Matt the owner was really welcoming and even gave us a personal tour of the downstairs speakeasy! Bartender Rob was amazing at taking care of our 20+ group and was so fun! Maybe this is harsh but I think Moon Pie is all hype, no substance. The pizza has cracker crust, which I like, but the dough was super bland. With hot honey and peppers and sopresatta, you'd think the pizza would be a flavor bomb but it was just meh and was too greasy and heavy for the thin crust. The Caesar salad, one of my all time favorite things, really had no flavor. I'm not sure if their dressing just sucked or it needed more of it, but I barely ate any because it just wasn't good (I will say, the croutons were tasty though). My friend got a marg - admittedly not the best drink to order at a pizza place - but she said it was one of the worst she's ever had. Probably best just to not have a marg on the menu if it's going to be super mediocre. Service was also really poor. They were kinda low key rude and no one checked on us. It seemed like they were annoyed to be there? Even though there was no one there when we were so it's not like they were crazy busy or something. Usually I don't care if service is meh but this was noticeable. The only reason I gave 2 stars is the ambiance! This place is super nice inside and the outside looks amazing - it was too hot to sit outside when we went, but it was a really nice space for outdoor dining. I had seen how cool this placed on social media and finally made it in this past weekend. Parking was easy to find as there is a parking garage right in front of the entrance. We made it on in and saw the sign that said "seat yourself." A few tables were dirty and still had plates / cups from previous guests so we settled for a corner spot. Our server came over a few minutes later and he was very friendly. He brought us waters and gave us a few minutes to look over the menu. We ordered: Two alcoholic drinks (don't remember the names) One meatball and ricotta pizza The drinks were really good as they were not too strong and went down smoothly. The pizza was delicious! It's not the typical pan crusted pizza, as this one is thin and basically has no crust. It was very flavorful and had a good crisp to it! The meatballs were really good! Overall we had a great time. Today my hubby and I checked out Moon Pie in downtown Phoenix and it didn't disappoint! We ordered drinks and the Meatball and Ricotta pizza and it was delicious! The service was great and the restaurant looked amazing! The only negative was there were flies buzzing around but it's because it's an open concept style restaurant. Moon Pie was incredibly mediocre. We - party of three - were starving and looking to satisfy our cravings for some good za. Here's the quick & dirty: * Ordered a Caesar salad for the table - it had barely any dressing or flavor; the undertone of anchovy tasted off * Ordered a Chicagoland Pizza, featuring sausage, parmesan and giardiniera (an Italian pickled vegetable relish which I didn't think fit - better on a classic New Orleans Muffuletta sandwich) * Ordered a Veggie Pizza, featuring quality toppings of pesto, pistachios, arugula and ricotta cheese (so something tasted good) But the base of this pizza, the very foundation? The crust was horrible: thin and flavorless. I read that this is supposed to be "Chicago tavern-style pizza," but I have a hard time believing that this is what they're serving there! I've been in here a couple of times. The first time I had the white pizza, stuffed jalapeños and Caesar salad. The jalapeños were ok. The salad was pretty good too, but I'm just not a fan of the pizzas. They're too thin and crispy for me. Similarly this last time I got the whipped ricotta and the muffuletta. The ricotta was delicious, but I probably would have preferred a different kind of bread than the thin crostinis. I enjoyed the muffuletta though. It was really filling and the bread was delicious. The best things about Moon Pie are the large outdoor patio with seating and trees and the service has always been really good. I've come here a few times and I think overall I would solely return for the ambiance. I do like that it's conveniently located in downtown Phoenix however it's unfortunate that they don't validate parking. Every time I come it hasn't been crowded and perhaps maybe that could be a consideration to draw more people than street parking or the garage. The pizza itself inside what I am gravitated towards. It is too thin crust for me. What I did enjoy was the whipped ricotta and meatballs which I would get again. I love the fact that it is great outdoor seating and very family friendly which is the major draw since I have two little ones. Overall, is it my first choice? No. But would I return? The ambiance was pretty cool, right in downtown Phoenix. The service was a bit slow but it could be that we were the first customers and they were still getting ready. The pizza was good, but the crust was a little burnt. It tasted like a St Louis style pizza minus the Provel cheese. It was very thin with a cracker like crust. Love the aesthetics - the greenery and the greenhouse feel, along with those beautiful lights on the ceiling. There is a very expansive patio with lots of tables, and both misters and fire pits to cover all seasons. The menu looks rather small but offers lots of options ranging from salads to pizzas, subs, appetizers and desserts. You may or may not find parking easily - it's downtown Phoenix and that can be hit or miss. There is a parking structure right next to this establishment, it's $5 per hour. I'm not sure if the business validates parking stubs or not, we just got a metered spot a couple blocks away. Service was very friendly and quick, but we went on a Tuesday around 6 pm. It was not crowded. Don't know how busy it gets on Fridays or on weekends. The food was excellent. If you like thin crust pizza, you're in luck. My friends enjoyed the hot honey pizza. I had a make-your-own pizza, which was very tasty. We also had the garlic bread. I was clearly too distracted by my surroundings to think of taking photos of the food. This is a new restaurant where Teddy's Preserve used to be. It has a great outside area with many different options for seating. Service was decent. The jalapeños were very salty. The Caesar salad had way too much dressing which made the lettuce limp. The white pizza just had no real flavor at all. Love the huge patio! Much better than Teddy's Preserve IMO. Lovely server - super friendly and smiley. I'm a huge fan of crust so this pizza wasn't for me but would be great for someone who is a fan of thin crust. The stuffed jalapeños were quite different than what you find everywhere else which was really fun. Moon Pie inhabits the old Teddy's Preserve space at Central and Portland. We arrived Friday night around 7pm. No wait - seated inside. The menu is not large, but cover a fair bit of options. We ended up on just ordering some pizza and cocktails. Our choices were the Hot Honey and the Chicagoland. Both were delicious! The crust is really thin and crispy. The Hot Honey is cured Italian meat and hot honey - really, really good. The Chicagoland is sausage, fennel and giardiniera - also delicious. Service was great! I can't say enough about the new regime at Moon Pie. I've had poor service in the past at this spot, but the new management seems to sincerely care about the customer experience. There are so many options nearby so that matters to me. I've had several iterations of their pizza and all are satisfying and delicious. The drinks I've ordered have been right on the money in relation to flavors, portion and price. My favorite feature at Moon Pie is the atmosphere; at the bar; high top in bar, dining table inside the restaurant, dining table on the outer side of bar, cozy couch seating in the lobby with pillows and coffee tables, giant comfy patio furniture, or dining and pub tables outside in the courtyard. The courtyard is clean, shaded in some places and sunny in others with clean synthetic grass. So many options to find your perfect spot. I can't wait to have a reason to have a party here! read more

The pizza was super salty and the crust is thin which I normally like but this was more like thin frozen pizza you make at home. The salad was good. Beer was fine. Came in on a friday night, My hopes were so high for this spot but unfortunately wouldn't come back for seconds. Espresso Martini was good perfect amount of foam. Frozen marg was very tart and sour. It was pretty slow for a friday night which was unexpected. Stuffed Jalapeños I was very excited for although the prosciutto threw the flavor off. I had to deconstruct the Jalapeños to eat the rest of it. Meatballs were very meaty, no flavor whatsoever and tough. We watched them scoop the meatballs onto the cast iron skillet from hot pans which is basically what Subway, Jersey mikes does. Pizza was a good size however just not very appetizing. Went to eat here after our first Friday adventure and it's a very nice place. We ordered our food and was charged right away per our bank statement. Food came and it was bland, no flavor just two plain meatball sandwiches no fries or nothing with it. Two subs n two drinks came out to $67, OUTRAGEOUS prices. After eating we leave and another charge for $15.50 was charged. We go to ask about it and we're yelled at saying we walked out on our bill but we were charged already so we're not understanding how that was considered walking out. The bartenders took it upon themselves to charge a $15 tip. Two days later, we're getting another $15 charge. At this point, I'd just want all my money back for this horrible food and experience. I'll work with the bank and hopefully have this fixed but never again and I'll make sure no one else I know has to experience this read more

Went in for lunch and sat in the bar to watch football. There was a handful of people there, and we were greeted and served quickly and efficiently. We had poppers which were delayed as the first batch was burned, we had no issues with it and they were tasty when they came. We appreciated the honesty. Stopped by last week with a friend, a little tricky to find. They don't really have a store front but non the less I found it. Me & friend ordered 1 pizza each, not really great. For pizza being their main point, I was expecting more. My friend's pizza had pepperoni and it was definitely giving grocery store mini pepperonis. Quality was just not there for $15. Pizza is 5 stars really yummy! Service is awful. We sat at the bar and we were the only 2 people there and the place wasn't busy. We ordered two pizzas. She brought them out and no plates or place settings. We asked for plates and then went and found our own place settings. First trip to Moon Pie and we loved it! So glad we gave it a try despite the mediocre reviews. I don't get it. They're great. It's unique in that you order at the bar and they come find you with your food, but it was cool getting to pick our own seat. Their space is really cool, both inside and out--we chose outside because it was a lovely day. The bartender, Bradley, was amazing. Very helpful with recommendations and very attentive. We built our own thin crust pizza and loved it. We also tried the arugula salad and while I'm not one for fruit in my salad, the strawberries we an amazing touch and it was all perfectly balanced (we added crispy prosciutto, per Bradley, and loved it!). We'll look forward to coming back! We really enjoyed it! Oh, good beer on tap, too! They had at least 3 IPA selections on tap which was nice! I'd post a pic but we ate it all too fast. read more
