We went for the CAA special which gives you two burgers, sandwiches or salads for $19.99, it's a very good deal! The staff are all upbeat, friendly, very helpful and nice. I really love the décor! It really reminds me of the lodges out west in BC. We ordered the grilled salmon salad and the veggie burger with fries. Our food was hot, tasty and plentiful, and we shared everything. The fries were really good, and for me having good fries is important. I like the way our drinks came in mason jars too. It's a good price for a delicious dinner for two. Montana's Cook House - the smell that comes from here alone drives my crazy when I am out in the park, it smells so good. We went her the other week for the first time. I was told it was good food and it lived up to the expectations. We had the ribs, they are to die for! Messy and good, just how ribs should be. I loved the chicken philly cheese sandwich and sweet potato fries, and my hubby really liked the wings (with the hot sauce on the side, he did not find them too hot). Heaven forbid eating wings in a pre-fab assemble yourself eatery. That I usually save for a pub with a wing night. I honestly was not impressed with the service at all. Our waitress was rude and barely listened to our order. She got our meals con plenty wrong and we had to wait for 40 mins for our food. Which again was wrong. the only saving grace was the manager that fixed our order and comped most of the food. I have had pretty great experiences at Montana's so far. I notice that everything they make seems to be fresh and made in house...they even have a smoker for crying out loud, but not fresh burgers! I talked to waiter about being undecided between a smoked brisket sandwich and the Canadian burger. He suggests that his favorite thing happened to be the Canadian burger. Knowing that most stuff is made in house and the kind of experience i've had so far, it didn't even cross my mind that it may be a saw-dust burger. I was beyond disappointed with what I received. A frozen patty heated up...maybe grilled, MAYBE, and a warm to almost on the cooler side baked potato. I hope Montana's really considers changing this or at least describing that its a pre-made burger, not "our juicy beef burger" as advertised. $15 + tax is a little steep when you receive a frozen piece of crap. Not to pick at the waiter, because he was a very nice man and maybe a little busy, but I had to ask for cutlery and someone else to refill my water. I will say this is definitely not standard of the service I usually receive. Everyone has an off night, but that's basic stuff. Been here three times and food has been cold, took forever, portions were very small and way overpriced. Staff seemed very busy and I would not recommend this to others. Was terribly disappointed each visit. One time i wanted beef ribs and the server talked me into all you can eat and failed to tell me they were pork ribs. How would I know that? Tuesday afternoon we drove just about an hour from Mahone Bay to Halifax looking for a steakhouse and came across Montana's. We stopped in and glad we did. The place was clean and the food was very good! Also the staff was very friendly! Alexa is a bar tender and waits the tables in the bar area as well. She was very friendly person. Ordered the poutine once and the sauce was disgusting, second time ordered the chicken burger and it was hard as a rock, like one of those frozen ones you buy at the grocery store. After eating here many times over the years, I just realized now that I had never reviewed it. I don't love chain restaurants in general, but find it okay here. Food is okay, service is okay. My most recent visit on a sunny Monday in May, I came with my parents for a mid-afternoon lunch. The place was mostly empty and service took a little long, which the server apologized for, but wasn't too bad. I tried the chicken tacos ("Two soft shell tacos packed with tender grilled chicken, cheese, crisp lettuce, red onions, diced tomatoes, crispy tortilla strips, fresh cilantro and lime juice, finished off with a drizzle of our KAPOW! sauce. Served with your choice of house salad, fries or chippers."). The tacos themselves were very flavorful, with a slight kick to the sauce. I found the chippers a bit bland, but my dad ate them and loved them. lol They shared the Surf n Turf appetizer (" mix of our famous KAPOW! shrimp, and your choice of steak bites or chicken dippers. Served with KAPOW! sauce for dipping - try other BBQ sauces at the table! What makes it KAPOW!? A combo of creamy garlic, tangy thai chili, fresh cilantro and lime juice.") and liked it well enough, but found it nothing exciting. Definitely enough for a meal for one person for lunch. I went some time ago for a dinner with friends. I made a reservation for 10-12 people. We were stuffed into a small room that had a table the same size as the room. When most of us were there we ordered appetizers, asking for them to come as ready and not wait for the others as we had someone that could not stay more than an hour &1/2. We got drinks and then waited an hour & 15 minutes before we received out appetizers. Don't order calamari unless you like black bull sauce on them. They do not have the seafood sauce 99.99% of all other resturants have. I ordered the all you can eat ribs. They purposely were so slow to get subsequent dishes I only had two plated in the two hours we stayed past the appetizers. Sme of the other dishes were not warm and we had to pass them around the table since the room was not big enough to allow a waitress to walk around the table. When we were done and trying to leave a busboy showed up, blocked the exit and proceeded to ask us to pass him the dishes. We were quite overtaxed on patients and words were said. That don't bear repeating. None of us will be going back, ever. read more

The waiters and waitresses are (usually) very friendly, there never is a long wait time.. the atmosphere is very relaxed. As for the food, usually delicious. I think I've only had one dish in the years that I've been going there that was not up to par - the waitress asked if we wanted to pack up our hardly touched meal and we said no, we didn't enjoy it. My partners nachos were burnt, and my pasta dish was basically all cheese. However, we understood.. but the waitress grabbed the manager who grilled us about why we didn't like it and gave us EXCUSES to why our food was like that. We ended up only paying for our drinks, but that damn manager angered me so much it took us a while to go back. Other than that, our food is usually delicious. They must have new cooks in the kitchen, and I've never run into that awful man again. read more

I was there Good Friday and I had the brisket burger. It was very tasty and I had a baked potato with it. We had a lovely private room with a big round table which was great. The service was fantistic and the waitress was wonderful. Her name was Jane and she was very friendly and had a wonderful personality and a beautiful smile. My fam and my parents headed to Montana's this past weekend to celebrate my DD's birthday - hubs, myself and my parents all ordered the same $17.99 sirloin special and we were all pleased with our meals - I have been to this place before and had steak and ha not received a good meal (steak was obviously pre-frozen) so this was a pleasant surprise to say the least. My DD had the kids pasta with cheese sauce and garlic bread and cleaned her plate. Only complaint is that my side of onion fritters were stone cold so the server promptly took them back to be re-heated. My DD got a kick out of wearing the antler hat as the staff sang Happy Birthday to her. Our server was also top notch and very attentive. Kept coming back to check on us regularly - a sign of a great server. All in all a very pleasant and affordable meal out for a family of 5. read more

This experince was one to remeber. It started off with the waitress bringing me a pepper corn steak and mashed when I ordered the porttebello mushroom with fries. I was told that they could take back my steak, scrap off the wrong sauce and put on the right one, SERIOUSLY. After waiting 15 minutes for my steak, it finallys comes out , mind you everthing is now cold and everyone else is done eating. To top it off my new steak was well done not medium rare. Well I had enough and asked for the manager, who is a woman with long dark hair and glasses about 30. The second she comes over she has an attitude. I explained to her what happen and was told " sometimes that happens as the sauces are next to each other". Well how does that explain the well done steak, I asked? She then said they could give me a gift card, which I said I didn't want as I will never go back. She then tells me that she doesn't know what I want from her with a serious attitude before she snatches the dirty plates off the table. My duaghter (who never says a word) says wow a manager should be able to take complaints and not act like she was. We were then told ( well she cried) that she didn't appreciate customers making her feel bad and she will bring my bill right over. So I didn't get to eat but they didn't bill me for my meal either. I would not take my dog here to eat and that manager should be fired. Who blames customers for bad services. I've been here 3 times... All 3. Never impressed. Waited for 20 minutes to be served drinks... At the bar and a good 45 minutes for food after we had to waive down someone to take it for us. And if you're wondering.... No. The place wasn't busy. . Would I go back on my own dime? Never. I felt as if I was ignored and I found the bartender was rude.... Sure she's entitled to a bad day.... We went here on my husband's birthday, we were excited to visit this place again. Our first experience was very good but I was disappointed on our second visit. We order the kiddie meal for our son and ribs with the side dishes for me and my husband. We waited to get a seat for like 20 minutes and the food was served after 30 minutes. We were so hungry and I understand that it was a busy time since it's around 6pm. The food was not as good as before, the ribs was not tender. The taste wasn't good as well, coleslaw left a bad taste in my mouth. Kiddie meals was not good we ordered this chicken fillet and fries and a macaroni. The sauce was very dry and no meat at all, it was a spoonful of tomato paste I guess. What we enjoyed in this visit was the corn muffin, that's all. Took our friends from Oz here as we thought the all you can eat ribs would be great for meat lovers. Disappointed doesn't come close. The ribs were awful, overcooked, dry , no meat. My fiance and I decided to check out the local Montana's last night and it was by far one of the best experiences I've ever had in a restaurant. The portions are enormous and the food is nothing less than exquisite! And the drinks? Woooooo don't even get me started; the daiquiri I had was made perfectly and the beer was chilled to a perfect temperature. It was a very classy place, very family oriented but still a good place to go if you want a romantic night out with your partner. The only thing that irritated me a little bit was that we had to wait about 30 minutes to be seated, but we were offered a free dessert (try the cheesecake, it was SO good) in return for putting up with the wait. When we finally got seated, the waitress was as sweet as could be, she had our drinks for us right away and came back frequently to make sure our meals were okay and that we were enjoying ourselves. The manager was also walking around interacting with the customers which I thought was a nice touch. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who asks, I mean, what more can you ask for than good food, good drinks and good service at an affordable price? It was definitely a great experience and we will definitely be repeat customers :) read more
