Montecito Veterinary Center took such good care of our dog Kevin. This vet reminded us of vets from back in the day which we really liked. That's hard to find these days. We've taken him there twice now and I can tell that they really care about animals. Sarina was very kind and friendly and Dr Diehl has such a kind and calm demeanor. Kevin normally is quite nervous being at the vet but when I brought him here he was laying down calmly on the vets table and when Dr Diehl came in he continued to lay calmly on the table. That impressed me. Dr Diehl did a great job on Kevin's teeth. He's recovering well and now has beautiful white teeth. Thank you very much for caring for my boy! read more

After over ten years I was suddenly dumped as a client without even the decency to provide a refill for my dogs heart medicine. Because a front office person has a power trip. It's ok, I should have left after the adenoma removal, and certainly after the brutal blood draw from his jugular vein coupled with the first appearance of ringworm ( not their fault, they say). I believe my elderly, house dog who only goes out to the yard just got a second ringworm infection there, and of course, they deny it. However they can't deny the results of a simple adenoma removal surger, or this swollen julgular vein from a chem panel draw. It got worse, not better, until the vet prescribed antibiotics. I've been a client at Montecito Vet center since 2001 ... Dr Patrick cared for my 2 Dachshunds & then in 2012 my Labrador, Oliver, who is now 13. Oliver has been seen by Dr Diehl for wellness checkups blood work & re-check over last 8 weeks. Over memorial weekend we ended up taking him to the ER VCA hospital because he wasn't eating (had weird poop). I tried calling Montecito vet center (they refer to themselves as a hospital on their website)...no one is available. My lab was diagnosed at the ER with colitis (inflamed colon)and given a variety of pain meds and probiotics. I phoned Montecito Tuesday morning & left message for Dr. Diehl & was told he'll be back in the office Thursday. Thursday I followed up & was told he has my message and will phone me that day. I called back at 5:45 pm and was told he left for the day.... Then I was told he had called me and left a message. I expressed that I had no missed calls & no message, the response was "I'm not going to argue with you" & I was told I needed to make an appointment to bring my dog in for an exam. I have a diagnosis from the ER VCA hospital visit.. & VCA emailed those records to Montecito VC. I don't need another exam. I've spent approx $1000 over the last 90ish days during wellness checks/bloodwork & then $1800. at the ER VET hospital on Memorial weekend...involving same symptoms I brought up during the recent vet appointments at Montecito. My lab has had this condition once in the past so I wanted to know how he had been treated. I was told they don't have past history records since they switched to electronic records a few years ago. Where are my pets health history records?? I'm so disappointed and frustrated. My lab is dying and I need to know how he was previously treated for this condition when Dr. Patrick was his vet, because the treatment worked. Turns out Dr Diehl doesn't work on Friday's so not reachable until sometime next week. What happened to the handwritten health records? The quality of care & compassion in my opinion has gone from a 10 to a 2, in this office. I'm a logical pet owner & have remained patient under stressful circumstances... but the service & support I've received from my veterinarian office of 25 years is disgraceful. This is not the Montecito Vet from years ago. For the past year (at least), any time I've needed them, they weren't there - either no appointments available for 30 days or just not answering their phone. Today I tried to get my dog in for a foxtail in her ear and was on hold for 35 minutes with no answer. I called from another line to make sure their phone wasn't acting up, but same thing-press 1 for emergencies then hold with no answer. While on hold with Montecito, I reached out on my 2nd line to another local vet who has never seen us before and they were able to get us in immediately-"Come to us now". Not VCA! A local, non-corporate vet. With drive time, I was home in 1 hour 20 minutes with fox tail removed. This finally made me realize how much better my dog deserves and I will never go back or refer anyone to Montecito Vet again. read more

Felt totally ripped off. Brought in my older cat who was limping, and needed an evaluation. Was told to leave her for the day and Dr. Ross would see her when he could. She had imaging under sedation, lab work and an anti-inflammatory injection- all appropriate. Cost :&1,250. Dr Ross apparently doesn't read x-rays ( even simple extremity films) but send them out to a veterinary radiologist. I was never able to speak with him. Per his staff " he doesn't call clients - he has the staff do that". And..... he was already gone when I arrived at 4 pm to pick out our cat. Does Dr. Ross have one foot out the door? read more

I've been bringing pets here for many years and have always appreciated the veterinary care. Since the change in ownership, though, I've noticed some areas where the service could be improved. On a recent visit, I was the only customer in the office. I stood at the desk for a while waiting for a prescription while staff were talking. When I finally asked for help, I was met with a lecture for interrupting instead of a simple acknowledgment. That left me feeling dismissed, which was disappointing. Also, the office won't call in my cat's insulin prescription to Costco, which means extra trips for me just to pick up paper scripts. Other vets I've worked with have been more flexible, and this policy adds stress to an already expensive treatment. Dr. Diehl is a skilled vet, and I'd love to see the office staff and policies reflect that same level of care. I would welcome a chance to talk with the owner about these concerns and would ask them to call me so that we could discuss further. read more

I used to really love this place. At some point, the customer service really took a nose dive. It's incredibly hard to get anyone to answer the phone, and it's been difficult getting a response on the text line as well. I also feel like they don't know anything about my dog when I go in, even though they've been her only vet, and they don't properly educate you on what to expect after having any sort of procedure done. Most recently, I got my dog's teeth cleaned. When I went to pick her up they literally tried to give me the wrong dog. I understand mistakes happen, but it was the final straw for me. My cat has had the same condition for years and suddenly we can't treat him until you return for an examination. Three months ago he was treated and suddenly it's a new condition that requires we return for a new examination. The emphasis used to be the animals came first and the money came second. I had an appointment for my dog with a vet tech on 7/11/25. Before I went in, I called & was assured I could get a refill on an eye antibiotic medication for a reoccurring (X2) eye infection. It presented the same as it had before. After Tilly had her vaccine, the vet tech came out and told me the female vet that was there refused to refill the prescription. She read the chart, but couldn't take 5 minutes to look at my dog. They had no appointments that day. So, I left the office with my dog & her untreated eye infection. No follow up call from them, nothing. I feel like it was all about the money. The place didn't appear busy. read more

Brought my cat for vaccine and was told needed cleaning and a mass removed. They told me I would get the quote within 24 hours. I called twice and they said they were working on it. Two weeks later, still haven't received anything. Now I am battling with them to get medical records send over to me so I can send to new vet. It's been a week and still nothing. Had to call them again and now waiting. This is no longer the same place it used to be, stay away from it, they obviously don't care that much. read more

He's not the easiest when it comes to being in the exam room, but Dr Diehl and the techs do their job very well while kindly adjusting to my dog being nervous. It has taken me a while to write this because of the recovery time needed from the pain and suffering involved. After 20 years with a Sonoma vet, I switched to Montecito Vet Ctr. for my Yorkie and my Biewer Terrier. I had 2 incidents that I feel need to share for anyone considering their "services". 1) just after a visit to a groomer, the Biewer was unable to open one eye. I was 1 block away from her vet -Montecito Vet Ctr-but they wouldn't see her for even a look until the next day, so overnight worry that she had something in her eye and another 1-3/4 hr r/t from Sonoma the next day, some eye drops were prescribed- thankfully her vision was not permanently impaired. But here is the literal killer. 2) The Biewer had long term kidney issues (which Montecito Vet Ctr had documented on record) and over one particular weekend in February 2025, I could see that she was suddenly & radically failing. I knew it was too late for anything but palliative care. I called Montecito Vet Ctr over the weekend and explained on voice mail that she was at the end, please help me make her comfortable. They didn't call me back at all until the following Wednesday! and left a voice mail saying their first appointment would be on Friday! Absolutely zero regard for her condition. She went to pet heaven with the very kind help of VCA East in Santa Rosa early in the week. I won't ever forget the callous treatment from the folks at Montecito Vet Ctr (especially reception) both times that my baby was in pain. Wish I could give ZERO star review . read more

I have been taking my pets here for over 20 years and I loved Dr. Patrick and Dr. Diehl. However, the current office staff is destroying this business. I have consistently been treated rudely by Fran, the office manager. After speaking to one of their staff this afternoon, they told me there was an opening today and to bring my dog in. She is a sheltie and shakes the whole time she is there. When I checked in with Fran and she looked at me like I was some kind of alien and said oh no that's for tomorrow we just sent you a text. I told her I didn't care what the text said. I just got off the phone with somebody. She insisted that I was wrong and she was right, but that they would try and squeeze Millie in although I would have to wait. Two months ago when I was there, I was placed in an exam room and left there for 35 minutes with a shaking dog. I hope the Vets find some competent office staff that will treat people with respect as well as their animals. When I was paying, I put my hand out to Fran and said "Hi Fran, my name is Shirlee and I have been going here for over 20 years with my pets." Again, a tremendously rude response, where she said we have hundreds of clients a week We cant remember everybody. Lack of transparency when it comes to policy and fees. Could not provide me with said policy however copy and pasted from a web article was insulting! **NEW & EXISTING CUSTOMERS BEWARE** My 3 animals have been patients of Dr. Patrick's for many years and he has always been wonderful and caring. Unfortunately, since he announced he'd be retiring and sold his practice they've had several policy changes that are concerning and can potentially put your pets health at risk. My cat has a thyroid issue that he's needed medication for for 2 years. This prescription has always been filled by Chewy's pharmacy with no issue. I submitted my refill order last week Tuesday after visiting the vet and they told me I needed to increase his dosage. I put in the request for a refill that day since that would only leave me with a 2 week supply of medication. I received an email 7 days later from Chewy telling me that my order has been blocked by my vet and I needed to contact them. I immediately called and spoke with a young woman who explained that they have changed their policy and would no longer be fulfilling 3rd party pharmacy orders. This was a complete surprise and I could not find any email with this info from them. Although this is an inconvenience, I was okay with getting meds from their new pharmacy and asked to get a refill. She then tells me that, "I'm sorry but we've been out of that medication for several weeks and can't fill your order". I asked if she'd make an exception and allow Chewy to refill since Charlie only had 2 weeks supply left and he'll get very sick if he doesn't get his regular dosage. She refused to verify Chewy's order via phone or fax (which they've always done) and I was forced to take off work to drive out there to physically pick up a hard copy prescription that I then had to send via certified mail to Chewy to fill. This took 2 hours out of my day that I didn't have since I was preparing to leave town for work. The fact that they wouldn't make an exception knowing they couldn't fill the medication is unbelievable. Now my cat will be without medication for at least a week before I'm able to get the refill from Chewy due to Montecito's inability to put the health and safety of an animal first and make an exception to their brand new policy. I immediately called Township Animal Hospital and have a new patient appointment with them next month. Very disappointed with Montecito Vet Clinic but excited to meet our new vet next month. read more

I wish I didn't have to write this review, but here I am. 8 months later, and my sweet baby has oronasal fistulas. The sore on the side of his lip that the vet ensured would go away after the surgery HAS NOT GONE AWAY! The holes where the extracted teeth were have not closed up, and it has caused another infection. He is still sneezing up mucus every day, he is still reverse sneezing, and his breath still stinks. I took him to a different vet for a check up in November and they took pictures of the unhealed fistulas and asked why did Montecito not stitch them up during the original surgery? Great question! What exactly did I pay $1,000+ for? Now I will need to make him undergo ANOTHER ANESTHETIC surgery (he's 10 years old, mind you) just to get him stitched up. Oh, and let's not forget the reply I got when I called Montecito to *politely* ask them what I should do to get this situation fixed? They basically threw their arms up and said they weren't sure why the fistulas didn't close up. The real question is, why didn't they just stitch them up so that my poor baby wouldn't have to risk having another surgery in the first place? I am just truly disappointed in the way they handled everything. I couldn't even get an apology. Take your dog elsewhere for dental procedures as they obviously don't mind cutting corners. read more

Dr. Patrick used to be my vet. He was wonderful with humans, as well with pets. This facility no longer has a "hometown" feel, nor is it run with a polite front office. You will wait AT LEAST 2 weeks to get your pet into a doc and their prices are now astronomical. I think that this awesome vet got swallowed up by a bigger corporation. I recently had my beloved male cat (8 years old) who collapsed in front of me and stopped breathing. As Montecito vet is close by (5 minutes) I immediately called them and they refused to treat him (it was 4:30 pm). I was forced to drive to UVA on Montecito Ave, giving him mouth-to-mouth along the way. Because it took too long to drive there, they were unable to revive him. This was the 2nd time in 3 years that during normal working hours I was in need of emergency vet services and they refused to help. I've brought my 12 Doberman pups for there tail crop and they did a very good job. I came in recently and had my French bulldog checked out after taking her to a different vet to get checked for a skin issue. Beth farhart is the one who helped me out gave her some antibiotics and a shot, she also recommended some dog food that my frenchie loves after a couple days I seen a huge change with her skin and fur. Honestly, this USED to be the best vet ever, but now that Dr. Patrick is barely there, it is not anywhere close to great. "Dr." Diehl is an uncaring, horrid twat. I've never seen any supposed vet handle a cat so roughly as he did mine (and I know I'm not the exception). They have too many clients. The waiting room and parking lot are ridiculously crowded. I had a surgery that cost $1,000 and they charged me $30 for a vet tech to spend 5 minutes to change my dogs bandage 3 days later. No, my dog didn't remove it. It was a scheduled follow up that I thought was free (it used to be). And now they won't call in a prescription to another pharmacy or respond to Chewys. Just hung up the phone after being told that they would not give me any indication of what a PennHip Xray would cost by their certified vet. WHAT A BUNCH OF B.CRAP. I was told I had to bring my dog in for a $105.00 exam but in no way shape or form would they even give me any idea at all what they would charge for a PennHip evaluation. PennHip is an X-ray where the animal is sedated with general anesthesia and if this place does this regularly, they know what it costs.
