No rsvp, walk in only. I was pleased in today's visit. I checked in without my whole party, the front check I lady said wait was 25 mins. I filled out my contact info for covid and was given a vibrating device to hold on to while we waited. It seems really busy, seemed like a lot of visitors from the mainland. Not a bad wait for a weekend. Got seated near the outdoor area. The one thing I love about going here is the live music! I love live music. Anyway, got seated and was greeted by our hostess. We ordered the bulgogi tacos, Hamakua mushroom pizza, and truffle fries. Super good. I really like mushrooms so the pizza was good. Somewhat enough for two people. We had a wonderful experience here! Mai Tai - delicious! Probably one of the best Mai Tai's I've ever had. Shrimp Potstickers - so flavorful! This was a special that used to be on the menu, but currently isn't listed. Baby Romaine salad - I love a good Caesar! It was heavy on the dressing, but I'm a lover of condiments. Chicken Wings - the flavor was outstanding! If you're sensitive to heat beware. The Tzatziki dipping sauce was perfect with it. Pork & Pineapple Pizza - I would have liked a little more pork on it, but it was delicious as well. We thoroughly enjoyed everything and would go back. It was busy and with the pandemic, they were only accommodating half capacity. Thankfully we had reservations! We sat upstairs where it looked more relaxed and laid back. Our server was amazing and really took care of us. I knew it was gonna be expensive, because... Koolina, but I thought the food would be more than just "good." I was able to try the truffle fries, which were crispy and tasty, but I thought it lacked the truffle flavor. It had more Parmesan and garlic flavors. But still good. Most of the dishes were overpriced, but I wanted to chance the "saimin." I'm so glad I ordered it! The flavors were good and different at the same time. There were big chunks of meat, and the cilantro and nuts made it reminiscent of an oxtail soup. My cousin and husband got burgers, and they were disappointed on the portion and taste. The burgers were not even complimented by a salad or fries. The cheesecake was the highlight of our visit! So airy, light, and creamy! I hate to say it but it is a tourist spot, it really is. Love the name... really like the restaurant. After an enjoyable day of swimming at nearby Ko olina we'd go here for happy hour cocktails and occasionally a bite to eat. They're part of the Merriman's chain- so you can take advantage by getting their excellent mai tai (reduced price during happy hour). The food isn't bad either. We've had the saimin and the fish and chips. Very, very tasty food- exactly what you'd want after a day at the beach. Besides they weren't that crunchy. The apps were very minute in quantity. For the price they charge it's not worth it. The fish and fries were dry and overpriced. Let me know if you think otherwise. Excellent food in a really comfortable, friendly setting. The drinks and food are really amazing and an excellent alternative to Mickey shaped food across the street. The saimin is so delicious and highly recommended. If possible, a table on the open second floor puts you with the treetops and nice views of the lush greenery and is my preference. i was ready to hit post on a 1* review for a terrible takeout experience -- but then our friends asked us if we wanted to try it again in person a couple nights later, and so as you can probably tell by the 5* review we said yes, and ended up having one of the best dinners of our entire trip here first, the ugly: we ordered the saimin to go and while the pork they offered was pretty good, the broth tasted like soy sauce + salt water. we kept trying to dilute it with more and more water but it just couldn't be saved + unfortunately has us never wanting to order this dish anywhere ever again and then, the great: sat down to the best live music we heard all week (island renditions of r&b classics) and best mai tai in oahu, which was talked about by locals far and wide across the island. i won't spoil anything other than to say we agree, wholeheartedly so do yourself a favor and order one or two as soon as you arrive otherwise everything we ordered this time was solid; the poke tacos are small but excellent, the fish and chips were good + repeatable, especially for the kids and the proletariat pizza was alright, though maybe i don't really like olives (however they do have chili oil if you ask for it, though it's not very strong) on timing: when i got the to go order on friday at about 515pm, the wait was about 45mins for three, on sunday, it was no wait at all around the same time for a party of seven anyway, come here for the drinks but stay for the entertainment -- tons of fun, especially with great company, and a must repeat for sure oh, and i almost forgot: thank you to curtis for being the best server we met this trip. you were easy going + genuinely kind and we appreciated you very, very much! it was a night that will not be easily forgotten :) read more

Our favorite drink was No Ka Oi which is ocean vodka, Thai basil, lime, honey-lilikoi (passionfruit) purée. It was tart and just the right amount of sweetness. Note: I originally ordered a Mind Your Pisco but it was slightly too strong and I did not taste the yuzu which I was initially intrigued by. Overall, the venue is pretty spacious with 2 floors which is plenty of room to social distance. Amber was AWESOME. This was my first time going here and Amber was so friendly and helpful! She suggested some really delicious options! First off: the mai tai is delicious. I like mai tais so I may be biased, but the lilikoi cream on top just makes it amazing. We started with the baba ganoush with veg crudite. So light and refreshing!!! I had the baby kale salad and Amber recommended adding goat cheese to it. Without, it was good. With, it was great! I already said I'm going to marry this salad...that's how good it was. My main course was the fish and chips. I really like that the batter was so light (fish today was mahi) also, they make their own ketchup for the fries!!!! The wife and I were looking for a new place to try and remembered that we had a Frommer's guide so we thought we'd look to see what they recommended for in our area (Frommer's was great for our Italy trip!). Only two restaurants are listed for the leeward side, Monkeypod Kitchen being one of them. They recommended the saimin so that's what I got and the wife got the fish tacos. We had garlic truffle fries for our appetizer and strawberry cake for dessert. The food was delicious and dessert amazing. We left full and happy. Definitely worth a try. Reasonably priced for the quality of food and location. Parking can be an issue as they share parking with the shops there. The fish sandwich is super fishy and made the bun soggy and smelled terrible. Another night got the hamburger and that was better but still too expensive for such a basic plain burger. My best friend's mom's birthday was coming up and I wanted to take her somewhere special for lunch. The only problem was, she has celiac disease (so no gluten allowed) and it was harder than I thought to find a place that served gluten free foods. I called Monkeypod Kitchen and made my reservation. This was the perfect place for a gluten free lunch. We started out with chicken wings and garlic truffle oil fries. Mmmm! These were excellent. The chicken had no breading (gluten) and were roasted in spices that gave them a delicious flavor. The fries were crispy, tasty with truffle oil and a wonderful addition to our meal. For our mains, I had a mahi mahi burger and had them replace the bun with lettuce. My dining companion had mahi mahi tacos in gluten free tortillas. The mahi mahi was cooked perfectly, still moist with a good texture. This is my favorite fish and we were not disappointed. My friend told me it had been a long time since she was able to eat such delicious gluten free food. For dessert, we had gluten free coffee gelato.
