In her almost thirteen years at Bentley we've never had to truly worry about her. The Care Center obviously has residents who are far more infirm than Assisted Living, but the environment is light, open, and filled with activity. Residents of this skilled nursing facility still receive chef-prepared cuisine, just like all the Bentley residents, served in an elegant dining room with linen tablecloths and china. They are allowed to order from a menu if they are able but the aides know everyone's favorites and make sure they get it. The residents socialize with each other - to the extent they can - as they dine. If someone has particular dietary or swallowing challenges, chef rises to the occasion to ensure their every meal is delicious and nutritious. The nursing and care staff make sure we as a family are kept informed of our mom's status on a regular basis. When we visit we may find her fresh from the first-floor beauty salon or in the Activities Room engaged in a singalong. Her Lewy body dementia is severe and the hallucinations keep her firmly grounded in fantasy, but she is happy and clean and nicely dressed and very well cared for.

We spent a long time looking for the right place for her and were happy to have found this one. My Mom is 91 years old and has had frequent hospitalizations in the past 10 years and we are so grateful for the care and patience with which she has been treated for this extended period of time. She has several physical therapists and occupational therapists in both the Gardens as well as her apartment at Terracina Grand and they always work with her to build up her strength and get back to a normal way of life. She has been in a wheelchair ever since her stroke but there are always enough CNAs and Nurses who monitor her medication and get her to and from the bathroom, as well as work with her when she has problems swallowing. The food is very good particularly at the Gardens and even though it sometimes must be softened so that she can easily eat it, she is usually able to rehabilitate herself with the help of the wonderful people who attend her there. We couldn't be happier than to have a place such as The Gardens for Mom to recuperate in until she is strong enough to go back to a more independent lifestyle which is available at Terracina Grand.

Well, I just got out of a 10-day stay at this nursing home which I attended strictly for the…read morePhysical Therapy rehabilitation. It was much less that I had hoped for and even less for what I'd expected. In no particular order I will give details of the horrors you might expect. Keep in mind that for an older person with terminal issues this might have been much better, but I was probably the youngest in the facility and only needed P.T., not nursing. I had a multiple-occupancy room (read semi-private, two patients) that had a TV each but both TVs were controlled with the same coded remote. When I would turn mine off or on or changed the channel or volume level, his would change, too, and vice-versa. It had a bathroom much smaller that any Motel 6 I'd even been in. It had belt-sander quality toilet paper. And there was no shower... only a bi-weekly schedule to go down to the "spa" always with a nurse or assistant who did their best impression of Nurse Rachet (controlling the shower hose, freezing temps, dumping handfuls of shampoo on my hair, all while seated in one of their rolling PVC shower seats. I am not a xenophobe, but when all of the staff speaks loud Creole in your presence and only barely try to speak English when they address you, I find it disturbing and off-putting. The P.T. "gym" looked more like an adult kindergarten, including match-the-shape games. The silicone rubber bands they used for muscle-strengthening made me think that I was in Joe's Garage and Kindergarten. The staff seemed more interested in whistling to 80's tunes or talking about their next meal plans than focusing on the P.T. The entire facility reminded me of a stalog; it took the door code of the day to exit a door to the outside. This might be effective against dementia patients wandering off, but I was clearly with all of my senses and it would have been nice to sit for awhile outdoors listening to the quite sounds of traffic... It took the kitchen/nutrition staff 9 days to finally get my food orders correct. I make the majority of my meals fresh and raw. So instead of blindly opting in for the lemmings' fare of heated canned food, I spent entirely too much time getting them to make me salads and sandwiches. And why are we still wearing traditional hospital gowns? It made more sense back when most of our medicines were hypodermics in the buttocks, but they have got to go. They provide no protection, they never fit, and the ties get knotted up. My assigned doctor was on vacation when I was admitted and never returned during my 10-day visit. Their inter-departmental communications were horrible, with me often repeating the same set of information to many staff members who should have shared it. I hope this will guide you towards selecting a better nursing home/rehab experience than I had.

The facility is physically beautiful but there are bug and cockroach issues that exceed the normal expectations for living in Florida. There was massive turnover during our tenure with three different nursing directors in the nine months we were there. Weekend coverage is sparse. Communication was non existent unless there was a fall or a crisis. Staff do not introduce themselves and caregivers constantly change so it is hard to know who to approach when there is a question or concern. Although I gave this feedback on multiple occasions, no change occurred. Administration does not treat their residents with the dignity they deserve and does not confer with family regarding care decisions. They are quick to flex legal authority rather than work with family to find solutions. No memory care will be perfect and the Villa at Terracina was excellent in many ways, however their shortcomings overshadowed the positive in our experience. This is a difficult journey for those suffering from dementia and their loved ones. To anyone reading this I wish you and your loved ones the best.

My Dad started in Independent Living, which is like a luxury five star hotel with stacked amenities and a beautiful dining room and common areas, and my Mom started in Assisted Living, which is very similar to Independent, but includes nursing staff on call 24/7. After a year, my Mom rotated to Memory Care and my Dad to Assisted Living. Thus far, the staff has been very attentive and it is an ideal residence for eldery parents. The other reisdents are very friendly and they have engagning programming, such as live music performances, and other activities. The food is also top notch. He is in Skilled…read moreNursing and I they definitely DO NOT have enough help to meet the needs of the few patients they have, especially on weekends. I do my husband's laundry because of allergies to liquid soap and have posted three signs up in his room to this effect. Unfortunately some of his clothes turn up missing, plus I find things in his drawer which are NOT his. I also purchased Pads to be used on his wheelchair with his room number on them, they disappear on a regular basis and the search must go on. Today when I arrived my husband was half shaved, teeth not brushed and sometimes I find him wet. On Sunday we had him out for 2 1/2 hours. Upon returning he wanted to take a nap. We rang for a CNA, after twenty minutes one came into the room and we were told they were ALL eating lunch and we would have to wait. After another half hour, I had a friend help me assist him with a dry diaper and put him in bed. As I was leaving two CNA's were walking out of the room next door with a scale. I guess it is more important to weigh someone then to make sure that the clients are clean and dry. All these issues might seem minor, but when we are talking about the man I love, his care is NOT minor.

Unfortunately, this "owner" is mistaken and erroneous in his allegations. My father never received "free" days. EVER.
