I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was extremely disappointing. My friends and I visited this restaurant to celebrate a very important milestone in one of our lives. We arrived around 6:58 PM and were seated promptly. Unfortunately, everything went downhill from there. It took approximately 45 minutes before our order was even taken. During an earlier attempt to place our order, our server stopped in the middle of assisting us and stated, "Oh wait, I need to go give this other table their beers first." Throughout the evening, it was difficult to find our server whenever we needed anything. To make matters more frustrating, my partner and I only ordered guacamole and queso, items that are typically considered appetizers and generally do not require a lengthy preparation time. Despite this, our order still never arrived, even while the other members of our party had ordered full meals. After waiting nearly an hour, we decided we no longer wished to remain at the restaurant. It is important to note that the restaurant was not particularly busy at the time, although staff appeared to be beginning closing procedures on one side of the restaurant despite us arriving well before closing. I requested to speak with a manager. After explaining our concerns, his response was simply, "Do you want me to check on the food?" By that point, I was traveling and no longer had additional time to wait, so I informed him that we would just like to leave. What was most disappointing was that the manager never returned to speak with us afterward. Instead, our server came back and handed us a check for our drinks and queso, which we paid without issue. Additionally, shortly after we received the complimentary chips and salsa, the server asked whether we were actually going to order anything, which came across as though she assumed we had only come in for free chips and salsa. As someone who has spent more than 10 years in management and currently serves in a director-level position in healthcare, I understand that delays can happen. However, communication, professionalism, and managerial accountability are essential. The lack of follow-up and concern shown during this experience was unacceptable. As people of color dining in this establishment, the experience unfortunately left us questioning whether race may have played a role in how we were treated. I cannot say that definitively, but it certainly contributed to how uncomfortable and unwelcome we felt. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience and one that should prompt management to evaluate both service standards and how concerns from guests are addressed. read more

We ordered drinks, carnitas, and veggie fajitas. They have non-alcoholic Corona! The fajita veggies included zucchini and yellow squash, red onion and bell peppers. They were grilled to perfection. The beans and rice were delicious and a generous portion even though it was the lunch menu. Husband raved about his carnitas. Our two servers were very helpful and got our order perfectly. I usually prefer the smaller Mexican restaurants that are family owned but I went with my family to Monterrey in North Augusta. The parking lot was full and I anticipated a wait, but that place is Big! We were seated immediately with the usual chips and sauce. The chips weren't as tasty as other restaurants but the sauce was good and not too spicy. Cheese sauce was ordered and was good. There are a lot of servers in the restaurant and it was very busy. My family members ordered margaritas but I stayed with water. It didn't take long before my order of burrito supreme and a single taco was delivered. The plates were hot, which I appreciated since I don't like cooled food. My burrito was tasty as was the side (rice and beans) but the burrito was very moist, almost watery. It was a large serving and I was pretty full but tried the crisp taco and it was the worst taco I've ever had. And I've had Taco Bell. How a place with that good burrito turned out that dry, dry taco with minimal flavor, I don't understand. The restaurant itself was very nice and effort was made to decorate for fall and the only music I heard was the staff singing happy birthday to someone. The restroom was standard but clean. I had to tell the hostess that the first stall was without paper but that happens. There is a full bar there and that was one of the reasons we chose Monterrey because my family wanted margaritas . They will have to write their own review. I do not anticipate going back because I did not think their food was as good as it should have been. Perhaps because it was so busy. The bill for 3 dinners and 2 margaritas was over $70 (without tip) and I would prefer to spend my money in a smaller family-operated environment with perhaps more attention to detail. read more

After I was seated I invited my sister and again assumed it would order and it would arrive after my sister. My food was prepared and delivered before my sister arrived. They also made her food quickly, so we were able to eat together. Everything was good and hot. The restaurant is very clean and can accommodate large groups. We sat adjacent from a large group and they had plenty of space at the large dining table. The staff was nice and check back often.
