Nice atmosphere and friendly service, albeit a bit slow... Drinks were decent too. Hugely disappointed that they didn't offer a meat combo platter of some sort and that we had to order sandwiches or tacos. Cheese curds weren't much to write home about but they do give you a ton in the large order and the ranch is delicious... but they only give you a teaspoon so make it last! Brisket was meh. Very dry and barely warm. The sauce I had was something w honey in it and I wasn't super impressed, it just wasn't very interesting. The pickles and pickled onions were incredible though and the bun was toasted perfectly. Fries were ok and slaw needed seasoning. Apparently the pulled pork tacos are delicious, wish I would've gotten those! Not sure if it's worth trying again though. read more

This place is very tasty. I came to Crystal Lake from central Texas to visit family, the home of BBQ, and I can say this place is as good if not better than a lot of places there. I had the pork ribs and my wife had the Cuban Sandwich. The ribs were well seasoned and had just a little bit of tang from the BBQ sauce. The BBQ sauce was heavy on the Molasses but it was on the side and honestly it doesn't need it. The meat was juicy enough as is. The Cuban sandwich just sings with the pulled pork. They only sell brisket by the pound and I didn't want to take any home but the waiter was able to get me a nice side of brisket. I was genuinely surprised how moist and juicy that brisket was. Also my ribs came with house made potato chips which just was icing on the cake. I would say that if this was in Central Texas it could definitely be added to the rotation. Friendly staff. The moment we walked in the Manager(Owner) was super welcoming and asked us if we'd been there before. Our Server was sweet and answered all our questions. The Smoked Wings were crisp outside and juicy inside! Delish! Multiple sauces too. My husband and I both had the Done Porkin Around sandwich and the meat was tender. Would love to try their ribs! This couple has found a cool niche and an underground following due to one thing, the food is awesome. Moontime is a counter in a general store. No seating, just take it and go. First, this might possibly be the best BBQ I've ever had. We walked in at lunch and were able to get a table right away and parking. My husband and I split a brisket grilled cheese. Holy smokes. It is more than enough for two people and soooo good. The toast was thick and perfectly grilled and the sauce, oh girl. It was sweet and smoky, perfect and on the side. I choose the little cornbread muffins. While they were good, the sandwich was amazing. Our server was outstanding, friendly and attentive. Although the food was good and the service was excellent. I really felt it was more than a three but less than a four star. I really enjoyed the meal but thought the portions were on the small side. The restaurant is small and quiet. And clean. I like that. I wish they had more than burger style sandwiches and had a bbq meat plater. Called ahead on a Saturday to inquire about reservations. Was told they don't take them but waiting seldom takes more than 15 minutes. Drove 50 minutes to their location, arriving at 630pm only to be told they were sold out. Most tables were still occupied, but was told again they were sold out of all barbecue but I was welcome to visit another time. Would have liked to been told when I called that they were running low. The place is a smaller joint, but the atmosphere is good. We've mostly eaten carry out, but the one time we did dine in, the service was fairly quick, and our server was kind to us and our rambunctious bunch. The food was delicious and we over ate. When we carry out food it's just as good! We usually get rib which are always great, the pulled pork sandwich is also super great, my kiddos enjoy the grilled cheese with brisket, and our new try on site was the flat bread and we fought over it. The food hear is absolutely delicious. My two favorites are the Brisket Grilled Cheese and the Cuban. The ribs are also fantastic, perfectly smoked, fall off the bone delicious. Everyone I've eaten here with or talked to has loved it. And the portions are large. I usually only eat half of the sandwich and bring the other half home. I was looking for new places in the area and found this on yelp. Wondered why I've never heard of this place...well, maybe because they're located in a general store? Is this a prob? Absolutely not! This place was amazing! Every week they have a different menu so I waited until they had the brisket grilled cheese bc I really wanted to try that. Their smoked chicken and corn chowder soup was delicious! Their chili was delicious. The grilled cheese was to die for. The moon rib sandwich was heaven. Skimped on the brisket sandwich, only got like 5 pieces of brisket for a $16 sandwich. The only bbq sauce that is good is the classic but they give you so little. Ribs where fine, good smoke of them just not as tender as I would have liked. Should have been smothered in sauce but they were just too dry. For $37 it's just not worth it read more

We tried it last Friday for the first time. Jenna was our server and she was friendly and helpful. My wife had the turkey sandwich and I had the pulled pork Cuban. Both of us agreed our food was delicious. The menu they offered that day was primarily gourmet BBQ sandwiches. It's a nice change of pace from the standard BBQ restaurant offerings. They did have ribs too. We enjoyed the food, atmosphere, and service. What more can you ask from a restaurant? We prefer to patronize locally owned restaurants that aren't chains. I saw a number of positive reviews for a new storefront bbq bar and restaurant. Stopped by mid afternoon recently and had a great experience. It was not busy so was a bit surprised about the slower than expected service. Additionally as a new location would expect them to share a bit about the menu but that did not happen at any table near us. The food is fantastic as had outstanding brisket. Sauces were plentiful as well but not necessary as the meet was so flavorful . Nice bar area and access to some sports events via large screen TVs. Definitely a good master bbq chef as it really stood above other places I have tried in Huntley, Woodstock and crystal lake.
