I have been curious about Monk's after it opened. A co-worker was celebrating her birthday and chose this restaurant. We were the first customers in the restaurant. It was incredibly hot and we had to use the menus to fan ourselves- quite uncomfortable. There were five of us and we all opted for different choices from the menu. I chose the veg hot and sour soup with the shrimp chili garlic Hakka noodles. Those of us who picked the soup were served first, along with those who ordered French fries. The soup was incredibly salty but also had a nice spicy kick. One coworker hated it and the other, who ordered the veg Manchurian had one sip and didn't return. It was odd how food was delivered. It was one at a time, with approximately at least 10 minutes between delivery. It felt uncomfortable to eat when others were still waiting for their orders, but we were on a tight schedule. I ordered the Hakka noodles with shrimp, which was surprisingly tasty. It was a large bowl and I had to take the rest home. Another odd thing was that warm bottled water was served instead of iced water (I didn't spot an ice machine nor fountain drink in the restaurant.) The waitress never checked on us, so she had no idea how we liked our food. Will I return? Most likely not. Between the super warm temperature of the restaurant and lack of customer service, I will opt for another fusion eatery. Bummer! read more

I wish it had a little more sweetness but that is personal preference. it is on the spicier side, so be cautious even when choosing "mild". there is also a gratuity added for large parties (18%). My gf and I love to check out new spots in the neighborhood so we stopped by for a late lunch on the way home. The place is very cute with dim lighting and a colorful mural covering the wall. Upon entering there was only one family sitting and no one waiting. There were several staff members either sitting, standing or cleaning. Yet we weren't greeted which I found odd. We had to walk to the counter before someone asked if we wanted to dine in. You pick your own table so we chose a booth and waited a good 10 mins before our waitress came to take our order. Mind you, we were the only ones dining. When she came, she asked if we were ready to order and we were because we had plenty of time to review the menu at this point. Our food arrived about 15 mins later and I must say it was amazing. The lollipop chicken wings weren seasoned and fried to perfection. The Manchurian fried rice with egg was so flavorful. The goat masala was top tier and so was the garlic naan. There was enough to take home and we absolutely wanted to take the rest home. Since no one came back to ask if we needed anything or to check on us throughout the meal, we had to flag down a lady to ask for togo containers and the check. She brought it over promptly as well as the check and then we were left. I would definitely give the food here 5 stars but the service leaves a bit to be desired. I stopped by here with my colleagues on a weekday. We were promptly seated. Ordering took time as we were 5/6 of us and took time to decide. Service : one of our colleague got his food so late, most of us were done eating. I ordered burnt Garlic fried rice, it only has rice. It was missing Burnt Garlic or fried flavors. The Ambiance is very nice and warm. The service was ok we ended up asking for refund because we ordered street style fried rice, sweet corn soup, paneer momos, and paneer chili garlic. The sweet corn soup was ok a bit bland but not too bad. The momos were good not fresh but the taste had set in which was really nice. The fried rice was not fried rice it was buryani which taste nothing like Indo Chinese food. For a place that has Indian Chinese in the name it was disappointing. The paneer chili when asked the waiter off Indo-Chinese she said this is our best and when it came out it tasted like very bland paneer butter masala. When we asked the waitress if this is indo-Chinese she said no this is north Indian Chinese. No clue what that even means. After the payment went through, we were told that we could pay in cash and get a discount and that they would reverse the transaction. Horrific Experience at Monk, Irving. Served Non-veg Food for a pure Vegetarian person. ---------------------------------------------------------------- A couple of my office colleagues and I visited Monks last week and ordered Butter Paneer Curry. However, they mistakenly served us Butter Chicken. As a strict vegetarian, I was horrified to realize I had consumed it. When we brought this to the server's attention, they didn't even apologize. We requested to speak with the owner, but they initially refused to come and talk to us. After multiple requests and a 40-minute wait, the owner finally appeared, showing complete disregard for the situation. Overall, it was a terrible experience. The size of the portions are small for their entrees. For $14 and change, we got 6 balls of veg manchurian in its sauce. A little bit of a waste of money when we can go else where and get larger portions for the same price. This should improve. This place has great potential if the staffing was better. We've ordered food to go several times and we had to wait forever to get our food. We've gotten the family pack noodles to go and the first few times it was great. Very bland food and very rude service. I came in about 45 minutes before close for a takeout order and the man that took my order was very upset and told me multiple times that they were about to close "but it's fine." When we walked in to have dinner with some friends and realized we were the only non south Asian looking people in the whole restaurant, we knew that the food was going to slap and the service was going to be mid (as for most authentic Asian places). And it was true! We found a booth ourselves and the server took our order fairly quickly. But they forgot my mango lassi order so we had to reorder that. There were huge groups coming into eat so the ambiance felt very family friendly and appropriately noisy. The butter chicken was absolutely amazing and naan was the right combo of soft / crispy. Portions were generous. I've never had fried momos before but they were so good, plus the sauce. We ended up paying at the counter since wait staff didn't seem like they were coming around again. Ambiance was well invested in and i think thats where the buck stopped. Very less chicken in noodles and fried rice. Too much oil in both. And neither had any flavor. There are similar reviews to this so doesnt look like the owner/mgmt is paying any attention to these feedbacks. An okay Indian Chinese fusion small restaurant. Ambient is nice, clean. Service can be improved.. Fried rice is not what you'd get in typical Chinese or Asian restaurants; as others have mentioned here (it looks more like veggie rice medley) - a healthier kind, I guess. The taste is below average at best but the worst part is too much oil and there are just 4-5 pieces of chicken in fried rice and some of those are just fried floor pieces. Seeing the review in Dallas Morning News inspired to try this place for Indo-Chinese food. Food was good but choices are very limited in this category. Also they ran out cleaned service utensils, all the food was served onetime utensils. Not sure what inspired them to use cloth chairs - it's very hard to clean those. The service was a little slow and the flavorful but the meat on my goat curry was just straight bones. A lot of the pieces of meat they gave me didn't even have meat it was literally just bones they threw in there. And if there was meat it was the tiniest bit of meat. It seemed like they just threw the worst pieces in my Order because it was to go and and they were just trying to get rid of it since it was to go and I wasn't dining in and I wouldn't be inside eating it to complain about it to them. We have ordered takeaways consecutively two days both vegetarian and non vegetarian options. No issues with non vegetarian ones but both days vegetarian noodles/fried rice came plain with just bell peppers & carrots only whereas we ordered veg Manchurian/paneer varieties. read more
