Great pizzas. Their crust is flavorful and chewy and toppings are fresh. The veggie burger was so so. Nice outdoor seating, awesome if you're walking the dogs and stopping for lunch. Omg their Chocolate Chewy cookie was sooo good. I loved how soft the inside was and how it melts in your mouth...it wasn't too sweet so it was perfect. I wanted more! I also tried their Chocolate Chip cookie, but I thought that was too sweet because they had too many chocolate chips. I guess it was too chocolatey for me anyway. Dropped in here after having lunch down the street. They had a great selection of cakes, miniature cakes, breads, cookies, etc. I also noticed a lunch menu - a plus for your average bakery. Anyway, we ordered peanut and chocolate cookies, hazelnut cookies, and raspberry half moon cookie. We thoroughly enjoyed all of our sweet treats. An added bonus was that they accepted credit cards. We would have stopped at the bakery closer to our car, but they were cash only. Glad we walked further down the strip. read more

I don't know where to start. This place is horrible! Starting off with customer service even from the OWNERS! This place gets worse and worse ! Idk how the business has not shut down from talking to the employees they say it's bad working there and makes sense on why they have low employees. I've never eaten a meal at this place but we always stop here for their cookies, cupcakes and pastries. Their ham and cheese croissants and the chocolate croissants are to die for but you have to go early because they go fast. My three year old loves the chocolate frosted cupcakes and the sugar moon cookies. The meringues and jam filled thumbprints are done well too. read more

My wife and I have been here a couple of times. The last time I had the veggie burger, and it was different from any other veggie burger ever (in a good way). One thing I like is that with my sandwish they also gave a side dish and a big piece of papaya. The fruit was a nice touch! If you like pastries, they have a good selection. I love coming here for breakfast on the weekends. I usually just grab a coffee and a foccaccia which they make in their wood burning oven. Today I had a breakfast pizza with sunny side up eggs, and tomatoes. It is more then enough to split and was wonderful. The ordering process is a little slow as people are preoccupied with staring into the pastry cases, in which everything looks amazing. The Moonside Café is a nice place to have lunch. Their staff is friendly and the service was fast. We had a Cesar chicken salad and a mozzarella, eggplant, bell peppers and tomatoes sandwich that were pretty good but the best was the chocolate macaroon. read more

We stopped by for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon so not too busy. Tried the Cucumber feta salad (ok but the bread it came with was Fantastic), the grilled mushroom sandwich (Fantastic!!) and the pesto veggie pizza (good). The bread on all stood out and then I found out it is baked in house and often during the day so as to offer fresh bread all the time!! Although the front of the bakery / cafe looks small, it has a large patio style seating at the back which made for a nice pleasant meal. Service at the counter could be better as they never smiled and any questions were met with a frown and displeasure. Only downside to the visit. read more

My boyfriend and I were on a vacation in California November, 2014. We had some extra time before our flight and stumbled across Half Moon Bay while on the way to the airport. We were hungry, so then found Moonside Bakery and Cafe. Given it was the off season and not a lot of tourists in town, we were SO happy to find this bakery open. What a great place! Nice people! Good coffee! Great food! Seeing how it was the end of our vacation and had spent most of our $$, it was great to find a place like this - yummy and at a good price point. The coffee drinks we had were two of the worst espresso drinks we have ever had. We came in to the Moonside Café at about 4pm on a Saturday, an hour before closing. Everything you think about espresso drinks - hot rich, deep roasted, non-burnt, coffee taste, hot milk, were lacking. The coffee was luke-warm, tasted burned and stale; and contrary to the expectation for espresso (pulled expressly for the order), these were not. To save time and effort, these drinks apparently were "pulled" not from the espresso machine, but rather from a pitcher of cold coffee, and a pitcher of milk that had been steamed well before our order. These drinks could just as easily have come from the dark side of the moon. I understand that employees are anxious to leave early on a weekend day; but if you are not even going to try to make a decent order, let us know so we don't waste time and money. Service was also on the surly side. In sum, if you want a good coffee drink, you will likely not get it here. There is a new espresso bar down the street, it was well-packed and the people appeared to be happy. Try this rather than Moonside Café. read more

We enjoyed this bakery last year so we decided to go there again while visiting Half Moon Bay. This time the service was very bad. It was 4pm and they refused to serve us slices of the pumpkin cake telling that it was too late and that we should buy the whole cake (which we did not do). The line behind us was still long and other persons also wanted some slices so I'm pretty sure that they could have sold all the slices. They gave us real cups in order to get the regular coffee, but while we were paying, a girl took back the cups and replaced them by the To Go cups: she told us that the people in the kitchen did not want to wash the cups anymore as they were closing in one hour. Drinking an espresso in the medium paper cup was not great (looked like having a drop of coffee!) and it's not green to throw so many paper cups while it was still possible to wash the real ones. read more

I had breakfast with one of my students and her mother this morning. The location is great easy to get to. The food was amazing I got the omelette #7, and a juice which was freshly squeezed. I also bought a fruit tart that was amazing. The seating is inside a little shopping center. It is a bit pricey but for how the food tasted it was well worth it. read more

We have tried Moonside a few times and it started out just ok and has progressively got worse . The cookies are way to expensive even for HMB, and are terrible!!! I can make cc cookies with a blindfold on better than this. A group of ladies sitting next to us outside had to return an item that was spoiled. Poor and somewhat rude service all and all make this a place I will not be going back to!!! 3 stars no way!! Save your money. Shame on me for giving this place a second and third chance !! read more

Yesterday I brought home a chocolate cupcake and some beautiful heart meringues cookies. My daughter took one bite and said, "way better than Sprinkles". However, the young women working the front counter were not friendly at all, which is such a shame. I've been coming to Moonside for many years and remember when the owner and her best employee Edith or Edna used to work the register. They were always smiling and pleasant. OK ... every time we head over to Half Moon Bay to relax for the day ... or in this case ... stay overnight at a nice B&B up the coast ... we convince ourselves to try this place just one more time! In times past, the experiences have been less than good ... but everything just looks so damn yummy ... and we keep hoping! But ... OK ... I surrender ... this time was the last and final time ... no use wasting our time stopping in any more. So we walked in and I saw they were selling one of my favorite pastries ... hot cross buns!! Woohoo! They looked really good ... so I ordered 4 of them ... and since they were fairly small in size ... thinking maybe it would cost me $5 or $6 ... maybe $7? Nope ... let's try $9.00!! Yes ... $2.25 each!! Now even the sting of that price would have been eased if indeed they tasted really good ... feeling that I got at least some value for these overpriced buns. No such luck! I could only force down one ... extremely dry ... extremely leaden and heavy ... and completely tasteless! It was as if these concoctions were a day or two old! Not even the custard piping on the top could add any flavor or moisture. I mean ... this was a total ripoff! Worst hot cross bun ... EVER! This morning, I tried a bite out of a second one ... thinking maybe it would be a different experience ... dipped in hot coffee ... or something! Two bites in ... I disgustedly put it back in the box. This bakery should be ashamed to sell something like this ... at ANY price! ... but then to charge $2.25 each? Are you kidding me?! Before we head back home tomorrow, I'm going to drive back into town and dump these back on their counter! It wouldn't surprise me if they placed the two remaining intact buns back into their display cabinet! Watch out, folks! read more

I am a regular who travels through Half Moon Bay and stopping at the Moonside Bakery and Cafe is a must. I cannot get through my day without a great tasting latte and a chocolate croissant. The flakiness of the croissant is one of the best i have ever tasted; one can taste the use of real butter in the product and the chocolate is some of the best ever! I wish i could have more time to spend in this amazing cafe' however with my busy schedule i only can make a quick stop. The owners know what they are doing and i just learned last week that this is there 15th year in business; in these days of bad economic times it just come to show how far a good product will get you. Some mornings i go in and the owner is busy working but stops what he is doing to say hi and make sure everything is enjoyable. That is seldom seen nowadays. This is not your average donut shop; when you visit the Moonside bakery you are visiting an exceptional European cafe and i recommended all of the products to my work colleagues and friends. read more

Just ordered four drinks and two pastries. Pastries are ok- not special, but ok. Drinks, however, horrible: regular coffee bitter (burnt?); mocha has chocolate but taste is off, perhaps the coffee used? Chai latte just an off-flavor, bitter. Double espresso also bitter. Is the coffee over-roasted? Simply no care exhibited. Other reviews mention service; ours wasn't rude but rushed (and no one waiting after us). Very disinterested taking the order. The two employees behind counter making drinks more interested in pushing out drinks, visiting with each other, than the quality of product. An apparent friend of the owner wondered whether he's read these reviews. Doesn't seem as if he had but should. Tourist $$ will keep doors open. For now. read more
