This was my weekly haunt at the Hillcrest Farmers Market until the pandemic. Now I know I want to order more often but I resist. I will say that the brickle is a must when I visit my office in the Bay Area - folx do t ask me how I am or say they are glad to see me. They ask if I brought that candy! You know, that kind .. lol. We immediately knew that this is where we would go for any future carrot cake cravings. They're based in Carmel Valley, and will deliver to San Diego. Alternatively, you can coordinate pick up with them as well. They're super friendly and sweet. Their prices are very reasonable and you can tell that they use good quality ingredients! The cashew and pecan toffee is extraordinary. I was given some toffee as a gift and was blown away. Simple, plain, homemade brittle. You can taste the quality ingredients. Delicious. I've even ordered some from their online website. Can't wait until my packaged is delivered. I went today to the north park farmers market to get some treats!!! Omg!!! I walked to the Hillcrest Farmer's Market after seeing reviews for Mook & Pop's... it was quite a hike from downtown so while it'd be a stretch to say that it was worth it, I also didn't regret it. The people here are super sweet and I was able to try a couple samples! I ended up getting the carrot cake and it was a fat slice. Awesome cream cheese frosting to cake ratio. The cake itself had a really good texture but I normally am not a fan of nuts in cake. If you are at the farmer's market, definitely stop by here for some sweet treats! read more

Tried a sample and were hooked! They are sooooo good!! I bought 3 for $20. The couple were such nice people. She said her husband makes all of the treats and he just comes up with all of it by himself. So creative using saltine crackers or cheez its as a base but adding things like reeses, coconut, macadamia, dark chocolate, butterfinger makes it amazingly good! Tasted these folks when I was enticed by their generous giant spoonfuls of samples at the Hlllcrest Farmer's market a few weeks back. Wowee. I dream about their desserts. The lemon curd and berry pie/ crumble were amazing. The rocky road was mind blowingly sweet, creamy, and full of sugary sweet goodness. They have a home-baked, fresh-off-the-rack style to their baked goods: dense, chewy, and quality sincere ingredients. I settled on a ginger cookie: it was dark brown sugar molasses gooooodness. The only downside is that it was so fresh, it started to go stale in a few hours... but I see that s a good thing. You must stop by. I dare you to try a sample and not buy something. read more

I'm not even much of a carrot cake fan, but Mook and Pop's might have just converted me. I stopped by their tent at the Hillcrest Farmers Market. They were handing out samples of their pecan cinnamon roll, which was really good, but I had just eaten breakfast so I wasn't in the mood for a pastry. The carrot cake caught my eye, and they offered me a sample. I practically threw my wallet at them after the first bite. But seriously, I bought a small slice of carrot cake for $4. Mook and Pop's carrot cake is the best I've ever had. It's moist, nutty, and so flavorful. I loved being able to see actual shredded carrots in each forkful of cake. And the icing on top is thick, sweet, and tangy. Just perfect. It's probably a good thing I left the Farmers Market with just a slice of carrot cake. All I have to say is wow! I bought the pecan cinnamon rolls at the farmer market. They are beyond cinnamon roll good. They are in their own class. They are cut up in am easy to share and eat style and look beautiful for presentation at any holiday or gathering. But I prefer it for my regular mornings. I bought 3 different kinds of the Brickle and brought it to my sister's home in Colorado over the Thanksgiving Holiday. Everyone went crazy over this home made brickle and I am sorry I didn't bring more. I have also tried their other baked breads and they are delicious. I've been meaning to write a favorable review of Mook and Pop's for ages! They popped up at the Hillcrest Farmers Market ages ago, and I'm so glad that they are a regular fixture there. Each delicious delight is flavorful, rich, and HUGE. If you aren't sure about what you want, they will gladly let you sample anything and everything until your heart's content. To say that the vendors at Mook and Pop's are friendly, accommodating, and informative is an understatement. I would highly recommend this vendor to all. Once you try one of their delights you'll always come back. If sweets aren't your thing, then drag a friend with you and split a whoppie pie or bourbon pecan pie. Their products last a couple of days, but with all deserts you want to eat them sooner rather than later. Their website is very informative as well, as you can buy their cookbook for $10 if you want to make these pies/cake/amazingness yourself! I also appreciate that the cookbook can also be an eBook. I got one of their pecan pies on Sunday at the Hillcrest market for a pie party on Friday. I did as instructed (wrapped it securely in foil and stuck it in the freezer), and drove to the party and let it thaw that way. The pie not only survived but was hellllllllls of delicious. It was delicious before, obviously, but it was just as delicious even several days old. Basically, you cannot go wrong with their pecan pie. Such kind people and they delivered my carrot cake at no extra charge! It was so incredibly good. The frosting was amazing. Light and creamy cream cheese frosting. I'm not even a carrot cake lover - it was for a friend's birthday and it's one of her favs. She was pleased. I asked if they were able to decorate it with her name and Happy Birthday. This is a must stop booth when you go a the Hillcrest Farmer's market! I must have sampled all their treats and they are all delicious but my favourites have to be the carrot cake and the lemon bar. Everything is super fresh and made with high quality ingredients. However I believe their first ingredient is always Love! This family works very hard but they are always smiling and friendly and generous with their samples. I first went for the treats but became a repeat customer because of their genuine customer service. They really are Awesome people! They have a huge variety of deliciousness and if you go early enough because they do sell out, you can find a new product! I highly recommend them ... even if you are not in San Diego! They always have something new and delicious to sample, then send you off with a smile and fantastic treat for home. The quality is amazing, you can tell everything is prepared with love. From the Strawberry - Rhubarb (that I am eating right now) to the Pecan and Cherry, the pies just can't be beat! Well unless you try the carrot cake or cookies... Oh... And the Rocky Road! If they had a shop I would be there morning, noon and night, my diet would be in some serious trouble. Their pies are magical. They make whatever the fruit available at the moment pies. The crust is amazing. It is the only time I actually enjoy the crust...made really well. The pies themselves are full of fruit and the whole thing makes you feel heavenly. The pies are small thank goodness because I eat the whole thing in one sitting. Everything was so delicious! I was really looking forward to their carrot cake and it didn't disappoint. It wasn't overly sweet, it had great spices and the frosting is to die for.
