I will start out by saying I normally dont bother or spend time writing bad reviews unless its absolutely necessary and to warn others! if you look at my review history my reviews are very neutral and mostly positive experiences. first off Andrew the rep there, technician is a great guy nothing at all against him this is more directed towards the company owners strategy, politics and the way they operate which to me is very deceptive and not at all helpful or kind to you and I the consumer! So my car was coming up for registration and was going to need to pass smog, I work in the valley so one day on my way back i found a shop in canoga park with an online coupon for $50! i said great i go there, as soon as the gentleman puts the scanner in he very kindly tells me and shows me off the scanner that its reading a negative code coming from the catalytic so he tells me im not even going to try to, its NOT going to pass, you need to run your car more and then bring it back or get yourself a scanner, go to autozone and when you see that its ready bring it back! AMAZING guy! didnt charge me a dime!! ... so later that day i go to the beach, run other errands, run my car around for about 50 miles, the next day another 50 miles or so back and forth to and from work and then im back in Thousand Oaks! My dad who had gone to this place before and felt this place was great and had great service tells me i should just bring it here, they should take care of it! he convinced me and I felt like oh well what do I have to lose right! BIG MISTAKE! so as soon as i bring it in they put the scanner in to check just like the other guy did in the valley, again its showing the negative code and not going to pass but the guy tells me its $79.95 i owe them just for that!!! im like wow ok so im thinking to myself if im already here and im already on the hook for this initial cost might as well get it fixed! so i ask him ok than what do we need to do to fix this?? he than says he will need to charge me $120 for an inspection, annoyed, frustrated and not in my all 5 senses i agree to this which now looking back is just anotehr way of Scamming people! like really you need another $120 to tell someone that your car has an issue? the reader / scanner already told you that!!! Anyway it keeps getting worst, so now he says there maybe 2 sensors and some filter fluid that may need to get replaced and still NO GUARANTEE that it will pass!! the cost for that close to $800, we agreed to only having one sensor changed and the filter fluid for about $300 which he said might just fix the issue since that was what he thought was the weaker sensor of the two! So that work gets done, he tells me i need to run my car again just like the first guy did! I ran it all week to and back from work even took an extended trip and the final day of the week over 100 miles, bring it back in and still didnt pass!!! I cant believe i got taken for a fool as i write this but i want to make sure other people here dont get taken advatanged of! at the end of the day I ended up just giving up on my car, sold it to Carmax and left it at that but it still cost me close to $500 when literally all they did was replace one insignificant sensor and add filter fluid!!! thats IT!!! I know its my fault, i got influenced by my dad and his past expereience which was a positive in his case if everything goes as planned and checks out but if it doesnt be assured they are going to charge you an arm and a leg for something that might still not Fix your problem! I just wish they would of been as honest as the first shop i came across with! that first initial charge to me is what led to everything else and its a very shady deceptive way of operating a business! With this economy scamming people is just not the way. Very disrespectful and unprofessional. Please do your research or call before going here or any smog check locations! YOu will save yourselves alot of money and headaches! read more

I trust Andrew more than anyone else with my car. He is always reliable, prompt in communication and a great price. While he was changing my shocks he let me know I had some wear on other parts and my drive belt was cracked. He offered to do some of it parts only while it was open no extra labor. He then kept the parts to show me the wear and educate me why he recommended them. He never tries to hustle you and will be like I recommend getting this done even though he doesn't do it. The Moorpark Auto and Smog is located on the corner of Moorpark road and Avenida De Los Arboles (Avenue of the Trees). The front of the building is a Shell Gas Station which I frequent every time I need to gas up. I go here because you can redeem your Ralph's Rewards points where you save at the pump depending on how much you spend at the store. Pumps are very new and I've never had an issue when pumping my gas. The backside of the building is the Auto and Smog shop where you can get your vehicle serviced or smog checked. Be advised that if your car doesn't pass, there's no free re-test (signs are posted at their kiosk in the back). I had my car smog checked early this year and she passed with flying colors. It was a bit more than I wanted to spend and I probably could have gone somewhere less expensive, but I was in a time crunch and I needed to get my vehicle registered before it expired. Next time I will see if I can find a coupon first as the service I received was good enough to return the next time around. The smog check itself was painless and they got me in and out of there in less than 30 minutes as there was a few other customers before me. Overall my experience was pleasant and I hope that yours is too. read more

Horrible! They overcharged me and totally lied that I needed my brakes replaced. I went in for an oil change which they significantly overcharged me. They then insisted I needed all of my brakes replaced. They first quoted me one price. Then I gave a "what the?" face, he then quoted me half the price. I took my car that same day to an amazing auto break-specific auto shop on TO Blvd who was wonderful and fully honest. He said that my brakes were totally fine and did not need replacing. He actually said my front brakes were brand new! Thank goodness I got a second opinion. I do NOT recommend this shop for anything at all! read more

The guys were hanging out in the garage. We approached and he said he would meet us over at the shack in the back. The store front is separate from the gas station. There is a small covered waiting area next to the shack. We went to get snacks and stood in the shade waiting. There was no wait to get service, we just dropped in and gave our keys and the guy took care of the smog check for the truck in 20 min. The service was meh, he wasn't "rude" but it also wasn't with a smile. I guess when mechanics double as cashier it's to be expected. My only complaint really is the price. I guess when you're in a time crunch, beggars cant be choosers. It was the closest smog check place, but not my go to spot. read more

This is my second smog check at Moorpark Auto & Smog, and the reason I came back a second time is because I was so impressed the first time. Andrew was friendly, fast and professional both times and gave me a competitive quote both times. He answered my questions so that I felt fully informed of the process. When he opened the hood, he immediately noticed my battery was highly corrosive. He showed me and offered to replace it for an additional 10 minutes and a fair price and decent warranty. If it hadn't been Andrew, I probably would have waited and asked someone else to give me a second opinion, but my experience with him was that he was honest, fast and fair, so I said Yes without hesitation. When I go for my next 5,000 mile service, I'll ask him for a quote first. read more
