I have been coming to this Monro Muffler since I got my first car in 1999. It is very close by,so it's within walking distance in case the repairs take too long to wait there for. I have found the employees to be very nice,honest & thorough . Their prices are not too bad for being local and working on commission. I usually always deal with Mark & Jessie. Both of them always know what they're talking about & get the job done in a very timely manner. I get cards in the mail with discounts,coupons,etc. They give good deals a lot of times. Due to all of these reasons ,keeps me going back. If there's something they can not do,they point you in the right direction of where to go. I love this location & the employees !! If i could give zero stars i would, my sister took her car to this shop and they said they couldn't inspect it because of some problems, gave a huge list of things (some don't even need to be fixed for inspection) wanted her to pay a lot of money. He then made her pay for nothing, wasted our time and money. When we were trying to leave he was reaching in my sisters car to try to grab the keys from her hands. Cursing at us and yelling. I wish I could give zero stars. This shop likes to take advantage of women who they think don't know what they're doing in a car shop. Avoid them at all costs. They're also rude when you decline the services. I had been going to a different Monro for several years but it had closed so I went to this Monro to have an oil change done. I get a call saying they need to replace my muffler (it was getting a little loud so I was expecting that in the call)... "oh and your rotors need to be replaced and honestly these windshield wipers aren't good either they need to be replaced and we can do that for you... also these tires are looking pretty old. (I had literally replaced them the year prior) I decline the services and take my car to another shop - the new shop said "yes, you need a new piece for your muffler but everything else looks good on the car. Whoever you went to was looking for a cash grab." So what Monro told me was going to me $3k+ of work ended up costing me a couple hundred dollars. This is exactly what people (especially women) are afraid of when going to an auto shop. Predatory salesmen trying to scam you. Do better. read more

I unexpectedly noticed a flat today (Saturday) at 3 pm. I called AAA and then Monro on Grand Island, which was still open. I had never been there. Nick (the manager) was nice on the phone, said he was still open and to have it towed over. He was incredibly helpful at the shop. I was worried I would need new a new tire (or pair), but he was able to patch the flat. I can't thank him enough for his friendly and excellent service. I highly recommend!! read more

I went to MONRO Muffler/BRake at 2955 Main Street Shop 051 Buffalo NY 14214 (716) 836 0500. I went to this repair shop because my car was making a loud noise. I have a written estimate of parts that my car didn't even need , unreasonable labor charges totaling over $990.00 . I took my car to another automotive shop where they advised me a need a muffler the total price I paid was $150.00 for the same job Monro Muffler/ Brake told me the job would be close to $1000.00 . If I didn't go to get a second opinion they would of ROBBED me for nearly $900. I took my sons first car to get an oil change and another inspection by mark. I've actually been going to him for years. He did a thorough inspection of my sons car He called me about an hour later and told me that it was a nice solid car. And they only thing he was worried about was the two front tires and although they didn't need to be changed out for awhile I went ahead and purchased new ones. My son is 17 so I want to be sure he is super safe on the road and the first step is making sure the car is in great working condition. Mechanic here fails NYS inspections on grounds that brake rotors are too rusty in order to sell brake jobs. When I asked to see, he old lifts the car to about hip height and arbitrarily shines his flash light behind the rotor in a place you can not see. I say "the rust is superficially" he says "I've been doing this for 30 years" (or some long time like that) "and I know." Then he tries to sell me a break job. The rotor looked fine, so while he is filling out the recite I google a PDF of the NYS inspection criteria, do a Ctrl+F for 'rotors' and guess what... You can not fail a car for rust on the brakes. I ask for him to show me the NYS criteria booklet he used, he refused to show it. A week later I take my car to a real mechanic who laughs when I tell him this story. At this reputable garage they tell me my rear break lines are getting worn and will need to fix them at some point maybe later this year. Kind of funny considering the supposed expert at Monro didn't point that out. Also this guy does not carry standard motor oil, he says "people don't buy it so I don't carry it." BS. People don't buy it because you BECAUSE you don't carry it. This man's lies know no bounds. So I had to buy the synthetic oil which is more than twice as much. This was before he failed me for the inspection, If I knew he'd do that I'd not have changed my oil there either. In conclusions, don't go here. He will try and rip you off or worse succeed at ripping you off. I actually see other reviews of people saying "he noticed my rotors were rotted." He probably runs this racket on everybody that comes in the store. Really, really, terrible place DO NOT GO HERE. I'll probably report this to the BBB. Service here is absolutely wonderful. They do not oversell you. I went in due to squeaking brakes that were replaced elsewhere just about one year ago. Instead of saying I needed new brakes, I was told that mine are operable and the squeaking is not a saftey issue. Never gets your car fixed in this body shop!!!!!!!!My friend paid a lot for the car repairs, but they replaced all her original Subaru car components with used car components. I'm pretty sure that they're going to resell her car components to someone else!!!!! Also, My friend didn't expect to pay that much for her repairs cuz she only asked for getting her tires fixed !!!! I have been a returning customer for multiple years. I've been taken all of my cars to them but this has gone too far. Today I called about getting my tire checked to see if they can patch the hole. I got a call back saying that the hole was on the side wall an couldn't be fixed and that a new tire would cost over $200 plus tax!!!!! When I showed back up at the store I asked where the hole was and the hole was where the threads are and not on the side wall at all!!!!!! I called another Monro and got told that a new tire would actually cost $140 plus $20 to put it on. I got told that he couldn't do less than $200 because "it would be taking food away from my workers' mouths." read more

Where do I begin. Well I went to Monro Muffler on Dewey Ave for a small hole in my exhaust that I needed to be fixed. The worker there with glasses that also runs the front took it upon his self to physically break my cat back pipe off my exhaust. As I let him know that that's unacceptable he proceeded to tell me that he did not break it. He also try to take advantage of me by telling me that that cat back pipe for my Toyota Corolla would be almost $400 I told that's ridiculous I can get pretty much a whole exhaust system put in my car for that price I told him please take it down off the lift I'm going to contact his Superior let him know what kind of shady stuff going on in the garage he then comes back and says I'll tell you what I'll give you my 5% discount to help out I said no thank you so please take it down. Being persistent or guilty whatever you want to think, he comes back and tried to say I can do it for 300 flat with taxes and fees. I said please just take it off the lift I don't feel comfortable letting you touch my vehicle. He wouldn't take it down said he already ordered the part After everything I brought it to another garage. Without saying anything about what happend earlier the garage asked me if I physically broke the cat pipe off, as you can tell it is a rusted pipe but it was still attached to the muffler pipe. To sum it all up claims department told me to file a claim and they would refund me for the damages by the garage. They said sorry we can't because the garage sent in pictures that it was already broken. So let me get this straight he knew to take a picture of my exhaust knowing we would be in this situation. Sound ridiculously shady to me. Please don't waste your time with these scum bags. read more

Went in to get an oil change and tire rotation around rush hour. I didn't have an appointment but they took me right away. Really quick and polite service and the waiting room was clean with an abundant selection of magazines. Another thing I liked about this place was no blaring TV and no Top 40's music playing in the background. It was quiet and peaceful. I could hear and see the mechanic working on my car. I generally know better then to get anything done at a place like Monro, but today I made that mistake. I had a 4:00PM appointment and got there right on time. When I arrived I mentioned that I checked in with Yelp and got a coupon for a $21.99 oil change and tire rotation and the gentleman looked at it and then said it was good to go so I sat down and waited. Around 30 minutes later they did the usual pitch to sell you some other services and I agreed to the windshield wipers because I definitely did need new ones. Issue #1 comes in when you turn something down and the gentleman goes from being super friendly to having no personality at all, and it was literally like a switch, It happened the second I said I didn't want to get the new air filter. My second issue is a big one to me, when my car was finished he told me that the oil change coupon did not apply for the synthetic oil change that I had gotten. Now.....why wasn't this mentioned when I showed the coupon the first time? No answer? exactly, because that's a pile of crap. So already I went from a $21 oil change to a $36 one. I don't actually care about the $15, what I care about it that it's not at all good business to tell someone something costs one thing, do the job, and then change it. I'm big on communication and this place (in typical Monro fashion) failed miserably. I will say that other then the gentleman who was working the counter the other 2 guys were nice. Overall, if you need something done, go to Delta Sonic or a non chain auto body shop, you have a less likely chance of trying to get add-ons thrown at you. read more

Great experience and I agree with other reviewers wondering why ratings were so low. I came in for an inspection and had to get my brakes changed after my car had been sitting so long during the pandemic. They were able to change my rotors and break pads right away along with other small fixes to make my car good as new! read more

Horrible customer service. Yesterday I called and scheduled an inspection on my car since it was due today and the guy said that's fine. He took my name and number and put me down for 8am. So today at 8am I go and when I walk in the man tells me that the guy who does inspections is hurt and he doesn't know when he will be back???? Ok so why did I have to get up and drive all the way here instead of this man calling me with all the information I gave him with yesterday to tell me not even to waste my time. monroe is by far the worst place I've ever taken any of my vehicles to... I had to take my car in for a camber alignment because I just changed the front struts I work out of town and need both vehicles Monroe and Mavis are the only places that do alignment. The guy at the desk asked when I could have it in I told him an hour and a half he said they would definitely be able to do it. I get it there within the hour and he tell me I called at 12 oclock. I get in my phone and show him that it hasn't even been an hour since I called and then he says ok well we will be able to. Because he knew that he was lieing... So I then get a call at five from a brant saying that they didn't get to it that they will do it first thing in the morning ex.... So Sunday morning I get a call around 10 11from the same brant telling me that there isn't a camber alignment on my car and that he's never done one on my type of car and that I'd have to leave it there till Tuesday for the lead mechanic to check it out because there is something majorly wrong with my car's front end. Mind you it's a 2010 Chevy traverse everyone knows that there is a camber alignment on these vehicles because they are all wheel drive. I said ok and got off the phone with him and made some calls found a shop next door that knew what they were doing and knew all about my car. I then call Monroe back and told them that I'm coming to get my car because the garage next door was gonna get it done and I already knew there was nothing wrong with my front end. They then told me when I picked my car up that I had to pay for the alignment still even though it wasn't properly performed the guy didn't even know what he was doing and admitted to it that he didn't know how to do the alignment on my car so then why is he working on cars if he doesn't know how to properly fix them. Any ways I was forced to pay for the alignment. I took it to Mavis next door they did the alignment and inspected the front end and there was nothing wrong with my car at all it's even on the invoice customer says inspect front end and results were nothing crazy right. So I call headquarters about a refund and my experience and she was understanding and everything I have a legit complaint I ain't trying to get nothing for free or anything I just want my 100 dollars back for the alignment that didn't get performed why should I pay kid to fix my car if the car didn't get fixed and he was trying to tell me there was something else wrong with my vehicle. She takes it to her bosses and they refuse my refund because they claim the date on there receipt is a day after the day on the Mavis recipet it was a Sunday so the Monroe invoice don't clear till Monday I have both receipts Monroe starts on a Saturday and is payed on a Sunday the Mavis is started and payed for on a Sunday two hours after I payed for it at Monroe... Unreal so I call back and email and I can never get a hold of the same lady she's always on lunch any time of the day that I call and have been told she will call me back then I spoke with a supervisor and she figured out what happened was gonna talk to someone call me back and ofcourse never called me back. And it's been over a week. So I'm taking my invoices the emails and voicemails from these great mechanics and I'm going to my lawyers office and I'm getting my money back and Monroe is paying for my lawyer and im sueing for forcing me to pay for work that was never done and whatever else he can get..... And I'm making sure that everyone knows about this experience read more

Beware of scammers!!! Brought my car here for an inspection. They spend 1 hour looking at it. While waiting I heard the front desk guy trying to up-sell someone on tires and brake pads that he didn't need. He still passed his inspection. He then called my name. He mentioned that I needed to buy new tires, new mirrors, timing belt, oil change and suspension to pass the NYS inspection. I then asked again, what is required for me to pass the inspection. He stated "timing belt and 4 sets of tires". (Assuming he charge the shit out of me for this service) Which I know it's false, because this is not my first time getting an inspection. I actually work on cars myself. Nothing was wrong with the timing belt, mirrors and tires. Oil change was done by myself a month ago. He then rang me up for the inspection, 21$. Then walked away. The other guy brought out my car and I didn't pass inspection. I would never go to this place for anything. I went to a well known establishment and guess what happened. Passed inspection with no issue and was only offered an oil change. I would leave a 0 star if possible. Reply to your response below. No additional information is needed by you. I will definitely be back to have them fix those things that I needed. Pretty honest and fair staff who worked with me and was very friendly. On a Sunday after noon arrived at 3:35pm. Jason initiated with saying that they will take care of the flat we had. We offered to leave the car and come back for it because they closed at 5. It was only me and another customer waiting in the waiting area. But others that weren't dressed in uniforms were able to sit in the work area. Come to find out, they were the owners of those vehicles because they left in the vehicles. After so long Jason asked the same information we spoke about when came in. He also wrote notes so I assumed he knew our situation and looked for a fire replacement when presented with the problem. He also asked us what car are we here for. I was puzzled as if we never spoke about this. Then close to after an hour his co worker Jimmy explained to us that he didn't even know our car was here to be serviced. I am not satisfied with the service here and do not plan to come back. We only came back here because we purchased tires from another location with the road hazards but the first location we went to was closed on sundays. I drive a terrifying, leprous beast of a car - a 1994 Pontiac Bonneville with more spray paint and primer than real paint, missing accent paneling and giant gold rims. It looks like something Mad Max would use to escape the Thunderdome ("who run bartertown?"). It's rare for me to take it to a car repair shop up here, being related to roughly 5,437 mechanics in Steuben county, but occasionally it's not worth the 2.5 drive for a simple oil change or basic upgrades/repairs. Recently, after the hood latch on Hooptie (as I affectionately call him) decided to not work for several months, I burned all the oil out of my car as if I were a rookie in owning an old behemoth. One day my oil pressure plummeted to naught and I, with some elbow grease from the bf, managed to finally pop the stubborn hood and refill it. However, the buildup of scorched oil quickly sullied the new oil (and no doubt the filter) and oil pressure problems persisted. On a fluke I decided to drop the car at this Monro on the way to Queen City Bookstore, hoping to walk up to the shop and come back to a finished oil change in a mere two hour window. This is unheard of in a lot of places - they overbook purposely and dropping your car for a simple inspection or oil change, even with an appointment, becomes an all day (or sometimes multi-day) affair. As someone who is used to chain places (well, all auto places) taking one look at my hideous-but-otherwise-in-good-shape car and trying to nickel and dime the crap out of me, I really enjoyed my experience at Monro. They did exactly what I asked, offered a few other basic services it actually was in need of (tire rotation, etc) and made zero bones about me turning down the non-urgent stuff. They had it finished in way less than an hour and were pretty reasonable with the price. When I heard a strange rattle a few weeks later I dropped it there again, meandered up to Queen City, and came back. What they needed to do to fix the loose piece took the guy "30 seconds" so they didn't even charge me! Awesome. Their staff is always courteous, they were great on the phone (when I dropped it for an oil change they called to tell me I needed my power steering fluid changed - no surprise to me) and they seem to not employ teenagers with no clue what they're doing (a la Pep Boys). I made an appointment and arrived 5 minutes early. They took over thirty minutes to print my cat in tor imspection. Then they took forever. In the energy they said that I have to buy new roters breaks and tires for a inspection pass 995$ . This is total crap, the guy I spoke with kept using bad language. Never go to this place. Sent my sister to this location to to get her breaks changed since I was to busy to do it. They told her that she will need new calipers new rotors and it would cost extra on the labor because it's harder than normal cars. The total cost they told her came out to be $1050.68 total. When she called me I told her to bring the car back. When they put her wheels back on they never put two of nuts on the wheel so we had to go buy one from the dealership. When the dealership checked out the car it only needed new break pads. She only payed $200 something. If you don't know nothing about car don't go to this location they are scams be careful.
