Everything is quality here from the desserts to the lunch. A little known thing that I really like here is their cookie shaped like a cat. Their chicken salad is delightful as well as pretty. So healthy! And you can't go wrong with any of their cakes for a special occasion.

My son and I had been wanting to try their almond cake for his birthday. I called had but, unfortunately they were not selling that by the slice that particular day. She did tell me we had mini desserts of it basically like petit fours. We came in and chose two of those as well as a black and white. When we opened the box, it was a very sweet surprise to get an additional mini dessert :-) the almond cake did not disappoint! It was not too sweet, had a subtle almond flavor and a raspberry buttercream complimented with a fresh raspberry on top. Will definitely go back for a full slice when they have it on offer.

Best cakes ever. My favorite bring the Gateau Eileen ... But the vegetarian choices are limited so on Fridays it's hard to eat here and get my protein in. Very quality ingredients always though!

From the first time I tried the almond cake, I knew I needed it at my wedding. Hubby didn't mind what we had, as long as I was happy! I called a month in advance and said I needed a 6inch almond cake, they let me know I could pick up and refrigerate overnight and to give 1 hour to bring the cake to room temperature for serving. I shared the cake with family members but the rest I wrapped in wax paper, put in a ziplock bag, and we shall enjoy it on our first wedding anniversary,

-1 for not pushing the envelope in terms of flavors, variety, and/or presentation. Cute little dessert shop tucked away from the road. When I arrived it seemed they were in the middle of rearranging or otherwise getting ready for the holiday season. They seem to specialize in full custom orders, so the dessert case was smaller than others, as anticipated. The lady at the register was very kind as I came at a very weird time looking for desserts. To go, I got two mini desserts and a single tart. They seemed to also offer slices of cake, but none appealed to me at the time. Prices seem a bit high considering portions, but maybe I'm jaded. Tart was fairly simple berries atop a standard vanilla cream. Mini desserts were good but not necessarily incredible. Nice place potentially for your straightforward flavors and large group cakes, but otherwise not at the top of my list.

Gorgeous bakery located in La Jolla! Decadent desserts! Fresh and delicious! Amazing customer service! Parking is challenging, but worth it!

SLICE OF CAKE KIND OF DAY (4 stars) - FOOD: good - SERVICE: excellent - PRICE: ok - AMBIANCE: bakery shop The shop is tucked in the back of a small plaza. It only has room for maybe 6 people to sit inside; it's cozy. They serve espresso, sell a variety of pastries, mini cakes, slices of cakes, and full cakes. Came specifically for a slice of cake that has been taunting my tastebuds though photos and I had to come try it. GATEAU AILEEN ($12) - Although tall and intimidating, it was very easy to eat in one sitting. The slice tower had four layers of cake divided by fresh fruit. The cake wasn't dense, it was airy and fluffy but a little dry. It reminded me of angel cake but a little dryer. The fresh fruits of strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries and the cream in between each layer added the needed moisture and texture. Forking into the slice and taking a bite with a little bit of everything made it so enticing to keep eating bite after bite. RECOMMEND Will definitely be back to try other slices of cake. JABA APPROVED. Until the next bite...

I stumbled upon this shop when looking for a cake for my husband's birthday. I wanted something that looked beautiful but also tasted amazing. Needless to say- this cake delivered all of the above! The ordering process was super easy. Their website features all of their cake options, different sizes and pricing for each. All you need to do is just call in and place the order. I can't wait to try out their other cakes!!

How sweet are these desserts ? I find pretty much all the desserts in the USA inedible and loaded with sugar. Hoping not catering to American taste buds.

They are not overly sweet-if you're a fan of Paris Baguette/85 degrees bakery, I find her cakes are in line with that level. She uses more of a whipped cream type of frosting vs buttercream.

Do you do baby gender reveal cakes?

    Yes!

Chef Maeve Rochford, the owner of Sugar & Scribe won Season 2 of Food Network's Holiday Baking Championship. She is also known for competing on Food Network's Beat Bobby Flay and Kids Baking Championship. We recommend trying the following: *Butter Poached Lobster Benedict with Poached eggs, Maine Lobster, Arugula, Parsley hollandaise with side of potatoes and bacon. *Blueberry Love Pancakes with blueberry compote, snow sugar and white chocolate mousse. Both orders were excellent 5/5 stars. I tried the Horchata Latte but couldn't really taste the horchata and wasn't sweet enough for me. I wouldn't order this latte again, but maybe y'all would enjoy the flavor better. The restaurant has outdoor seating with heating lamps and welcomes well behaved dogs in their outdoor patio. We had excellent customer service and look forward to coming back! Give this place a try! Happy Yelping :)

The drinks were also fun and beautifully presented. The food, however, was just okay for me. The chicken biscuit and gravy was definitely the highlight and I'd give it a 4/5. The blueberry pancakes were the biggest disappointment. They were much drier than I expected, and while I understand the glitter topping is part of what makes them unique, it just wasn't for me. Overall, the vibes and service were great, but the food didn't quite live up to the hype. I'd give it a 3.5/5. Not a bad experience at all, just not somewhere I'd personally go out of my way to visit again.

5/11/2026 CHOCO CHIP…read morePISTACHIO COOKIE Wow! This was reeeeally good! It was crispy on the outside and slightly chewy on the inside. Lots of chocolate and I think they added toffee in it too. The middle section had pistachio frangipane (or it looked like it) with coarsely chopped pistachios that brought another layer of crunch! Then to top it all off, it had pistachio cream on top of the cookie! I only wish I got another one. CAPPUCCINO It was okay. But love the foam! It was frothy and foamy! PAVLOVA The meringue was a bit too hard and too sweet and the pastry cream was overwhipped. Loved the fresh fig and blueberries though. I was looking forward to eating pavlova and this was very disappointing! KOUIGN AMANN Very buttery and sticky! Crispy on the outside. Every bite was not dry, but chewy. There was this sticky and chewy texture that wasn't unpleasant, yet it wasn't fully flaky like a croissant. But glad it was not dry! The kouign amann was not as tall like others I've tried, but I preferred it this way because it was not dry. The last kouign amann I had from Bread Lounge was dryyyy. But bought mine at a coffee shop too. PAIN AU CHOCOLAT Crispy on the outside, but I must have toasted a bit more, so the outside was a bit more toasted than desired. Inside was good. Good dark chocolate. BUTTER CROISSANT Really buttery, flaky, crispy! Ate it next day, so reheated it in the toaster oven to bring a more crispness all around. Really enjoyed this! Adding butter and jam is so good! LEMON MERINGUE Meringue had a strong eggy smell and flavor, the lemon was tangy, but not enough to rid of the eggy smell and flavor. The tart was hard and almost stale. I took a few bites and threw the rest out. PAIN SUISSE Chocolate flavor. Crispy on the outside, fluffy like a light spongy cake inside. Enjoyed this! CUSTOMER SERVICE Got there early afternoon. There was only one person in front of me. Good service overall. Quick service. Hits and misses of the various pastries I've tried. It will not deter me from trying their pastries though, as the really good ones were really good! Would love to return! Especially for that Choco Chip Pistachio Cookie! LOCATED INSIDE ANOTHER STORE Located inside a store called Floral Palette, which is a floral shop and specialty gift store. Beautiful store! The sign is big, so you cannot miss it!

Everything in the pastry case looked so good it was genuinely hard to choose. All the pastries were super well balanced flavor-wise, and the pastry itself was buttery, flaky, and perfectly baked. The croissant especially was sooo buttery and crisp on the outside while soft inside with the perfect amount of filling. The coffee was also rich, creamy, and delicious, and everything came out surprisingly fast even though it was pretty busy. Not a ton of seating inside and it definitely gets PACKED on weekends, but we managed to snag a little table on the back patio which made it such a cute spot to sit and catch up. However, the food here was painfully mediocre. The panino alle verde was listed on the menu as a tomato and eggplant sandwich with mozzarella and basil. However, it was actually a tomato paste (no actual pieces of tomato found) with small pieces of eggplant sprinkled on top sandwich with a big, cold clump of mozzarella. It was okay taste-wise but charging $15 for such a simple and lackluster sandwich (that one could easily make at home) is insane to me even for San Diego pricing. The vanilla crossiant was so soggy that even the ends were soggy. There was no crunch, no crumbly flakes, just a sad, dense pastry with custard in the middle. The only saving grace of this croissant was the vanilla custard which was creamy, not too sweet, and had a nice vanilla flavor (you could see the vanilla bean specks). However, the custard did not make this croissant worth eating and the only part of the croissant I ate was the custard filling. While I was eating my food, I was surprised at how crowded this place was considering I found the food to be very mediocre. There was a constant line and everyone seemed to be ordering the croissants. I'm not sure if these people were just tourists or regulars whose only reference for baked goods and sandwiches were subway or 7-eleven, but I know that there are tons of better bakeries in San Diego. Even freaking Costco has way better pastries and sandwiches than this place and will not charge you $25 for one small sandwich and one soggy croissant. Note: I found out about this place because I asked A.I. to find "hidden gems" in San Diego. This is what I get for trusting A.I.

When I placed the order, the employee asked if I would like to leave a gratuity. I told her I preferred to wait until I received the order, but she said they only accept tips in advance. I found that surprising, but I went ahead and left the tip anyway, expecting excellent service and attention to detail. The large strawberry cake was disappointing. It contained whole (not sliced) strawberries, (one had the green stem still attached) baked into the cake. Not only was this unexpected, but it also made the cake difficult to slice and serve. And truthfully, it wasn't very enjoyable biting into large whole strawberries. The cake itself was good (but not great), but for something costing close to $100, I expected much better. We also specifically ordered three vegan, gluten-free mini cakes. When my daughter picked up the order, she was told they had forgotten to make them. Instead, they offered gluten-free substitutes and, for the vegan option, a muffin because that was all they had available. She was left with no real choice but to accept the substitutions. Okay, what can we do, but why they didn't make them or call in advance to let us know? The biggest letdown was the response when I called. Rather than acknowledging the mistakes or trying to make things right, I was told that this is simply how they make the strawberry cake and that the substituted desserts were an acceptable replacement. After some back and forth, they offered to refund my tip, but I declined because I didn't feel that was the right thing to do. I also asked whether I could at least receive the missing gluten-free mini cake we had ordered, but was told they couldn't provide one because they didn't know whether the baker was available to make it. Mistakes happen, but when customers spend over $120 on a special-occasion order, you expect better quality and service. Based on my experience, I was disappointed with both the execution of the order and the way my concerns were handled, and I would hesitate to use this bakery again.
