fabulous service, best drinks with decent pricing. Our favorite restaurant. We have there for years and we love the place. And we get something different every time. The martini I had yesterday had to be the best one I have ever had and served with blue cheese olives that I requested. Nice and cold and just delicious. We always ask for the night menu and the lunch menu, we go at lunch, and then we can choose from either one. They do not have the roasted vegetables during the day (doggone), but I ask for pasta marinara instead and am happy with that. I wish they would stay open through the day rather than closing for 3 hours in the afternoon. We surely would go more often because we usually eat out after taking care of some business or going to an appointment or doing some shopping. Possibly they could consider closing on a monday and tuesday, which are slow and staying open straight through the rest of the week. And if they would add the roasted vegejtables during the day we would give them a sixth star. Really, Chiant is just one of the last real restaraurants with fine dining and a romantic atmosphere in Shreveport. Hope they are here for many years to come. read more

THE HOSTESS WAS rude and horrible. It was Valentine's day and she had us wait nearly an hour for 7 PM reservation. Other people arrived after we did and only waited 5-10 minutes. When we inquired, she said we had to wait for our table to leave. Once we were seated, we noticed that there was about 5 empty, set and clean tables adjacent to ours. It was Valentine's day and we knew we weren't likely to get in to any other place. We come here all the time to hear live jazz and spend a lot of $$$. Could not believe how she treated us. She should be fired!!! I have never heard of such! A restaurant full of empty tables and she made us wait nearly an hour. Just terrible!!!
