Summer pie series has some seriously scrumptious flavors, so I got a few pints to share. Every S&S flavor that I've tried featuring berries has been a winner, and the Wild-Foraged Berry Slab Pie is no exception. Like my earlier in the summer fave, Blackberry Birthday Cake, the Berry Slab includes thick and rich ribbons of succulent berry compote encased in a decadent sweet cream ice cream base. The Peaches and Cream Galette was also a banger, while the Wildflower Honey and Lemon Chess Pie was less successful. I enjoy light, fruity, not too sweet flavors generally and I couldn't find one that suited my taste. My little one enjoyed one of the four we tried. The flavors were unique and many of them that we tried were wayyyyyyy too sweet. The waffle bowl was kind of soggy before it even soaked in the melted ice cream. If it was just me, I probably wouldn't purchase anything as the sample didn't sell me any. My little one would've been super disappointed so we got the one she enjoyed. The service seems dependent on who services you. The lady we got seemed annoyed she had to help us while the lady next to her seemed super happy and helpful. They have super unique flavors, one being a goat cheese something or other, and a marzipan raspberry. Popped in here when I was craving something sweet after a late lunch nearby. My go to is honey lavender, but today I was feeling adventurous, so I tried one of their limited flavors. At first, I wanted the Hong Kong Tea and the server was nice enough to offer me a sample first. That was really nice of him, and glad he did because I ended up going with another flavor, the caramelized plantain with spicy pecan toffee. Their Limited Tacolate collab with Taco Bell brought me in on a Saturday night. We grabbed dinner a few doors down but I was sure to save room for this cool treat. It was a pretty popular spot. Oh honey... what is there not to love about Salt & Straw? Let me start with a quick disclaimer: I'm lactose intolerant, so ice cream and I usually do not get along. That said, Salt & Straw has been nothing but good to me. The hardest part is narrowing it down because every flavor is unique and ridiculously good. On my most recent visit, I tried the pumpkin bread ice cream and the chewy molasses ice cream, and baby... that pairing was chef's kiss. I usually go for a split scoop because it makes me feel like I'm getting a lot of ice cream in one scoop, which somehow makes me feel less guilty about calories. Not that I'm counting them anyway because let's be real--this is a TREAT. Why are we counting calories? LOL. You're lucky if you show up without a line, but the good news is most people already know what they want, so the line moves pretty fast. Unless there are new flavors out--then everyone wants to sample the whole board. But honestly, it doesn't even matter because the vibe is always so good.
