Monty's Sunset on a Friday night was just what we were looking for. Laid back, live music, great service , and great food. Our waitress was fun, friendly and recommended a few great cocktails. We originally planned to just have a few drinks and listen to music while the sunset in front of us. After seeing several orders of a Mahi Sandwich pass us by, I decided to try one. It's was fresh, and delicious. Try it blackened!! I'm not sure about parking, but I'd ride share if possible. There is a parking garage nearby, but no immediate parking lots. There's a reason why this place remains a Miami classic. Location, location, location. Where else on the beach can you get the deals you get here, and they have free parking in Miami Beach. That's almost unheard of. I came here on a Sunday afternoon and the place was packed. The wrap around bar that overlooks the water and pool was brimming with people. We were able to snag two seats when we saw a couple leaving. Our bartender German was great. He was super attentive especially given how busy the bar was. I asked for a Paloma and it definitely hit the spot. My one wish was that it was served in a cocktail glass, but I guess it's their policy. We ordered the fish and chips and the Bounty. I feel like this place misses the mark on cooked foods. But the raw bar food is always good and this time was no exception. The combo of stone crabs, shrimp, oysters, and clams made for a great starter to share. I'm also happy I was able to get some stone crabs in before the end of the season. The live band was a nice touch, some people were up grooving by the stage, so this location also makes for a nice date night. read more

I come here all the time after work, which makes this experience even more disappointing. Jason, the manager, and the server were extremely unprofessional. I am a grown woman about to turn 30 years old, and my valid, government-issued ID was denied with no clear explanation--even though I've used this same ID here many times before without any issue. The way the situation was handled was dismissive, disrespectful, and honestly embarrassing. The tone and treatment made me feel uncomfortable and singled out, and it did not sit right with me at all. I understand checking IDs is important, but there is a professional and respectful way to handle it--and this was not it. As a regular customer, this experience was unacceptable. I will not be returning, and I would not recommend others support a business that treats customers this way. Do better. read more

Stone crabs here (esp winter months) were super fresh at reasonable prices! I heard that they source them from the same place that Joe's Crabs ppl do. While we were there, we also decided to split 1/2 dozen Oysters on the Half Shell from Bluepoint. We agreed the oysters could have been colder but also be careful of some shell still inside from the shucking process. Oysters are also larger than other places if that's a positive or negative in your opinion. Drinks were kind of a hit or miss depending on what you ordered. My first cooler drink tasted very watered down while my mango margarita was pretty good. Overall, this is a casual and comfortable place you could admire the boats, people watching and water. Prices are cheaper than most places in the area so I wouldn't mind coming again to try more from their menu. read more

The amount of meat in them will definitely satisfy your carnivorous appetite. Jump into the Grilled Mahi Mahi, served with sunset rice, veggies, and lemon garlic butter. A well-sized portion of a fresh caught off Miami. It tastes very natural, where all the side ingredients just add a subtle scent of twist to it. The Maji Maji Sandwich is the healthy burger you have always looked for. Tender enough on the inside, embraced by soft buttery buns. The chips have a nice crunchy bite to their signature taste. On the other side, the Maji Maji tacos were extremely disappointing. Flavoless, completely raw and lacking taste. Even the cole slaw salad that was ordered as an additional item, didn't help to pump off some kind of taste. Service depends on the waiter, they are usually overlwhelmed with the number of guest, so if the place is packed, forget about quick response. Waited a long time for a lot of things. I had a sunset spicy margarita. No jalapeño and their idea of spice was a rum of tajin. Not spicy at all. My son liked his Moscow mule and my bf switched from the spicy margarita to a mojito. We started with jalapeño poppers. They were ok. Basic with a sweet dipping sauce. We also tried the coconut shrimp. Basic. And mini empanadas. Expensive and spicy. My son had clam chowder. It was watery and I didn't like the flavor. For our meals my DIL and I had the tuna poke bowl. Did not taste as described. It was boring and the flavor just wasn't there. My bf had a burger and it was good. Well hooked and flavorful. When I lived in Miami many years ago, we were on a budget and loved going to happy hour. I remember ordering from raw bar and that their nachos were huge and filling. The sunset views on the marina were to die for! On a recent trip, I couldn't figure out where to go that wasn't too fancy but would have good food and decided to try Monty's. The boat show was in town, and that was stunning to see. I was being very indecisive about what to eat, so I went with the fisherman's sampler. It was HUGE - soooo much fried seafood! I originally want the calamari, conch fritters, and coconut shrimp, but the standout was actually the cod. I would say this could feed at least six people with a salad too. My server disappeared for about half an hour after I was done, so I would say believe the reviews about the service. I'm sure there are better places than Monty's, but the view of marina can't be beat. read more

We got the calamari which was good, we did have to ask for tartar sauce and Tabasco though because the marinara sauce that came with it did not have much flavor. I think Monty's should have more than three stars but maybe it the choice of peoples food options. I have it 4 starts because the customer service could use some work. You get seated and will be waiting on a server for at least 10 minutes, that is if you flag someone down. The nachos are the best and you get a large portion. Also the shrimp escargot is delicious. I literally go and get the same two items every time. It's right off the water so you have the view of the boats docked and if there pool which is in the middle. I gave it 4 stars because I have to chase down bartenders here for a drink which is kind of annoying. Nevertheless, worth checking out. We sat out on the patio with a view of the bay-side marina. We could hear the live music coming from the bar area, on the other side of the pool. (Wasn't too loud and was very enjoyable!). We split an order of calamari, I ordered the lobster roll, he ordered the lobster tails. Our order was expensive, but that was expected with lobster -- the rest of the menu seemed fairly priced for the area, experience, and food. Benjamin the owner had my ADA service dog removed from the restaurant because he created a rule on the spot that dogs are not allowed in the bar area. At this time and location the bar area was not busy, my dog was on duty and was calm and sitting where he was supposed to be.
