Went to this restaurant this afternoon with my hubby. The food was great as well as the service. Love it!

I think this place may be my new favorite restaurant My friend and I walked in on a Friday night at 6:30 PM, with no reservations. The place was packed, but I have to assume we got really lucky because we got seated right away at an open table near the front. Our server greeted us immediately and brought us waters for the table. We were overwhelmed initially by the menu options because everything sounded incredible. We asked our waitress what she recommended, and she said literally everything on the menu is amazing - nothing is bad and every dish is popular. So I was quite impressed to hear that. My friend and I decided to get the steak tartare, woodfire grilled octopus, fried gnocchi, and chicken liver pate. Every single dish was actually incredible. The chicken liver pate came with four slices of toast, some pickled vegetables and ground mustard. The pate was creamy, rich, slightly on the sweeter side, so it paired perfectly with the tang from the ground mustard & pickled vegetables. The woodfire grilled octopus was cooked perfectly. Seriously the best, freshest octopus I've ever had! It wasn't chewy or fishy at all. The texture was absolutely perfect. It was very easy to cut into and juicy. It was paired perfectly with the aïoli as well. The steak tartare was extremely fresh. One of the things that I hate about steak tartare at restaurants sometimes is it will start to look brown from the meat oxidizing so it doesn't always look as appetizing, but this tartare was still had that vibrant red color as if they had just cut the meat. Lastly, the fried gnocchi was amazing. It's the first time I've ever had a dish with fried gnocchi. They paired it with a cream sauce that was absolutely delicious. I wish I remembered what was in it, but it was so good. I wanted to drink that sauce lol. Love how the gnocchi was also perfectly seared, had no lumps, and basically melts in your mouth. Overall, loved the ambience of this place as well. It's very hip. trendy. Definitely a louder environment but perfect for a weekend night out to enjoy great food. I would recommend making reservations. I think my friend and I probably just got lucky because we went a little bit earlier on a Friday night. Also wanna mention all of the wait staff was amazing. There's alway that nice factor of trying someplace new. This was a find from one of our friend. Which was also a hit from another friend who's dined before. We had a dinner reservation last Saturday which we showed up a little early to have a cocktail before hand. It's located inside of a strip mall with loads of parking. A decent size patio seating. When you walk in, you're greeted with the hostess who were amazing. Right infront of you is the bar area. That itself isn't big at all. There's a few seat along the bar area and that's about it. Also inside dining isn't big as well. Restaurants wasn't massive but nice and quaint and very busy. We were told that if we wanted to grab a drink and take it outside to a spot while we wait for our table it would be fine. They would come get us once it's ready. Cocktails and wine menu was quite nice. They do allow you to bring up to two bottles for a corkage fee. Which we did take advantage of. But beforehand, started off with their smoke and sour cocktails. Mezcal, lime, hibiscus juice, farm egg whites and cherry bitters. It was quite delicious and that smoked mezcal, wow. If you like mezcal, it's worth trying. Bar area isn't big so we had to stand there and wait for our drink. Maybe a 10 to 15 minutes later, we were informed our table was ready. We were seated right behind the bar area for a table for four. I believe Jonathan was our waiter. Very sweet and friendly. Also, it did seemed like a lot of regulars. All the staff members seem to know everyone that was dining. Menu is limited but quite impressive. We started off with a few shared plates before the entrees. -Ember roasted red beets with preserved lemon crèma, spiced pumpkin seeds, pickled Fresno chilis and mint. Wow, it was delicious. The flavors with the beets, kiss kiss. -Smoke trout toast- blisters cherry tomatoes, candy beets, wild arugula, crème fraiche and lemon. This was top dish for starters from all of us. The flavor of the trout was the star of the dish. Highly recommend. -Mushrooms flatbread- shiitake, buna shimeji and oyster mushrooms, tarragon, fiore di Latte mozzarella and crème fraiche. Mushrooms lovers with amazing variety all combined together for a delicious bite. -Spicy scampi flatbread- rock shrimp, parsley, garlic, Calabrian chilis and parmigiano reggiano. It's literally having a seafood scampi but on a flatbread. Wow wow, favorite out of the two flatbread. Definitely recommend. Entrees, Manila clams and salt spring mussels tossed in spaghetti with Calabrian chilis and parsley. The flavors were excellent. Simple but very tasty. -Crispy gnocchi with cherry tomatoes, basil in a Parmesan fondue. It's alway a hit or miss for me but this was a hit. And the elk which was maybe a special. Not quite sure the whole description but it was very tasty. Plus it was very tender and cooked perfectly and mixed with a sauce and topped with crispy onions. Another hit. Lastly we actually had room left for dessert which was the bread pudding. Hot with a nice scoop of vanilla ice cream. Perfect way to end an amazing meal. The service was great. Food was excellent and highly recommended. Each dish had its unique taste that was delicious. Everything ordered was outstanding and no crumbs were left. We would definitely be back. read more

Absolutely love it here. My biggest regret is I moved out of State 9 mo ago. But being back for a couple days made it a no-brainer to stop in. The food is inspired, and insanely delicious. The people are the best (great seeing you, Annie! Sorry I missed you, Vicki!). 8:15pm and still a lively crowd inside, everyone enjoying themselves. Naveed took care of me at the bar where I began with the perfectly prepared Moody Rooster Old Fashion. Added to that Just a couple appetizers this time: the Burrata and Artichoke, and the Sea Bream crudo. The former had a beautiful burrata mound atop artichoke hearts, pine nuts, and olive oil. Perfect blending of flavors. The crudo was equally well-received. An ample pile dressed up in the center of a shallow bowl, with plenty of olive oil, as opposed to being slices merely laid flat on a plate. Love this restaurant! It's always busy and this is because their food is some of the best you will ever taste!! The ambiance is fun and it's kept sparkling clean. We ordered the kung pao oxtail and it literally felt like it would melt in your mouth. It was so tender and exquisite. We also got the salumi flatbread which was delightful. The icing on the cake was the purple haze cocktail which honestly was the best new drink I have tried in decades. The owners are beyond lovely and the service was impeccable. Had a wonderful lunch today at Moody Rooster.We sat at the bar today and Navid was our server extraordinare. A truly authentic individual with the gift of serving. We also were greeted by Jenean another amazing person. The ambiance is always positive and uplifting. We started with water, ice tea and appetizers. This is a cool little place out in Westlake Village. Kind of chic in a farm fresh kind of way. We went here on a weeknight in the middle of the week but it was still very lively and busy. We made a reservation on resy and I'm glad we did because I didn't realize how popular this spot was! It was a bit noisy inside so we opted for outside which was nice with the heating lamps they had out there. It's actually a very indoor and outdoor place (very socal) and a lot of people were seated outside because of all the tables out there too. We had a lovely meal. All the flavors were doing interesting things in each dish. I really enjoyed the meatballs and was so delighted when I bit into it a meatball and tasted thick chunks of brisket. It was definitely one of my favorite things I had. I also enjoyed the mushroom pizza and the salad. The Brussels sprouts were a little too sweet for me and not what I was expecting but I still applaud this place for its bold flavors and interesting pairings and would definitely come back to try more. We asked an our waitress why the name of the restaurant was Moody Rooster and it was fun to learn the chef was born in the year of the rooster and cooks whatever he is in the mood for. Hehe, I thought that was really cute and I was excited to learn because of this the menu changes often - it's always fun to have a place to come back to that continues to surprise and impress you. I think this is a great place for meeting up for a meal after work or going with a small group to catch up with each other over interesting food! Climate control. Basic stuff. The main hostess - older lady at the front - clearly woke up and chose "customer service is optional." Zero warmth, zero smile, just that energy like we were already inconveniencing her by existing. You know it's bad when you're standing there like, "Did I... wrong you in a past life?" She looks at the reservation for inside, then hits us with: "Yeah, we're gonna put you... outside." Ma'am. That's not "inside." That's adjacent to inside. I didn't book a table on the curb. Then we sit down and the servers are in regular clothes... and not even "cool casual restaurant" regular. More like "I had 10 minutes to get ready and lost the battle." No uniforms, no aprons, nothing. I didn't know who worked there and who was just standing around hoping their food came out. Now the food: * Shrimp pasta - Man. The shrimp was way overcooked and chopped into tiny little pieces like it got jumped in the kitchen. Dry, chewy, little shrimp scraps hiding in the pasta. I'm forking around like I'm doing a scavenger hunt: "Congratulations, you've unlocked half a shrimp." * Bread - This bread was not "crusty," it was hostile. Way too crispy. I love a good crunch, but this was like biting into a toasted lego. One more piece and my dentist would've sent them a fruit basket. To be fair, not everything was chaos: * Drinks were actually really good - whoever's on bar duty deserves a raise and possibly custody of the restaurant. * Gnocchi slapped - soft, tasty, comforting. Absolutely delicious meal here!! Fantastic cocktails and food. A solid date night spot that is on our rotation. We got several dishes and shared family style. Started with the green salad with caramelized pecans, apple, and grapes--so good and perfectly balanced. For our main dish we shared the Brussels sprouts (a bit under cooked for my taste but still good flavor), Parmesan gnocchi (MUST get!!!), and the duck sausage flat bread. Sooooo good!! Flavorful dishes and friendly service. Someone had recommended this restaurant so we finally checked it out. We did have to make reservations in advance as they get booked up 1-2 weeks in advance. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor dining. We did eat outside and glad we did as it was a little more quiet outsides. We had the sourdough bread and pink lady apple salad. The bread portion was smaller than I thought but was still very good. Came out warm and perfect for dipping with olive oil. The salad was well seasoned and perfectly dressed. For our main, we had the crispy gnocchi and the roasted chicken. I could taste the garlic and seasoning in the gnocchi dish. Nothing muddled, seasoning was perfectly balanced. One of the best gnocchi dish I have had thus far. The chicken was also well seasoned with the crispy skin giving a nice texture. I thought the chicken was a little on the dry side but still very good. The potatoes that came with the dish were delicious! For desert we had the seasonal carrot cake. Had such a delicious lunch here! Parking was really simple, it's located within an outdoor mall complex. I made a reservation online but they had plenty of seating available - both outdoor in their patio and inside. The service was so friendly, our waitress's name was Carrie. She explained that the menu frequently changes and everything uses sustainable ingredients that are local within 50 miles within the restaurant. Super cool! I ordered the peach salad and added chicken. I absolutely loved it. It tasted really fresh and the peach was such a nice addition. Met my contractor friends here to discuss "work" one night this week. I was surprised at how busy this place was for a Wednesday evening. We ate family style and ordered: Evening special, 28 oz tomahawk ribeye - it was probably a 2" thick cut, prepared medium rare, served sliced about 1/4" thick. I gnawed on the bone, cave girl style, it had ALL the flavor!!! Harissa Carrots - chick peas, hummus, almonds, turmeric - they didn't add cumin in the description but I think that was the spice that stood out the most. Not my favorite spice but the others enjoyed it enough. Smoked Trout Toast - blistered cherry tomatoes, candy beets, wild argula, creme fraiche, lemon - this was a good appetizer, a hefty mound of the trout salad (like chicken salad) on a small piece of toast. Not sure what kind of bread they use but I think I would like a slightly thicker more artisan sourdough with a grilled char to enhance the trout flavor. I know this sounds UBER picky but that's where my brain went when I was eating it. Duck Sausage flatbread - duroc pork, drunken goat cheese, pickled dried apricots, honey, pink peppercorn, allspice - the flavor of the sausage was amazing! This was probably my favorite dish of the night. If I'm being a critic, I'd say this could be better if the sausage was just a little more crumbly and disperse haphazardly across the flatbread. I say this because the sausage was SO GOOD, I want more of that flavor in every bite that I take. Crispy Gnocchi - cherry tomatoes, basil, parmesan fondue - I really want to like this dish more. There was nothing bad per se BUT, when I saw "crispy gnocchi" I was expecting more crisp, less pudge to the bite. Oh! And more balsamic reduction on the plate, I just needed a little more acidity. They disappeared from the plate very fast! Served over creamy hummus. The was a perfect example of sweet meets savory with the honey drizzle and apricots. If you think you don't like octopus because of the toughness or texture, like my daughter Courtney, this will change your mind. It changed hers. The is blanched for a perfect, soft, texture, then pan fried to add wonderful crispness. The peppers and smoked chili sauce put it over the top. The is probably the best, soft inside, pillowy, crispy outside gnocchi I have ever eaten. And the Parmesan fondue as a sauce is something I will be attempting to recreate. Gnocchi is a dish I have yet to even come close to mastering with my lead weight results. Our server warned us on the special, so Diane and I shared this meal. I believe it could feed 3 people. I went on a weekday around 5pm and sat on the outside patio. It wasn't busy yet, but filled up around 6. All the plates are easily shareable if you want to try different things. Little gem salad was fresh with all the veggies and delicious dressing. The Saganaki Flatbread had fried slices of cheese on it (which I loved) but it was a little underwhelming for me so I'd try something else next time. The Crispy Gnocchi is a show stopper! An ex boyfriend grew up in Thousand Oaks and he described it as a very mid suburbia. I did not know that this area had some culinary delights!!! I walked into Moody Rooster promptly at 5pm because we didn't have a reservation. Luckily, they were able to seat us, as long as we were outta there by 6:30. The vibes were interesting, like California suburbian homestead meets Midwest live laugh love, but it did not detract from the food. We ordered the gnocchi after seeing many rave reviews. It was fire. I could eat it 300 days in a row and probably not get tired. We also got the salmon--equally delicious. The harissa carrots were bomb. The corn bread was the only miss. It was kinda soupy, with too much going on. If I find myself in the area again, I'd definitely go back. There is still so much more on the menu to try! read more

I don't know what was not to like about this place! We got a table before the dinner rush and ordered a few items to share. The restaurant was super packed, but service was stellar. Our server even took a break midway and we had another server handle us and she was able to cover our table easily. The roasted white cauliflower with yogurt and herbs was the clear favorite and we finished off every last bite. It was a good, balanced starter and way to enjoy cauliflower in a new way. The fennel sausage pasta was rich and delectable. Our server had recommended it and we were glad we took her up on it! Although we had high hopes for the Loco Moco - the unique take with the salmon didn't quite hit the mark. I would have preferred it with meat patties it traditionally comes with. It was a skip (for me). Moody Rooster has a creative menu and uses local produce. I liked that the ingredients are fresh and they rotate their menu seasonally. We got a bottle of sparkling pinot noir that surprised us. We all liked it! Finished that bottle of brut lol! Then we ended the superb meal with bread pudding. First time trying here and wow absolutely delicious. The place was very welcoming and had in and outdoor seating. The plates are shareable and the drinks are all soo good. Their cab franc and Grenache Syrah were my favorite! The plates that won my heart and taste buds were the skillet Corn Bread and the Tomato & Burrata pappardelle pasta. Jacqui was our waitress and was amazing with all the recommendations and gave top notch service. If it wasn't for her I would have missed out on a new favorite dish. I ordered the special of the night -- scallop squid ink pasta in a homemade red sauce -- and it was absolute perfection. My husband went with his go-to, the cavatelli pork sausage pasta, which is comfort food at its best - they keep it on the menu permanently (for good reason!). We started with the steak tartare toast -- one of my favorite appetizers anywhere. The tartare was fresh and perfectly seasoned, served on thick sourdough toast. It's a generous portion that could easily be a light meal paired with a salad, but it was perfect for sharing before our pastas. The drinks here deserve their own shoutout. I'm very picky about margaritas, and their skinny margarita is probably the best margarita I've ever had -- crisp, fresh, and not overly sweet. What I love most about Moody Rooster is the experience: the French-trained chef and his wife, who runs the front of house, make it feel warm and personal. The food is truly farm-to-table (I see the chef shopping at the local farmers market every Sunday), the service is always friendly, and you can taste the quality in every dish. This is the perfect date-night spot, a great place for celebrations, and still family-friendly. Reservations are easy to make on Resy, which I appreciate. This place is so good! Jonathan was our server and took great care of us. The moody old fashioned was great, a little sweet but still carried the classic old fashioned flavor. We ordered the pink gem salad to start with and it's delicious. If you like goat cheese and candied pecans get this salad. We also got the crispy gnocchi which has an amazing creamy sauce! Lastly we got the meatballs, which are seasoned well and come in a sweet red sauce. Food is so good. I totally now understand the hype of this place, the Moody Rooster is amazing! Delicious food, a lively atmosphere, and friendly service, this place is definitely a win for WLV. I had heard about this place over the last year and just hadn't made my rounds this way. However, one of my girlfriends recommend it for a girls night and we agreed to give it a go. This place is POPULAR! I almost talked myself out of making a reservation with them for a Monday night (my side of town most places are dead Mondays). But somehow I was still smart and made the reservation. We pulled up at 7:15pm on Monday and this place was mobbed. That's when it hit me this spot would be amazing. Couldn't believe on a Monday night there was only like one seat available in the house. Thankfully with a reservation we got a nice booth tucked near the back. Staff here are very inviting and warm. We had a lovely blonde waitress (maybe she could have even been an owner or lead server) just because she came off as so passionate about the menu and us having a good experience. Everyone here was very nice and attentive. Different staff brought us dishes from the kitchen and I loved seeing the team effort. Service was 5/5 stars because everyone was friendly and the meal was extremely well paced. The menu looked incredible. I love that they have seasonal dishes and like to update the menu often. They also have a few signature dishes so if you like their pastas some have seemed to stay on menu. It was truly hard to pick our dishes as everything looked so good. Cocktail and wine menu was also impressive. I feel like they have a really nice, diverse menu that can meet even the pickiest of eaters expectations. The food was very very delicious. For a starter we went with the watermelon salad. Pretty typical flavor profile, watermelon, feta and lime. It was refreshing and with us getting heavier mains, it was nice to have a more refreshing salad to start. My table ordered a variety of dishes. We had the duck sausage flatbread, the crispy gnocchi pasta, and I had the fennel sausage pasta. 5/5 for the food all day long. I couldn't believe how well executed every dish was and the flavors were on point. My fennel sausage pasta was so buttery and flavorful, the perfect blend of herbs and sausage. Would highly recommend this dish. My friend's crispy gnocchi was also phenomenal and another great dish. For my cocktail I had the Shattered Dreams. Presentation wise I was expecting something else but the taste of the cocktail was very good and light. My friend had a glass of one of their white wines and we both enjoyed that sip. I'd definitely like to come back to give some of their other cocktails a taste. This restaurant really is a gem in WLV. The bar area was very cool and I liked that they had a semi open kitchen concept. I really did love this place and am already thinking of when I can get back here. Pro tip: make the reservation and definitely order a pasta dish. You can't go wrong and super happy that Moody Rooster is in the 805. read more

I was excited to try this place and it was on my list for while. Came here and it was more than half empty. The server was so nice and sweet. She kept telling us everything is good and you need to try. The food was horrible here. I recommend not to try here. It took 40 minutes for one plate. The steak salad was like less than hand scoop of salad. It was more of steak meal. The steak had more than 3/4 fat and it was not edible at all. It was overpriced. I am giving one star because server was nice but the service was very poor. I would not be back and not recommend this place to anyone. I was so pleasantly surprised on how much I loved the food here. We ate family style so we could try everything and everything we ordered was sooo delicious. The crispy gnocchi was my favorite and it was so good that I forgot to take a photo!!! But definitely do not skip on it. The gnocchi was fluffy and crispy without being too dense. The flat bread had Calabrian chilis so just the right about of heat and plentiful with the seafood on top. The fennel sausage pasta was so tasty and the pasta cooked perfectly. Moody's has become a local favorite especially if you love good food and don't want to have to drive to LA for it. I highly recommend getting a reservation as they are busy most nights. The interior isn't big but it's cozy and they have tables out on the patio that wraps around the building. It's hard to choose with everything on the menu sounding so appetizing. Highly recommend the Little Gem salad if you're a Caesar salad fan. I love Moody's version of it. Flat breads are great, we got the salumi and chanterelle one. I'm not a fan of the gnocchi so I skipped it this time. The octopus is so good although it was lacking a little salt, and of course get the meatballs. We had the olive oil lemon cake which was ok only. I remembered getting an olive oil cake there that was amazing but this was a different one. In the mood for MOODY ROOSTER in Westlake Village, CA! We are new to the area and my friend who works in LA highly recommended this spot. She said, "Must try the Crispy Gnocchi!" Okay, let's gooo! On a Thursday evening ~6:15pm, my +1 and I walked in and immediately felt the buzz. The place was packed with a happy crowd! Luckily, we scored a small table for 2, albeit Al fresco around the corner and in the back during sunset. It's a good thing my +1 already had a ball cap and sunnies on. Otherwise we would've declined. Note to self: make a reservation! Smoke & Sour Cocktail - el boho mezcal, lime, hibiscus juice, farm egg white, cherry. Yummy and creative! Had me a bit buzzed by the end of dinner. ;-) We shared the following plates and it was more than enough for 2: Yellow Nectarine Salad - candied pecans, raisins, pink lady apple, goat cheese, green onion, honey mustard vinaigrette. Wonderful! A bright & tasty summer salad. Smoked Eggplant - orange, pickled onions, pistachio brittle, tahini sauce, micro greens. Wow!! Have never tasted anything like it. The flavors were amazing!! Crispy Gnocchi - cherry tomatoes, basil, parmesan fondue. Creamy & savory. Yum! Roasted Half Chicken - bbq spiced sweet potatoes, roasted garlic, thyme. Perfect addition!!
