So good it was scary how good. Absolutely worth going for a treat. It looks like people actually ate dinner there instead of only desserts. We sat inside and it was convenient that you could get your own water & to-go boxes. Made it less stressful. We went late at night, so like the lighting was more like mood lighting, but it was really nice. The place was very much decorated and looked like it had been additionally built-in. Absolutely worth going to. The person at the counter was very nice.

SERVICE: 4/5 This is primarily a self-serve spot. You order at the front, then choose your own table. They offer more than just desserts, including entrees and drinks, though I didn't try those. One thing to note: there isn't a clearly displayed dessert menu, so it's helpful to look at the options and decide what you want while waiting in line. FOOD: 4.5/5 The desserts are absolutely stunning and beautifully presented. They were a bit sweeter than my personal preference, but still incredibly delicious and worth trying. ATMOSPHERE: 5/5 The interior perfectly complements the desserts with a floral, elegant aesthetic. It's a gorgeous space that makes the whole experience feel special.

Most amazing drinks! Never disappoints mostly likely always a line (order in advance line NOW) Most beautiful desserts you will ever see. Great space in the restaurant to sit and chat while enjoying your dessert and tea. One of my favorites if you're in the area, I must try. Knocked a star because they were out of the chocolate chip cookie :(

My best friend from out of town came to visit and we were looking for a good gluten free dessert after lunch in Little Italy. We headed here since we assumed they would at least one gluten free dessert, and it exceeded our expectations. The place is large, spacious and beautifully decorated. All the desserts were like art and there were at least 4 gluten free options that didn't look like afterthoughts. We had the gluten free flourless chocolate cake with raspberries and strawberries. It was delicious! The service was so sweet and we'd definitely go back!

Still my go to place when I'm craving something sweet and special. Their cakes may be pricey, but in my opinion, for the amount of work, effort, and quality of ingredients, I think they continue to be fair. For example, some other specialty bakeries/shops are charging similar prices for cakes and cheesecakes that are much simpler. In comparison, Extraordinary Dessert cakes take 3-4 days to make, have 6-8 alternating layers, and are typically adorned with edible gold and/or flowers. The key is to find which items you like and which are okay to pass on next time. What we ried this time: -Match Misu Cake (7/10): ricotta cake layers soaked in matcha and layered with marscapone whipped cream. This one was pretty good and ranks in my middle to high range. I only wish there was more matcha flavor (maybe if you dine in and get the sauce, this would help) or the matcha was paired with another flavor ... either go fruity (maybe a raspberry sauce, strawberry pieces, white peach pieces, or like a peach oolong cream layer) or go chocolately/coffee (maybe had some crushed up chocolate covered espresso beans). My go to's: -Ivoire Royale (10/10) - my ultimate favorite still. If you like light desserts, white chocolate, berries, and moist vanilla cake, thus one is for you. Classy and unpretentious -Shangrila (10/10) - my other favorite and will make you feel like a princess with all the pink chocolate curls. A little bit adventurous and innocently elegant. Ones to skip: -Au Chocolate / La Bete Noire / Dame Chocolate - get the Viking instead. That's my favorite of all their chocolate cakes -Lemon ricotta - get the Passionfruit Ricotta instead -Torta misu - the matcha misu is better. The tortilla misuse made me want a regular piece of tirmaisu than a cake version -Coconut cream - not bad, not amazing though

I hate to say it, but this place felt a bit overhyped to me. It is definitely beautiful and visually appealing, but the prices are high and the taste just did not stand out. I got two slices to go and unfortunately ended up throwing most of them away. One was their version of tiramisu, and it leaned more toward a basic cake rather than having that classic tiramisu texture and flavor. On a positive note, they package everything really well. By the time I got home, the cake and frosting were still perfectly intact, which I appreciated. My recommendation would be not to over order. Sharing a slice with a couple of people is probably the way to go. I would mainly bring visitors here for the presentation rather than the flavor.

Dulce de Leche Cake - yummy
    Kate F.

My boss ordered the dulce de Leche cake and it was delicious. It fed 10 of us and there was still about 1/2 a cake left so easily can feed 15-20 with small slices. It's rich so you really can't do a huge slice. The flowers aren't edible but make the cake look beautiful.

    Napolean
    Emiliano N.

Both napolean and the strawberry sanish parisienne pastries were yummy. However I recommend that you share the napolean with one other person and the strawberry danish parisienne is enough for one person. The brown sugar oat latte was massive and I was not expecting that size so you should also share that one! All in all it's a nice place to just enjoy a nice pastry and chat with friends or family.

Extraordinary Desserts was the go-to special occasion cake shop during my years in college 10 years ago. I still make a point of visiting whenever I'm visiting SD. At my most recent visit we ordered the a slice of the berry Chantilly and the chocolate ganache cake. Even with the nostalgia aside, I still love their cakes.

Best dessert place at little Italy, friendly staff and place was kept really pretty. So many varieties to try, hopefully I will get to visit one more time before my trip ends!

We were craving a late night dessert and decided to stop by extraordinary desserts. Growing up, my friend and I used to drive all the way from north county to have desserts here, and 15+ years later, they still haven't lost their touch. I highly suggest getting their half slices (if they have any). They were still huge slices but much cheaper. I love how rich the chocolate cake was, with gentle hints of brandy. The passion fruit ricotta cake was so refreshing with strawberry and kiwi puree. We were literally in dopamine rushh!!! Soooo goood!

    Catrina R.

A friend of mine is a dark chocolate fan and these decadent slices of cake they have always is a hit with her. I HIGHLY recommend for dark chocolate cakes specifically. I got a few slices of a few different cakes but they also have cookies and other yummy treats. You can buy whole cakes here so I recommend that too as they are beautiful and most come with flowers on them. The service I experienced was phenomenal. Even though there was a line forming I had some questions (I went to get treats for my family friend who has allergies) and the man at the front was super kind and patient. As a side note something I learned during that conversation was that on Thursdays they have something that is a "Yogi" cake and it is nut free and all-the-allergies-you-can-be-allergic-to free! So recommend that. You order in the front and then there are seats behind. It's a cute little place. I went early around opening time and the line wasn't long. But because I went early (11am) there was plenty of street parking. But it's $1.25.

    Palentine's event
    Lily Ann P.

I came here with one of my girlfriends to celebrate Palentine's Day, and honestly it might have been the most perfect "girl dinner" I've ever had. They had a special themed menu for the occasion, and the place really went all out to make the experience feel special. Our table was beautifully decorated with flower petals, and the seating area featured a gorgeous three-tiered display adorned with even more gorgeous flowers. Extraordinary Desserts are known for their floral touches. It made us feel so celebrated like we were at our own little Galentine's event. The evening started with a lovely charcuterie spread brought out by our server: an assortment of cheeses and meats paired with fresh fruit and flavorful spreads (the pesto was especially good). Each plate was presented thoughtfully, and our server took the time to explain everything as it arrived. The service was warm and attentive: they checked in just the right amount without ever rushing us. My friend and I talk a lot, and we almost stayed until closing! Of course, the desserts were my focus. Everything looked like edible artwork. My personal favorite was the chocolate cake: rich, decadent, and absolutely unforgettable. I was also so thankful we still had some cheese on the table because chocolate cake with Brie is a surprisingly perfect combination. Between the classy ambiance, wonderful food, thoughtful service, and the best company, it was one of those nights you wish you could bottle up and relive again. A perfect spot for celebrating friendship, indulging in incredible desserts, and feeling a little fancy for the evening

Probably too late of an answer but for anyone else who's wondering, they usually pack their desserts in boxes

We have nut allergies. How safe is the food handling?

I wouldn't risk it since a good amount of stuff may contain nuts

Yes, they were present, not bad bad, but noticeable...inside the glass cases at that. I just prayed over my dessert and enjoyed

    Do they make princess cakes?

They don’t do that sort of thing, but they do make gorgeous, fancy cakes and specialty desserts!

When is the best time to order from them? Whenever I go to their online order menu everything is pretty much sold out. I really want to try this place out but never can.

I would just walk in. We walked in and there was no line.

Are there places to eat dessert outside since inside dine-in is closed?

When I was there last, there were only a few small benches. They used to have spacious restaurant size indoor eating. But they could have opened it back up recently.

Does anyone know if they have opened dine in yet TIA?

Not yet. Still closed with no eta.

5/11/2026 CHOCO CHIP…read morePISTACHIO COOKIE Wow! This was reeeeally good! It was crispy on the outside and slightly chewy on the inside. Lots of chocolate and I think they added toffee in it too. The middle section had pistachio frangipane (or it looked like it) with coarsely chopped pistachios that brought another layer of crunch! Then to top it all off, it had pistachio cream on top of the cookie! I only wish I got another one. CAPPUCCINO It was okay. But love the foam! It was frothy and foamy! PAVLOVA The meringue was a bit too hard and too sweet and the pastry cream was overwhipped. Loved the fresh fig and blueberries though. I was looking forward to eating pavlova and this was very disappointing! KOUIGN AMANN Very buttery and sticky! Crispy on the outside. Every bite was not dry, but chewy. There was this sticky and chewy texture that wasn't unpleasant, yet it wasn't fully flaky like a croissant. But glad it was not dry! The kouign amann was not as tall like others I've tried, but I preferred it this way because it was not dry. The last kouign amann I had from Bread Lounge was dryyyy. But bought mine at a coffee shop too. PAIN AU CHOCOLAT Crispy on the outside, but I must have toasted a bit more, so the outside was a bit more toasted than desired. Inside was good. Good dark chocolate. BUTTER CROISSANT Really buttery, flaky, crispy! Ate it next day, so reheated it in the toaster oven to bring a more crispness all around. Really enjoyed this! Adding butter and jam is so good! LEMON MERINGUE Meringue had a strong eggy smell and flavor, the lemon was tangy, but not enough to rid of the eggy smell and flavor. The tart was hard and almost stale. I took a few bites and threw the rest out. PAIN SUISSE Chocolate flavor. Crispy on the outside, fluffy like a light spongy cake inside. Enjoyed this! CUSTOMER SERVICE Got there early afternoon. There was only one person in front of me. Good service overall. Quick service. Hits and misses of the various pastries I've tried. It will not deter me from trying their pastries though, as the really good ones were really good! Would love to return! Especially for that Choco Chip Pistachio Cookie! LOCATED INSIDE ANOTHER STORE Located inside a store called Floral Palette, which is a floral shop and specialty gift store. Beautiful store! The sign is big, so you cannot miss it!

We walked into a modern space with a clean, inviting layout that makes it easy to stop by for a quick pastry or pick up a few things to share. The selection is one of the biggest draws, with everything from classic Japanese breads to savory items that make it feel like more than just a dessert stop. The display cases are well organized, and the visual appeal of the baked goods adds to the experience before you even order. The pastries are where ASA Bakery really stands out. The curry pan is one of the highlights, with a crisp exterior and a savory filling that makes it a satisfying snack rather than just a bakery item. The croissants are also worth trying, especially the matcha croissant, which has a buttery flaky texture with a matcha filling that adds a slightly earthy flavor without becoming overly sweet. The matcha comes through clearly, and the croissant itself is well laminated, with the right amount of crispness on the outside and a soft, airy interior. The melon pan is another classic option that delivers the soft bread interior and lightly sweet cookie-like topping that makes it a staple in Japanese bakeries, staying true to the traditional version while feeling freshly made. The savory menu adds another reason to visit, especially the katsu sandos. The cutlet sandwiches have a nice balance between the crispy fried filling and the soft bread, making them one of the more memorable items on the menu. The bread stays soft and pillowy, and the cutlet holds its crunch even against the sauce, which is a detail that often gets overlooked. Items like the hojicha latte and other drinks pair naturally with the pastries, making ASA Bakery feel like a place where you can sit down and enjoy a full café break rather than just grab something quickly. The drink menu is thoughtfully curated and complements the baked goods without competing for attention. Service is friendly and the bakery has a welcoming atmosphere, although popular items can sell out depending on when you visit. The staff are knowledgeable about the offerings and happy to guide you through the selection, which is helpful given the range of choices. The shop gets busy, especially during peak hours, so going earlier gives you the best chance to see the full selection. The pace of the visit stays comfortable even when the line forms, and the team handles the flow efficiently. ASA Bakery is a great spot for anyone looking for Japanese-style baked goods with a mix of sweet and savory options. The combination of quality pastries, unique flavors, and a comfortable café setting makes it a place worth returning to, whether you are picking up a quick snack or settling in for a longer break. It delivers on both the familiar classics and the more creative offerings, leaving you with the sense that you have found a bakery that takes its craft seriously.

I really want to give this place another try but for now, my review is for their boba drink. I had…read morea huuuuuge boba craving (as usual) while we were down here and I saw a kid walking around with one! We hunted for it and came across this little kiosk. No line at all, pretty early in the afternoon on a warm, and nice day overall. Surprising to see that it wasn't busier. I went for my usual, Thai tea with boba, just a small size since I was a bit hesitant on it. I should've honestly trusted my gut and went for an iced latte boba instead. The only reason I didn't was because I already had my cold brew coffee in the morning/for the day and didn't want to overdo it. I also should've asked if they brew it fresh.... I should know better by now and here I was, extremely disappointed. My poor drink was not good. I wish I could've finished it but I was struggling. They had reeeeally good chewy boba but the drink itself was nasty. They use powdered Thai tea which is not the way to go, ever. It's missing that strong, Thai tea flavor and honestly just tastes like a weird birthday cake flavor. I was extremely bummed but we plan on visiting again in the near future and will definitely update my review then. I'm sure their coffee drinks are better and I hear they're known for their egg tarts. IG: @ammysalamii

My only regret...not buying more! It's 2 for $6, 5 for $12 or 12 for $22. We got 5…read more I've had the original Portuguese egg tart in Lisbon and in Macau. This is my first in San Diego and it tastes just as good. Portuguese egg tart crusts are made out of puff pastries while Chinese egg tarts are made out of shortcrust casing like a cheesecake crust. The puff pastries makes it flaky and less doughy. The custard is also less eggy and more creamy in the Portuguese version. I also got the Macau Dolgona coffee no boba with half and half. So good! Must try. You have to really stir to mix it all. This kiosk stand is literally between Gap and Banana Republic, more so towards Gap. Make sure to eat it when it's warm and it takes like 3 bites.

If you're looking for fresh delicious French pastries and bread this is the place to be! Wow…read moreeverything I had was so perfect! I knew I had found a good place when I couldn't even find parking in the parking lot on a Saturday morning. There was a line out of the door and most tables outside were occupied. I certainly did not mind waiting one bit when it's good! The variety is big, everything looks so good you want one of everything. From pastries to sandwiches, bread and salads even dressings and also merch! What a hidden gem! Staff is super friendly and very informative. The sweet girl helping me was so nice and was able to answer all of my questions and her suggestions were great. I will be coming back again and again for sure!

this place was recommended to me by a random sweet man while I was shopping at Baron's LOL…read more Overall, the crepes & sandwiches are ok, and pastries are excellent! They have fresh crepes Sat/Sun 8am-1pm! Theres a cute stand outside where you can also watch the crepes being made. Ham, egg, cheese, & spinach crepe (7/10): $8.50 for base crepe + extras for add ons. A bit expensive -- not as authentic as the crepes I've had in France, but they are filled reasonably. Wish they were a little crispier! Turkey avo BLT (7.5/10): didn't blow my mind but I still enjoyed it. Good amount of turkey & avo and you can request it toasted! Chicken curry croissant (9/10): lovedddd the flavor. Raisins added the perfect amount of sweetness. The croissant itself is perfectly buttery and flakey! Apple turnover (8/10): would be perfect if it was a little warmer. Generous amount of filling & I liked that it wasn't too sweet. I'd get this again! Almond croissant (9.5/10): SO GOOD. came fresh out of the oven and was soooo flakey & the filling wasn't overpowered by the almond flavor. I'd get this again!! Jalapeno and cheddar sourdough (9/10): SO fresh & they offer to slice it for you. a little spicy and savory & great to eat on its own too! Will definitely come back to try other pastries! Tip: pay with cash to avoid the $0.50 credit card fee LOL
