The answer was Yes, one can change into swimsuits during lunch before the black sand beach visit and then change out of them at a stop after the waterfall stop to be dry for the ride back to the hotels. A few days before our tour I received an email confirmation that included other useful information, such as bring along swimwear, towels, water shoes and a light jacket for the air conditioned van. I had not considered the A/C and I'm always cold, so that is a very welcome heads-up. On the day of our tour we received texts that the driver was on his way. Pretty close to the scheduled meeting time the van pulled up to our resort. The van was spacious with huge windows. Our tour was full with all 12 passenger seats occupied. Our driver/guide was Travis. He was born and raised in Hana and was a wealth of knowledge about Hana, Maui, and Hawaii. He seemed to be related to all the locals he passed on the road. There was not dull moment. Among the stops along the way were Maui Tropical Plantation for breakfast, Auntie Sandy's Banana Bread stand for those that wished to purchase, Wai'anapanapa State Park (black sand beach, also with a lava tube and a blow hole), Pua'a Ka'a State Wayside Park (usually calm enough to swim but the falls were roaring due to rain earlier in the day), and Ho'okipa Beach with turtles on the beach. Travis was an excellent driver and guide. We got great value from the cost of the excursion. One minor thing did bother us. We are Jewish and were uncomfortable during the praising Jesus sing-along. Regardless, we recommend this tour and especially Travis as a guide.

Really 3.5 starts but rounded up. This was our second year flying from Oahu to do a staycation…read morehere. It is a nice and large resort. We really appreciate the kamaaina rate and amenities. We stayed in the palace Tower again this year and noticed quite an improvement in the rooms since last year. They were remodeled and were definitely much nicer. We really enjoy the pools, especially the one closest to the Palace tower. The only disappointing thing this year was that the bigger slide wasn't open the entire week. We were only there Sunday through Wednesday and found out the slide wasn't open Monday through Wednesday. Last year it was open every day. My nephew was definitely disappointed as the slides in the pools are the reason that he likes this resort and why we come. We also prefer the smaler pool. There are several restaurants on the property but as is usual for resorts the prices are exorbitant, especially for what you get. Most every meal we ate off the property. Drinks were very expensive at the pools too. Food and drinks being more reasonable and the slide at the smaller pool being open the entire week would have brought this rating very close to five stars. It's definitely a nice resort but some changes would make it even better. I think next year we're going to try somewhere else.

Pros: Pools are clean. Landscaping beautiful. View exceptional. Plenty of parking…read more Cons: A lot of kids running down the halls screaming. Teens loitering in the halls, knocking on doors. $20 daiquiris. Very few vegetarian options. Older man vomiting by pool who clearly needed help but no staff anywhere. Need more signage to get from parking lot to room.
