One of my favorite foods is a loaded sub sandwich. And after finding monkey's sub on yelp with such high marks I just had to give it a try. Being only a mile away from my house I was thinking it could be my go to place when I craved a sub. To say I was disappointed was putting it nicely. The bread was good but the overall sandwich wasn't anything special. The only bread options were white or wheat which is disappointing but luckily the white was good as I mentioned before. This place served a concert at a park in Lake Oswego. I ordered my food online a month or so before the concert, which was for pulled pork, grilled chicken thighs, grilled corn, cornbread, salad and baked beans. At the concert I was given a cheap version of Monkey Sub's "Barrel of Monkey's". It only had 3 of the meats listed on their menu and only one of the cheeses. It seems that this was the main chosen meal for everyone unless you wanted a vegan or gluten free sandwich. Not sure if this is due to poor planning of whoever organized it or Monkey Subs. One of my all time favorite subs, EVER! My favorite is the TBA on wheat, old school. Absolutely delicious, EVERY single time! Tonight on 01/16/2020 around 6pm I came in to get subs for dinner and both of the women who were working had EXCELLENT customer service! Very personable and friendly, to not only me but other customers who had walked in after me. I want to say that the customer who came in after me carried a very negative energy and was kind of rude to the girls working. I applaud them for handling the situation with dignity and respect! It is a little awkward when you first walk in because no menu is posted. They have individual menus by the counter where you order. The bread was fantastic! They don't skimp on the meat and it's pretty tasty, too! The people who work there are super nice and seem to know almost everybody who walks in the door. Found this hidden gem thanks to great reviews on Yelp. Well deserved great reviews, I might add. Got the half Turkey, Bacon and Avocado and it was outstanding. The half was a perfect size for me. I agree the making of a great sandwich starts with great bread. They serve up fresh french bread with a nice outer crust and a soft and chewy inside. The turkey was high quality and shaved thin fresh for my sandwich (love that). Avocado was fresh, bacon was crispy, and the provolone was also freshly sliced thin. Bottom line: don't waste your money at the chain sub shops for an inferior sandwich for the same price, if not more money! Poor customer service. Put us on hold for 10 Minutes trying to order our sandwiches. My husband showed up before I could even place the order and the employees shrugged their shoulders and said they got busy. They hung up on me rather than actually getting on the phone and addressing my needs. This place used to be good but the new employees aren't cutting it. I freakin love this place. The workers are always super nice, and are just flat out people that really care. Awesome environment and lets get real...best sub shop out here. On my most recent visit...I was walking my brother's Great Dane, that I am watching, and after picking up my sandwich and walking home with dog leash and massive dog in one hand, and holding my sandwich I just picked up in the other. I reach to push the crosswalk button and my sub slid right out the bag and fell on the ground. Most the sub stayed on the paper as it lay open on the sidewalk right in front of me. So, I quickly grabbed it, and salvaged as much as I could by putting it back in the bag. Before I could even be mad, I hear someone yell "I've got you covered, go back to monkey's" as the car drove around the corner I was standing at. I am not one to ever send food back, or complain. Especially when it's my own fault and I dropped my food. So I started walking home, and not even two minutes later I get a phone call. I answer the phone and hear "is this Brian? Did you just drop your sandwich? I got a call from someone who saw you drop your Sandwich, and we have another one here for you for free." I insisted that they did not need to do that, as I laughed at the situation with a smile on my face. I knew I recognize that voice as I was sitting there staring at my open sandwich on the ground. It was Vic (the owner), a just flat awesome person who is always in such a good mood. I needed to share this. These people are great, and the food is amazing. A good sandwich shop is invaluable. A brief early lunch stop on our way to ikea did not disappoint. The inside of this sub shop is pretty tiny, carryout only. The menu is simple but not lacking in options and customization. The employee that took our order was really helpful and patient with us as we chose our food. Not that subs really take a long time to make, but I was surprised at how efficient the two employees were, especially considering we were not their only guests. The subs themselves were delicious. I got a customized veggie sub and everything tasted really fresh and yummy. The bread was legit amazing. It was less soft than I am used too which worked well because it didn't get soggy. This was my first visit to Monkey's and I have to say that the sandwich was impressive. I had the Monkey Wrench which is their signature $10 sandwich. Not inexpensive but worth the money. They really pile on the meat and the foot long is a very filling meal. It's a tiny, take out place in the BiMart mall at 185th and Farmington. Next to Baskin Robbins. If you like authentic NYC subs you're probably going to like this place. They do have other style sandwiches which sounded tempting but I'll probably stick with the Italian sub. I worked for this place for a couple months and within those few months I saw nothing but chaos. The management is unbelievably unprofessional and have no clue how to run a business. I consistently got blamed for things that I had no part of and felt unsupported throughout my time there. When I made the decision to quit I texted the owner because I felt more comfortable that way and he read my message and did not reply. The next day I got to see him in person and after telling him how I felt he said "I'm sorry things didn't work out the way you wanted them to." Have you ever eaten food that tastes so good, you're a little angry about it? I'm kind of angry about the sandwiches here. I bought this sandwich to go sit my socially distanced self in the middle of nowhere and have a lonely picnic. The bread held up and was not just a vehicle but an actual factor in the sandwich flavor game. I got the sandwich old school and it was ready in minutes. A few wasps came to bother me (they must have known it was quality) and I legit went in for one more bite before evacuating for my life. Did you know wasps can also bite? I do now. But they didn't take my sandwich. I'm safe at home again, the only threat around is the one to my sanity because I keep remembering how good it was. 10/10 I'd stand up to three (3) wasps for this sandwich. read more
