What a lovely little family owned restaurant! I had passed this place a few times and then found out that it has so much more behind the windows than you would think! Based on the facade and name, I just thought it was a cute little diner with a pastry case. It is so much more. They have an authentic Honduran menu in addition to the typical American-type menu, and there's also a small Mexican food menu as well. When I went to pick up my food the sweets and treasures in the bakery cases looked divine and decadent. I wanted to try a little bit of everything, and I love that I could order everything a la carte. I ordered one baleada from the Honduran menu, one pupusa with pork/cheese from the Honduran menu, and a chicken taco from the Mexican menu. All three were good and I ate all of it, but nothing was particularly amazing. Both the baleada and pupusa just seemed to have more tortilla/bread ratio to filling than I was expecting, but to be fair I don't know what the real authentic thing is supposed to look like. The taco was also not bad but have had better at other locations. Just because I wasn't blown away, though, doesn't mean I don't want to come back and try more stuff on the menu. I just wanted to try the more authentic foods from a family-owned place since I figured I can't get it many other places. I will definitely continue to explore the menu, though, because it looks spectacular. Obsessed with this place! I cannot go here without getting the papusas. In fact, I usually get four so I can hear them up for breakfast during the week too. The pork chop is sooooooo freaking good too and so are all the sides that come with it - plantains, rice, refried beans and cole slaw. I almost didn't even try the cole slaw or beans because they're usually not good when I order from other restaurants but my husband tried them and said how amazing they tasted so I had to try it and ended up finishing it all. We've also had their baleadas and breakfast tacos. Both are wonderfully delicious. I recommend the chorizo for the tacos. My daughter loves the croissants. The raspberry and cheese one is perfect. Decent gem in Monona. From the name, I did not know that they were a Honduran family owned place. I felt super guilty because we ordered two sandwiches, which strayed away from the traditional food and did not get any bakery items. They were delicious sandwiches though, but a little pricey for just a sandwich. We had the Pesto Bacon Sandwich and the TBA (turkey bacon avocado). They were both delicious (but that might be because you can't go wrong with fresh bread and bacon). I personally enjoyed the Pesto Bacon sandwich more and would recommend it. This is a very nice place, cozy enough to make you feel like if you are in a friend's house. First of all, the staff always says welcome and smile whenever customers enter the place and second of all, the food is homemade and yummyyy. They have two menus, Latino and American. Breakfast and lunch. They have sweets in one side of the counter, like chocolate croissants, morning buns, danishes, scones, muffins and at the other side they have a little bit more elaborated pastries like chocolate cake, tres leches, flan and some other goodies. So far, my favorites are, the Honduran traditional breakfast (two eggs, fried ripe plantain, refried beans, white cheese which I'm pretty sure it's panela, crema, avocado slices and you choose your meat, either chicken or steak. I really like the chicken, sometimes when I crave rice I would substitute it for the chicken. I loove their rice, it's a plain white rice cooked with some kind of herb but for me it's a treat since it reminds me of my house back in my country. The other one would be their TBA sandwich, turkey, bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato and aioli. I think it comes in a focaccia bread. It is better than I expected, all the flavors go so well together, the bacon vas crispy enough and the vegetables tasted fresh. I would definitely order it again. It is a little bit pricey but we don't mind because it's worth it. It is obvious they make their food with love and we appreciate that. I have been on a hunt for pupusas and I finally found them!! We stopped in an hour before close and ordered some dinner: 2 pupusas, one with pork, the other loroco and cheese (vegetarian), a baleada, and then fried plantains. Dinner for two for under $20 was pretty slick. There were not a lot of people, but it took a while for a food to come out (~20 minutes). At the very least, we knew that our food was being made fresh. When our food came out, I was just about drooling. The plantains were served with mayo and you can't really ever go wrong with fresh, fried plantains. Yum! Our waitress said that the vegetarian pupusa had cucumber added to it. Of the two, I preferred the vegetarian one and the pork was a little dry. The slaw on the side was refreshing and the sauce served with was like a mild salsa. The baleada was comforting and tasty, like a bean and avocado quesadilla with a cheese that tasted like feta maybe? Overall we had a good experience but are looking forward to trying more things and perhaps eating some baked goods next time! read more

This restaurant was a nice fine. Food was pretty good, prices were good, staff were friendly and they allow dine-in. However, the building was dated, several flies around us as we dined, the table was dirty when we first sat down (which they happily cleaned again for us) and there was a hair cooked into the cheese of my French onion soup. Overall, 3 stars braces I appreciate the staff, and taste/price of food, but the environment cleanliness could be improved, the flies and hair in my food hurt my rating for them. read more

I recently ordered delivery from this place in a frantic last-minute craving for cake. I got the daily-special tres de leches, the tuxedo cake slice, pork and cheese pupusa, and a latte. The packing was great with a tamper-proof seal to ensure food safety during these times in which we live. However, the milk from the tres de leches cake had managed to leak into the bag. The cakes were very fresh and easily double the portion size of what I was expecting. The tres de leches was sponge soaked in condensed and thickened milk with chunks of pineapple in it and topped with chocolate sprinkles. While not oozing class as it was oozing sweet goodness it epitomized the cantina experience of fresh if unassuming food. The tuxedo cake was a pleasant surprise too, with dark chocolate on top, a thick layer of fresh bavarian cream followed by layers of sponge and chocolate mousse. The pupusa was good if lacking adequate stuffing and heat (spice). It comes with a homemade sauce which is refreshing if in need of some less subtle flavor. A perfect tea-time evening snack nonetheless. Finally, the coffee was just ok, order in a pinch if you have none at home. Overall this definitely seems like a place to order from during that indecisive period between a late breakfast and an early tea or for a late brunch! I'd have to try more of the savory stuff to form a true opinion but so far so good. read more

It was so delicious. It was so delicious that I was excited about eating it so I decided to eat while in the car. Then I abruptly had to stop at a red light because it was yellow and I had not committed to speeding through even though I should have. Physics took over and caused my cake to fall off the seat of my car onto the floor of my car. Normally this wouldn't phase me, but I go to the barn a lot where there are horses, so my car is disgusting. I'm very upset about my cake. I will be back for another one. Asked about the lattes when the food arrived and I asked for some ketchup for my potatoes. We were literally almost done with our food when they delivered the lattes. Still no ketchup. Asked again and it finally arrived. As for the food - I would call it mediocre. The Mexican breakfast scramble lacked flavor. And it came with 2 pieces of bread, which seemed awkward. Great food and friendly service but the restaurant could use some sprucing up. The walls need paint and every table I could see had a wadded up napkin under one leg to keep it from wobbling. The mens room had a sink with very a low stream of water coming out of the spigot which made hand washing difficult. The walls in there need some TLC as well. This place was amazing! Breakfast was great, we had chorizo scrambles, chorizo hash, chocolate chip pancakes, donuts, and a guava cheese danish. The danish was so incredible, I wanted to buy another one for later but they were gone by the time we finished. They have a handful of booths and tables inside and four 4-person tables outside on a covered walkway. Not a great place for large groups, but perfect for 1-6 people. They do takeout, door dash, and dine in. Bakery items all look amazing and fresh and the Honduran menu is diverse, accurate descriptions of food, and everything that we ate was fantastic.
