Stay away from Marty and this company. If you want the job done right with accountability, transparency and communication, go with different company. Our job was simple: move out our furniture into our home garage, basement and bathrooms for us to do the flooring of our home. Marty jumped on the assessment, came quickly and estimated the cost of 3 hrs. After that, he was out of reach. I left him multiple messages about the contract for example to clarify some things and he never called me back. His appointment manager did everything possible to reach him and then she would give me a call back with information. It was just a weird red flag about this company. We didn't pay anything yet but I can't even confirm how it works. He doesn't call at all. Why? No idea. So it happened and we had some damage accidentally during the move out. Minor but kept us vigilant and uneasy about dealing with Marty. Again, I left multiple messages to get clarity on how damages are handled and nothing. The assistant refused to engage in the subject telling me that she doesn't handle contract details. Ok..... they just replaced the rolling leg on the cabinet drawers they broke to appease and it didn't even fit... Fast forward to move (back) in. Massive water damage due to Marty's guys storing things improperly in the tub and not making sure the faucet is securely off. It turned out, it was dripping for a whole week and everything in the tub was soaking wet (name brand purses in luggages, clothing, towels, comforters, pillows...) and moldy. The guys admitted they shouldn't have used the tub at all for storage. It was a bad idea. In all of this, I asked Marty to call me back and I sent him pictures of all the new found damage as we unboxed everything fully (3 days after the move in) and he wouldn't call back. Brushes the whole thing off as if it is not their fault. They reimbursed only a fraction of the cost and ignore every request to contact us. It's very frustrating. Massive losses that can easily add up to more $1500 not to mention the headache of dealing with all the wet contents of the luggage and pillows with moldy smell. I can't unrecommend Marty enough. Please stay away and get a better communicating guy who cares about his client and communicates better. read more

They set up an appointment to first review the content that needed moving, but then Fritz never showed up. I called and left a message and Fritz called me back hours later with excuses but essentially took the blame. We rescheduled for today, but Fritz never showed up or even called. We left another message and they haven't called us back. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I will never use them, and never recommend them to anyone. I just completed a move with TJ, Harry, and Shane from Montvale Moving about an hour ago, and I was so impressed, I promised them I would waste no time writing them up a 5-star review. So here we go.... I hired Montvale Moving to move furniture from my mom's house in New Jersey to my condo in Maryland. My sister handled the move on the Jersey side, and while these three gentlemen were still at the Jersey house, she called to tell me how amazing they were. They wrapped everything securely to ensure nothing would be damaged. They were very careful not to bang into any walls or doorways, and very careful loading everything onto the truck. And she was especially impressed with how polite and friendly they were. I received them on the Maryland side, and I was likewise really impressed. One of the pieces they moved was a large dining room breakfront, and there were two points between the truck and the dining room where the positioning got a bit tricky. I really liked how they just stopped to assess the situation and agree on the right plan rather than "winging it" and just seeing if it would make it through. They definitely know what they're doing. I selected Montvale Moving after requesting quotes from three New Jersey moving companies - all with top ratings - and Montvale Moving having quoted me the best price. When the moved was finished and TJ went over the itemized bill with me including gas and tolls, the final price actually came in lower than the quoted price! That was the icing on the cake! A+++ for sure!! I can't say enough about how great they were! I was very nervous about moving and asked around for a recommendation. A customer of mine said they used Montvale Moving twice. I figured they have to be half way decent since she went back a second time. Well let me tell you how wonderful they were! I couldn't have asked for a more seamless operation. First of all they were well prepared with everything they needed for a very large move. They provided two 35 foot trucks and about ten men in total. They moved me on a holiday weekend. The packing was incredible and the staff was very careful, friendly and attentive with my delicate belongings. They moved three workshops, a home and three sheds. There were a lot of delicate items, heavy items, lots of glass and antiques and I was shocked to see how well they packed the remaining bunch of the items that I couldn't get to. Once everything arrived at the new home I didn't see a scratch or have one thing broken. I don't even have one complaint at all. I was extremely happy with everything! Actually I was amazed at how well organized and careful they were with all my belongings. I would only use Montvale Moving in the future. Even though I hope I"m in my forever home. We have moved 3 times in 8 years and the past 3 movers were dishonest, did damage to our home and furniture, and back charged us terribly at the end. This being said we we apprehensive on all movers. My neighbor, a realtor, mentioned Montvale movers so we met with Fritz who gave a decent price and saying it would/could be an additional one or two hours which would of been equivalent to our other bids. We were called 30 minutes prior to the arrival and four very nice guys came and methodically dismantled and packed what was necessary. By noon we were moving on to our new home and without taking any breaks they began unpacking the truck and putting everything in the proper place. No breakage , furniture damage or complaining by anyone, just a clean move. The guys were just where our estimator said and we gladly paid for just a little additional time which we felt was fair. We planned to make a move from Bergen County, NJ last August, 2021. I contacted Montvale Movers in April of 2021 and asked for an estimate. At that time, I made Marty (the owner) aware that there would be 2 stops involved. The first stop would be at a storage unit in PA, and the second stop would be at our daughter's home in PA where we were going to live for that upcoming year. Marty came and personally gave us an estimate. He walked around the house, noted everything we were taking, took copious notes, and he marked down everything that needed to be disassembled or taken down. He then sent me an estimate a few days later. That estimate was for $5,772. The estimate included 2 trucks (we were moving a whole house of things) and 6 men, as well as the charge for packing up everything, dismantling things, taking things down, packing and placing things in the storage unit and bringing the remaining things to our daughter's home. Marty was aware of every detail of the move. In August, the men came and packed everything. (We have yet to move to our final home which is being built, so we don't know how well everything was packed. I will update this review at a later date.) It took an entire day to do the packing. The next day they drove to the storage unit in PA and we met them there. They moved things into the storage unit and brought things to our daughter's house as planned. We tipped the guys about $1000 between all of them. A few days later we got the final bill...... The price had jumped $3000! When I questioned Ray (who was the lead guy in the move) and then Marty, they gave me some sort of double talk about how it took longer than expected (not my fault), and they needed more supplies (also not my fault). Clearly he gave me a low-ball estimate to get the job, and then jacked up the price when I had no further recourse other than to pay it. Both of them continued to say "We will take care of you when we move you to NC into your new home". OK, well, I had no choice but to accept this, although I thought it was a real sleazy practice. When I asked how much the move to NC would be, Marty told me about $10,000. We had intended to use Montvale Movers for that move as well. Fast forward to a month ago, and now my new home is ready and we are ready to go to NC. I called Marty. How much will it cost? Now he says "$15,000". So THAT is how they are going to "take care of me"? I have since gotten 3 other estimates: all were under $11,000 with a guarantee (once the truck is weighed) of an increase of no more than $1000. We chose Montvale Movers because of the great reviews. But now we say, beware of those reviews and using these guys. Ours was NOT a good experience. Someone else wrote a review about price gouging. Loved these guys!! This was my first time hiring professional movers. I moved a 2 bedroom condo to a house and was nervous after trying to find a company with integrity. The gentleman that came to give me an estimate was sweet and honest. All the places I found online wanted me to list all my stuff to get an estimate. I didn't want to do that. When I called montvale movers they said they would send someone out. That gave me a great feeling. They were a recommendation from a friend. He said if it look less time it would be less money. I would like to first state that I believe the owner Marty is an honest, loyal and trustworthy person. I have no issues with him personally, but rather with the employees who did not accept accountability for damaging many of my items during a move into storage and out to our home. We have engaged Montvale Movers for several moves. We had no issues previously. These last two moves in July 2019 and November 2019 were done unprofessionally, with third string staff and resulted in cost overages, damaged items, rude unprofessional behaviors and delays. Note: we did receive the internet advertised 10% off our last move. The list of broken Items included: a antique oil painting that was punctured through the wrapping, an Ethan Allan Dresser sustained a 6 inch hold in the back, a Bombay Plant stain leg broken off, two Door Frames were cracked off, and endurable hairpin legs broken off, a premium Gym Mat weighing over 100lbs was not properly packed and actually broke from its own weight, box of vintage china cracked from poor packing, my baby's crib mattress was punctured and torn, book shelf was not packed properly and corner broke. There are many more examples see photos below. Marty in exchange for the significant damages agreed to have his men pick up a mahagony china closet (worth 20K weighing about 300 lbs) for me on their return trip from the south. I thought this was reasonable and fair. As I stated above Marty is a good guy. Unfortunately, his men did not inspect the item (which was pristine as both my husband and I drove to inspect personally), did not pack it appropriately with cardboard braces, and did not secure it in the truck. When they arrived they unpacked it severely damaged. I asked them to at least give me the piece of wood that was missing and they claimed it was not in the truck or blanket. The lack of accountability and honesty is disgraceful. Then outright denial that they broke the 20K breakfront. Marty ceased to acknowledge my texts, emails and phone calls to resolve the matter through insurance. I provided the receipts to demonstrate that the piece was compromised and the best that could be done was to fill crack with wood putty. I also provided him documentation from the former owner of the piece, photographic evidence timestamped and appraisal from the manufacturer themselves who I hired to help me. Weeks have passed and my request for restitution through insurance was ignored. I want others to be aware of the dangers of hiring a moving company. NOTE: its not the company but rather the men who are doing your move that you have to be concerned about. read more

These guys are fantastic!! My fiance and I moved out of our 2 bedroom Condo and in to our 4 bedroom home, early February 2020. Due to work commitments, I was not around on moving day. These guys were incredible. They took care of disassembly and reassembly (as previously discussed), they moved boxes, items, to designated rooms so my fiance and family members didn't have to. First off the guys who did the actual moving deserve 5 stars as for the rest of my experience that's a 1. I'll start with the guy who does their estimates. He showed up more than an hr late because he was off doing his own side job which I found to be very unprofessional. So he gave my estimate on my small move which consisted of a few pieces of furniture and very very few small items and seemed pretty easy. So he said 3 guys and 3 hrs and gave my price without mentioning that the price can easily go up and that I pay for travel time as well which for the record my move was very local with the residences only about 7 miles apart. Well 4 guys showed and they were very good and fast again no complaint with the guys. When they were done I already had my check filled out only to be told it was now get this $175 more than the estimate. Are you kidding? How can someone be more off then that, was this that guys first estimate ever? Needless to say I flipped and after some discussion one of the workers had with the office they were nice enough to knock off $75 and yes that was sarcasm as I still paid $100 more then my estimate. I had a guy from Spring Valley give me a set price which was $50 less then these guys but figured I'd use them because they're Montvale and my move was to Montvale you know support local business.
