I found this spot via yelp. From start to finish one of the best meals I've had. What made my experience extra special was having Ella (bartender) serve me. I walked in for a Filet but her enthusiasm for small plates got me so after three appetizers and dessert a wonderful cocktail and Fernet I was more than satisfied!!! Thank you for a wonderful experience I will be back and hopefully Ella is behind the bar.

10/10. Have dined at PD a few time and they have never missed. Most recently had our company holiday dinner here and so glad we did. Drinks are delicious and pack a punch (not too sweet, just perfect!) & the food is divine. You really can't go wrong with anything you select on the menu but do me a favor and get the braised short rib appetizer. Service is great and [[HIGHLIGHT]]the restaurant is super cute and quaint.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Perfect location in a popular Westlake shopping center.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Happy holidays!

We came here to celebrate a couple family birthdays and we had a great time! Our server was very responsive and friendly. The service was just the right speed for a relaxed dinner - prompt enough that it kept things moving but never felt rushed. We started with some drinks. They have a good mix of cocktails and wine on the menu. Then we got a couple appetizers. We had a couple braised short ribs, ahi tuna crudo, and sourdough bread to share amongst 7 people. For the main course I ordered the branzino. It was delicious! The lemon butter sauce was so good and flavorful, and the potatoes and veggies that were paired with it complimented the fish really well. It had nice crispy skin on it too, which I loved. For dessert, almost all of us ordered the wonder bar. It was a peanut butter caramel shortbread dessert that was pretty unique to most restaurant desserts. It was delicious! I almost finished the whole thing even though I was stuffed, because it was just that good.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Nice dinner spot![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I went for my Birthday dinner last Friday and had a wonderful meal. We had the beef tartar which was delicious and the crudo to start. I had the halibut for dinner and it was cooked perfect. We also had the Wonder bar for dessert. Our server was good and our food came out in a timely manner. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant itself is simple dimely lit and clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Excellent service, the meals here are always such a treat with the specials. Servers are very accommodating, and very knowledgeable about the menu as I have many allergies. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They originally sat us in the front of the restaurant, we requested a seat change because we and my wife wanted to sit next to each other instead of across and they opened a section in the back for just us.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Above and beyond service. Very thankful for the experience.

First time coming here on the new year eve and we had a great time. I did a make a reservation ahead of time and it turned out to be the right decision. We ordered the daily special shrimp cocktail as well as the lobster tempura for the appetizers and grilled salmon as the main dish. The lobster tempura would be my favorite for the night, very flavorful and cooked perfectly. I also like their cocktail selections and I ordered "muddy monk" myself and my parent ordered "wildwood". I like the yuzu flavor of my drink and it's not too sweet. Another thing to note that they have great desserts and excellent services. We enjoyed every bite of the "wonder bar" and it paired perfectly with the dessert wine we ordered. One thing to note that is it seems like they do change the menu from time to time so the dishes you liked before might not be there any more but I do like that they always bring something new to the menu.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Nice quaint little restaurant with an amazing bar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Bar seating looks like reservation only, but I may be wrong.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Their drinks are spectacular and clever in their concoctions. The old fashioned was made well, but the wildwood cocktail really impressed. Had to try the muddy monk which they claimed was a "bartender's drink"; it combines complex ingredients to give an earthy taste. I personally really liked it, but I have varied taste. Crispy Parmesan risotto cake is a must have. The Norwegian halibut was good. Crispy Asian chicken breast tasted like orange chicken. Their service is really fast and great.

Wonder bar taste like a decadent snickers bar

Wow, excellent service and meal! We ordered bread & butter, 4 appetizers, 2 entrees, 1 dessert, and drinks for a table of 3. Darren provided excellent service and was very knowledgeable about the menu and what was seasonal and rotating off at the end of summer. Instead of bringing out all our appetizers at once, he paired them so the flavors would compliment each other and brought 2 out at a time so we could enjoy them slowly. His judgement was spot on and the chef made delicious food with artisanal touches to each plate which made it very elevated and special. I see why this place has been around for so long. Make sure to book a reservation because they are fully booked. They are also pet friendly as I saw two different couples with their dogs dine on the patio. So we got cocktails to start off the meal with bread and butter. I got mezcal and the rim was salted with vietnamese carrot salt - so good. The butter was infused with herbs and something unidentifiable and it was so good. For appetizers we started with shrimp ceviche and crispy shishito pepper. The pairing was delightful and the ceviche had whole shrimp pieces, not diced up into little pieces like you may be accustomed too. Then we got tempura lobster and salt n pepper shrimp. Wow, what a pairing. I've never had lobster like that before and it was so good! We shared short rib ragu and brazino which were both stellar but the brazino definitely was a highlight with the sauce that it came with. By this time we were all pretty full but we wanted to end on a sweet note. We got the wonder bar which tasted like a decadent snickers bar. Every dish we got tasted so good and there were thoughtful touches throughout the meal that made you appreciate the plating or taste or something that caught your attention. The service was equally matched with the ambience and plating, A+++, 5 stars for Darren who was amazing and took our picture at the end.

    Karen P.

I ordered the halibut special and it was flaky and moist. Really delicious although fish usually isn't go-to order. I was able to try the lomo saltado entree and that was more my speed, but I'm glad I tried the special! Service was attentive and fast.

I see venison in the photos here of the food. However, I don't see it on the restaurant's site menu. Is it still on the menu? Is it perhaps a special? If so, on what day?

Thank you for your inquiry. Venison is often a special and more so during fall and winter time.

What is the Mother's Day menu for 2021?

Hi Cathy, thank you for your interest in Pearl District. We are currently not open on Sundays and therefore will not be open on Mother's Day. We will eventually add Sunday evenings, but for the now we are open Tuesday through Saturday evenings…

I'm going to say that the service was really nice and the staff was really attentive. There wasn't many other people there, which is not great to see because they deserve more attention! They got nice modern comfortable decor and wide open spaces. We tried the tasting menu for each of us as well as an additional dish of steak. Champagne and sake were our choice of alcohol. The tasting itself was $88 and it serves 9 courses. I recommend having it if you aren't sure what to eat. All the dishes were presented nicely and tasted wonderful. We had an additional tasting after for round 2. Haha not because it didn't fill us up, but because we had to invite more people. The tasting is enough to make sure you're full. Plentiful parking in the lot attached. The location is a bit buried inside where the neighborhood is quiet, but it is definitely worth a try. They have sister restaurants called Omaniku in the 626 area as well. I recommend anyone to come try for anniversary, birthdays, date nights, celebrations, or get togethers! You'll impress them with the taste.

Ken is now running FOH, and he's a real pro. They have two new FOH servers who show their newbieness but they definitely have promise. New chef (but with Will still overseeing the kitchen) - there is just a hint of variability in the temperatures of individual dishes but I trust they will nail that down. I do appreciate they remember how I like my meat...and I trust they will get their consistency place which will move them from excellent now to GREAT. The menu is mostly the same (for those that loved their original menu - the chawanmushi egg custard and chicken wings are still there, though the chicken wings lost a little of their unique and beguiling crispness, which I hope they will find again. They flavours are still off the hook...The shishito peppers and whole squid seem to be missing) They also added a tasting menu which, for those unfamiliar with Charcoal Niku's style of modern Asian fusion cuisine, is a great introduction. At $88 for 9 courses ($118 for a one serving sake and wine pairing) the price is actually quite reasonable for the quality of the ingredients, prep, and presentation. All in all, I am very glad they are back, and if you haven't tried them, I could not recommend Charcoal Niku more. So much so I have friends from LA, 30-45 minutes away, who are constantly asking me, "When are we going back?" 'Nuf said.

As pescatarians, we found the menu somewhat limited. While the food was competently prepared and attractively presented, it did not justify the final bill of $213.77. The meal began with a complimentary amuse-bouche of burrata cream on watermelon tasting which was elegant and flavorful, but small. For starters, we ordered the Hamachi, Salmon Tartare Tacos, and Smoked Trout Toast. Each dish had an interesting concept, but none stood out. The salmon and tartare were ground so finely that they lacked the texture and freshness we expected. For our entrées, we had the Tomato & Burrata and the Sea Bream. The sauce accompanying the burrata was excellent and was the highlight of the meal. Unfortunately, the sea bream itself was slightly overcooked. We also tried two non-alcoholic drinks: a hibiscus mocktail and a lychee lemonade. Both were pleasant but unremarkable. For dessert, we ordered the peach galette and the chocolate dessert. They were nicely presented but tasted average. The chocolatine contained croissant bits. Given the restaurant's prices, we expected desserts to be better curated and with memorable flavors. Instead, they reminded us of supermarket-quality desserts. Overall, this is a beautiful restaurant with excellent service, but the food did not live up to either the presentation or the price. We'd consider returning for the atmosphere, but not for the value.
