As you know staying at the Montage is always a treat! I'm not sure there's a hotel chain that does it better! This particular Montage is nestled into the hills of Healdsburg, and it is absolutely stunning. The grounds are so beautiful with white roses, Russian sage, lavender, olive trees, and of course grapevines! At the check-in you are offered a glass of their rosé, if this changes from time to time, I am unsure, but today we were offered rosé. This wine is produced at a local vineyard called Aperture with the grapes apparently from the property at Montage and it is very good! Our room, of course, was spectacular with a small balcony that included a bistro table, a sofa, and a fire pit! We used every ounce of that balcony....it was so fun sitting next to the fire pit with a glass of wine before dinner. The beds are really comfortable as are the pillows. the shower is spectacular and they have a soaking tub. The bathroom is big so that two people can share it comfortably. Of course there's other options for you to stay in, including larger bungalows, and or rental homes that are also on property. Other amenities include an adult pool, a kiddie pool, a nice gym that is indoor/outdoor, and a spa with saunas that you can use even if you don't have a spa appointment, rental bikes and the concierge can set up wine, tastings, and horseback riding for you. I am giving it a rating of four only because this particular weekend seemed to be unusually busy with a large group in on a business trip and a wedding. That meant none of the things that we would like to have done such as visiting Aperture Vineyards, horseback riding, and spa appointments were available. Disappointing for sure as we would have liked to have done all of these things. The unfortunate part was that the concierge's didn't seem to put a lot of effort into trying to get appointments for us and never got back to us unless we sought them out to find out the answers. The other reason I'm giving it a four instead of a five is that one of our days we asked for wine and charcuterie to be delivered to our room at 5 PM while we headed out for a bike ride and some wine tasting at a local vineyard. When we got back, it was about 4:45 PM and we were very excited for charcuterie and wine. However, room service dropped the ball and never got our order so we had to repeat ourselves and tell them again what we would like, and even then they called us back to verify our wine choice, it took almost an hour to get a somewhat sloppily put together charcuterie board, and our wine. Not that I need it comped but I thought it would have been offered since they dropped the ball but it was not. We are still Montage people and plan to visit others, including their newest one in the Bahamas! read more

She was one of the first people we interacted with when we arrived and she came with a lovely treat for my dog Elton. We did not stay at the hotel, but we brunched at the delightful Hazel Hill. Both the food and setting were perfect, I can't wait to visit again. We called in the morning after a wedding, and managed to get a reservation for three on the patio. Gorgeous, well-maintained setting with sun-drenched seating, a lovely breeze and blooming flowers. Service is excellent. Coffee is dark and strong. Espresso is also tasty. The French Omelette was simple and delicious, but the secret surprise was the crisp, green salad on the side. Surrounded by rolling vineyards, the Montage is definitely the rare Sonoma wine country resort that perfectly channels its surroundings while offering all of the luxury resort trappings: not quite 5 stars, the service needs to be up a notch to claim that elite status. After getting off Highway 1 at the Dry Creek exit and wending along the loping Montage Way that leads to the property, the hotel is surrounded by planted vineyards. The style is modern, the landscaping goes heavy on oak and eucalyptus trees, rosemary, really great setting! With a bit of a wait, we were taken to our room. There are 130 guest rooms and suites set on vineyards and oak groves. They are like modern free standing bungalows, e property's pre-existing oak trees. The room is smaller than expected- maybe it is the type of room we got but also not the best designed. The best feature is the sliding doors and the expansive cantilevered patios with private fire pits. The view is breathtaking and is definitely the winner. Otherwise, the water pressure at the shower needs some major improvement. Poor area we went for a drink and the next day we still saw our towels and empty glasses. Is it a beautiful resort yes absolutely but there is room for improvement to make it a true 5 star. read more

The Montage is stunningly beautiful, both inside and out. Nestled in the hills amongst oak trees and vineyards, you can't help but feel relaxed from the moment you arrive until long after you've left. The natural beauty is so serene. But as they say, it's what's inside that counts. Our room was perfectly decorated. Everything looked and felt new. The bathroom was so luxurious, with an indoor shower, outdoor shower and huge soaking tub. So why the 4-star rating, you ask? As others have noted, the service could be a bit better. To be fair, every staff member we encountered was lovely - very helpful and so polite. The problem was that there wasn't enough staff in areas that needed staffing. For example, we spent a good deal of time at the pool waiting for a server and nobody arrived. I had to call the front desk twice to eventually get someone to assist. Even then, I had to order over the phone without seeing a menu. And the staff ended up bringing the wrong bottles of wine. There was another group at the pool next to us that had a similarly difficult experience. So, a little room for improvement on that front. read more

That said, the staff was lovely: always friendly and ready to assist (including driving you to/from your "room"). Basics/amenities also generally exceeded expectations: - Bedside table on both sides of the bed with lamps and electrical/USB outlets, - Ample counter space in bathroom with hair dryer, shower cap, and other toiletries, - Vent fan in the bathroom and another in the toilet closet, - Outdoor shower and large soaking tub, - Private fire pit on balcony with two seating areas, - Complimentary coffee/tea and bottled water in room (water also available self-serve in the 24-hour fitness center--fruit infusion seemed to be different daily), - Fitness center with multiple cardio machines (stairclimbers, treadmills, ellipticals, Peloton and recumbent cycling machines), weight machines, weight benches, free weights/kettle bells, yoga mats, - Adults-only pool and cabanas were beautifully kept (sunscreen available poolside) and far enough away for the family-friendly pool noise not to permeate. The location is not walkable to convenience store/pharmacy/grocery store/cafes/restaurants/sightseeing, but there seemed to be some walking trails around the property (it was in the 100*Fs when we were there, so the pool was more inviting). From the bellmen, to the valet, to the front desk staff, and the restaurant waiters.. superb. Being one that has an opinion and notices everything, I had a chance to talk to Ginny, as well as their Director James. Both of them exceptionally professional and really welcomed my feedback. The willingness to continue to excel is what sets apart a 5 star resort. The service was prompt, and special attention was given to each guest. Everyone was polite and in just an overall good mood. We stayed here in April as my husband had a work retreat to attend. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained. Our deluxe forest king room was clean and spacious and had both an indoor and outdoor shower. The outdoor shower is a must use! The fire pit in our balcony was great to sit out at night with a glass of wine. Our room was one of the first rooms right on top of the hill so a quick walk to the main lobby and pool. They do have golf carts that can pick you up and take you around as well. All the employees were very friendly and helpful. You can tell this is a new establishment as some areas of the resort had subpar service. The pool next to the spa was great to sit out at and very tranquil. I personally did not go to the spa but 2 friends went and they were not impressed with the services they received and said it was very overpriced. The gym is small but the machines are up to date and modern. They even have a Peloton here! They had plenty of weights to work with and also private classes you can pay to take. For activities on the resort I played bocce ball which is located to the back of the restaurant. The bocce court was slightly lopsided and needs better borders on one side of the court. I also played pickleball which was enjoyable but way out in the open with minimal shade so be sure to bring a hat out there. There is a hiking trail on property as well. They also have bikes and electronic bikes for use. And I also saw archery on premises. Plenty of activities to explore! Secret tips that you may miss: - Check out the log nest for the honeybees, which is located out by the vineyard. You can see a swarm of them in there which is neat to see. - The hotel has a cute dog ambassador named Beau. I saw him one day in the lobby, greeting guests. - The burger at the pool is amazing! Try it out if you love burgers! Overall, this is a beautiful property with friendly employees but overpriced for what you get. What a beautiful, peaceful and charming estate planted in the middle of a winery in Sonoma County. This is really a beautiful and breathtaking estate spanning over more than 258 acres. The setting is absolutely divine. It is also an original concept with luxurious bungalows-house perched on top of a hill with two swimming pools, hiking trails and much more. The rooms are perched in the trees almost like a tree house with a modern and sleek California style. Plenty of space with remarkably comfortable beds and a great terrace. The food at their main restaurant was also exquisite. So, I really don't understand how the rating is so low. We had some small incidents like the carts not picking you on time, or waiting for your car a long time. But, patience is a great virtue. The entire staff including concierge Andrea were absolutely delightful and always trying to deliver their very best! There is a lot to love here and we really appreciate Montage Healdsburg. Excellence at every level. My husband and I decided to staycation at the Montage Healdsburg from our home in San Francisco as a Thanksgiving getaway, and we are so glad we did. From start to finish, the service was 5-star. Everyone at the resort was so kind, engaging, and helpful. There was a genuine sense that everyone truly liked their job and wanted to be there. It just added to the beautiful ambiance of the resort itself and made it such a magical experience. The accommodations were next level. We stayed in a forest view king suite that boasted floor-to-ceiling windows, a spa-like bathroom with amazing large tub and outdoor shower, and space for entertaining guests with a gracious open concept living/dining room and abutting powder room. It also had a large outdoor deck that ran the length of the suite and featured a beautiful fire pit we enjoyed throughout the day. The way the resort is laid out is more like a small community, with carless roads winding throughout the forested hillsides and centered around a beautiful vineyard. It was so nice just wandering throughout the property! One thing that took me by surprise was how they made the stay not just special for us, but our two dogs. They provided beds, a crate, water and food bowls, a handwritten note addressed personally to each dog, and even gift boxes for them with treats, poop bags, wipes, and wine-themed chew toys. Wow! Everyone who worked there was always sure to greet them, play with them, and make sure our "kids" were welcomed just as much as we were. We opted to eat at the resort for the duration of our stay, including Thanksgiving dinner, and were impressed with the quality of food, presentation, and service. There's no bad seat in any of the restaurants and things were always lively and spirited. Even if you're just looking for a place in the area to dine, the Montage is a fabulous option. Overall, I can't say enough how impressed and grateful we were for our experience at the Montage Healdsburg. What a gorgeous property. My husband and I drove up from LA for a much needed break from life and got the relaxing weekend we needed. The spa was fabulous; our room was spacious, clean, modern, and comfy. We loved our fire pit and Mountain View. Pros: service was friendly; rooms are amazing; views for everyone; spa is splendid. Complimentary wine upon arrival. Comfy bed. Loads of space. Cons: had to eat off site- practically no food for vegans. I don't know why it's so difficult to offer an "on-purpose" dish listed on the menu. Suggestion: Hand-made pasta with cashew cream, herbs, local mushrooms. Be inclusive. It's the future--get in front of it. Literally no service at the pool during winter. There were 6 total guests in the jacuzzi with not one server, manager or attendant present. No towel cubby, no heaters, no coat rack for robes. Had to pile damp towels in a corner against the building. Captive audience -- we would've ordered a bottle of champagne. Major missed opportunity. Would consider returning but not in winter. Would have to pack a cooler full of snacks and food. Otherwise, great read more

Not a shining star! The beautiful location and stunning grounds do not have their match in the management of the resort. Our luggage took over an hour to receive from the valet. Another rooms garment was delivered to our room. The clock radio did not work. The lock on our room door did not work properly. Light switch next to bed did not work. The management thought it a good idea to use a fake plastic grape vine to disguise a white fire hydrant?!?! (The tag was still hanging from the plastic.) It is so ironic to have that silliness right next to real grape vines that are pain stakingly labeled. No one is paying attention to the running of this resort. It feels as if the staff was just hired with no training and with no previous experience! How can this be when paying these prices? Please note that the restaurant Hazel Hill was organized, the staff great and the food delicious. I would love to return but fear it will take a long while to turn the resort around. Everyone was so kind and helpful and wanted to do everything they could to give my family and myself the best experience. I was here to celebrate my birthday and everywhere we went the staff made me feel special and spoiled. We ate at the restaurant Hazel Hill and our waiter Jason was attentive, knowledgeable, and went out of his way to take care of us. Even the security officers that gave us rides wished me a happy birthday and were so friendly. But whatever you do, don't complain because you will be lectured. Of the four dishes we had, only one of them would have sent us back for more. I don't even want to talk about the service. Scout Bar is a happening new spot in town, with beautiful views out over a vineyard...and fabulous people-watching! It was at the top of our list for our first Girls' Night post-vaccinations! We went on a Wednesday at 5:30pm - I called in advance and was told that they don't typically take reservations for the bar, but that it shouldn't be too busy that day/time. The outside seats were taken but we had our pick of inside seats and parked for the night near the beautiful glass fireplace. Love the warm decor of the lobby. We enjoyed a few cocktails and small plates to share. A few of us opted for the Fresa Flaca and I highly recommend it. It's like a spicy, strawberry margarita. Not overly sweet or spicy. Super well-balanced and refreshing! I didn't see the cocktail prices on the menu but they were about $20 each!!! We shared the Burrata, truffle fries, and crudité. The burrata is a must-get, the truffle fries are a should-get, and the crudité for me is a pass - it was prettily presented and the friends liked it but I personally don't love raw asparagus or huge chunks of raw broccoli. For $6 more, I will try the burger next time! The servers were friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. It wasn't a cheap night but it was a fun and fancy one! Everyone driving to the hotel has to valet their car. It's free, but remember to bring cash to tip. And as others have noted, the valet circle seems too small for the hotel and the valet team is perhaps understaffed (as is all of hospitality right now), so just note that you may have to wait a little while to retrieve your car. I was fearful the place might be sort of 'stuffy' since their rooms are REALLY expensive but that was not the case at all. We had a fabulous, fun and entertaining server, Kyle. He made it very fun. We loved our 4 day stay at the Montage! Our room is a quick 5 minute (easy) walk to the restaurant/spa/pool. You can also text or call for a golf cart if needed. The resort is beautiful and peaceful. The architectural design/decor is stunning. They also put thought into small details (very soft/subtle spa music that you can hear from your balcony that comes from the vineyard). The matte marble tub with a 'ledge' for your head to rest. The food that we had was delicious. Price point for food/beverages is similar to what you would pay at a nice restaurant. The staff was lovely and very helpful. We will definitely stay here again. I read other complaints about waiting on your car or needing a golf cart. This isn't uncommon at resorts. All you need to do is text ahead and let them know when you want a golf cart or your car and they will have it ready. This is long overdue...Three years ago today, someone very special to me - and I - chose this magical location for Valentine's dinner, because we knew it would be a spot that would be really exceptional for us. We were staying in the area, and spent a bit of time getting prepared for a special night. Unfortunately already on the drive over, I was worried about how things were unraveling for us. You see, my special someone and I were dealing with some real setbacks in life. However, we arrived and the grounds were breathtaking ,and the service impeccable. By the time we sat down to dinner, I was enchanted by the surroundings, the attention, the menu and the ambiance, but unfortunately, I was tense and trying to cover it up. Also, we had brought her two small support dogs, as we couldn't leave them in the hotel, which was adding to my stress as one dog was starting to show symptoms of diabetes. We ordered dinner and midway through the perfect meal, as I was pretending to have a good time, worried about our lives, poor little doggie who was dealing with diabetes peed on the beautiful floor. I was mortified. My brain completely went into haywire mode. Despite being in a haze of emotions, I got the attention of some staff. I cannot tell you how kind and gentle they were with us. It was one of the most touching experiences I've ever had. They wouldn't let me help with the dog pee. We left early without the dessert, but they made sure to bring us some complementary delicious cookies and unique out-of-this-world chocolates to take out. I still have the box. It was something about the staff that night... It was like they knew that we were really trying, and they wanted to meet us halfway. Three years later, sobriety and personal growth lead my special someone and I forward into more and more fulfilling days. Every day seems to get better. Absolutely not worth the price. They are charging 5 star pricing but are missing the mark by a long shot. The only upside is that property is absolutely stunning. We arrived right before 4pm check in, and were in awe of the beauty and aesthetic of the property but unfortunately it was downhill from there. We arrived around 3:45 for our 4pm check in and our room was not ready. So we sat with a glass of wine and waited. 4pm came and went and still no room. No apology, nothing. Just "cleaning services are still making their rounds" kind of excuse. When I approached the desk to ask AGAIN on the status of our room she offered that I could get ready in the spa for our dinner reservation. Unacceptable for a resort charging what they are. We eventually got into our room nearly an hour after check-in time. Only after reaching out to a manager to file a complaint did they acknowledge the misstep on their part. And send us 'complimentary' wine to the room. As we left for dinner we requested a bucket of ice to the room around 8pm... it never came. We had the same request second night... also never came. At breakfast we never could find a server to refill water glasses. And after asking for a coffee refill as our meal arrived - nobody ever came back with it. Bottom line - service is bad bad bad. Someone in charge of this place should go visit a Four Seasons and see that kind of service allows for that price point. We came with 4 couples to stay here and celebrate a friends birthday. Once again, Montage is charging guests for absolutely anything and everything. A recent meal guest check included a "service charge" as well as a place for a server tip. As of 1 July, SB-478 will make that practice illegal. More recently I attended an important event staged at the facility. Want wi-fi while dining? You can buy it. This was my third year attending the event at this location and, for the first time, the hotel charged a parking fee of $15. Upon investigation we discovered that the valet service does not receive this money. So I tipoed the valet as well, of course, as that department is quite good. Nickel and dime policies. read more

Came here just for the Scout Field Bar and had a great experience! We came on a Saturday afternoon for pre dinner drinks and it wasn't too busy at all, though it did fill up the close it got to dinner. The staff was super friendly and attentive. The drinks were great as well, we got a cold brew cocktail and a strawberry margarita type drink. We also ordered a fried chicken sandwich to share and they were so nice as to bring it out nicely cut in half on two plates with two small separate portions of fries! Prices were high as to be expected but I'd definitely come back for drinks and light bites! read more

This place definitely has a WOW factor. The staff is friendly, the atmosphere is very relaxing, and you feel rested even after one night. My husband and I stayed here 3 nights after Thanksgiving as a getaway before the real chaos of the holidays. We sampled wine from the vineyard, indulged in the spa experience, and had dinner at both the bar and the restaurant. It was good, but overpriced. The massage and spa experiences were fine...but overpriced. Dinner was delicious....but overpriced. And the hotel itself was really nice....but overpriced. (Sense a theme?). I really had an issue with paying for parking. I had to pay for parking because the only option was valet. It was $40 a night! Can I get a self-park option? Took my middle kid out for brunch and ended up here. I got the French omelette and he got the Benedict. We finished that off with their lemon tart which if I'm honest is the entire reason I came back. This lemon tart is perfectly balanced between sweet and sour and has a delicious crust. This is one of those hotels that look luxurious on paper but delivers subpar customer service with bad quality hardware. While valet was friendly, staff at the front desk put up with a fake smile and had no interest in what you had to say. I requested for a bottle of water and assistance in booking the spa treatment at check-in and received neither. The phone and coffee machine in our room were broken and the mattress was uncomfortable and saggy in the middle. They have both adult and family pools but no changing rooms and shower, so you're forced to either walk half a mile back to your room or awkwardly ride in the golf cart dripping wet. Also got an attitude from front desk when I asked for late checkout in the morning and the change wasn't even entered in the system, so we got a call at regular checkout time asking us to leave. This is our first Montage hotel experience and I'm not sure if we'll want to try another location. read more

Wow, wow, wow! This is absolutely the finest resort or hotel that we have ever stayed in. It was our honeymoon and we were absolutely blown away by every aspect of this amazing property. As you enter the grounds, you're surrounded by vines, they produce their own wine and the beautiful hills and mountains of Sonoma County. When you reach the main lobby, you were greeted by many staff members with a smile, you enter this gorgeous lobby and are offered a complementary glass of wine while you're checking in. Everybody on this property is on point. You are then brought on a golf cart to your room where you have your own private balcony with a gas fire pit, we had the Single room, which was very spacious, beautifully decorated and had the finest amenities. The staff decorated the bed with real flower petals in the shape of a heart and two long stem white roses plus a complementary bottle of champagne. They turn down the room twice a day leave you chocolates and treat you like a queen and a king. They also have a fleet of Cadillac Escalade's where they will chauffeur you to local restaurants, but it is first come first serve, but we were never turned away. They have a pool and outdoor bar, a wonderful restaurant where you can have breakfast, lunch or dinner. Once again, the staff were all amazing, so friendly, and Annie from the concierge department was simply amazing. Our flight was delayed and she was able to reschedule all of our Events With a smile. We cannot wait to go back to this amazing location. read more

We stayed this weekend at the Montage, booked the vineyard king room. We were pleasantly transported to our room via a golf cart. Service and ambiance were impeccable. The location was serene and like a retreat. The suites are perched on the hill with enough privacy between them. The room was excellent and the view overlooking the vineyards was phenomenal. read more

First day has been really disappointing. We have a suite and an adjoining room. This runs a little more than $6k a night, so one would expect a good experience. The hotel unfortunately has some design problems that make it very hard for management and staff to deliver a good experience. For one, checking in/dropping off your car with valet (there is no self parking) takes a long time but even worse is PICKING UP YOUR CAR! Today it took over 30 minutes to get my car from when we initially called from the room, and the only reason they got the car was because a super nice manager (Rami) went and got it for us personally. Then we get back from dinner in Healdsburg to find that the music from the party is thumping so loudly that we can't enjoy a bottle of wine out on the "forest view" porch with a fire pit without just hearing bass. It even made going to sleep an issue. When I called the front desk, they informed me that the event is going until midnight. Overall, a very poor experience. If it continues like this, then I'll definitely give terrible feedback to my friends and service that we use to plan all our trips. This is stupid to pay so much to have such poor service and to feel like you're in a roach motel on Ocean Blvd in South Beach. read more
