Best selection of Aloha shirts that I found when I visited Maui, and we went to TONS of stores. I loved that everything in the store is also made in Hawaii. As a resident on Maui for 25y , I rarely visit tourist stops for anything...But i wanted a Gift for a relative in japan so i stopped by MoonBow tropics in Paia , they have a nice selection of Hawaiian Style shirts Sadly most made in China or Korea The location of the Maker of the shirts is not what bothers me.. Its the Staff a bunch of young girls who know nothing about customer service and are just playing with their phones...they act like they could care less if you are there and make NO effort to be engage in a my buying experience! With the Economic downturn upon us it would seem that the focus would be on getting me to spend my money and as much of it as i can , but no i was left to wonder the shop UN-approached and i had to interrupt the phone sessions to get question answered. Cool place. Greg is amazing. I stopped into Moonbow topics looking for hawaiian shirts. Their is quite a selection of hawaiian apparel for both men and women. Greg was great on also giving a bit of history on his store and other areas in Hawaii. Although there was a nice selection, I am more into 100% cotton and more of a short that has water, ships, palm trees which Greg was nice enough to give me direction on where to find them. I don't go for the Tom Selleck / Magnum PI Hawaiian shirts, they're just not my thing. But I walked past the store in Paia and saw a shirt that fit my style. Good quality fabric, tasteful and playful design, and a pretty good price (for that quality of shirt). They are made in Hawaii so it's worth it for me to pay an extra 20 bucks or so to keep it local. Wife picked up a very flowy pair of pants that are made in Italy. They're beautiful. read more

This is a great place to find a vintage or high end Hawaiian shirt, the kind you can actually wear on the mainland and not feel like you are donning the $9.99 tourist shirt of ABC stores. We stopped in this shop and were greeted by a fabulous salesperson. He was super helpful as we were trying to find something for my father in law who adores his Tommy Bahama. We previously stopped at the tb in Wailea but I couldn't bring myself to buy a shirt in Hawaii that is exactly what I could buy in a local San Diego macys. Still we needed high-quality fabric and something stylish and muted enough that he could wear it to the office. Thanks to the guy running the store, we found the perfect thing! He even knocked $50 off the price so my husband got one too! I loved how this old skool shop was one of the first retailers to sell Tommy Bahama but they actually stopped when it got too mainstream. Instead, you can pick up Nat Nast, Toes on the Nose, or Tori Richard. Or take some time to look through the vintage styles! read more

She helped us find some items on sale and gave her opinions, which were all helpful! I love how all of the jewelry is made locally by the owners of the store! Wonderful high quality shirt. My husband and I bought one there on our third day here and he can't get enough of it. Soft to the touch, light enough for the Hawaiian heat and beautifully designed. I absolutely loved my shopping experience at Moonbow Tropics, everyone was very friendly and helpful. My husband and I purchased clothing on the advice of the employees and they are high quality and VERY comfortable to wear. I visit the area twice a year and have quite a few friends that do also and I am wholeheartedly recommending Moonbow Tropics as a MUST. I have read some of the other reviews and I cannot see any reasonable explanation as to why someone would give anything other than a glowing review. As I have said I have had NO problems whatsoever but then again some are not gifted with domestic abilities when it is thrust upon them, with their overspending and the depleting economy. read more

The associate (sorry I forgot your name!) called the other store, confirmed they had the size in stock, and arranged to ship it all the way to Boston at no extra cost! I live on Maui and do all of my gift buying for my husband, brothers and dad here at Moonbow Tropics. The shirts and shorts are fabulous. I always find just the right thing for them here. There is a ladies store across the street- I have clothing from there that ranges from this past christmas ( My hubby knows where to shop for me too) about 9 years ago. I still wear it all. i guess i got my moneys worth. Some one mentioned the clothing and jewelry were pricey, but I do not think so. A few of the items are upperscale- (a brand called nic and zoe) but there are LOTS of cool items- i love the XCVI- so comfy and cute. The tees are so soft- and long sleeve. lots of other brands i can't think of at the moment. I got a great handpainted leather purse there too. The jewelry is handmade there at the shop or in their artists studio- The stones are gorgeous, as stated below in another review. They are high end gems without the high end price. The owners make the jewelry themselves, so there is no middle man markup. That is what the girl told me when I was asking why the prices were so good on the jewelry. heather Recently returned from yet another wonderful visit to the island of Maui - every visit is always enhanced by shopping at my favourite store on the island - it's easy to do since there are 2 locations in Paia, 1 in Lahaina and 1 in Wailea. Each store sells several lines of fabulous clothing, beautiful jewellery designed and hand made on Maui and an assortment of unique items that vary from store to store. And the best part.....the true aloha spirit that is a delightful part of every visit. The business is family owned and run - they are lovely people and so is their staff. I love this store. Essentially, I love it for the locally made jewelry, but I have also purchased a few clothing items. The jewelry keeps me coming back. Handmade, wire wrapped pendants in silver or gold, of the most gorgeous stones you will find anywhere (natural stones like moonstones, spectralite, gaspeite, star ruby, etc.). I always buy pendants for myself and for others as gifts. Make a trip to one of their stores and find something for yourself before I buy everything next time I am in Hawaii! read more

In March purchased a pair of shorts XCVI ALISA1 SHORT (S#XCV12009, I# 2555997) for $88.00 In Paia. Wore tham once and seam at the back was falling apart. Exchanged them for another pair in Wailea and had same problem. My daughter who was in Maui in April bought another pair and I returned the damaged pair costing me $8 for shipping. Once they recived the shipped pair they reimbursed her. Third pair that she bought same thing after one wear in each case. Needless to say I am not a happy Canadian and am sure if I bought a $10 pair of shorts they would have lasted longer. read more
