Wish I could go lower. We had them scheduled for a rehearsal dinner in 2019. Due to covid, had to re-schedule for July, 2021. 4 months before the event, I stopped by to see the private room and noticed peeling paint on the inside of the china cabinets and the room needed a good cleaning. When I pointed it out to the event planner, she said, I didn't notice and would address it with the owner. 3 weeks before the event I was told that it wouldn't be done and they offered to split the party into two rooms. I felt that I had no alternative since they had my money and it was 3 weeks before the event. Apparently, the owner was offended that I didn't want to host 40 people in a room with peeling paint so cancelled me! I called Rachel at Pane Vino and they did a fantastic job for us! I hate to give this such a low score. Last couple of times we went the service was extremely slow. We ordered in, figure to help support local businesses during covid19. My sea bass was a brick it was so over done, the polenta had no taste at all, and my veg,asparagus, was swimming in oil. The food here is fantastic!! I would love to give this place 5 stars but I saw some troubling things: 1. The person who put our food in to go containers (not our server) put our plates on a tray with someone else's dirty dishes--unacceptable! A server came by and took the dirty dishes off her tray, but there were still food bits on the tray that our to go containers touched. 2. That same person was resetting tables and turned the table cloth over from a previous customer to set the table for the next customers. Please use fresh linens or don't use linens at all. The eggplant was sliced so thin and then heavily breaded I couldn't taste the eggplant or even see it. It tasted like bread crumbs over breadcrumbs. We went here for my grandson's graduation dinner from STJF. His parents made the reservation 2 months in advance for 10 people @ 8 pm. We arrived & were seated @ 8:10. They were busy & it took a few minutes before we saw a waitress. The waitress came out with water & took our drink order & we also asked if she would take our meal order as it was busy. This was about 8:45. She came out with rolls & said bar was backed up but it wouldn't take long. They came within 10 mins & then she said she'd put our order in. The salads came out & are finished. Now we are at 9:45 & no food as yet. We signaled for waitress & asked & she apologized & explained kitchen very busy. 10 pm.....no food...no waitress. Our granddaughter & her fiancé had to leave as it was her birthday & she had plans & thought she'd be done, so they never even got to eat!! 10:15 pm my daughter goes in to check & was told that they are just very busy. My husband went in to speak to the Manager & was told she'd come out to talk to us. 10:30...no manager...no food..no one offering us any drinks or ANYTHING for waiting. My husband went back in, found Manager & she told him "If you want to leave, leave". What type of Manager would ever tell a Customer in a fine restaurant such as Monroe's. We were floored!!! At 10:40 a woman approached our table & asked if she could help us & my son-in-law asked if she was a manger. But she wasn't the one my husband spoke with & we told him that. She said she was another one. My son-in-law told her how upset he was with the service, that this was unacceptable, he had the reservation for 2 months. She went into the whole thing about things snowballing & the kitchen was catching up & just plating our meals!! He told her we wanted to know how she was going to fix this whole situation & she said she had to make some calls. I spoke up & asked her about the other Manager telling us to leave & she was horrified. Then we found out she was new & she apologized for her. We were FINALLY SERVED OUR MEAL AT 10:50 PM. There were exactly TWO TABLES LEFT AT THAT POINT IN THE RESTAURANT. Exactly 10 mins later, the other Manager FINALLY comes to our table. She shad the NERVE TO SAY"I SEE YOU GOT YOUR DINNERS"!!!! Personally I wanted to reach over the table & smack her. The bill was $400+ & the compensation for this miserable experience was $100 off bill. My poor grandson was looking forward to a nice graduation celebration meal with his family. His parents wanted him to have a well deserved celebration with his family. Food: I came here for a friends birthday last night, and all 6 of us were impressed with the food. I was so incredibly pleased with my entree - the Verdita with chicken. Seemed like a Mediterranean twist to the dish with angel hair pasta, kalamata olives, artichoke hearts, spinach, sun dried tomatoes with feta cheese in a white wine garlic sauce. So much flavor but not overwhelming. My friends got the scallops, burger, Cajun porkchops, chicken diavolo and the eggplant Parmesan and everyone loved their meal. Hadn't been to Monroe's in a long time and was incredibly pleased with my visit last night. The place was packed, which was so nice to see and really surprising to me for a Wednesday night. Went as part of a big group (16) for a work dinner and the waitress was incredible. She was kind, efficient, knew the menu and dietary (allergy) accommodations well and man did she hustle! Food and drinks did take a long time to come out (dinner was 2.5 hours!) but some of that to be expected with the number of people dining and the size of our group. I'm sure currently staffing shortages impacted this turnaround time as well. Food was all really good, expensive entrees as other reviewers pointed out, but good portion sizes. Extensive menu made it hard to choose, but gave me a reason to go back and try something different. Very impressed with number of GF options, and I'm always happy to have them identified as such on menu so I know what I can choose from instead of having to ask about each offering. Our family was very upset and embarrassed that the Mother's Day dinner deal for four people for 160.00 was horrible. We got one container of salad for 4 people. ( see photo) our potatoes were burned ( see photo), we got one container for 4 of beans and greens. Very small. ( see container) the quiche wasn't cooked and we had to cook it for another 20 minutes or so. We each got one small piece of chicken. The fruit, 4 rolls, and desserts were fine. I wrote an email to Monroe's and was appalled that they defended their portions and food. They messed up on the one small container of salad adding cranberries. We asked for a plain salad because my husband was allergic, but we got the cranberry salad. They were defensive and offered us a 20.00 gift card so my husband could have a salad. Do You In Fact Have Any Lunch? Remember that famous Monte Python bit about the guy that goes into the cheese shop to buy cheese and they don't have any cheese. Such was our very unfortunate experience on Thursday, June 28 at Monroes. I was there with a group of former co-workers for our monthly lunch. The story was they had a fire of some kind in the kitchen and their gas was off. I suspect their chef quit. They said they could provide nothing hot but could provide salads and sandwiches. Nope. Really the only thing they had was turkey and greens. I paid $16 for a bowl of mixed greens a few pecans and a a few very thin slices of deli turkey. My fellow hapless diners were equally disappointed. The restaurant was grossly understaffed and it took forever to be served. We were seated at 12:00 and did not leave the restaurant until almost 3:00pm. I suspect they were running to Wegmans to buy whatever they were serving and that is why it took so long to get our orders. They offered us free desserts for our patience but should have charged us nothing for the miserable excuse for a lunch. This restaurant should have CLOSED if they could not provide a decent lunch rather than subjecting customers to what we had to endure yesterday. I felt sorry for our harried waitress who tried under impossible circumstances but this had to be one of the worst experiences EVER in a restaurant. If I could give 0 stars, I would. We will NEVER return. We booked a semiprivate room and I thought that might mean we could hear eachother talk but it was in the bar area and the table so large that everyone had to shout. Our reservations were at 6 and we were seated on time. We finally finished at 9 and obviously didn't order birthday desserts we would have if they service wasn't so ungodly slow. It's a shame because the food was good, but the service was just so slow and the waitress never came back for drink orders or to clear plates or anything. At the start our party of 10 was missing 2 people (they were coming straight from the airport and running late) and the hostess was so rude and wouldn't seat us until the whole group arrived. We got seated in an environment-less corner of the restaurant with a server that was incredibly rude, probably because they automatically add 22% gratuity to parties of 6 or more, so why be pleasant at all? Then the food came. Many of us were craving chicken French so we ordered that. Like I said, worst chicken French I've ever had. The sauce was somehow both too sour and too sweet and tasteless. Now the temperature outside is a frigid 24 degree and every time the door opened, we were hit with a blast of freezing air. We kindly asked to be moved before any order was placed and were curtly informed that all dining room tables were taken. Imagine to our surprise as we watched three separate parties of four be seated in the dining room within five minutes of us asking to be moved. The waitress came over introduced herself and the specials, it was difficult to hear because the restaurant was so loud. Several times throughout dinner we had to repeat what we were trying to say to each other because it was literally too loud to hear each other. The waitress asked if we wanted drinks, she wasn't sure if they had any white Zinfandel (even though it was clearly listed on the specials for the evening). We asked for a wine list and were told they didn't have one. Asked us if we wanted any appetizers, we ordered the potato croquettes, and then she didn't take our dinner order until we were almost done with the appetizer. She brought the bread but not any plates to serve it with. She never removed the plates from the appetizer or our salads and she never asked us if we wanted more wine. I ordered the scallops with risotto, my risotto was dry, not creamy. The scallops were overcooked, over seasoned and burnt. My husband ordered the lobster tail and the butter was extremely salty. Overall the service was extremely poor, the food was disappointing the ambiance was appalling, perhaps the dining room area is nicer but since we didn't walk more than 8 feet from the hostess station we will never know. Would never recommend. update: called and requested to speak with the manager. Was told manager wasn't in and ended up speaking with the bar manager and shared our experience. Was told the manger would like to know what happened and that the manager would call me in the next few days. I never received a call back, they obviously do not care. read more

Saturday night was the first time I have ever been to this restaurant. I like the vibe. Staff was friendly. We ordered special holiday cosmopolitans which were extremely sour. My sister-in-law could barely drink hers. We got the artichoke French as an appetizer. That is definitely worthy of five stars! I'm not a huge fan of artichoke French but this I would get every time. For entrees we got the lobster mac and cheese. It was delicious and loaded with lobster. The chicken French was good too but the cutlets should be pounded out and maybe a different type of pasta served with it because the angel hair soaked up all the juice which was the best part so ask for a different pasta. The grouper. Let's talk about the grouper. It was amazing x 10. A light flaky perfectly breaded fish . It melted in your mouth and made you want more . Somebody at your table should order it so you can taste it. We all got Caesar salads which I would definitely not recommend. Get the regular house salad we had to pay an upcharge for the Caesar salad and I had a whole anchovy staring me right in the face. It wasn't romaine lettuce either. It was real wet and not crispy. The bread is amazing whatever kind of spices are in the oil they serve with it it's so good I could drink it. We got two servings of that. All in all it was a pleasant experience. Definitely get the artichoke friends and the grouper. You could get the lobster mac and cheese and everyone could share it which is probably what I would do next time because it's so rich. Made a 7pm reservation for an outside table Saturday night 2 weeks in advance. At 7:35 we asked how much longer to be sat, and was never told it would take so long or we would have gotten a cocktail from the bar. At the same time another party of 4 with 7:30 reservations were demanding a table, we were patient and quiet - squeaky wheel gets the table! They were sat first, outside. We were taken to a table inside and was told if we wanted outside it was going to be "a much longer wait." It was LOUD. We could not visit with each other. At 7:50 our drink order was taken and after 8 when our first drinks arrived. We were told the kitchen was backed up and food was taking a while. We asked to order, the waitress walked away... probably because it was SO LOUD she could not hear us asking to order. There were 3 large parties around us and we basically did not talk to each other or we would be screaming. At 9:15 my quesadilla arrived and was no better than my neighborhood bowling alley could make. Fake cheese, jar salsa, canned jalapeños... Never again! read more

Stopped in for dinner Friday to visit a friend who works here and honestly because that was our reason for going, I didn't really think about the food until it came out. My buddy is a top-notch bartender and would never work somewhere with mediocre food or drinks, that knowledge was enough to get us in the door. ... and I am so very glad we went. My bf ordered chicken parm, loved it, and had two more meals out of the leftovers. I ordered the sea scallops with risotto and woah, I told friends later that night it was the best meal I've had in months and it really was. It was pricey, but for five giant, perfectly cooked scallops it was an great value, I mean you'll pay $20 for scallops at Wegmans and then you still have to try and cook the damn things. The risotto was also amazing, a rich flavor and perfect texture. I definitely did NOT have leftovers, I ate everything in front of me, something I rarely (if ever) accomplish at a restaurant. I just couldn't stop, it was so good. Our service was, of course, fantastic. I recommend sitting at the bar, the beautiful, spacious bar top definitely added to ambiance also. I went here with the intention of trying a mixed drink (for once) but all those years of making craft cocktails seems to have ruined my taste for drinking them, so both bf and I enjoyed some scotch, which they have a decent selection of. They do have a nice-looking cocktail list which I believe gets updated regularly just to switch things up, so if that's your thing definitely give one of their specialty drinks a try. 40 mins for our first drink. Every drink was made incorrectly. Took our order for the special soup. After another half hour we were told it was no longer available. I can tell my Manhattan was made first, by the time it go to me it's clear it sat for 10 min. I have never ordered a Caesar side salad to have it covered in mushrooms and anchovies. I know anchovies are a part of the salad dressing but not in the salad itself. They said they're the only place in town to do that (it's easy to see why). Take the hint and at least mention it or ask if you would like your salad to be terrible. By far the WORST risotto I have ever had with my scallops (at least the scallops were cooked properly). I'm stretching to find a good thing to say about this restaurant (the free bread was the best thing). It did seem out server was really trying and she was very nice. The live band playing reminded me of the terrible elevator music you're forced to listen to. To be blunt, this place is a huge disappointment. Just keep driving when you pass by. I hate to see such a great location go to waste. Luckily we were with great company. All six of us could not believe what we received for what we spent. Despite the fact that I caught them spamming here a few months ago, we went here for dinner last Friday night (on one of the few Fridays I've had available for some time), and were less than completely satisfied with the experience. I really wanted to like the place, but, it really all comes down to the food, and that is where they lagged. The decor is really quite nice (once you find that the entrance is in the back, unlike the way it was when it was the Spring house), and it's really quite a bit nicer than the way I remembered it was more than 30 years ago, when I was last in this location. There is a nice open bar area right near the entryway, with several tables around an ersatz fireplace, and a lot of open floor space. A previous comment about the crowd (mostly mentioning Pittsford cougars) was incomplete, as the place also attracts young women wearing far-too-short dresses, shlubby middle-aged men, young guys who don't know enough to remove their hats indoors, and even one older guy with his ancient mom.The bar gets quite noisy, but luckily the dining area is away from the bar. Unfortunately, it seems groups from the bar migrate over and take residence at tables in the dining area at will. The cocktails served were quite good (and stronger than I expected), and the wine selection was slightly better than average for wines by the glass, maybe a bit thin for wines by the bottle. The entree selections were a bit on the pricey side, but considering the location, probably about right. My partner and I both ordered pasta dishes, me a chicken dish, him a similar dish with shrimp. The first sign of problems was probably when the waiter (after we had waited about 15 minutes) brought my partner a large spoon, but not me. After about another 10 minutes, I asked the waiter if, since I was also having a pasta dish, if perhaps I could have a pasta spoon as well? He brought me one, and we waited yet another 10 minutes, until our dishes arrived. Mine came, strangely, WITHOUT any pasta. Well, after another 5 minutes, I managed to get the attention of our waiter, and he took the dish back, then re-emerged a few minutes later with my food, on a bed of poorly-drained pasta, swimming in far too much liquid that it was nearly soup. It might not've been so bad if the food had any real taste, but aside from the feta and far too much salt, it was really quite bland. My partner's less-watery dish was also a bit bland, but quite salty as well. The amount of time a table waited for their food to arrive was quite inexplicable. There was a table near us of an adult man and his mother, who were there well before us, who ordered shellfish (which usually doesn't take long to cook), and they were served maybe 10 minutes AFTER us (they probably waited nearly an hour from ordering until being served!). We waited more than 30 minutes for a simple pasta dish, yet a table that sat down a full 10 minutes after us, got their order served about 10 minutes before ours! In the end, for about $80 for 2 people, you can do better elsewhere. I doubt I'll return. read more

The far corner was reserved to what appeared to be a bachelorette party, so one of the bartenders was attending to there needs. One other bartender trying to keep up with the servers and everyone else at the bar, 15 minutes later we got a drink, 40 minutes later, really for a 7:00 reservation we were seated!!! Now we were seated, but no server appeared for 15 minutes! She apologized saying it was very busy, not her fault, management! The table next to us had no server for 30 minutes!! We ordered a drink, she comes back and said the bar is really backed up, so you want to order dinner, we started wed really like a drink first, or is the kitchen behind as well? Answer..no they're doing great....ha ha no dinner until 9:00...awful....the manager stopped by, we voiced our concerns, gee let me buy up a drink or let me pay for your dessert..nope nothing, you would have thought they would have done something, plus it was our anniversary....sorry Monroes cant say I'll be back, you need to take care of your customers if you're running behind like you were comp something!! Most places in my experience have a difficult time catering to large parties and preparing food that comes out with care and preparation. Monroes however provided us with fantastic food and in quite large portions. From the appetizers to the main meal everything was fantastic. The drinks and the bar were great as well! A nice get together with a few friends, party of four. Nice seating outside. We ordered a bottle of wine (Malbec) and some calamari. Calamari can be ordered fried or grilled, I talked my buddy into taking a risk and going grilled. It was tender and tasty. It came with cherry peppers and kalamata olives with some marinara and lemon herb aioli. I ordered the pecan crusted salmon. It was encrusted with pecans (it worked) and came with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The pecan and salmon was a great combo. It provided a sweet nuttiness with the salmon. I really liked it. The mashed potatoes... delicious. The asparagus had great flavor and a nice snap. One of my friends ordered the chicken French and I was fantastic. I hear that it is a favorite for this place. My other two friends went Parmesan. One went chicken. The other eggplant. Both were very happy with their meals (especially eggplant). It was a fun place with good food and a nice outdoor patio. Wow, I was super impressed with this place! I went there for a bridal shower this Sunday, it was the first time I was there. The interior is beautiful and they had the room where the shower was decorated so pretty! The place settings were already at the table with pink napkins wrapped with peals and the plates were on gold chargers. it was just beautiful! The food was DELICIOUS! There was a simple blue berry salad with walnuts and I think it was fetta cheese and balsamic dressing. The quiche Lorraine was delish. I could have eaten the whole thing. Potatoes were cooked and seasoned perfectly. They also has mini pastries, which I am assuming were from there since Monroe's also is a bakery. everything was really great and my whole table decieded we are going back for dinner or to catch their happy hour which is Monday through Saturday!!!! read more

DELICIOUS...another Rochester restaurant week hit. We had the crab cakes, calamari and Pecan salmon. The crab cakes weren't the best but they were good. The calamari and salmon were AWESOME SAUCE !!! Our waitress Michelle and the other ladies who serviced our table were phenomenal- all were super attentive with smiles. The restaurant seems to offer catering as its a hall as well for an array of functions. The decor was modern with a warm feeling. I'll definitely come back when I'm in Rochester. read more

The seafood Fra Diavolo is tasty but not enough seafood for a $28 pasta dish. The antipasto was plentiful and could be shared. The Monday 1/2 price glass of wine was a welcomed surprise since this was my first time checking out the restaurant. The service was standard. Nothing exceptional and nothing bad. The patio looks inviting but since the weather is still sketchy it wasn't set up. I am going to go back and try it again. read more

Was excited to see the beautiful outside when arriving. Not a lot of people-bonus. Food on the expensive side. Ordered artichoke French dinner. Two artichokes in, felt something puncture my tongue. Fished out a piece of metal in my mouth. Showed the server. I'm guessing it was a manager came out to apologize and ask if I wanted another dish. No thanks. Chef said it was a piece of a strainer in my food. Manager said she took my dish off the bill. Like I would have paid for it anyway. Should have given me something-gift card, free drink....anything else but a removal of inferior food I never would have paid for anyway. Likely to return? Nope. read more

So glad they just recently opened. This has to be one of my favorite restaurants around. Great atmosphere, great staff, and amazing entrées.
