The staff is very sweet, cute place too. Ordered a strawberry mango lemonade which was not sweet at all, all natural. I ordered a BLTA (bacon, lettuce, tomato, and avocado) on wheat bread. It was good but nothing special. A little disappointed in the size of the sandwich, on the small size. Would not order again unfortunately. I paid $18.33 total for these two things. Over priced in my opinion. I would like to try other things though, maybe next time get a different sandwich with another kind of bread? Size matters lol read more

Montse's Cafe is an obscure, cute hidden gem. The friendliest, most patient service. Honestly really made my day, I was running really late and stressed out and STARVING and I had ordered from them for pick up and was racing against the clock to get there before they closed. I felt so insanely bad that I got there right at closing time but they were still so nice to me, no complaints or bad attitude, and reassured me it was okay. I even forgot that I wanted my latte iced and said it was okay if he could just pour the latte into a cup of ice for me but he remade another one without any protest!! He really was so kind. The cafe is super cute and clean. For only $10.50 the Blue Salad is so worth it!!! Glad I got to discover this quaint cafe! read more

Sometimes I work in West Oakland. There was a lot of hype with how close and convenient and yummy this place was, so I gave it a go. First, I had to post a pic of an updated menu (all of you are SO welcome btw). Prices are a little more expensive than what those old menus say. Coming from SF, these are normal prices. However, my colleagues think this place is fairly expensive. (Orange/yellow flag #1). I try it out. My colleague (also his first time), heard great things about the Montse sando. He gets that. I get a veggie wrap. My colleague isn't enthused by the sando. Looking at it, I kind of expected better bread quality? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The wrap, however, was waaaaaaaaay too juicy. It was maybe the messiest wrap I've ever had in my life. Napkins galore. You don't really want that in a wrap. Ever. That aside, the flavors were pretty good. They didn't skimp on the feta, so that's a definite plus. Were thy worth the price? Probably not. Would I go back? Probably. Would I get the same thing? Hell no. I hear the salads are pretty good... This is a cute little cafe tucked away in a warehouse?/ business? Building. There is a lot of parking but not a ton of empty spaces when I visited. Regardless of the surrounding area, I got a well made breakfast burrito quickly and for a good price. The owner was working the desk and was friendly. I dinged one star because there isn't a lot of seating and it's not the nicest seating area. It's sufficient but I decided to take my burrito home rather than eat there. read more

Because Montse's Cafe is in the building I work in, I have had the opportunity to eat here lots of times. What started out as a convenience has become my first choice for work day foods! I just finished eating a Pan de Mie with avocado, tomato, red onion, turkey, a special sauce and a perfectly cooked egg. It is is so satisfying. But be forewarned, it is only available until 11am but it is so worth it! There is something for everyone on the menu not to mention their daily special which is always healthy and hardy. But I need to make a special shout out for the pastrami sandwich. It is one I will eat again very soon... read more

This place is tucked inside of the business building in an industrial neighborhood, so if you're looking for it, just park anywhere on the street if you can find parking. The ingredients are savory & healthy. The price isn't cheap, but no healthy food is cheap. I would come here more often since it's nearby my place of current employment but it's a little pricey and I called in for a hot eggplant sandwich & they told me 25 min wait lol my lunch is only 30 mins. =\ They need to update the pricing on Yelp too. The sandwiches start off at $10+tax. And need to put more eggplant in the sandwich.. still tasted great though. I would come back to try other sandwiches. This place is a little hidden piece of gem. Hidden, might even be a semi humble way of describing this place. Sites of trucks with shipping containers speeding in and out of the Port of Oakland, the the aroma from Svenhard's Swedish Bakery's Warehouse (those rather ubiquitous danishes and pastries found in grocery stores), and the office in which I work at pretty much defines the intersection of Third and Adeline. Places for lunch are difficult to come across, and lets not try to begin thinking of not having to drive to food. I didn't realized how difficult it was to find food until the other day when I forgot to bring my lunch (purposely didn't pack), and did not have any cash for the food truck parked near Filbert and Third. That's when I started researching and found Montse's. In a million years, I would not have thought that there would be a cafe tucked inside the sea of warehouses. I drove pass it the first time, thinking that it might have closed and yelp had lied. I pulled out my phone and searched to find the address, turns out there the storefront of Montse's Cafe is inside the building, pass the vestibule. Enough babbling about the location, lets get the list going: Ambiance: Great. Service is nice, and the crowd is friendly. I actually met someone new. Food: Flavored nicely, they have a wide selection of sandwiches and salads. The menu on the wall might be intimidating because some of the names of the sandwiches are not self explanatory. The staff here is very friendly. We stopped here because of the good reviews and want really impressed. The interior decor is nice and it was fairly busy around lunch. The menu was straightforward and has lots of options to choose from. The pastrami sandwich really wasn't that good. They put jalapeños, mushrooms and slaw on it which in my opinion really ruined the sandwich. The meat also was just so-so. We also ordered a Apple salad with chicken. The salad was fairly good. Fresh ingredients and a healthy portion size. All in all, I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again. It was fine, but nothing to write home about. read more

I've been working around the Oakland area for almost 10 years now, and as nice as it is, going to the same food spots all the time (mainly fast food) was annoying. My coworker and I decided we needed to eat healthier and started looking up other food places that weren't easy to find. I decided to check YELP (since my sister raves about her experiences with the app) to see what other food spots were in the area that may fit the bill. With a plethora of great reviews and stars, I found this gem, that happens to literally be about 3 blocks away from our job!! I couldn't believe it! After reading the reviews, I knew I had to try the place, so my coworker and I went, got ourselves some sandwiches, and the rest is history! To this day, I use this place for personal lunches, management lunch orders and guest lunch orders at my job, and I still grab something almost once a week, even if it's just one of the delicious Agua Fresca's!! Both the look of the lobby and the prices have changed several times since I started eating here, but the food is just as delicious as it was when I found out about it 6 years ago! Got the Montse Chicken sandwich which has got avocado, bacon, melted cheese, chicken breast and more. The place is small and the hours are limited to the average office lunch rush (it closed at 3:30 on the Thursday I made it there) but the staff is welcoming, the offerings diverse (pitas, wraps, salads, omelettes and hot/cold sandwiches along with all the coffee drinks you'd expect) and the food is surprisingly good quality. So I usually come to this establishment at least 1x per week and the food is great but the service is what I take issue with. The woman (who doesn't work Fridays fyi) has a terrible attitude and it shows in many customer interactions. I've noticed her being curt and disingenuous and today was the same. I order an omelette and attempt to pay with my amex (which I've used here over 10 times with no issue and no report of "we don't accept amex") and was informed today of this policy. When I inquired further, she says "this is what I've been instructed"- when I asked by whom and showed her details of my purchase last week issuing the sane card they denied today, her response was "I don't know who informed me" I'm shocked! This is a simple matter that could've been clarified but because of the attendants standoffish posturing and lack of communication, they're losing a good customer.
