Had a pretty trash experience- came in on the weekend to ask for support to pix a pen cap that fell apart- the clerk was pretty cold toward me, and without even looking at what was wrong mentioned it would be $90 to send it out- for a pen cap? Aight. Would have been cool if they at least "went to the back" to attempt to fix it- my past life was in high-end retail, IYKYK. Anyway, left the store feeling exactly where I was walking in the store, almost threw the pen away- kept my cool, watched a vid, fixed it for free. I brought one of my best friends into our local Montblanc at South Coast Plaza to see my favorite rep, Corinne (Kun). My friend is a financial advisor and dropped in for some custom gifts for some clients who had so graciously referred him some new business prospects. Corinne was so informative of the specifics of each pen to ensure it was unique for each individual, with custom monogram etching personalization. I had an issue with a recent pen warranty issue and was allowed a discount on a new pen. After looking through all the amazing writing instruments from resin, to precious metals, I eventually decided to go with the Limited Edition Mickey Mouse Disney pen, as my wife and I both grew up in Anaheim, and are big Disney fans. I'll always remember in 2021 when I purchased this fabulous instrument while the magic kingdom was placed on pause for over a year. Tragic Kingdom. I was extremely impressed at how well Corinne vibed with my children. They were all smiles as they received their Mickey Stickers and we're delighted to sit atop the glass cabinets and gawk and the worlds finest writing instruments as she delicately showcased each brilliant piece of art. After almost an hour bathing in personalized luxury, crafted from the finest materials...we eventually fell back to Earth from our starwalker exploration. I recently received a Montblanc rollerball which I wanted to protect from scratches or perhaps worse. I've had Montblanc products for over ten years. My mission earlier today was to find a leather Pen Pouch so I walk into this South Coast location and was promptly greeted by a young lady who was already engaged with another Customer. So within 10 seconds James comes over to greet me and asked me "how may I assist you today" I already knew what I was looking for and asked James to point me in the right direction. I would say within five minutes I found the carry Pen Pouch I wanted for my Rollerball, it was the #14309 I was able to stay under the price range I was looking for and still get a quality product which Montblanc is known for. Every piece I own with the Montblanc logo has lasted many years with zero issues. While I was there James showed me several item's which I'll consider for upcoming birthdays and a college graduation. Last, I can't understand some of the not so favorable reviews, perhaps these folks were having a very bad day, who knows? I have been coming to this Boutique since 2017. I acquired my first Writers Edition Fountain Pen here. That I love!!! Actually, I remember the first one I got had an issue skipping. I came in and they didn't even question me and exchanged it on the spot. Just recently, this past Sunday. I acquired my first Starwalker Fine-liner/Roller-ball. From the moment I walked in Jordan made me feel at home. Best customer service I have received ever at any store in South Coast Plaza. He even went out of his way to show me what is coming for Montblanc in 2019. If you know anything about Montblanc, you know how secretive they are with their non-released pieces. Jordan showed me the 2019 Great Characters and the 2019 Writers Edition. He pulled out a few of their heavy-hitter pieces in the store and let me hold them and examine them up close. At no point did I feel like he was trying to upsell me. He just seen my love for Montblanc and wanted to share his knowledge with me. I was debating of purchasing the Starwalker, but due to Jordan and the crews GREAT customer service. I pulled the trigger on the purchase with no hesitation. I could of easily gotten the piece outside, but again, the customer service was worth every penny. To all the people on here complaining about returns. It is not the crews fault they cannot return your items. That is a known Refund Policy of all Montblanc Boutique's and the team should not have to take your heat for it. Also, because something is known, it should not have to be disclosed prior to your purchase. The clamp left marks on the pen the first time. They exchanged it for a new one to be engraved and it was messed up again with the same issue the second time. Granted, this store is located in a high-end mall, which has its own received image, right? The day I visited this particular store I was not anticipating to make a purchase right then and there because my intent was to learn more about Montblanc pens and to try them out in-person prior to buying one. What a bummer, though, to have a less-than-anticipated experience due to the customer service! All the pens were behind glass and unless you specifically asked to see a specific pen, they would not bother to demonstrate certain pens or share their characteristics. It was like pulling teeth to have a decent conversation with the sales person or to try out different types of pens. Customer service seemed forced and uncomfortable. If you are interested in high-end fountain pens, I would recommend a visit to other specialty stores, such as Flax Pen to Paper in Westwood, where they have way better rapport with their customers and have a wide range of writing utilities. I have had the fortune of getting a Skywalker midnight resin pen from Montblanc recently, and found this shop to be one of two southern California retailers set up by the manufacturer. You can find this shop near the Macy's on the second level. Having noted previous reviews, I came here after calling and got straight to business. I acted in a straight forward manner and let the gentleman at the shop, John Rodriguez, know I wished to have the pen engraved. He stated it would take two business days. After filling out the form, quickly picking out a font and the engraved contents, John took a look at the pen. He seemed to check if it was authentic, which was appreciated but not discussed. I asked one question about the material of the pen, having read it was not simply made of plastic. Pulling out his own Skywalker pen, he stated the pens contained glass to help keep the pens shiny among other things. He was very direct without any smiles or nonsense. He swooped in, despite a busy storefront, and took care of my transaction. I also purchased a pen refill for $9, as I wished for a fine ball point pen over the medium point. I wish the placement had been discussed, which is why I brought this experience down a star. Also the pen wasn't delivered as clean as it should have been. Nevertheless, it was quickly cleaned up by John. I'm surprised of his diligence. On my end the straight forward manner approach paid off. I appreciated it very much and would ask for him again, since many Yelpers seemed to be turned off by the sales persons here before. If I could give this a zero star, I would!!! I went in and asked the sales people if there was a money back return on this product and they said yes if it is within 20 days. I went in multiple of times and asked multiple sales people and they all said the same thing. My girlfriend brought me the pen as a birthday gift as a surprise and when I tried to return the pen, they said it is only an exchange. I had called within the 20 day grace period. Probably assuming we paid for the 1st pen and we may buy another.... joke's on them but it felt cool to be treated like a high roller. They didn't let me test drive the $33,000 Thomas Jefferson "petrified wood" pen though.... :( Guess my $25 sneakers and $20 jeans were the give away. I thought it would be just and pragmatic in calling attention to this business. Sure this is a high end store in a nice wing of a nice mall. Super nice toys there not just pens. With that, and to wit, there are two types of people, one who has bad day now and then & a liar. Simple point being these reviews in service probably don't point to a daily regimen at the Mont blanc store. I came for a writing instrument not an ass kissing. Now with that said. I was wearing a beanie, shorts, hands which were not 100% manicured as I had been inundated with work this day. Not exactly 'dapper'. Now the salesperson (Mercedes) pretty as a button, a nice woman who helped me was: courteous, attentive and even engraved the pen I purchased the same day herself as the engraver wouldn't be in the store in time to have it compete for a birthday. I visited the Montblanc in Costa Mesa as I waited for my rsvp at Nearby restaurant. I went before and after and purchased the UNICEF Rollerball version...$8xx.xx pen. Their service was semi-decent, they knew the story behind each pen. The reason for my bland review? As I was checking out, a friend of mine and his girlfriend had mentioned there was a promotion on their window for a large bottle of their cologne free when purchasing the writing instrument...so I asked about it, the response was TERRIBLE "oh, we don't have any, we ran out." ... .... ... which I could care less about it, I had the Starwalker in the passed and thought it was terrible but to me it was the principle of the matter. She didn't bother telling me about it, and when addressed it was nonchalantly dismissed! But wait... there's more! So as I completed the purchase although I was prettyannoyed, I noticed engraved versions which they offer, I asked... after all I don't mind paying for an engraving if it enhanced my new Montblanc. We went to the store before xmas... ww wanted a briefcase that the store could only find 2 in the whole company. One was the floor sample and one in a different country. We settled for the floor model. Except it had a scratch. They offered a 10% discount. So we decided to purchase anyway. The bag had a tag for $1500 so when the sales rep rang us, total was around $1200... I didn't calculate anything in my head and I just figured that's the price after discount. The next day, the salesperson called me saying he made a mistake in ringing and demanded a credit card. I told him, he made the mistake & I would gladly had paid but his customer service and the way he approached us was in appropriate. He said "I thought you were decent people and would pay us".., I told him, I would have. But I didn't appreciate his manner. Usually when stores make mistakes or items have the wrong tag, they honer what the price on the item. This was his mistake and they should have wrote it off... they had a stamp on final sale on my receipt saying no return or exchange.. when it's to their benefit, they wanted to return and repurchase the items.., that's just bad business. I'm going to write to corporate office and complain about the way the salesperson insulted me about being "decent" person. read more

After reading William T's review, I decided to chime in, as I think we got the same unlikeable salesperson. Like William T, I wanted the same item: a key fob. I knew exactly what I came in for... and had cash on hand. LIke William T, I was treated quite shabbily. Here's my experience: The salesgirl actually told me she didn't have any key fobs. Then, when she found one, the girl told me that the key fobs were no good anyway because they can't hold enough keys. Then, she said (quite voluntarily because I didn't ask for this service) that she wouldn't be able to order me one because they were doing inventory. Here's the main difference between William T's and my experience: I actually was dressed up to the nines; William was not. In Williams account, his sartorial shabbiness lead him to conclude that the girl was a snob. But since I was dressed quite well, I must simply conclude that perhaps the girl was not some sort of classist flunky but, quite simply, a douchebag. read more

You know, if someone comes into a South Coast Plaza "boutique" with the intention to spend money on a gift or a key fob or even just to look at the merchandise and they're not dressed to the nines or putting on a phony front of sophistication (a VERY O.C. thing to do in these coastal towns) it might not be a good idea to treat them like they were Julia Roberts in a Rodeo Drive shop (remember that movie?), and dismiss them with total air of snobbery or outright hostility. My friend told me after the fact that the woman on duty at this store was doing just that, and giving me a very condescending look when I wasn't looking, while I was looking at some watches. This was on June 5, Tuesday night at about 7pm. I wasn't aware that wearing tennis shoes and blue jeans warranted that. I'm not looking to be treated like a Segerstrom or even a cliché from Housewives of Orange County, nor am I out to EVER treat an employee in a store like this (or any other, for that matter) as if they are a serving wench either....but heck if I'm going to waste time or money in a place that has someone up front who acts like they're better than you when they're really just a sales clerk (not that there's anything wrong with that) who obviously can't afford what they're selling, and probably drives home in a Honda Civic (not that there's anything wrong with that either). read more

I walked into the store yesterday and I saw 3 associates chit chatting at the back of the store and I had expected the sales associate to approach me (since yes, we did make eye contact). I walked to the back of the store to ask for some assistance and I happened to get tossed around with "I'll be with you in a second' by this tall lady with a bun and some bushy hair dude. I wouldn't have been entirely bothered by this but the lady was extremely rude because she rolled her eyes at me. I don't know how they got their job at a high end boutique and I wouldn't expect them to be keeping their jobs for a long period of time. With their crappy service, they are butchering the Montblanc name and reputation. I would not recommend this location to any of my friends and if I could I would rate this location a -5. I've lived a long time, and my experience with this store (phone order shipped to Santa Barbara) goes down as the all time worst shopping experience ever. Ordered a pen by phone, order process was laborious, pen didn't arrive. Two days later I called, and had a ridiculous phone conversation with the guy that answered. As always, salespeople at these high name brand stores judge you by the way you look. But as I always say, "Honey, don't judge a book by its cover." I walked into the store, wearing some leggings, a long top and a cardigan with just a cellphone in my hand. (But ya'll didn't know my credit card was inside my phone case did ya?) So as I was saying, I entered the store and saw an associate helping a customer, so I thought, "okay cool, is the other guy sitting in the back going to come greet me and ask if I need any help?" Nope. No one came until I just decided to interrupt this guy who was helping the other customer to show me one of the pens I was getting for my friend, who is entering dental school. I ain't got no time to wait thirty minutes for the other associate to just relax and assume that I was only eye browsing because I am 90 percent sure they both thought I would leave empty handed. But no home boys, I walked out with a platinum classic Meisterstuck pen. BOOYA. Why do I have to dress to impress a sales associate when I'm the customer and I'm the one who's either going to buy or pass up on a product? Don't judge because in the end, sales associates only get a raise on commission and the amount they sell depends on how well they treat the customers. Don't get me wrong, I still love Montblanc I just think there's a problem with society, in which the people decide to treat others depending on physical appearance. As soon as i walked in, the staff looked at me then continued talking to one another. I guess they judged me since I'm young. I was looking at a couple watches when i was approached by a salesmen. He asked i had any questions, and i said "yeah, i am interested in a watch". He looks at me and says "oh yeah? what do you have now"? I show him my wrist and show him my "Bvlgari". His eyes widen's and immediately gets the keys to open the kiosk. After trying on a couple watches, i told him i will think about it, and i left. I don't appreciate how people judge at first glance...If the staff hadn't judged me and gave me this "awkward" feeling, i would've purchased a watch that day. Oh well... read more
