I wanted to love this place so bad because they were open late at a time when I needed Mexican food real bad but I was slightly disappointed. My drink order was wrong, salt on the rim even though I asked for a plain margarita with no salt, no sugar. Once a drink order is wrong, that pretty much ruins the whole meal for me. The birria tacos were good, but didn't have a lot of meat. I expected more when they cost $16 for 3. Food was plated sloppy. Ordered Arnold palmer and the cup was dirty. Also got an enchilada/taco combo and it was a lot of food. Probably the best part of the meal. Maybe I would return out of desperation but won't be my first choice. read more

I've been disappointed too many times now that I am finally giving this restaurant a bad review. Their tamales are the worst - tiny, undercooked, we constantly get terrible tamales when we order take out. My son really wanted tamales so I ordered take out again. I was charged double - they are now $12.95 for 3. I wouldn't complain if they were a decent normal size, but I've had it. I will never go to this restaurant again. Found many other delicious Mexican restaurants in Monroe. Don't waste your time & money on this place. Manager is rude as well. He doesn't care if you complain about anything. read more

I typically love this restaurant. My family & I go often and we've never had an issue. Tonight we went and had terrible service. Our server was not attentive, he spilled food on one of my family members when placing the plate down. I was mid conversation and he came to the table and interrupted me mid sentence to take our order. We had 6 people exactly and a baby. He counted the baby as a 7th person and added automatic gratuity... Seriously? Absolutely ridiculous. Will not be coming back to this restaurant. read more

This restaurant was up to my standards. I loved the lighting and dining area. The waitress and staff were very attentive and looked out for us by asking how everything was going and were extremely friendly. I have the taco salad. It is amazing. It was fresh hot. It had so much flavor way more than enough serving for one person.

Monterrey in Monroe has been a favorite for my family for several years. We have gotten a variety of dishes from them, but tend to stick to our favorites. My mom, sister, and I all love the Monterrey cheesesteak burrito, which is filled with steak and grilled onions and peppers and smothered in cheese. My dad always gets the enchiladas and my brother tends to get taquitos. I did try the steak fajitas this time which also met my expectations. The portions are always huge and combined with the complimentary chips and salsa, we always all have leftovers. One of the best Mexican restaurants in Union county for sure! read more

I've not given 5 stars this summer 'til now. Nothing was wrong - everything right. The chips were thin, the salsa was not too spicy, the guacamole was perfect to me, (I lived in Texas 8 years) but my son said it was a little too spicy. I notice he ate it anyway. He had a chicken dish and could not finish it. he is 6'3" and usually finishes every scrap. My nachos with shrimp was off the charts good. They were bathed in a slightly spicy cheese sauce; the shrimp were pan friend not boiled which improved the flavor. My son had a beer, on draft and I had half and half tea. Service was seamless even though there were many diners. The parking lot is large enough. The air conditioning was not too cool. I can't imagine why this place is not lauded more! read more

This is one of the best Mexican places I've ever ate at! We walked in and were seated in a timely manner. The food came out FAST! the salsa was great and no too spicy, cheese dip too! I got the steak burrito it was the best one I've ever had. The salad with guacamole and pico was delish & the rice was really good too! The waiter was really nice and tended to us really well. I don't know if it's the crowds or supply chain issues or both and more, but Monterrey just isn't as good as it used to be. The beef in my enchilada and burrito was minimal and dry. The sauces were skimpy and not very flavorful. The cheese was bland and didn't melt. On the other hand, the chips were fresh and tasty, as was the salsa. Needed a drink (or 3) after meeting my boyfriends family, so we stopped in for margs. We ended up taking a look at the menu and getting food to go along with our drinks. I was not disappointed! I was most impressed by the selection on the menu. There was so much to choose from (there are 5 different cheese dips) It was great! The food came out fast and our waiter was super friendly and on point with his service. The food here isn't the most authentic that I have as but it's pretty dang close. The atmosphere is great and there's plenty of seating and room. Although we've been here numerous times and this is my husbands favorite Mexican restaurant, this is actually my first review of it. They have wonderful food, great staff, and each time that we've been here, the service has been very good and their margaritas have been great. They only give you one option of salsa when you're seated. It's a standard salsa - not spicy at all but it's actually pretty tasty. Their chips are a little thicker than I prefer and are still good - I actually prefer and LOVE thinner chips like the ones that Chili's offers. My favorite combination platter is #17- one chile relleno, one taco, and one chalupa. As for decor, it's very neat and clean and they have a beautiful bar! read more

This is my favorite of the non-chain Mexican restaurants in Monroe. I'm not generally a huge fan of NC mex (way too much weird cheese sauce thing for this westerner) but they go a little lighter on it and you get more flavor from the food. The offer an actual vegetarian menu, for us dirty hippies, and a huge meat-filled menu for everyone else. Some dishes even incorporate bacon, which confused me but thrilled my partner! Their salsa is just the right amount of flavor and heat and they keep it coming. I don't need 6 kinds, if two are delicious! I have always had good service and the manager is always friendly and welcoming. I mentioned it was my first visit a few trips back and he offered a complimentary sample of their cheese dip, which I found to be a nice touch. It's hard to recommend one dish because I like many but their shrimp quesadilla is a winner and I'm told their chicken with bacon (forgot the name) is FANTASTIC. If you aren't sure what to order, get a margarita and nachos...you can't lose with that combo! read more

If you have never had real Mexican food then this place is ok. If you know what real Mexican food is then stay away. It was horrible. The only reason I gave it 3 stars was for the service. If you want much better Mexican food go to Pageland. There is one there that is fantastic. read more
