I had a very good experience with Moon Valley Nurseries in Escondido on Mesa Rock. You know the ads that they have about "You buy it, we plant it"? It's true! Codie, who works there, helped me find the a Crepe Myrtle tree that was the right look, size and price for us, all over the phone and through text & pictures, which saved me a lot of time because I didn't have to go to the nursery to look. (I only went to the nursery 1 time to pick up a flag needed to mark the dig location for 811.) Codie was very helpful, polite & patient with everything. The only issue I incurred was not receiving my paid invoice because it got lost in the shuffle so I had to keep following up, but this was a back office issue, not his fault, and I finally did receive the invoice. The day of the tree delivery and installation, everything went very smooth and just I was told it would go. Michael, who was in charge of the delivery crew was also very nice and kept me in the loop on what they were doing and even had me approve which side of the tree I wanted facing our home. The tree looks great and they cleaned everything up when they left so there was no mess for us. I would definitely recommend Moon Valley if you are looking for any type of tree or plants. read more

We just completed landscaping around a new pool and we had a great experience working with Daniel throughout the process. We visited without really knowing what we wanted to do and Daniel spent as much time as we needed driving the property looking for plants and he made some great recommendations that we are really happy with. He stayed in constant communication about delivery dates and was flexible when we needed to make changes to the dates. Daniel was really proactive and has followed up several times to be sure we are 100% happy with the result. The team that came out to install was also professional and did a great job making sure we were happy with the installation and they accommodated some day of changes for us. The big advantage here is that we could see live different options at different ages and visualize how it would look in our yard. He came up with an estimate to fit our budget. We had done research with other sources and found MV prices to be competitive. When reading reviews complaining of prices, remember you pay more for older, larger items. read more

We had an absolutely AMAZING experience with Moon Valley Nurseries. From A to Z, everything was perfect. We bought the tree from Andrew the salesman. He was friendly, professional, and very helpful. We chose the perfect Magnolia tree of our dreams! It was delivered on schedule a week later, everything was communicated well to us, and there were zero issues with install. We visited the Escondido location recently and met with Phillip about about a replacement warrantied 48 spec fruitless olive that did not survive the heavy rains this year. Service was excellent, and even though this was a replacement, we did not feel rushed or steered to an inferior tree. What we purchased: Several palm varietals, several Large Birds of Paradise, and several Tequila Agave Experience: Hands-down, ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL! Having a background in design, I mocked up a rendering of our phase 1 landscape design. Ken came out, took measurements of our land, and spent some extensive time chatting with my husband and I about how to perfect our design. He was extremely attentive to our vision and had so much knowledge to provide on the entire process, from picking out the right varietals, costs, care, and planting. We had the opportunity to pick out all of our own trees. It was such a personal experience, which we valued, so very much! We can totally vouch on the superb quality of our trees as well. Everything looked so healthy and beautiful! We felt like we were definitely getting our money's worth; albeit expensive BUT top-of-the line. Ken was also able to work with us on tweaking the pricing a bit since we were purchasing such a large quantity of plants! Once we picked out our beauties, Tyler and his team came out. Man oh man do these guys have incredible work ethic! They were on our property from morning till night. Every installation was done PERFECTLY. Attentiveness prevailed once again, as Tyler spent the day taking my husband through every process of the install. It's a huge nursery and I'm sure their plants are all good, but it's not a place for a home owner to just browse. The smallest trees are something like 15 gallons. All citrus trees had a tons of fruits on them. If I was to have a major backyard makeover, I would go back there. Otherwise, I will stick to Walter Anderson's nursery's. read more

We really enjoyed our interaction with Moon Valley while shopping and purchasing our triple palm tree. The selections can be a little overwhelming but after showing the team the area we wanted a palm tree in, and what our thoughts were, they took us right to an area of the palm trees we would need. we spent some time looking at the options and were very pleased. The crew that came in to plant the tree was amazing. I was fully prepared to sweep and hose down the side walks and walkways and they did it ALL. We really didn't have to lift a finger. It was great! I highly recommend. We did go over our budget by a few hundred dollars, but it was worth every dollar to have the planting crew and delivery! they also took the time to explain to us after planting how to care for the tree to keep it from going into shock. Never again. Saw this place off the 15 and decided to stop in. There is a massive yard with golf carts to take you around to all the trees. We couldn't seem to find any one to help us until finally my husband made friends with the head gardener who was very knowledgeable. The prices are OUTRAGEOUS. We ended up springing for a nice magnolia anyway because of the free planting and warranty. Ends up there is actually a $100 delivery charge that you don't hear about until they are already holding your credit card. We waited for 2 weeks until it could be planted. When they finally showed up they accidentally broke our sprinkler main (understandable it happens). Instead of having someone fix it or notifying us they attempted to shove a 3/4" PVC inside the 1/2" line because they had no materials on hand to fix the line and didn't bother to go get any. Additionally they left our water shut off because they couldn't figure out how to turn it back on. We had to have the water company out to fix it. Needless to say 2 days after they planted it I came out to find water coming up out of my grass. I called them-no answer. We had to shut off the main to our house (again) and were forced to fix it ourselves that night so we could restore water to the house. I bought all the correct parts, dug up the line, and put in a proper fix. Again I called to follow up on what happened. I had to call at least 3 times before I got a response. I was offered $150 store credit...most trees are $3000 or more. No thanks. I was given my $100 delivery fee back. I asked if they could fix my lawn which by now is a giant muddy disaster. They said they would come by and never came or called. I will continue to follow up. Needless to say it was a horrible experience and I NEVER recommend this place to anyone. The tree itself looked like the hadn't watered it in the 2 weeks since we picked it out. It was obviously damaged during delivery since a lot of the leaves were blown off. This was a horrible experience and they did nothing to try to make things right. If you are thinking you are paying for quality you are mistaken. Don't let them touch anything in your yard you will regret it. I will now have to patch my lawn somehow and most likely pay an astronomically high water bill since it ran for 2 days before we figured out what had happened. The least they could have done is tell us so we could fix it right ourselves. read more

We then met him at the Moon valley nursery ,he took his time showing us around. The place is neat and beautiful,we picked some trees made an appointment to install them. Shaun was very helpful patient , nice and respectful. The people who came to install the trees were very nice, the person who was in charge his name was Clay ,very ,very nice person, his crew worked all day installing all the trees and make sure we have no leaks. We had a great experience with Moon Valley Nurseries. It was my first time there, and the place was overwhelming in a good way. Our sales guy Andrew was incredibly knowledgeable and easy to work with. So good, we ended up buying 26 plants and trees. They ended up planting a month early, which was a great surprise. We arrived for our appointment with Julia Witt and were very impressed with the fact that she had thought about what type of shade tree we were looking for and took us directly to her suggested trees. If I had read S F's yelp review prior to going I might not have been so appalled at the sales tactics. As soon as we stepped out of the car we were approached by a gentleman who offered to help. It felt a little "funny", but got really weird when one of the 1st questions out of his mouth was "what is your budget?" I think the correct question would have been, "where is the tree getting planted....what type of soil....how big do you want it to be....are their issues with why the tree died in the 1st place???/!!!!!" I had done research prior to arriving and knew that a tree had died due to clay soil, poor drainage and possible salt toxicity. But when I relayed this to the guy he promptly said that they guarantee their trees and amend soil, etc. Well, the tree that I am replacing has been there for 7 years but dying a slow tragic death. I doubt moon would replace a tree if that was occurring. Anyway, the budget question threw me off. When I go to a nursery I want to talk to someone who has extensive knowledge of plants and I didn't feel I was getting that. Can't speak to the price we were quoted as I need to comparison shop. I hope I find it cheaper somewhere else because I wasn't impressed with this place. read more

If you want to 100% guarantee that your experience with large scale planting is done with meticulous precision, over-the-top customer interaction and extreme safety, work with Mike Falco, and his crew, Cruz Sanchez, Wilfredo Mojica, and Esau Bonia. In fact, please request them and let me tell you why: I initially worked with an inside salesperson, and although sweet and kind, the expertise just wasn't up to snuff. The trees were 20 footers, and she thought they could be carried in when she came to a site visit. That was not the case. Mike Falco , and Sean agreed the only way in was by crane. Mike Falco came today with his superb crew, and with such polite esprit de corps, he managed the neighbors and mitigated any worries about access right away. Probably got a bunch of new customers too! Mike Falco is the type of person every boss dreams of having. Mike has laser precision leadership skills. The way he interacted with me , and his crew and my Gardner were all the same. Good solid Midwestern values that seem rare today. Mike treats everyone like family. Made sure the olive trees were positioned to my satisfaction and were careful with irrigation and landscape lighting, even while dealing with the challenges of working around a pool and tight spacing. This place is huge. I told Andrew when I called that I wanted Pygmy palms and I'm in the beginning phases of starting my landscaping project. We meet Andrew we drive around a small area of the property after Andrew realize that I will not be purchasing items because I'm in the beginning phase he immediately returns to the front entrance and tells us we are more than welcome to drive around. I bought 7 ficus tree from moon valley on December 2021and yes they were pricey but they were nice and large and what I was looking for I did get delivered on February because I had to canceled for January. Today Danny r. And his team came to plant all trees and he called me 30 min before he was arriving he was really professionally since the phone call and when he got here with his team and until he left. Update: We were able to get in touch with the new management at Moon Valley San Diego Nursery today. Rick Fox listened to our story of this Jacaranda that just never did well and without hesitation said, "Let's get you a new Jacaranda." My wife is out of town, so I headed up to Moon Valley San Diego Nursery, which serves San Diego and surrounding areas from North Escondido, to meet with Manager Rick Fox and pick out the replacement Jacaranda tree. A 48" box tree, which requires a crane or other lifting equipment, was what we had purchased, but it was my assumption that they'd try to replace our tree with a smaller tree, or have us pay for an upgrade. To my surprise, none of this happened! I met Manager Rick Fox once I arrived and jumped in a nice Kubota for the ride out to the 48" box tree area, Rick is one of the nicest, most respectful, most helpful guys I've had the pleasure of meeting in along time. This was really an enjoyable experience, such a big culture change has taken place at this location, it was evident in the state of the nursery grounds. Everything was organized, product shelves were stocked, no trash or clutter anywhere. Some we picked out an amazing 48" box tree to replace our poor Jacaranda that unfortunately didn't make it and went back to the office to write it up; again, no tricks, just great customer service, how about this date for us to install the tree, do you think we need a crane or will a reach lift work. At no point did Rick ask me to pay for anything. Truly this was amazing in today's corporate world. I hope this is standard procedure for all of the Moon Valley locations. Rick did ask me what else we needed for our home, and we need many more plants, bushes, flowers, pottery, and maybe even a few more trees I told him, but we left it for another day. Our trees got planted, but the included Moon Juice fertilizer that was to be included with our order was not available because they had forgotten it. The crew chief told me it would be dropped off within a few days. That was Aug 25th and we have not seen it. In addition, we had some questions about our trees that were never answered, by our sales rep or his manager. I sent an email to the CEO of Moon describing our experience. He never responded. We spent $50 on dinner for the Moon crew when they were finished. Once they had our money, we no longer existed.
