I was in the area today and decided to stop by this café to grab a drink and a pastry while checking emails for about 20 minutes. The location was nice and fortunately there was plenty of free, non-metered parking available. When you walk in, the pastries are displayed at the entrance, with the menu mounted above them. I didn't notice the menu at first--maybe I'm just too short lol . The pastry selection looked fresh and delicious, and I spent a few seconds looking at the pastries to decide what I wanted. Unfortunately, the cashier seemed very impatient and quickly directed me to the register before I had a chance to finish looking at either the pastries or the menu. There wasn't anyone waiting behind me, so I was disappointed to feel rushed. Wanting to be an easygoing customer, I moved to the register even though I still hadn't decided what to order. From the register, all I could see was one a menu listing various juices. I wrongfully assumed they were freshly made because they were listed on the menu rather than displayed in a grab-and-go refrigerator or shelf like a standard coffee shop. Instead, I received a small 8-ounce bottled juice from a local producer, which was perfectly fine but if I had an opportunity to view the menu before ordering, I would have realized there were many more options, including specialty coffee drinks, matcha , smoothies?, and other beverages that I would have much rather chosen. I ended up ordering the green onion and potato frittata along with the bottled juice. I had originally planned to stay and work for a bit, but the seating was limited and the non-friendly atmosphere just wasn't for me, so I headed to my car to check e-mails. The frittata was good, and I appreciated that the lady warmed it up for me. It was somewhat enjoyable but could have used a bit more seasoning or flavor. The $7.00 8oz beverage was delicious so I drank it in about 10 seconds. I wish they carried larger size amounts at least because I was actually pretty thirsty. As for the atmosphere, it simply wasn't my cup of tea. My personal impression was that the café had a fairly homogeneous crowd, and I didn't feel particularly welcomed or comfortable. Others may have a completely different experience, but it just wasn't for me. The vibe was very much "I hella love Oakland but I only reside, spend money and visit the white communities of Oakland." Overall, the frittata was Good but lacking in flavour, the parking was convenient, but I wish I had been given a little time to browse the menu before ordering because their beverages look delicious. I know a good creamy Matcha color when I see one! My Matcha - regular with almond milk and a little bit of agave was excellent. The size is a little smaller than I'd like but maybe that's what makes it so good - the perfect amount of ingredients for the size that it is. The person who took my order was also very sweet. I'll occasionally grab a bag of beans or two as well, as a strict 3rd wave coffee snob, I'm happy to have a consistent supply of fresh light roasted beans nearby. I don't ALWAYS buy zingy fruit forward Ethiopian beans for my home supply, but it's nice to know they're there. That said, since I trust their light roasts, I'm willing to try and enjoy their medium to dark roasts as well. Full bodied, without the charcoal note certain 2nd wave coffee chains turned union busting megacorps can't shake. It took an embarrassingly long time for my aging alternative rock addled millennial brain to realize their Dark Sails roast is an AFI reference, both in name and color scheme. I got an espresso and an oat milk macchiato. The espresso was a dark roast, which I really appreciated because most shops that roast in the area do light to medium roast. The result was a full bodied, creamy and layers shot with light acidity balanced with and mild sweetness / notes of fruit. 4/5 Oat milk complemented the espresso well in the macchiato. I had the pineapple upside down cake today and loved it. It hit the nostalgic spot from my childhood. It was well done. The whipped cream in the center and maybe the last 25% of it was where I started losing enjoyment so would be a great dessert to share with someone else since it's a lot of sweetness for just one. I also tried the iced strawberry matcha latte today and it's a nice change of pace but sadly both the regular matcha latte, hot or cold, and this don't make my list of top places to get matcha in Oakland or the Bay Area. If I'm coming to Timeless, I'm coming for the pastries, baked goods, and food, over the drinks personally. After reading a few other reviews about this place I know it's not just me. While I like some of their products, the customer service is definitely off especially from the standpoint of exhibiting micro aggressions. For example, in many of my times going there, I've noticed that upon approaching the counter the staff typically have ignored me and continue on talking to each other as well as even giving me glances yet not doing anything. After waiting for some time they then approach. With that, there's one particular man there who purposely would place my purchased item on the counter despite the fact that my hand was clearly reached out to retrieve it from him. He also gives me an awkward look whenever he does this. It's interesting to me as these same ones have the aesthetic of being "open minded/cultured" and "liberal" yet on the inside they're nothing more than covert bigots (likely transplants from some bumpkin states and towns). My thing is if you don't like dealing with certain demographics of people then Oakland is clearly not for you. Try Dixon or Yuba City or some place like that where you can embrace that special brand of hatred. Wearing doc martens, tattoos, hipster haircuts, and piercings instead of a pillow case on one's head doesn't hide their bigotry. The costume isn't fooling anyone. It doesn't fit here in Oakland. My husband (coffee snob) loves this place. We have been to both locations and came here so I could work on my novel while he takes photos nearby but as a not coffee drinker my $7 matcha was a flop. The seats are uncomfortable, though the space is nice. There is also no WiFi. Luckily I don't *need* WiFi to work but I just wish places shared candidly when they don't have WiFi bc I feel many people do come to cafes to work. I saw that they are offering a limited time drink, the pistachio cream latte, so decided to give it a try. It was $7 before tip, which I feel is very expensive relative to the quantity. The drink wa ready within a few minutes. It tastes more sweet like pistachio ice cream or gelato flavor, not so much like raw pistachios. I did like it, and thought it was nice that it didn't just taste like coffee (i.e. they actually did flavor it well). The only reason I am taking off a star is because I still find it too pricey relative to quantity. My wife loves Timeless. I appreciate how they have multiple locations now but note that this location may not have what you're looking for. Been here multiple times and they never have Twinkies. So those are hit and miss ! First time trying the Samoa donut, and it does not taste like a donut whatsoever! Tasted like a chocolate cake with coconut flakes and chocolate drizzled on top. The texture also crumbles like a cake so you can't hold it like a donut to eat. A favorite to add to my running list of go-to coffee shops. Lots of natural lighting, great atmosphere, and overall good vibes with good coffee. They have a vast selection of pastries for breakfast and for a quick snack, which I have yet to try. I also can't wait to try more of the other drinks on their menu! My favorites are their iced timeless (vanilla cold brew) and matcha latte. Both really hit the spot to start my morning or for an afternoon pick-me-up if I need the extra energy. They replaced the French bakery Miette but offers much of the charm and appeal that the predecessors had in their own vibe. My taste buds highly value their espresso and drink menu. As others have mentioned, it may be the best coffee around the area. I also enjoy that they do not have added sugar in their Matcha mix, which is the traditional way to enjoy the Matcha lattes. Adjust sweetness to your liking with the little counter with sugar tubes. They also have a large selection of different pastries and treats. My favorite would have to be the savory pastries that they offer. With such a large selection, I need to return back to try the rest of their items. When it comes to sweets, I have tried their Black Magic Cake. It was strangely not moist but not exactly dry. The chocolate had a bit more cocoa than I preferred but wasn't rich. Not entire the biggest fan of it. I do, however; appreciate that they have slices of all their cake options, so you can sample before committing to an entire cake (like for an event). I really love timeless and have been a customer for several years now. Unfortunately after they opened multiple locations I have definitely noticed a dip in the quality- which is a common occurrence in situations like these. I wish they would have at least stuck with their old grab-and-go sandwiches, because these new ones are such a downgrade!!! This new "hoagie bread" is so so bad, it lacks flavor and texture, and the sandwiches are always sooo soggy now.
