Smash burger lovers, this one's for you. I finally tried Monzo Burger in downtown Vancouver, and it's hands down the best smash burger I've had in the city so far. Juicy, crispy, flavour-packed perfection. We got: King Monzo: double patty, American cheese, all the classic toppings + onion rings ($16 + $7) The Wrangler: double patty, Swiss, bacon, jalapeños, charred onions, BBQ sauce + beef fat fries ($18 + $5) Everything hit. Open daily from 11am till midnight. You seriously don't want to sleep on this place. Food 5/5 Service 5/5 Parking (paid street parking around the block) Ambiance 5/5

Onion Rings. Quite terrible actually. Filling didn't taste like onions, not sure what it was....:(

This was my first time trying a Smash Cheeseburger. I liked it. .....but that's where it ends. The style of this place is very confusing. We walked in and expected a fast food joint. Were greeted by a very friendly host who sat us in a very large place. Take a fast food restaurant add a diner to it and extend a lounge style club at the end of the floor plan and that's the space. The message, vibe and overall energy was....well...puzzling. I didn't know what it was..... Also where we were sat there was spilt fries and leftover food on the ground to yet have to be cleaned .....not exactly appetizing. The cheeseburger/hamburger were both fine. The glass of $4 Coke slightly overpriced. I mean....c'mon it's Coke....not like there's Rum in it...moving on.... What really let it down was the Yam Fries and Onion Rings situation. Here's why... On the menu it says Sweet Potato Fries and based on that I decided to get....Sweet Potato Fries....why? Well....guess why....because I wanted...what?....Yup...Sweet Potato Fries. Long story short...I got Yam Fries...I told them....they said it's the same thing. Since I was in no mood to give a lecture on the difference between Yams and Sweet Potatoes I let it go. What made it even worse is the Yam Fries were terrible. They were cold and limp. The only thing cold and limp that's acceptable are elastic bands. The Onion Rings. I don't know what it was but it wasn't onion rings. Yes it was deep fried. Yes there was a filling, but it didn't taste or look like onions. Most of both the Yam and Onion Rings were left behind and considering how small their Smash Burgers are....We had to make alternate dinner plans. This was a fail as we were there for Dinner.

Very clean and sheek interior, retro diner style decor. Had the king monzo burger that was huge and the fries were salted and perfectly crisp. The burger tasted freshly made to order and had just enough toppings. Ordered the strawberry blonde cocktail, it was delicious and refreshing (tasted of carbonated fizz with strawberry puree). Definitely hefty portion sized. Loved the convenient location right in central downtown.

We decided to try this place because someone at pride gave us a BOGO ticket. The space is super cute, very vintage diner energy. The menu is small and perfect. But overwhelming. My mom had the cheese burger and I had the chicken Milano. The burger was pretty good. If you like smash burgers I'm sure you'll like it. I thought the chicken sandwich was pretty good too. Nothing that I could imagine myself craving, but it was decent and had cute vibes. My mom also got done onion rings that I didn't like. They were like PNE onion rings. A&W makes waaay better onion rings. They do have a cocktail menu, which is cute. I could see how ppl would find it expensive, but I think I'm just used to our prices at this point. For the cheese burger, chicken burger, onions and 2 drinks with the 1 burger being free it was still $50. I would take off another star for the bathroom bring dirty and out of toilet paper, but as soon as we told them they rushed to clean it. Also the manager stopped by the table to ask how everything was which was nice. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this place, but I wouldn't tell people to avoid it earlier. I'd eat here again if I happened to be near by and wanted something to eat, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way for it either, since it is in an awkward inconvenient location (under the Granville street bridge)

Great vibe, great food, ambiance at Monzo is awesome and the service is next level. Big shoutout to Owen he's an absolute legend! the managers are always around and genuinely happy to help. The concept is fun, simple, and done right. And honestly... best smashed burger in Vancouver no question

We live nearby and are excited to see a new and fun looking restaurant in our neighbourhood. We came here for an early dinner around 1530 on a Sunday a couple of weeks ago. The decor of the restaurant is very delightful and the service was very friendly and they were constantly seeking feedback which is great for a new restaurant. My husband and I both ordered the Monzo Classic Single, fries, and an apple hand pie. If the fries were less salty, it would allow the flavour of the potato and beef tallow to shine. The beef patty in the burger is quite thin so it is more like a slider to me. I'll probably get a double next time. The hand pie was quite good. It came piping hot. Similar to the fries, if less sugar or sweetner were used, it would allow the flavour of the apple to come through.

This place just opened up - Grand Opening Sept 9th. Seems like they already have a strong reputation and PR team, so here's an unbiased and unsponsored review: Summary: 6/10 food 9/10 service 8/10 vibes Initial thoughts when I walked in: I loved the bright orange ambience and modern diner decor. I was greet by two friendly staff members, and taken to a booth seat. I originally thought it was going to be more of an order at the counter, then grab a seat sort of thing, but I was pleasantly surprised by the hospitable service. To be fair, I went a day after grand opening so everyone was at peak performance. Great service and welcoming so far. Food: King Monzo ($18) substitute lettuce wrap (+$2): I wanted less carbs, so I opted for the lettuce wrap. King Monzo comes with a double patty, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles and signature burger sauce. Pretty normal burger, nothing outstanding, but nothing bad. The Wrangler ($18): Definitely the first thing I noticed was how small this burger was, as the most expensive burger on the menu. It comes with house BBQ sauce, aioli, onions, swiss cheese and spicy pickled jalapenos. BBQ was pretty good, not too heavy and on the sweeter side. The saviour was the jalapenos. Bacon was pretty bad, sort of tastes like pre-cooked bacon (chewy texture, not very flavourful). Soft bun. Overall was decent, but also on the underwhelming side given the higher price point and size. Beef Fat Fries ($5): Thin cut fries were oily, but crispy and flavourful. Vanilla Milkshake ($8): It's basically a cup of cold milk, with creamy vanilla icecream on top. I personally prefer a chunkier milkshake with more texture, so I wasn't a huge fan of the softserve. I won't penalize it since that's more of a personal preference. Overall, I'd say the food was average but the vibes and service were good. It's on the pricier end, so I guess it depends on what you're looking for. If you want a more comfortable burger/diner experience, I could recommend this place, but I have to say I wasn't super impressed or blown away by the food itself. It's also on the pricier side for this type of food. I think it would be a disappointingly expensive experience if I got this as a take-out meal. The staff and fun interior definitely saved this place.

@ Vancouver House - north side of the Granville Bridge.

Monzo Burger is located at Vancouver House underneath the Granville Bridge - north side. Today over a 1000 burgers were given out for free in preparation for the official opening on 09Sep. For a free burger, it was surprisingly very tasty & good despite it looking all squished up. Despite the odd look as though it was a breakfast sandwich bun, I really enjoyed it. I really do love Smash Burgers & then some. To truly gauge Monzo Burger, I am excited to go back & try Monzos other burgers. This is a Milan flavour inspired restaurant. Monzo Burger is part of the unique - Kitchen Table Group - of restaurants, so you just know that it's in great company. The menu is quite vast with many options - burgers, shakes, sides, beer, wine & cocktails, desserts - please do have a look at my menu pix. The exterior of Monzo Burger is obviously pleasing to the eye especially because of its connection to the new Vancouver House high rise. The interior is swanky in a bright colour scheme with a high ceiling. Plenty of seating is available. Bellissimo. Times are fast changing in Metro Vancouver. There was a time when the only option for burgers was via Fast Food chains. However, over the last few years consumers tastebuds, choices & preferences have helped usher in a competitive food market especially when it comes to smash burgers. Will the uptick in smash burger spots take away from the Fast Food market? Probably not, but it will put a dent in it. The Smash Burger war continues to heat up in Metro Vancouver - brace yourselves. Heads up Alert - there's a boatload of construction going on here at the north side of the Granville Bridge. This will be ongoing with major traffic disruptions occurring over the next few years. Plan accordingly if you are driving here. Mangiare. Molte Grazie.

I wanted to like it more than I did and walked away feeling meh about it. The space is colorful and filled with music, a great energy. Service was prompt and friendly, they really wanted to make sure you had everything you needed. Sadly, there are better places to get a delicious burger IMHO. I had the classic and it's overpriced for what I received. The patty is pressed so thin that it's maybe half a centimeter thick ... which creates a crispy edge but also a dry leathery patty. The bread to meat ratio is off. Not satisfying. The fries are cooked in beef tallow which adds so much flavor but unfortunately they were also heavily salted (fingers coated in salt) that it ruined them for me. Everything tasted like salt. The apple hand pie (also cooked in beef tallow) is pretty good. I like the pastry and apple filling. It came heavily coated in sugar/cinnamon which made it super sweet as the filling is also super sweet. It need some tart contrast to make it worth reordering again. Everything tasted like sugar.

I dropped by late afternoon a on a Thursday. The restaurant wasn't busy and had a lot of seating. I liked the bright space and the modern diner vibe. They also had tasteful chill house music playing lightly in the background. Staff was friendly and attentive. I got a Pinanaro Combo (add fries and beer) with the King Monzo burger and the Monzo Temporary Pilsen. The beer was okay, it was light and crispy. The fries was crispy and not too oily. Although I enjoyed the burger, I wouldn't say it was anything special and I thought was priced a little high for what it was. I thought the patties were cooked well, but burger came together like it was slightly elevated Big Mac. Overall, it wouldn't be my go-to for a burger. But can see the university students wanting to hang out here with friends after class or something because the spot seems hip and cool.

Solid spot for a quick bite! Was craving a burger and fries and finally tried out Monzo. They recently started a happy hour menu so I got their hamburger ($6) and beef fat fries ($4). Pretty decent and tasty! The server was super nice and the space is aesthetic and spacious.

We came here for a Winnie the Pooh Afternoon Tea. Oh my goodness...it far exceeded my expectations!…read moreHats off to the kitchen staff for coming up with such a creative and whimsical afternoon tea. First thing that caught my eye was the cover of the afternoon tea menu. It was red with a picture of Winnie the Pooh and Christopher Robin printed upon it in a shiny gold colour. When flipped over, it had the menu for the afternoon tea printed upon it. I was super impressed that they even had a separate menu printed for Vegetarians. (I opted for a Vegetarian menu). There was a cute little ceramic jar that was shaped like a Honey pot, and it had sugar cubes in it! Then there was this booklet that was pages long, and divided into Chapters. It was basically the menu again, but in the form of a small book. Each Chapter of the book described different foods from the afternoon tea. The last chapter listed all the different tea flavors one could choose. When we sat down and read this menu, I heard more than one person at the table say that they wanted to take this menu home. Guess what? For the price of $25, one could take this menu home as a memento of this extraordinary afternoon tea? Maybe I'm a bit of a sucker, but how often does one get to go to an afternoon tea as special as this? And I've always been a huge fan of Winnie the Pooh. So I coughed up the $25 and brought one of these menus home with us! Food was sooo good. I loved how warm the scone was when I cut it open. This was one of my favourite items. The sandwiches were amongst my favourites as well. As phenomenal as the experience was, I do think there are a few things which could have improved the experience. For one, a bit more service would have been appreciated. I had to wave my hand in the air to get our server's attention so that I could ask her to refill our tea pots with more hot water. Would have been nice if she'd just come around a bit more often and offered to top it up for us. Tea cozies on our tea pots might have been another improvement. A lot of my tea cooled down by the time I got to it. I like my tea hot but I didn't get in very many cups of hot tea as there was a lot of food to eat and by the time I was ready to pour myself some tea to wash down my food, the tea was...not so hot anymore. Oh, and while most of the food was appropriately sized, there was this one chocolate cookie sandwich that was really gigantic and suggested to be eaten last. We were so full already from all the other foods in the afternoon tea, and then to squeeze that giant cookie sandwich in...right at the end? A smaller and daintier cookie sandwich would have been preferred. It was overall a truly phenomenal experience. Yes, I do think it could have been slightly better, but I do emphasize the word "slightly". The points lost were so minor...I would still highly recommend this afternoon tea to anyone. It was well worth the money. It's offered every weekend for now but not sure how long they'll keep this around so if you're interested in a Winnie the Pooh themed afternoon tea, I'd make a reservation for it ASAP!

For dinner we shared a diavola pizza and smoked salmon parpadelle. The pizza was good but the crust was soggy. The salmon parpadelle was good but I think it would have been better with another pasta - spaghetti, linguine or fettucine as the pasta could not be twirled with a fork and spoon and had to be cut up. The service was excellent. When our server Malaka heard that we were coming in from Abbotsford she said that she would give us the "best seat in the restaurant". When we opted to sit on the patio she gave us a complimentary tiramisu as a thank you. It was such a kind gesture. It was a nice relaxing evening and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
