Thanks to Phil who reached out to address the concerns from our first dining experience and to invite us back. We honestly were not sure if we wanted to make the drive to Moorpark again, but given Phil's extended efforts, we felt it was only right to give Freda's another try. Our last visit was during Mother's Day weekend, so we thought to come for brunch on Father's Day. It was busy when we arrived, but the host team managed the flow of customers very well. While being seated, the timing of the next reservation was mentioned, allotting an hour and a half for our time there. This was more than enough, and we were graciously thanked for our understanding. Shortly after, Danielle came to greet us, apologized for the previous dining experience and showed sincere appreciation for having us again. We had two servers for our section, Nathan being our primary one, but as before, we felt the entire team worked exceptionally well in taking care of customers. We started with the Focaccia Rustico which was the best part of our last meal. This arrived heavily toasted. We prefer the softer version from our dinner, but it was still very good. The husband was eager to try the French Dip, and it did not disappoint. The sandwich had the perfect ratio of meat to bread. The au jus was flavorful, along with the horseradish spread. The fries were, hot, crisp and nicely seasoned. I ordered the Dutch Baby. It arrived freshly made in the cast iron pan, with sides of butter, syrup and berry compote. This was my first time having the German pancake and it was delicious! It will now be on my radar when having brunch elsewhere, but Freda's is the standard that others will follow. Team members checked on us often, as they did with other customers. Danielle stopped by a couple more times. We were thanked again, as we left, for giving them another chance. We came for lunch and it just so happened to be restaurant week. They had a special menu for the event, which offered a 2-course brunch/lunch for $29, and $10 more for mimosa/wine. We tried the New Orleans BBQ Shrimp, Meatballs, French Dip and Mediterranean Chicken, and a mimosa. The meatballs were about the size of a golf ball. After cutting it in half the center looked firm and somewhat dry. It tasted a bit bland but after putting extra marinara sauce on it greatly improved the taste. The shrimp was ok but it did not stand out. The portions of both seemed small, probably adjusted due to the special menu. The bread that came with the dishes were good, warm and toasty. I really enjoyed the French Dip, the prime rib was tender, and the au jus and horseradish sauce enhanced the flavor. However the horseradish sauce didn't have the kick I was anticipating, so maybe more "horse" or more "radish"? Mediterranean chicken was also delicious. The fries were thin and crispy. Mimosa was refreshing. Service was great, our server Stephen was attentive and checked on us often. Overall it was an enjoyable first experience. read more

This is in an area in Moorpark that reminds me of a quiet little American town that you would happen to drive through on a road trip. I was not expecting this at all when we came here. They are part of the InKind app where you pay with the app and earn rewards. The exterior reminds me of a house where you would sit outside with a cold glass of sweet tea in the summer time. We opted to sit inside as it was a little warm outside, but I kind of regretted it as the breeze kept the temp down. Anyways, the service here was great and friendly. We started out with the french onion soup and meatballs. Both dishes were really good. The meatballs sat in a nice marinara sauce and it was firm, not mushy in the middle. Flavor was good and the marinara was really good. The french onion soup was a little bit salty, but not to the point where you can't eat it. I like the texture of the cheese and it had a nice pull. The steak frites and Chicken Scallopini was also good. Though, I did find the pasta to be a little bland and I could just taste mostly butter. Could have used a little more seasoning for sure. The steak frittes was really good. It came out medium rare and pre-sliced. I really liked the fries. They were fried to a perfect crispiness and seasoned very well IMO. The steak was a little under-seasoned, but a little salt and pepper did the trick. The chimichurri was a good compliment to the dish. Overall, I enjoyed the food here. Normally, I got deliveries from this restaurant or ate indoors. One day, there was a woman who was rude to me. I asked her why she was staring at me. The next time I went to the store, the staff refused to serve me. In anger, I threw an object. It wasn't at a person. Nonetheless, the staff made up false reports to the police. The bottle didn't break. It rolled on the ground. But someone I've never seen before in my life claims it almost hit her. Someone who wasn't even on the scene. Next, one of the chefs claimed I told them to go back to their country. Again, I've never met or spoken to this chef. And that doesn't make sense, because my family members are immigrants. I would never discriminate against immigrants. All in all, this store is full of liars, people who lied to the police. read more

We went to Fredas during restaurant week last Wednesday and they were offering a 3 course meal that was great. $49 a person, choice of appetizer, salad, entree and you could add a dessert for an extra $10. I started with the Bbq shrimp appetizer and Bonnie had the fried mac and chz, both were very tasty, I especially liked the toasted bread points with the shrimp. It was perfect for sopping up the sauce, both on my shrimp and the tomato basil sauce that came with the fried mac and cheese. My Caesar salad was spot on, the dressing was obviously fresh made and I could taste the fresh anchovy paste. Bonnie's pesto barata salad was just as good if not better and came with more of the toasted slightly charred bread that came with the Bbq Shrimp. For the Entre I chose the 6oz filet, it was perfectly cooked and served with mashed potatoes and a zucchini red bell pepper side. The plate as a whole was a bit boring and could have used a cabernet reduction or sauted mushrooms and garlic. Bonnie had the seabass with a shitake mushroom asian sauce. It was cooked perfectly and was delicious. We used its sauce for the filet. The service was good, the hostess, bussers and server were polite and professional. This would be a five star review except for the ambiance. It's not that comfortable (wood chairs), didn't see any booths or other chair types, patio didn't look inviting. We were in the area directly in front of the bar and the rest of the restaurant down the hallway past the bathrooms might be more private and inviting. Today we stumbled upon this place . We were in Moorpark. Getting our cats teeth cleaned and we had some time to relax and get a bite to eat . The waiter we had was also very good at staying on top of all our needs. I ordered The Lobster Roll ($35) and a French Onion soup. Since hearing good things about Freda's I wanted to give this place a try for my bday. We sat outside and the view was nice. Service was a little slow since there was only one waitress. But she did a great job. We ordered the spinach & artichoke dip and mac & cheese bites first. The spinach dip had a soupy like consistency and immediately left a bad taste in our mouths. The crostinis were the highlight of that appetizer. At first bite the mac & cheese bites were okay, however the longer we ate them the more the taste declined. My son had the chicken nuggets and fries. I ordered the chicken scallopini and my husband the cubano. I'm sad to report the only thing good between the dishes were the fries. According to my son the nuggets were "awful." My pasta was so bland I couldn't finish it. My husband was not a fan of the cubano and also mentioned how bland tasting it was. The only saving grace was the nice chocolate cake I received for my birthday. Turns out they just hired a new cook. Unfortunately, we weren't the only ones to feel this way, we overheard another table say they refuse to pay for their food as it was just as bad. EDIT TO ADD: 3.5 stars We went back the next day and tried their wings, cheese pizza, pepperoni pizza, and the cheeseburger. I'm happy to say the second time around the food was much better, however it wasn't anything to write home about. My friends and I wanted to have a nice dinner together. But our server, Lauren, did not make this experience good for us. She tried to take our order and we asked for some time with the menu. She left us at 8pm and didn't come back to us until 8:30pm. By this time the people next to who had gotten there later than us had already gotten their order. She also forgot to discount us for our happy hour discount until we had to remind her and my friend ordered a chicken salad and there was no chicken. Quick Stop In.....Great customer service! We stopped in for a quick refreshment on a weekday night. An hour before closing, 8pm on weekdays, the restaurant has happy hour with select wine, beer and cocktails. We grabbed a couple of cocktails off the menu and settled in with some meatballs. The meatballs were spot on due to the yumminess of their tomato sauce that hit the spot. We soon found out that the owner of the yummy sauce was around the corner from the bar- we had the opportunity to meet the cook, Melissa, and learn about her secret recipe- First of all the sauce is homemade....and cooked for 8-10 hours with carrots, not sugar. The sauce is nice and thick with the perfect amount of sweetness. They should bottle this sauce! We also appreciate the great bartender Danielle (sorry if misspelled) who warm and friendly. We first visited Freda's when they just getting started at this location. They were so new that they didn't have their liquor license yet. We recently returned, and brought a friend with us to enjoy an early meal after we'd done the Camarillo Hospice Garden Tour together. Our friend/neighbor can't handle gluten, so she was happy that there were options on their menu for her to try. She went with an order of salmon pizza. It came out looking gorgeous, and she loved the taste. There was plenty to take home and for her to have lunch for the next day. For my part, I noticed that they had lobster roll on the menu, and an instant craving was born. Dear Hubby and I decided to share the lobster roll entree, which came with a generous amount of fries. We also got a side Caesar salad. It ended up being plenty of food for us as the lobster roll has a very rich, satisfying taste. It was very yummy, and I'd be happy to order it again. We could have opted to sit outside, but a large party was taking the whole outdoor space. We were cozy inside and received great service. The bar is definitely open now, and Freda's is in full swing. We got there early, and they quickly filled up, so our timing was good. When I went to the restroom, I noticed an interior room that I didn't know existed before. I asked one of the staff members about it. It's the right size for a small group gathering. I think it can hold about 20 people, and it's separated from the main dining room. If you were having a business meal, or a family celebration, it would be a great space in a history building to enjoy. Based solely on my first visit I would've given this place 2-3 stars. I came on an off day. However the manager served our table and was insistent on knowing what we really thought of the dinner. My kid was the first to be vocal about his chicken not being to his liking, followed by the missus and her chicken scallopini, then myself on the appetizers since my Cubano was decent and the fries were good. There was a rush when we came, lots of tables sat at the same time, so the manager insisted we come back and try it again since it was my wife's birthday dinner and didn't meet expectations. We had the Mac n cheese bites, the chicken scallopini, spinach artichoke dip, kids chicken tenders, a chocolate cake, and the cubano. The only thing that was pretty bad was the runny spinach dip which was more of a soup than a dip. We came back the following day and it happened to be happy hour. It was a night and day difference. The pizza was delicious and my kid said "this is the best pizza ever!" We ordered a cheese pizza, pepperoni pizza, and buffalo wings off of the happy hour menu, along with cheeseburger. Everything was good and the pizza was my favorite. Food came out quickly this time, and we took home the pizza we couldn't finish. Based on this experience we would definitely come back. We met our friends at Freda's who had not had the experience of dining there and much to our surprise Freda's just started serving brunch and as always Phil and his amazing crew continue to serve fabulous and delizioso entrees. This is a nice welcome to the evolving landscape of High Street. On approach, it seems like it's a Victorian style saloon. But push past the doors and it's light, bright and modern. Think barn with a chandelier kind of aesthetic. They offer lunch and dinner in the small dining room. In warmer weather or with heaters, you can enjoy the veranda porch outside seats or the side patio seating. The menu is solid. A few sandwich choices, a few pizza choices, a few salads and a few mains. There is something for everyone. Yes, there are a few apps and happy hour too. The food is California cuisine. We got happy hour drinks and I very much enjoyed my margarita. It comes served in a high ball. I loved that. My husband enjoyed a Boylan non alcoholic soda. We liked the big steak (20+ Oz) and the chicken parm plate. I got a side salad with honey mustard and really enjoyed it. Steak was cooked to order, it comes with a butter sauce on top, I recommend asking for that to be light, it was a bit too much for our preference, but easy to scrape off enough. We took home leftovers and had a second dinner the next night and a pizza for friends. Our friends loved the pepperoni pizza saying it was good crust and plenty of pepperoni. All in, $130 + tip. We went big, could have just had a pizza and drinks and been out for around $40 + tip. Less if stick to happy hour menu. You can find a way to stick to a budget, just depends on hunger, any drinks, and food desires. It's small, so it's busy. I loved to see customers pouring in. We need more good restaurants in Moorpark and Camarillo! I don't recommend it for families, it just doesn't have that little kid feel to me, but if you sat outside on a nice evening, it could work. I've never done two reviews on the same place before, but tonight's dinner was just that good. Our server was Danielle, and she was exceptional. She was very busy but still had the ability to be very attentive and friendly. We started off with a Catorce lager and a Coco mojito. Both were great. My wife went with her favorite, the lobster roll sandwich, and I had one of the specials, a roast beef Po'boy. It was a really well made sandwich. Wonderfully thin sliced roast beef on an excellent sandwich roll. So many times you order what sounds like a great sandwich on the menu and it ends up being a disappointment with barely any meat on a tiny sub roll. This is definitely not the case at Freda's. My wife, meanwhile, was wowed by her French Onion burger. This might be a direct quote, "this is the best burger I've ever had!" I tried a bite, and... she could be right! I'm having a hard time finding the words. I got a club sandwich and French onion burger with fries and a caesar salad. The burger was...okay. Overcooked and dry. Medium rare apparently means well done. While the toppings were good, there wasn't nearly enough of them. If the burger is styled after a soup there's no reason it should be dry. The club sandwich was probably the worst club sandwich I've ever had. There was maybe 1 slice of low quality deli ham and deli turkey in the entire thing. Most of the meat was eaten by taking a single bit of the quarter. Then a sprinkling of mayo, 90% was bread and lettuce with a decent amount of tomato. The fries and caesar salad were good though, so I guess I got that. For a place that is priced highly for quality, this is unacceptable. It feels like a waste of money. I could have gotten a better burger from carls and a better sandwich from 7/11. read more

Freda's is such a great restaurant. The ambiance is sophisticated and quaint at the same time! Don't know how they do that. The people working were so nice. Ive been there three times now. I don't know if the guy who is always there is the owner or what but he is so friendly and happy which adds to the wonderful ambiance. We are excited to go for happy hour sometime. The food was awesome. Sooo good!! So nice to have a good lobster roll with big pieces of lobster and not fishy. Pizza wonderful and a hit there. Many tables had pizza! Chicken pasta x2 all eaten up. One of the best restaurants I've experienced in recent memory and definitely one of the top places in the surrounding area and cities. The food is delicious and you can tell by the presentation they take pride in it, we got pizza and gnocchi and both were perfect, I love a pizza with good dough and gnocchi that's pillowy soft. The wine selection is exquisite, it's well thought out and has a wide variety for everyone, same with the bourbon menu. It was quite a treat to meet the owner, Peter, it definitely made it feel more personable. Most of all, the service was top notch, our waiter Lucas made our night by taking care of us and making sure we were taken care of. It was a huge baked bread with puréed tomato and roasted garlic on top. It was ok. Only the top had the tomatoes and garlic and it was a big thick baked bread. So a lot of dry bread. Caesar salad was great, Shirley temple was on point. Had the braised short rib in mashed potatoes. This was delicious. Banana cream pie was like a 2 out of 5. The tables are pretty close together and one of the downsides is there's no covering on the window so the sun just blinded us at our table we ordered a salad and some pizza. My husband and I found ourselves with a rare, last-minute kid-free Friday evening and decided to treat ourselves to a local date night. We love supporting local businesses, so we headed to Freda's on historic High St. Even without a reservation, we were seated on the patio, which always has such a great vibe. The server set up a heater for us, and despite the chilly night, it was cozy and beautiful. We started with the Mac and Cheese Bites--crispy on the outside, gooey on the inside, and absolutely perfect as always. My husband ordered the Bone-In Ribeye, which came with a choice of soup. He went with the French Onion Soup, and I had to sneak a bite. It was hands-down the most flavorful French Onion Soup I've ever had. I'll be coming back just for that! When our entrees arrived, we were blown away. My husband's ribeye was massive, perfectly cooked, and paired with creamy mashed potatoes. Every bite was packed with flavor. I opted for the Filet and Lobster, and wow--unbelievable! The filet was so tender it practically melted in my mouth, and the lobster bisque on top was rich and decadent. The portion was generous, and every bite was perfection. The service was impeccable, the ambiance was lovely, and of course, the company was the best part.
