The young man at the counter park was very respectful, cordial explanatory, and a pleasure to talk to you. Need more kids like that in the pro shop versus the older guys that work at from time to time it could be condescending and rude course was flushed today, being any of May layout fairways are narrow a lot of planters some areas difficult to navigate for amateur golfers but overall a very fun course. The tea box is definitely need work, but the fairways were good and the greens were being aerated so it was a bit of a super cross track. read more

Nice course but the starters and marshals are ridiculous about hounding for pace of play. Including a stop at the turn we finished at a 4 hour and ten minute round from start to finish. Probably got harassed by the marshals each 3 holes and then had one follow and baby sit us for a few holes. We mostly all shoot 80-90 and were scrambling. Absolutely ridiculous. read more

Very beautiful course, well maintained however its a bit expensive. The starter was rude. When we checked in, no one said anything about a starter. Not all courses have them. We went to the tee box and were getting ready to tee off (there were no golfers in front on hole one) when the starter drove up to us and asked our tee time. Tee time was 12:00 and currently it was 11:45. He said "well, you need to go back there and wait until I tell you to go." We apologized and said we didn't see a starter. His reply, "Well that doesn't mean you can just go," dude, you were not where you're supposed to be so no need to get an attitude with us. the people who run this course treat with nothing but disrespect. Was forced to buy a $70 collared shirt because it's their "policy" but saw many golfers wearing non collared shirts. Rangers and starter were VERY rude to us and very disrespectful as they stalked us throughout the course. Strongly recommend you do NOT play this course if temperature above 75 degrees with little wind and high humidity. Fierce aggressive mosquitos on many holes. They need to saturate near water areas with DEET or malathion to kill them off. No fun when you spray repellent on and does not help much. Strongly recommend this course otherwise! Course in great shape. Excellent greens. Good value for money. Nice staff. Challenging but fair. Good pace. Don't play after rain though! read more

If you want to golf with a marshal breathing down your neck every 3-4 holes this is the course for you. They also have no meaning of customer service or positive customer interaction. If they focused on hiring another bartender or cook then people wouldn't have to wait 30 minutes at the turn for one drink. I wouldn't recommend this course for anyone looking for a peaceful round. I would just go to Freeport golf course or Bayou Golf course in Texas city. There are plenty of golf courses nearby who won't give you such a hard time. read more

Course was in good shape but did not see the cart girl one time on a weekend round. Pro Shop staff and Marshall are not friendly. Refused to give us an extra cart for a spectator after we requested one 2 weeks ago for our group. Did not allow us to sit 3 in a golf cart and kicked our friend off the course since he "wasn't playing" while 5 groups behind us all had riders and extra carts of people who weren't playing. I called the day before and scheduled a tee time for 12:10 pm on a Sunday. I noticed they have more times available for day before tee times if you call. I was amazed by the greens; they have done an amazing job with upkeep at the course. They have a nice pro shop with towels Moody Gardens golf shirts, etc. Sam my bartender put a smile on my face with her outstanding customer service. She was extremely busy and made sure we we're taken care of. She was so friendly, and I am glad I had her as my bartender inside and cart bartender while I was on the course. Also, if you are a Galveston resident you do get a discount at this golf course. read more

It's a nice course. No shade anywhere in the course so just know that. Not really sure it warrants the $105 greens fee though. We were 30 minutes ahead of schedule at the turn but the snack bar folks were still pushing the 5-minute stop rule. I understand wanting to keep players on track but it was super pushy. read more

Play there at least once a week. Course in great condition. Problem lies with no ball washers. Every golfer out there complains about it and if you ask then you are a dunderhead. Real truth is they took them out during covid and are too lazy to put them back. The course almost never turns the traps. The sand traps are always harder than a whore's heart. I usually just drop out of the sand trap because they almost never take care of them. Senior fees are reasonable but not cheap. 50 dollars. Several pro shop people are rude but not all. Played this course for the first time this week. We were super lucky to enjoy a mild day with low humidity and hardly any wind. That is a rarity around here in June. Especially on Galveston Island. The fairways are in great shape. It was like walking on turf. Divots stayed together and landed in one piece which made it easy to replace them. The greens were nice as well and the sand traps (I spent some time there) were well manicured with plenty of soft sand. I still can't believe how good of shape it is in especially during the Summer. Must be that Tilman Fertitta money. We saw plenty of wildlife. Fat squirrels, blue Herron, seagulls, and a roseate spoonbill. I'm sure the palm trees were brought in and planted but they blended nicely and really made it feel like a tropical location. It also sits right by the airport and we saw an abundance of airplanes and military helicopters taking off and landing. Great day on the golf course!!! Well done Moody Gardens. Well Done! read more

Nice course but needs more foo foo to make it fancier.n my opinion. I've played the course last year with a friend...but, I'm not good at it so I had cocktails and drove the cart!! In the winter the grass is still pretty green but the rest of the year...it's really green. There's water everywhere...sooo, be good at it or bring extra balls!! The airplanes from the airport next door fly over but not everyday so it's really a non issue. NOT a PRIVATE course sooo....get your SCHWING on!! read more

Really great course, even for beginners. It is completely walkable and the greens were great. Only things that could make it better were less bugs (not controllable there) and better markings of the tee off areas. Most of the marking pyramids that they use were damaged or missing, but holes 1, 9, 10, and 18 were in great condition. read more

Very challenging course with water in play on almost every hole. Fast and firm greens. Fairways and tees were in good condition. I enjoyed playing here, but wouldn't recommend playing here if you are looking for a fun and relaxing round of golf. Average golfers will lose over a dozen golf balls. The course was generally flat with little to no terrain elevation changes. The beauty of the course is all of the water. Bring plenty of balls, okay the wind and take lots of mulligans to have more fun. read more

Course was okay. But marshal was harassing us all day. Saying that a normal round of 4 people should last around 3 1/2 hours or less. He even cussed at us and threatens to call the cops. John was the marshes and he was very unprofessional. I like the course but I would have a hard time bringing others to the course with this kind of treatment. read more

Moody is a really nice course. I was pleasantly surprised. Played on a Sunday (yesterday) and the 90 degree cart rule was in effect. Unfortunately there was a tournament playing ahead of us so play was slow. And it was also the last day to use their Groupon so the course was super slow yesterday. I didn't have anywhere to be so I didn't mind. The only thing I did mind was the wind. It was blowing 15+mph while we were out there. From what I understand it's always windy which makes sense b/c its so close to the ocean. They've got a menu at the 8th hole tee box along with the number to the grill at the turn which I thought was pretty cool. They ask that you not stop for more than 5 minutes between the front & back nines. The course hugs the driving range on a few different holes so look out for range balls to be in a few fairways. There's water and sand on every hole so bring your A game or extra balls. The course condition was excellent. Greens and fairways were well kept and sand was raked. read more

Looks like the reviews of the Marshalls here haven't changed for years. First time playing on a course with my family and the Marshall made me want to quit after the 3rd hole. Half of our group did leave after only 9. Their degrading and pompous attitudes is unlike any I've ever experienced, using a literal phrase like "I don't know where you golf.." how extremely rude and unprofessional! The course was ok but I will not come here again or recommend this place solely based on the experience we had with the Marshall. Go to the mini golf course down the street, so much more fun and friendly. read more

Club Pro and Marshall could not have worse costumer service. Our group easily paid $1,000 dollars at the course and were treated like second class citizens. They had to chaperone us on the last 3 holes since we got bitched out for doing two 5-man scramble teams. We were not slowing down play at all if anything playing way faster than group behind. I have played golf my entire life and nobody is more respectable for pace of play than me. They were honestly just looking for something to complain about. Besides that you have to be eaten alive by mosquitoes for 4 hours and hit out of bunkers that are are harder than the parking lot out front. For $82 dollars just stay and chill at the beach, don't waste your time with this one. read more

First, the staff was very friendly and helpful. GolfNow screwed up my tee time, but they took care of it. Of course, it was cold and windy and they weren't busy, but they got me out early and didn't worry about GolfNow screwing up. Course was in fantastic shape. Fairways are wide and nice to hit off of, and there are quite a few holes where water can easily come in to play. Greens were in as good a shape as I have seen anywhere and do roll true. The course was in almost perfect condition, Interesting layout. Tee boxes and fairways were in top notch shape. The greens were medium slow; Putts didn't seem to roll smoothly, probably due to being recently aerated. I thought it was a pretty challenging course. Most fairways aren't tight though there are numerous water hazards and the greens are well protected by some serious bunkers. Seabreeze is a constant factor. Play was well paced. The marshalls do a good job keeping up the pace of play; we never got pinched by the groups in front or behind even though it was a BUSY Saturday. The employees are super polite from the folks in the cluhouse to starters. It's a little pricey to play weekends but considering it's in private club condition , I thought well worth the cost and the hour drive from Houston. I'll be back. read more

Water comes into play on a vast majority of the holes out here. The local airport also runs parallel to the back nine making it hard to concentrate (in a good way) while all the planes are taking off and landing. If you're lucky, you can catch the Lone Star Flight Museum vintage aircraft circling the area. Lush fairways and greens along with exotic birds aplenty make this a round you won't soon forget. Not really any complaints about this course. Sometimes my ball can get a little bit squirrely but I was actually getting straight today which was good because on the back nine the fairways get very narrow. Not a lot of issues with trees out here so if you don't like trees this course is for you however that means there's not a lot of shade. Also playing in the middle of July the course was all green no dead or rough spots, that was pretty impressive. read more

This is actually Moody Gardens Golf Course A true players course. Hackers should bring lots of extra balls as water will come in to play on all but about 2 or 3 holes. And by hackers I mean 20+ handicap. Practice area and driving range are in great condition. Tee boxes are in good shape. Black tee boxes (2nd to last) are pretty worn though as they are used. A lot. Fairways are green, very smooth and pretty wide open for the most part. A few palm trees line some of the fairways. A few holes have groves of palm trees planted in some very sneaky places to make life hard. All of the bunkers are quality and filled with real sand that gets raked every morning by the staff. Every hole has a bunker that comes into play both in the fairway and on the green. Greens are VERY consistent. Best part of the course in my opinion. Course over all is in impeccable shape. Only a few courses in the area keep their quality up to this level. They keep a full staff busy 5 days a week and it shows. Well done. Staff is on point and very helpful. I've seen them bend over backwards many times to help their guests get what they need. Cart service on the course is a nice touch. The only downsides to this course are the wind and the mosquitos. The mosquitos are seasonal and vary from day to day. Ask the staff before heading out and make sure to bring the bug spray. The wind is not seasonal and can sometimes blow upwards of 30 mph. Check the wind forecast before heading out or making a reservation for your tee time. read more

Clubhouse is very nice and drinks were reasonably priced for a golf course. Played round in 4 hours as pace was great. Challenging course and if in area would play again for sure. read more

Tee 'em high, let 'em fly! This is a municipal golf course that went under major renovations a few years back. Lots of water hazards and great views of the island and Moody Gardens pyramids. The course and greens are kept in pristine condition. All golfers in Galveston who aren't members of the country club play at the Moody Gardens course. read more

The course it's self was really nice. Greens maintained really well, nice layout. It was however unplayable. We were told in the pro shop before heading out to put on bug spray because of mosquitos. We did and expected some. But what we got was a mosquito oasis. I'm talking hundreds that followed the golf cart at all time. If it sat still they swarmed it and when you were hitting your shot you could expect 5-10 on you at all times regardless of bug spray, which we bathed in more or less. As far as the pro shop goes, there was an African American women whom I did not get the name of that helped us with getting checked in and got us all of our stuff ready to go, she was super sweet and couldn't have been more welcoming to us, and was legitimately sorry for us when we were through after 3 holes due to the mosquito problem. I did however get the name of "John" who couldn't have been more confrontational, rude, and flat out uncaring. He couldn't care less about the kid mosquitos when I asked if it was always this bad, said yes, and might as well have said tough shit. He was also very rude to us when we got there in the morning to check in. If you have the displeasure of dealing with this man, you'll understand and I hope you don't have to. read more

Played today, 5/9/14 Pros: Course is in amazing shape! Greens, fairways, tee boxes, bunkers, everything perfect. Cons: The employees are not the friendliest. The "pro" in the pro-shop was rude. The "marshal" was very unfriendly when I asked if I could start on 10 since there were 8 people standing on the first tee waiting to hit! He reluctantly showed me to the 10th tee. It took me a little over 1 hour to play the back nine since only one 2some was in front of me. The back nine took me almost 2.5 hours to play......so you're looking at a 5 hour round. Now, this was on a Friday so it'd make sense it would take a little while, except for the fact the course wasn't that busy!!! The issue, this course allows walkers on Friday!! And of course these guys sucked but refused to let anyone play through. So.......there were 4 groups backed up behind this one 4some. You'd think that "marshal" would have come around to speed things up....nope, never saw him the entire round. I will not drive to play this course again. It was in great shape, but I don't care how great the course is I will not play a 4.5+ hour round on an almost empty course (when I say empty there were about 25 cars in the parking lot when I left). read more
