Made the reservation a month in advance and confirmed it twice afterwards (on their advice), yet when we showed up the hostess said we were an hour early and we could wait in the bar. The bar is TINY - much too small for waiting an hour with three children - and for sure no place to stand for anyone. Did I mention it was 5:30 on a Thursday and the place was near-empty? After one hostess gave us a long speech about how we would "overwhelm the kitchen" if we were seated now, and should put in our children's order "first" (we didn't want to rush so we declined), another hostess let us sit outside on the nearly empty deck where "all the tables are reserved." (I had asked a month ago for a table with an ocean view). It is now two hours later, we are seated to eat near the noisy kitchen and the deck is still about 25% full. The menu is very limited. The $40+ scallops were so shrunken, tough and fishy - (they actually smelled and tasted "off" in that old fish way). When I said that to the waiter before I sent them back, he commented, "you must be a scallops connoisseur." I sent them back for a bowl of chowder - with no discernible clams, but plenty of potatoes and bacon. The "medium" steak was well done. The chimichurri had a bite so strong it masked the flavor of the meat. The broccoli-potato au gratin was buried under an inch of tough cheese that no one ate - not even the kids - (we'd ordered two). The kids complained that the steamed broccoli was bitter. The Mahi was so spicy my grandson had to chase every bite with water. This restaurant tries too hard to be trendy with their limited menu and has forgotten what good food needs to taste like. We asked for a candle in my grandson's dessert- three times - once on the phone a week before we came (and were assured we could have it), and asked again when we ordered. It came without one. Not a big deal, but typical of the night. By now I've given up. The wait staff is pleasant. The hostesses clueless. This is 100% a tourist trap that should have been a lovely evening at $300. I should have tried for an ordinary fresh-fish spot and not tried to focus so much on ambiance that we didn't get anyway. read more

This is not on food, just on host and manager It was 420 pm. We asked if they serve any chicken dish. He didn't know, all he did was hand us a lunch menu. There is only one "chicken dish" with shrimp and ham. She doesn't eat either So we asked to see the manager. She apparently was busy for 10 minutes fixing an order that was bad. We explained what we needed. A plain chicken dish or pasta dish. She offered a kids pasta. Dinner menu not available until 5 pm (only 40minutes later). Can they modify any chicken dish? No couldn't accommodate ANY modifications . Very expensive menu but not expansive. But owner needs to train this " manager " to manage. We went elsewhere. read more

Lovely dinner there last fall. Interesting menu, and if you are unsure, they can leave the sauces off and offer on the side of some dishes. We started with the baked shrimp which were tender and tasty. Mom had the salmon entree opting for the sauce, at that time, on the side, Harissa if I recall correctly, which was a wise choice for her taste but I liked the sauce. I did the shrimp and grits and really enjoyed it. Hubby did the blackened grouper and enjoyed it. The truffle fries where a hit. Enjoyed the dessert. Only negative was the long wait for my husband's cocktail which was watered down by the time it got delivered. Service was slow to start but rebounded nicely. read more

To start let me tell you that it is expensive! As an example, we took some drinks on the Upper Deck, for four glasses of wine and one mixed drink. The bill came to $59. Our dinner bill came to $80 for two people. The food was good, the ambience was nice and the service was probably the best part it was impeccable. If you're looking to celebrate, I want a nice place to go. This is the place. But then again be ready to break out the Benjamins cause you're gonna need it.!! read more

I was bemused by the name as a classic film "A Hobson's Choice" (The definition of which is no good choice) included a local watering hole called "Moonrakers!" Naturally, I was delighted to be here and came with a rather large party. We received excellent treatment as well, as Moonrakers was designed to please with its outdoor seating overlooking the water and its fresh seafood. Honestly, I can't remember what I had that day but I do recall the adult beverages were better than average, the food was delicious and the service was spot on. Furthermore, I was here just as the Summer crowd was leaving...which made for an unhurried dining affair. I just couldn't be happier! And, when I return to the Outerbanks (and I will be back), you can bet I'll be at Moonrakers! read more

The service here was horrible, walked into an 85% empty restaurant and should have left after they asked us to wait 15 min while they put some tables together. While everyone was standing around we should have just left. steaks all over cooked, medium rare came out well done... placed orders for multiple apps and side dishes yet when we questioned why we were missing items it was only then when they decided to tell us that what we wanted was out and they don't do one of those sides anymore... what ? Though this was my first visit, based on the other reviews, a little bit of time and experience has really done this place well as we thoroughly enjoyed our meal here! We started our evening on the rooftop bar area. It was actually quite cold out, but we had jackets and wanted the view, so we ordered drinks at the bar downstairs and made our way up to the top for some privacy. During warmer months, this looks like it will be open with it's own bar. The views are incredible up here, and there is traditional table seating as well as outdoor sofas and cushioned chairs. A great spot to grab a drink, and the quality of the cocktails is excellent as well. Like most things here, they are a bit expensive, but the price is on par with the experience they are going for... a bit more high class. In general, the restaurant itself is a stunning property with a fully open kitchen. Our dinner reservations were honored once a table was available, and before our scheduled time since we were ready for it. They actually hold a table here, instead of just putting you on a list. Our waitress promptly tended to us, got our drink and wine orders out expeditiously, and appetizers came along in short order. My appetizer was a bowl of clam chowder, and boy oh boy it was goooooood stuff. Nice and thick, rich flavor, lump clam meat could be found throughout and it was served with tasty oyster crackers. There was also bread for the table with house churned butter, how could that be bad right? It wasn't. For dinner, a variety of entrees were ordered. Mine was the Cioppino, not something I had ordered anywhere before, but the best I could describe it was that it was like an upper crust low country boil. That evening it featured red snapper, grouper, mussels, and shrimp cooked in a very flavorful brother with onion, cherry tomatoes, fennel, and potatoes. The only things that didnt hit the mark was the potatoes, they were underdone. No problem. Everything else was perfect, especially that all important broth that flavored everything. I got to try a few things around the table, all fish dishes were excellent, though I was not a fan of the coconut shrimp skillet. It was just too sweet for my liking, but the person who ordered it enjoyed it. They ordered collard greens with theirs and that was a great choice. Overall, this is a great dining experience for Beaufort to have, and I'll certainly be back on special occasions. It's a bit pricey to eat there often at roughly 30-40 per person with a single alcoholic beverage, but if you're trying to make a memorable evening, they will deliver. read more

Don't know why this place has a low rating, it was one of the best meals I've ever had. 60 South salmon was delicious and so filling! Catch of the day was tuna made with an incredible chicken broth and miso jasmine rice. Another killer dish: kale Caesar salad. We showed up for a drink at 3PM after a walk through the nearby beach and Ft. Macon. The hostess seemed disinterested and said we should go to the bar. After getting there and ordering a drink, we went outside to enjoy the beautiful warm Spring weather on the deck. There were several other people doing the same. All of us were surprised at how no staff came out! Finally around 3:45, the hostess came out and said they'd be serving dinner at 4! So one star off for assuming, and not telling us, that there was no service in the afternoon. In fact, the upper deck wasn't open at all because of staff shortage, but I think everyone understands that. We did enjoy great service from Taylor, who was professional, friendly, and gave us good recommendations on wines. We enjoyed the hummus, but added carrots and celery because the lavash crackers didn't last! Because it was a bit early, we both shared the beautiful and tasty "60 South" Salmon! Very different side dishes, but an interesting addition to the salmon, which was cooked perfectly. Taylor kind of talked us into the Carrot Cake, which had all the usual ingredients, but included pineapple- excellent!! I'll give it two stars for location and view. My first impression was "Finally--a craft cocktail menu in Beaufort!" I ordered the Spi-Sea Fresca. But it was not spicy in the least. There were zero notes of jalapeño, and nothing of the tequila came through. No tajin on the rim. Not even a hint of acid from lime. It tasted like straight cucumber syrup, and reminded me of my mom's Mindoro drinks from the 1980s. It was barely drinkable, and everyone in our party (who each ordered a different drink) agreed that their drinks were the worst they'd had since college. My husband ended up going back for a second beverage, but just ordered a whiskey, neat. They didn't seem to know what to do with that, and he had to explain. We visited the rooftop of this restaurant. Especially for the terrific views ! We ordered drinks and the Parmesan fries . It was busy but we soon were able to get a table with a great view. Server was sweet and great and suggested great drinks. The Brut Rose was one of the best I've had. The conundrum red blend was a good size pour and delicious my friend said, and the champagne was great. The fries came with herbs on them and Parmesan with a siracha ketchup. They were crunchy on the outside and I couldn't stop eating them . We didn't want to dinner but we did want dessert, they had a great variety. We chose the Key lime pie and flourless chocolate cake. Both fantastic choices. The key lime was one of the best I've ever had, creamy and smooth, and buttery crust. Fabulous. Rich as the chocolate Cake was we finished it, served with vanilla ice cream and crushed hazelnuts, all three together were so good and chocolaty. My wife and I are calling this visit a 3.5. The location is wonderful, the facility is new and full of class. The staff was very attentive, knowledgeable, and did not push us on any entrees. The presentation of the food was amazing but that was the where it stopped. My wife had the chicken and I had the salmon. The presentation was amazing but the food was just OK. Nothing special; nothing to make me want to return. And, frankly, the price points are high. I get it, the location, the beautiful sunset, the terrific drinks all drive the price points but the food just fell short. Since we are here on vacation we cannot quickly give it another try. Had a wonderful dinner with my family here while on vacation. Everyone enjoyed their dishes, but for me the standout was the speckled trout they had as the catch of the day. It was so good that I would come back to visit Beaufort just as an excuse to have it again. My wife and I also enjoyed our Mai Tai's before dinner. Service is nonexistent everything takes an enormous amount of time. The only good thing is the view if you're in a good table.

The food was just excellent! It had a range of flavours from spice to sweet to herbs. The service was a little incomplete. We were missing forks and knives and plates for the appetizers but our waiter was very nice. We sat outside and it was very nice! It was not to loud. The bathroom was very sanitary and so was the restraunt. I highly suggest getting the Wipped Feta and the wings.
