Great quality food and service! They're always nice and respectful, and the food is really good if you like Tex Mex.

I've been coming here for over a decade now!! I noticed that they recently repainted and changed up the restaurant. Not sure if management changed? I usually get their fajitas, which is usually very consistent. I like the beef one and it comes with salad, rice, and beans. It's usually too big to finish so I get to take home some for later. Love that they give you free chips and salsa. We like their chimichangas but noticed they changed their beef one from steak to ground beef, which was a bit off putting. I wish they informed us of the change since it makes the flavor and texture so different. Both meals are around $12. Their pricing hasn't changed in years. I love one of their servers. He's an older man who is always so kind and attentive. Love seeing him every time we come. read more

I was worried when I saw the yelp reviews. So many low scores! I ordered the speedy Gonzales for lunch. Like a typical Mexican joint, the food came fast and was hot. Before new management the food was tolerable and worthy of the price for the amount of food received. Since the new mgmt arrived the only good thing is the new paint on the walls. The quality of the food has gone down and the prices have increased. First I noticed the queso dip recipe changed - its a lot more chunky and doesnt melt as easy and has a pasty taste. The chips and the quac have also gone down in quality. The last straw was the ground beef tacos. i ordered the ground beef tacos to go and the meat tasted over cooked, hard, old, and too salty. Not to mention I only received one small bag of chips and a small salsa for an order of 15 tacos. When I mentioned this to the host I was told it would cost extra for more chips and salsa. read more

4/08/2026, I placed a takeout order. I ordered a steak fajita for two, two steak tacos with rice and beans, and a small cheese dip. When I got home and opened the bags, I was in shock. My family and I used to come to this restaurant often, but this will probably be the LAST time they have my business. My husband and I noticed a tremendous reduction in size from our usual order. The chip bags and salsa were reduced by about 50% or less, and the prices have gone up. The steak was very tough to chew and had no fajita flavor whatsoever. They literally gave about three spoonfuls of rice and beans with the two steak tacos. Also, they only provide three options for gratuity: 18%, 25%, and 35%, which I found unreasonable given the quality and service. It was an awful experience. I made several attempts to speak with someone, but the calls went straight to voicemail every time. This restaurant is ripping customers off. Please do not go to this restaurant. The salsa was watery and had no seasoning , the beef taco was inedible I could not identify the meat I had to spit it out . And the frozen house margarita was a dollar an ounce ! And I could not taste any alcohol!! I WILL NEVER RETURN!! read more

Owners have changed. You can tell the management has changed with it. My favorite waitress is no longer there, which is a HUGE disappointment. If it's because of the snotty manager/wanna be waitress that was on duty, I don't blame her. The vibe has changed, and it even reflects in the food. Monterrey recently changed ownership. It had been one of my favorite Mexican restaurants for many years. I was afraid new owners would change too much and I would not like it as well. But we have eaten here after the change. The food is identical. Everything we had all tastes the same. The only real changes I saw were cosmetic. New art work on the walls. The TV's were powered off. Before the change the TV's were showing some age and the pictures were off color or slightly distorted. So the owners just turned them off. Note that some may be unhappy about. The prices have gone up. But it was not much. Some meals went up by maybe a dollar. To me that is not a drastic change. In this economy everything cost more. So not surprising that prices went up some. To me it is not something that would stop me from going back again. read more

Food was good but they tried to charge us extra for things we didn't order. We asked for a menu to check prices and they told us prices changed. We pointed out what we ordered and they said the computer pricing was different than the menu and refused to fix the bill. Not only has the food quality gone down, but a 1/2 pitcher of Margaritas was $14.95 the last time I visited which was less than a month ago, today they were $25.95. We have been coming here for 4 years and the staff have always been incredible! They always check on us promptly, provide great suggestions when we ask, and are so nice! Went here a couple weeks ago and received the worst customer service I've ever experienced in my life. I went with my best friend and our kids, there was 2 adults and 3 kids. They sat us in the middle of the restaurant and no one ever greeted us. After literally 25 minutes of sitting there I went to someone (I believe the manager) and asked if we can get service. He looked at me like I was an inconvenience to him and said yeah pointed to a guy and said he's coming. Okay so the guy came and he also acted as if we were an inconvenience. He gets our orders and then disappears, however, he is happily serving other guest. We wait another 10 minutes no drinks. I then walk into the back to pour my own as I am paying and I am thirsty that is the reason I went there. The manager again is back there and says I'm getting them and rolls his eyes as if I have no reason to be upset. Our food comes, and we never get a smile from anyone there and never get "how is everything". To my knowledge I am a guest at their establishment who is paying for services. I will never again give my money to those rude people and I'll be sure to let my circle of friends know to never give their money to people who treat their guest the way they treated me and my best friend. There are 6 other Mexican restaurants within that 5 mile radius who would gladly treat us better! They got a 1 start because I had to give a star to post the review. read more

***UPDATE. Came back again and once again never disappointed! Great food and super fast service. We have been here several times and have never had a bad experience. Just because it has a Mexican name, and Mexican employees it does not mean authentic Mexican food so please beware. Heres'a a hint if the serve hard-shell ground beef tacos run for your life. I ask for a stuffed "chile poblano" and they gave me a green bell pepper instead. Really? I lived 4 years in Mexico I can tell the difference. I was so upset... Overall food is mediocre, not coming back ever again. I also ordered the shrimp quesadilla and it was just okay, nothing special, no biggie. You can always tell when food is prepared with love. I have two very important words for you: shrimp quesadillas. I came here once many, many months ago and found it to be okay. It's pretty standard Mexican fare in a pretty standard Mexican restaurant. But I came back a few weeks ago and ordered a shrimp quesadilla and WOW. *Amazing!* I don't know where they get their shrimp from, but they are ginormous. Big ol' jumbo shrimp that are just perfect. Pile a whole heap of them with some queso in a toasty warm quesadilla, with some pico and guac on the side, and I am in quesadilla heaven. I never in a million years would have expected a regular-looking Mexican restaurant to have such good shrimp, or to be so generous with them, but wow, I am officially impressed. One quesadilla for $6.50 is plenty of a meal. This is where I go now when I have cravings for shrimp, which is a common occurrence. Mmm mmm mmm. :) read more

I wanted soup, and surprisingly, it's kinda hard to find! Monterrey is a smaller chain restaurant for decent Mexican, and they do in fact have chicken soup. I ordered a bowl to go of their soup ($6), and the soup is bowl busting full, with chicken breast, shredded, rice, avocado and pico. With my to go order, they happily packed in a bag full of chips and salsa for free, as well as a sliced lime to squeeze in your soup I've had their soup at other Monterrey locations, and loved the flavor, but this day, the flavor was a little watered down and bland. The salsa also was lacking in flavor, and really wasn't what I was expecting. The chips were warm and crunchy and service was super quick (less than 10 minutes to get my order) I hope this was just an off night for Monterrey because I have enjoyed them for years, but for now, it wasn't their best moment. read more

The foood was good but could have been better. I ordered a faijtia quesadilla and was a bit annoyed with how large the chicken chunks were. Not the biggest issue but I was annoyed because the chunks would make the quesadilla fall apart. We came in around opening so I understand that our food might take a bit longer to get but tables that arrived after we did had their food first. I'll have to try them out another time! First time I came here, I was PISSED. We were trying to go to a different Mexican resto down the street but they were closed. I grudgingly went inside and tried the food and margarita...was not impressed. I was dragged here again last week and was VERY impressed with the chimichanga! I did not order a meal so I basically ate 3/4 of my SO's food like a greedy pig! The margarita was too strong and undrinkable and it all made sense when the waitress said she made them! LOL. I admit it. I really only have one reason for visiting tex mex restaurants: queso dip. Yep. And that's what I usually end up rating them on. It turns out that queso dip ends up being a pretty accurate predictor of the overall quality of the food. Melted Velveeta? Get ready for greasy gastro-distress. Double boiled white queso...with jalapeños? Expect a solid meal. Stretchy melted queso with the chorizo crumble? You're in for some gooooood Mexican. Monterrey has the second one. Quite tasty! The enchiladas were pretty decent for tex-mex....I'd say a solid three stars. But as nearly all others have said, the service sucks a$$. The host leisurely finished his PERSONAL phone conversation before seating me....either not thinking or caring whether I spoke Spanish and understood what he was saying. And he acted like he was doing me a favor. 1-star penalty for the defense. read more
